The excitement I have for Kayla to read and review Sky Daddy is astronomical. I dunno why, but since she first mentioned it months ago, I am excited to watch her read it.
T. Kingfisher is one of my all time favorite authors and she comes out with a book around my birthday fairly often and this year is no different! Makes me feel like she's giving me a present and it makes figuring out what to buy me for my husband super easy. 😂
A Game in Yellow is a play on Robert Chambers' classic horror, The King in Yellow! It's about a play that causes people to to mad when they encounter it. The story inspired Lovecraft and became part of his horror Mythos that has in turn inspired generations of horror writers. (Hailey Piper excels at writing cosmic horror, so this connection is no surprise!)
I'm sooo excited for Blob and new SGJ this year. It feels like there is so much religious horror going into this year and I can't tell if it's going to be therapeutic yet. This color combo looks great on you!!
My most anticipated read is a treachery of swans!! Others are when the tides held the moon, where shadows meet, where shadows bloom (I just noticed two of my anticipated have almost the same title), wings of starlight (Queen clarion is the loml), homegrown magic, brewed with love and brighter than scale swifter than flame. I’m pretty sure none of these will match yours but im sure I’ll add yours to my list haha.
i haven’t watched Little Shop of Horrors in ages - must do a rewatch soon! intriguing by Eat the Ones You Love and very excited for Emily Wilde, Wild Dark Shore, and The Possession of Alba Diaz ✨
2025 is jam packed with really exciting releases! Some you may not know about which I think you’d be interested in: Erin E. Adams - One of You (her sophomore novel that got pushed back) Ocean Vuong- The Emperor of Gladness Charmaine Wilkerson -Good Dirt
The Stand is my all time favorite book. Before I had kids I would reread the extended version every summer. I would totally be there if you did a members discussion on The Stand and the short story collection. What a dream!
I’ve never read any Grady Hendrix, but I’m definitely gonna pick up this new one. It sounds so good! Eat the ones you love has such an appealing cover to me. I must have it
Immaculate Conception and Ten Incarnations of Rebellion are on my most anticipated list too! Also tentatively looking forward to Sky Daddy and the Vera Wong sequel. But I'm most excited for Megan Giddings' new book Meet Me at the Crossroads
Can’t wait for Water Moon, Emily Wilde, The Possession of Alba Diaz, the Amina Al-Sirafi book, and the new Emily Henry! 😍 Didn’t know about The Bewitching but it sounds great!
Girl in the Creek is also high up on my most anticipated (her novella The Secret Skin is a sapphic gothic horror--so good and so underrated.) Also didn't know Rachel Harrison was coming out with a haunted house book, it's exactly what I wanted from her!!
Eat the ones you love sounds great. Oh, and my daughter’s high school theatre is doing Litlle Shop as their big production this year so I selfishly want the book to have references. My daughter is performing too!
Omg so many of these are on my anticipated list too 🥰 I will say, I read another book in that Tessa Bailey series you showed at the end and it was one of my least favourite books of the year 🙃 I hope for your sake that the new one is better
You need to check out Meg Smitherman. Thrum was amazing (a sci-fi horror novella) and she has another scifi horror novella coming in january called Swallowed. Also there's another novella called Landlocked in Foreign Skin that sounds SO COOL and it's coming out in January as well.
The End of the World as We Know It. I’ve never pre-ordered something so damn fast. Now I just need to get a paperback copy of The Stand for a re-read. (Not annotating my first edition) thank you for putting it on my radar!
I’m so surprised The Unworthy by Augustina Bazterrica isn’t on here somewhere. I can’t wait because Tender is the Flesh and Nineteen claws were both my top reads each year I read them
i know it's a book club pick for you, but i'm intrigued to hear your thoughts on the new grady hendrix book! i've read an arc of it and i'm very mixed on it, especially in regards to his rep of black characters - i think it'd be an interesting thing to discuss in a group setting.
I have not read a single Stephen Graham Jones book, BUT have pre-ordered The Buffalo Hunter Hunter as the premise realllly intrigues me. I hope I love it!
It sounds like A Game in Yellow might be inspired by The King in Yellow, a 19th century collection of horror short stories, some of which mention a play called "The King in Yellow" that makes people who read it (and maybe who see it?) go mad.
I can’t tell if I would even care about the new Julia Bartz book but after the absolute perfection that was The Writing Retreat, I obviously have to read it.
the way I'll be inhaling sky daddy the second it comes out cannot be overstated (!!!) though can we talk about all those beautiful covers, kinda need water moon and eat the ones you love for that reason alone
I keep trying to get my TBR down because it's been at 270 books for the longest time...and now you made me add about 20 more books to that list...I'm never going to get it down, am I?
