Chris Harris Drives The New BMW M2 | Never Judge A Book By Its Cover
Вставка
- Опубліковано 18 лис 2023
- Chris Harris admits he judged the new BMW M2 too harshly before he had the chance to drive it, and this video stands as a reminder to never judge a book by its cover.
WARNING: Chris shows unfiltered, honest emotion in this film, which means the odd profanity might be heard. So if you're watching with your kids please be warned.

With content like this, we're not really suffering from the absence of Top Gear. Fantastic work
This is a true story, keep going Chris, this was spot on.
This is much better imo. It's the way Chris presented before TG; glad to have it back.
Same quality as before he joined Top Gear. Top Notch.
This and throttle house
Nah, this is better than Top Gear
This is what Top Gear could and should have been. And this video’s set the benchmark for collecting cars content going forward. Fantastic!
Yawn, say something original
It definitely feels like what the sweet spot for Top Gear should have been for Chris. My favourite bits are and always will be the way Chris describes the car and the beautiful slow motion shots. The fast cuts and high tempo music add very little for me.
Give me a slow motion shot, with Cris doing a voice over and Ghost's Lullaby playing in the background. That's the zenith, right there.
Well said
@@beecee985he's not wrong though.
Flintoff and the other guy were absolute garbage
This needs more promotion - there’s millions of Top Gear fans that would love to see Chris doing old school car reviews.
No BS, no clowns using him as the butt of lad jokes. Just a top level motoring journalist doing what he does best. 👏
watch Chris Harris on cars
it was an ad, not a review.
After over a decade of watching Chris Harris content, he continues to deliver & improve. Hats off to you buddy
“Pulls like a bastard” and “Shut the fuck up, it’s fine” is surprisingly fresh reviewing, must say I thoroughly enjoy an uncensored Chris Harris saying what he genuinely thinks about a car! Great vid!
Are you sure this is chris harris?
Much more enjoyable watching Chris unfiltered and off the cuff when reviewing! More like this please 👍🏻
We're glad you're enjoyed it!
This is such a great combination of the edginess from your old personal channel, and the professionalism that Top Gear gave. Brilliant video, looks like an awesome car!
Will support whatever Chris is doing in the future. Keep up the great work.
This was like jumping back in time a decade or so & watching ‘Chris Harris on Cars’ where he is at his best. Unfiltered & raw.
Great piece.
Keep them coming!
We're glad you're enjoyed it!
@@collectingcars Do you ever respond to negative comments?
It does feel retro, also the way he speaks and intonation
Your copy n' paste reply has got a typo in it :)@@collectingcars
exactly. Chris harris at his best that was
I love that they're not bleeping swearing. It's like they've turned off CH's traction control, and he's all the better for it. Not unlike his car control, his command of the English language is made all the more enjoyable when he can let it all hang out.
This comment perfectly summarises how I felt. Harris with the TC off. Perfect analogy. Well done Sir
Should bleep it out. No need for the language
We're glad you're enjoyed it!
@@collectingcars thoroughly.
Nice review just no need for the swearing
Loved it! seeing Chris no strings attached, raw like he is! Makes me reminisce Chris Harris on Cars so much! Can we have more of this coming our way pleaseee CC?! I drove the new M2 a month ago and absolutely loved it.
You’ve really hit the sweet spot with these types of reviews. Please keep them coming ❤
⚠WARNING: Chris shows unfiltered, honest emotion in this film, which means the odd profanity might be heard. So if you're watching with your kids please be warned. ⚠
Oh don't ya worry, that's how I like it
I wouldn't worry.. Kids know every bad word there is these days.. The warning is appreciated though!
Exactly how it should be reviewed.
Well done for giving the audience what they want.
oh fuck...
You had me at “shut the f*** up” 😁
Chris back to what he’s best at , not trying to be a clown on tv with two other idiots pretending to know about cars and couldn’t drive for shit , glad he’s back and hope he carries on doing what he’s best at and been his normal self 👍
We're glad you're enjoyed it!
One of the best reviews I’ve ever watched. Shows the good and the bad. Great to see an honest and unfiltered review
Brilliant Chris and team ! Keep up the good work that feels totally genuine and no BS 💪
god damn it Chris, this is EXACTLY what we've been wanting to see for years. Massive hats off the production team, too - this is TV level quality! Superb!
You can really see Harris implementing what he’s learned doing top gear here. Such a well polished presentation yet retaining that raw Harris that we all love. Well done all involved
This is not from top, rather his work prior to top gear
he's learned doing top gear? unless you are saying that he is keeping the way things are before top gear and not what he experienced and copied in top gear. that show was shit. completely utterly trash.
I’m talking about video production and presentation! This is significantly more polished that even the most recent CHOC, and the only place he would have learned those skills from is working on TG.
@@trque0fthedevilnah that’s money from collecting cars
Chris was doing this well before Top Gear
One of the best shot and edited car reviews I've ever seen. Appreciate the sound design and dual-operated drone shots as well! Chris brilliant as always.
Cracking video this!
I feel like a new man watching some proper unfiltered content!
Please keep this sort of content coming. This is what we’ve been missing. No one really cares about stupid challenges i.e. going across Iceland in ice cream van or something similar. Chris Harris is the best English car journalist on the internet. The Collecting cars podcast is also a weekly treat. Collecting cars is the spiritual successor to top gear in its prime… Chris Harris, keep side ways please!
Thanks Simon, we're glad you're enjoyed it! Lots more to come!
Black is quite literally the only color that hides this car's weird angles. The launch blue is egregious, having seen it in person multiple times. That being said, the fender flares are cool, and the numbers never bothered me. Great review.
Loving mine in Toronto red.
@@scottyk329 then we must agree to disagree.
I agree, it actually looks good in black, especially when the nice looking lights distract you
@@SharpTurnStudios I agree with @scottyk329, it does look good in Toronto red. The biggest issue with this car is the lack of colors available to it (no Individual). I'll have to disagree with your disagreement :)
I think the case with most of the new m cars looks better in a darker color
Good to see you back on our screens Chris, great review too 👌🏻😎 subscribed 👍🏻
Hands down the best car review I’ve ever seen. Brilliant in every way.
Hi Chris. Never got in so fast on comments before so never thought that you'd see them. Just wanted to say a big thanks for the video with Jonny Smith where you opened up about mental health. I know 2 people that it really really helped. Possibly more than helped. Thankyou for being honest. I owe you more than a few classy car vids.
Chris seems so happy now. His swearing feels so heartwarming
Excellent work! In black that M2 looks acceptable too - basically Harris points out that all the things that irritate us older folks are things you suffer in any new car (screens, odd styling, voice controls etc) but the bits you care about (performance / handling / comfort) are good and points out the single most important thing… BMW still build hot manual saloons 🥰 excellent video Chris and Collecting Cars - 11/10 👏
Boomers will always whine on any new BMW.
Bro, your time is over.
Just move on
@@hassanger8128 absolutely agree, as a boomer myself i’m happy to leave new M series ownership to you hip and cool youngsters.
The move to electric M series cars has begun and I hope they meet your expectation. I’ll tip my old timer hat to you guys when you glide past me in my old e92 M3 😂
I'm 33 and I think the same. But maybe that's being old already!
Chris sold his soul, claiming he no longer feels the weight of this very heavy 2 seater. Yes, ///M division has always been great at masking weight, but this is just absurd
Loved this review. It's Chris Harris On Cars brought back to life and that makes me very very happy.
Hats off to Harris, one of the very few journalists I trust - a true automotive enthusiast who keeps it real and raw. Cheers to him for consistently delivering what we want. Looking forward to more reviews more often!
Love you Chris. Please post more content like this!
100%
10:07 is the moment where I understood what the hell just happened-then of course I had to momentarily pause the video to give it the like Chris deserves.