Not sure if you’ve heard of Swallowed by Meg Smitherman but it comes out at the end of January and it’s erotic sci-fi horror. i had an ARC of it, and it was so good.
A few of those are on my TBR. I just wish I could find a full list of every book being released. It drives me crazy that I have to go to UA-cam to find the new releases and everyone is posting the same few. haha Google has not been my friend.
Some books on my radar that weren’t on your list: Julie Chan is Dead, You are Fatally Invited, and I might read the new Alice Feeney out of pure curiosity
Appreciate the detailed breakdown! Could you help me with something unrelated: My OKX wallet holds some USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). How can I transfer them to Binance?
are you on any other reading trackers besiders Goodreads? i'm moving away from GR in 2025, but would love to continue following you on other platforms. do you use storygraph or fable? (if not, i'd highly recommend both!)
Doggone it, Kayla! I knew it was a mistake to watch this video. My backlist is soo long and now it's even longer. I wish I could read as fast as you, but no. I just accumulate the world's longest wish list. Thanks ever so much. Crap!
@@tinadoesntreadthatmuch I haven't been a huge fan of Nat Cassidys stuff, I've only liked the one novella. I'll probably give it a go at some point depending if other people talk it up! 🤗
I’ve never not read comic strips, comic books graphic novels because that’s how I learned how to read growing up reading the Sunday comic strips so that Raven boys graphic novel kind of sounds right up my alley
Sky Daddy arc was my fave read this year, 100% recommended! The Last Session is good, it is culty but not too culty if that makes sense 😂 I liked it but didn't love it as much as The Writing Retreat 🫣
The excitement I have for Kayla to read and review Sky Daddy is astronomical. I dunno why, but since she first mentioned it months ago, I am excited to watch her read it.
...adds more books to the massive 'Notify Me' tab in Libby...
Ooooh thank you for the reminder that this is an option on Libby!
Such an underrated use of Libby!
Same
Wait how do I do this???
Annnd I just leaned something new lol
the covers are really stunning lately
It's like you read my mind, I've been looking for 2025 releases and you CAME THROUGH.
T. Kingfisher is one of my all time favorite authors and she comes out with a book around my birthday fairly often and this year is no different! Makes me feel like she's giving me a present and it makes figuring out what to buy me for my husband super easy. 😂

The Hot Wax stand-in cover is already pretty damn cool
Right?! I hope they keep the typography and build around it
So many of these I hadn't heard of or thought they wouldn't be for me and then hearing you speak about them has made me intrigued to pick them up
Everything you mentioned sounds soooo good. They’re all on my radar now and I feel a new reading era coming for me
Never thought I'd see the day when Kayla adds a Rachel Harrison to her must read list
Sky Daddy sounds unhinged in all the right ways.
At the very least I expect to be entertained.
I'm sooo excited for Blob and new SGJ this year. It feels like there is so much religious horror going into this year and I can't tell if it's going to be therapeutic yet. This color combo looks great on you!!
Im so excited for Eat the Ones You Love, and Hot Wax. I'm interested to see if Tantrum by Rachel Eve Moulton will be as good as Tinfoil Butterfly
Excited for the new ling ling huang ! I read natural beauty because of you and it was one of my favorites of the year!!
Raven Boys graphic novel???
Holly shit 😍😭💜
My most anticipated read is a treachery of swans!! I'm also looking forward to the new Wayward Children book! I'll drop any book I'm reading when I have that book.♥
Had to preorder the possession of alba Diaz and the short stories about the stand
I'm so excited for The Posession of Alba Díaz! I love Isabel Canas
I’ve never read any Grady Hendrix, but I’m definitely gonna pick up this new one. It sounds so good!
Eat the ones you love has such an appealing cover to me. I must have it
And this is my most anticipated video of 2024 😍😍😍
Alien vlog in 2025? 👽👽 I want to read so many of these! Also Paul Tremblay has a middle grade horror coming out which I'm so intrigued by
i added so many books on goodreads just watching this video!!
Also, Ocean Vuong is coming out with a new book too! ❤️can’t wait!
I read an early copy of Water Moon and I think you’d really like it Kayla! It’s giving Studio Ghibli Vibes and the writing is just beautiful
Oh, yes! I see plenty that I have put on my 2025 TBR list. Your list is definitely a vibe that I'm partaking in. Thanks for the video!
I am SAT even though I'm trying to buy as few books as possible next year.
Oooh! Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the books you pick up 💕
“Eat the ones you love” sounds like a Little Shop of Horrors fanfiction lol
(I immediately added it to my tbr)
I'm going to come back to this when my reading journal arrives and I'll start working on my 'releases I want to read' list 🤪
Immaculate Conception and Ten Incarnations of Rebellion are on my most anticipated list too! Also tentatively looking forward to Sky Daddy and the Vera Wong sequel. But I'm most excited for Megan Giddings' new book Meet Me at the Crossroads
Was completely unaware of that anthology inspired by The Stand but very excited for it!