That’s how you do a proper review. ❤
After getting the chance to drive this new M2 at the NC BMW Performance Center, I was just amazed how fun and dialed in this chassis feels. The grip is fantastic, the power, uff it pulls hard and with strong brakes to match, I was in heaven. Even though it was just a few laps at a 7/10th pace, this M2 sure surprised me, hats off the BMW engineers who pull off this magic specially with a semi heavy car.. I need one ! Love your channel Chris, Cheers Mate! :)
Would you take the new M2 over the RS3?
@@lakerfan1855 I def would.. having had the rs3 last Gen before my current g80 M3.. I can clearly say that there's no comparison with the g8x chassis
I just love how blunt Chris Harris is! No Bullshit, straight to the point & all the detail you need.
Such a fantastic review and a fantastic car! Chris is the only reviewer on youtube that can hold my attention for more than a few minutes. The passion shines through
true!!
Completely agree!
He’s my favorite too
We're glad you're enjoyed it!
Been a while since I’ve seen such an entertaining automotive review. Great stuff!
The best review I’ve seen Chris do since before his Top Gear days! Keep doing what you do best!!!
Ah, we're back to proper Chris on Cars vids. Best review on the channel so far.
I wish all car reviews are like this. Pure Gold.
We're glad you're enjoyed it!
You have upped your game on this platform tenfold. This is up there with the best pieces you've ever done
This is the first collecting cars video I have watched and I landed here following a plug on the podcast. Now I’m here to stay and trawl excitedly through some epic content. Well done team!
What a review! Straight up brutally honest with no filters. Thoroughly enjoyed that video!
Yes, more Chris Harris doing what he does best. I could watch Chris reviewing cars all day, please give us more Chris
We're working on it 😉
More great content from Chris and his team. Thanks for this video.
Fantastic motoring journalist. Chris Harris talks and walks it every time. The best presenter Top Gear ever had and his early work is also very impressive. The M2 is a lovely car. Chris, it doesn't matter what platform your on, you smash it every single time.
Continue these kind of reviews please! Authentic and great!
Most anticipated review of the year
Top drawer as always from Chris, Looking forward to the future on Collecting Cars 👍
Chris - Don't stop being you and doing reviews like this! Legend.
So rare to have this combination of being both a great driver and a great communicator - a great watch everytime
"So shut TF up, it's fine" 😂. Chris Harris is brilliant at what he does.
I know it says Collecting Cars, but really CHOC is back and I, for one am delighted. Fantastic to see the best journo in the business back doing the business and clearly having a ball.
I keep coming back to watch this again and again lol I love it, thank you Chris Harris and Collecting Cars!
Great video, thanks Chris for your clear and expert analysis. I completely agree how ridiculous it is that the lane keeping and speed warnings have to be disabled on every journey.
Great honest review, for a great car! Simple as that. Wish these types of reviews were on a main stream channel on the TV on a regular basis…
This is great, this is something car reviews have been missing. Great work, enjoyed it very much
Love a good honest car review. I feel like if I got the opportunity to review a car this is exactly how I'd say it 👍
I like this car a lot. For $65k USD with a few options, it's a pretty damn good deal, too. I have an M340i, but I'm honestly having some regret over not waiting for this one if I'm being honest.
One of the best car reviews I’ve seen in a long while. As for the looks, I actually really like it
For me, CHs best vid to date and I’m going back as far as EVO/ DR days.
its quite a biased review i found. he's making a lot of excuses for the car.
primarily it is an expectations issue. If this car had a m3 badge would be pretty happy with it (other than the looks).
its an m2... the last gen was the last 'good' m product in a decade...
How much is BMW paying you to say you like the look of the new M2?
@@markgt894I like it to
BMW make so many utterly dire looking cars now that when one turns up that is merely ugly it's quite a relief and garners praise for its looks!
Keep them coming Chris, great review and video!
Brilliant!
I believe that you just took away the withdrawal symptoms from all the car junkies around the world. At least you help me.
This video had it all!
Thank you, keep it up!!! Long live Collecting cars, Chris, and mints in cars…. 🎉
Someone once said (I cant remember who) that cars that look perfect straight off age quickly and those with looks that grow on you, stay current for much longer. So it is with this car as well as other BMW's and McLarens. A very brilliant review👍🏽
Well said!
I remember when the E9X gens came out and people were clowning on them for looking like enlarged beetles (I did as well). Now, however, I’m in love with them.
Personally, I’m having the same thoughts about the G series, especially the M2. I still prefer the looks of the F87 but recently started warming up to the looks and even considered trading in my car for it.
💯nailed it and bmw knows this very well
Well. I wouldn’t say that Frankenstein looks good if you just let him grow on you. I am really a BMW guy. But this car is just so over the top and with strange proportions. It did not grow on me a bit even though my best buddy has one.
Chris is one of the best auto journos today. A Top Gear dream team with him, Jason Camissa and an ex-F1 driver (Ricciardo in a year or 2) to do the lap times would be epic. Basically rolling the third presenter and The Stig into 1 character. It would reboot Top Gear into relevancy again.
Cammisa and Harris will be an awesome combo.
I don’t hate it in black for some reason? 😅
The G87's curb weight is simply unacceptable.
Love your review as always 🔥
This might honestly be my favourite car review of all time. Funny and informative. More of this man enthusing (and swearing) about cars please! The only other road tester I hold in even near equal esteem is Andrew Frankel
I know they've started to become frequent but I want more. Make him drive everything. All of the cars.
Fantastic review…accurate and concise. Thank you!!!!
As always! Thank you chris! Worth the wait and worth the watch. Simply put, sensational! chris and harry metcalfe are the best presenters in my opinion 👍👍
How is Chris so straightforward and candidly funny 😂
Honest, no gimmick, no cringe, no joke. Pure passion, what a sports car review should be. No Doug, Mat or Throttle clowns.
Chris and Rory
More of this content. Unfiltered Chris Harris is all i needed :D Amazing review, awesome M2 !
I have to say I enjoyed the review as much as the car. Raw, witty and brutally honest. The M2 may have evolved but Chris Harris certainly has as well. Great presentation.
Chris used to be a polite gentleman.. But yeah, still one of the best reviewers, this reminds me of the old days of Chris Harris on cars.
Only because of bbc rules, and youtube demomitizing profanity in the past (no longer the case)
Agreed. Top notch review and I very much like CH since back in the days. In fact, I am listening to his podcast in my vacation right now. BUT not sure if the phrase “it pulls like a b@st@*d” is necessary 😉
@@geoffwatches Nope, I'm talking about days long before Top Gear. Remember Chris Harris on cars like I said? Or Drivers Republic?
He is polite... and passionate 😅
Censoring himself would be lame. Who are you to deem what’s necessary?
First proper M2 review I've seen, Brilliant. I hope your Bollocks have recovered Chris?
If it wasn't for Chris, Top Gear would be dead
Cracking video. Well done CH & team. Bravo 👌👏👏👏
Like all of the other comments, I absolutely loved this video. The content is informative, the driving experience was so much fun and Chris Harris….perfect! I hope someday I can meet you just to thank you for all of your work! From drifting GT3’s to now the M2! Awesome!!! Thank you!
Great honest review Chris..you say it as it is..👍👍
this was a brilliant video, how did you get such great shots!?
Wow this video just blew me away!
I'm from Germany Stuttgart region and everytime when I see one of these here it's like a breathtaking shining pearl on the streets
I'm really in love with this car 😍
Chris needs his filters removed more often 😂 loved this!
As always - nobody does it better. Thanks Chris for enlightening us regarding the new M2! 👍
Another effin lovely review. Thx my dude... I was having a bad day, but not now. 😁
Brilliant review, and his arguments with the BMW voice assistant had me rolling.
Honestly don't think it's a bad looking car, and in black I think it looks rather good. The main issue I have is the large square ducts on the front - if they were just slightly more sculpted I think it would look less "Max Power Bodykit" and more miniaturized supercar.
I actually like the way it looks now, not only accepting it but like it. The shots in this vid show the curves really well and the black with the yellow plate looks nice, now im not sure which color i like more black or grey
Unfiltered Chris is pure magic. Love the review and keep up the good work. He actually changed my mind about the M2. I am warming up to it now.
Please make more videos, loved this one!
First time coming across your channel, and I have to say the presenter is brilliant; kept me engaged from start to finish.
Thank you for this amazing content CC! I think the styling looks better in black as it hides some of the blockiness. When it was first shown in blue the giant blocks in front and back REALLY stood out.
Yes, just like the Pontiac Aztek, this ugly exterior looks best in black, to hide the ugliness.
This is the review that M2 needed from its market launch!
Absolutely fantastic! ✌
Couldn't agree more 🤔 enjoying my ownership 4 mouth in...
Same here. Sadly just put mine away for the winter.
Well they should have paid Chris for it sooner.
@@trevorbailey1448I have had my M3 G80 for 10 months now… haters gonna hate, but I love it. If the wife didn’t make me get a 4 door I would have waited for the M2.

Best review ever...keep it coming Chris..(South Africa Johannesburg..)
You’re my new favorite car guy - well done, mate!
No question its a brilliant car, I just can't get past the design choices. There's also something to be said for how good something needs to be, and whilst it may be better, both previous cars weren't exactly bad themselves. I think cars are starting to become more valuable to people not just because of how they feel, but more so how they look, which is of course a personal thing.
Spot on ! It's the design Chris , we hate the ugly designs ,no one said it's a bad car !
I (and many many others) love the design and so far I only good very good comments on mine, which is in Zandvoort blue - something a lot of people hated even more;)
Great, glad you're enjoying your car@@mkm6073
> more so how they look, which is of course a personal thing.
Well they are personally wrong. At the end of the day, we buy these cars to drive them. If you're a collector and intend to leave your car in a bubble for the rest of its life then fair enough, but that's not what 99% of the people talking shit are doing. If you think the older M2 fits your needs more than fair enough. If you're looking for best bang for buck, you shouldn't be turning down a car in your price range just because of the looks
@@boogaluu292 My point is that as cars universally have greater performance (describe it how you like), people are placing more emphasis on aesthetics and emotion. I don't think people can be told that their subjective opinions are 'wrong'. Depending on what someone is buying a car for, I think the way something looks is a very valid reason to buy, or not
I’m in, Mr Harris! “Anything that no one likes, makes (you) like it even more.” 🤣 Epic!
Quality video, top guy, entertaining insights, the BEST
Great video Chris and team👍🏼 Other than the fact that the engine/exhaust sounds like a lethargic stag beetle flying up a drainpipe, I really like that car😊
Absolutely 💯% great driving skills Chris you're absolutely right about this car , however I can't wait for the CSL/CS models to come car designs change as time goes by so I don't have any issues with any car brand and their new designs.💪💪💪💪💪 Great video Chris hope to see more.
Glad you liked it!
May buy one soon. For now., picked up a rare new BRZ TS and love the car. Rear wheel drive, manual, Sublime combo. Great stuff as usual Chris
Chris is the true legend of top gear, but also his knowledge and critic is unparalleled. Absolutely right about cars. The same being said about this car. Top class
So this video teaches us:
Weight doesn't really matter.
Looks don't really matter.
Noise doesn't really matter.
Steering feel doesn't really matter.
Getting your balls pinched on the seat doesn't really matter.
Going sideways on a really track matters.
Okay, maybe for Chris, a racing driver, that makes sense, but for most normal M car buyers, they might care about some of these things, and might not go sideways on track that much.
Thanks, not mentioning the absolut dogshite gear ratios which the manual gearbox has. Forces you out of boost each time you switch gears