Thanks for the great suggestions. When do you announce the next book club pick??
Can’t wait for Water Moon, Emily Wilde, The Possession of Alba Diaz, the Amina Al-Sirafi book, and the new Emily Henry! 😍 Didn’t know about The Bewitching but it sounds great!
Completely missed hearing about Amina #2 so thank you for that!
Death of the Author sounds so good! Definitely also excited for Hot Wax
The Starving Saints Cover EXCUSE ME
Blob and Sky Daddy thouuugh hahahhaha
I would love to read Eat the Ones You Love for the literally dead Bookclub!
Almost all of these are some of my most anticipated as well!!
Ahhh I have such high hopes for Sky Daddy, I hope it’s great! 😍🤩
I’m having an ✨ anxiety ✨ day and idk why but this upload immediately made me feel a bit better so thank you for doing falalalala again I guess ♥️
Omg so many of these are on my anticipated list too 🥰
I will say, I read another book in that Tessa Bailey series you showed at the end and it was one of my least favourite books of the year 🙃 I hope for your sake that the new one is better

Silvia Moreno Garcia, R. F. Kuang, Seanan Maguire yes please. Water Moon sounds intriguing too.
The End of the World as We Know It. I’ve never pre-ordered something so damn fast. Now I just need to get a paperback copy of The Stand for a re-read. (Not annotating my first edition) thank you for putting it on my radar!
I'm sooooo excited for A Game in Yellow!!!
I’m so surprised The Unworthy by Augustina Bazterrica isn’t on here somewhere. I can’t wait because Tender is the Flesh and Nineteen claws were both my top reads each year I read them
you will love adrift... it was my favorite of the wayward childrens book
i know it's a book club pick for you, but i'm intrigued to hear your thoughts on the new grady hendrix book! i've read an arc of it and i'm very mixed on it, especially in regards to his rep of black characters - i think it'd be an interesting thing to discuss in a group setting.
oh god not again...
The Last Session, Emily Wilde and Onyx Storm are the 3 new releases I’m looking forward to the most.
It's the most wonderful time of the year!
For weird book lovers: Sayaka Murata (Convenience Store Woman, Earthlings) has a new book coming out called Vanishing World!
I have not read a single Stephen Graham Jones book, BUT have pre-ordered The Buffalo Hunter Hunter as the premise realllly intrigues me. I hope I love it!
I read an arc of water moon and I really liked it!
is 2025 the year of a fairy themed vlog? anyway, love this. i am SO excited for the besties little shop movie night.
I feel like I've been dying for Eat the Ones You Love forever because I thought it was coming out in April of 2024 not 2025 and I NEEEEED it
I can't remember if I commented this before, but there is a Honey & Spice sequel coming out next year!
Oh!!!
It sounds like A Game in Yellow might be inspired by The King in Yellow, a 19th century collection of horror short stories, some of which mention a play called "The King in Yellow" that makes people who read it (and maybe who see it?) go mad.
I read Sky Daddy as an ARC about a month ago. It was a trip (no pun intended). I think you'll enjoy it.
I can’t tell if I would even care about the new Julia Bartz book but after the absolute perfection that was The Writing Retreat, I obviously have to read it.
I've added Katabasis to my tbr though the only books I have read by that author is the Poppy war series which is historical fantasy
the way I'll be inhaling sky daddy the second it comes out cannot be overstated (!!!)
though can we talk about all those beautiful covers, kinda need water moon and eat the ones you love for that reason alone
I keep trying to get my TBR down because it's been at 270 books for the longest time...and now you made me add about 20 more books to that list...I'm never going to get it down, am I?
So excited for all of the weird books!
If you really liked The Stand I would recommend trying Swan Song by Robert McCammon. 900 ages. Good vs Evil. Apocalyptic.
Not sure if you’ve heard of Swallowed by Meg Smitherman but it comes out at the end of January and it’s erotic sci-fi horror. i had an ARC of it, and it was so good.
When i saw the buffalo book i thought "uh buffalo vlog" but then you cleared that is a vampire book 😂
Love this ❤❤❤❤❤
A few of those are on my TBR. I just wish I could find a full list of every book being released. It drives me crazy that I have to go to UA-cam to find the new releases and everyone is posting the same few. haha Google has not been my friend.
Well fuck my TBR just grew again like I’m not already years behind
I just read the arc for One Last Session and I was really hoping you’d read it!! I’d love to hear your thoughts!
Me too, I’m reading it now and am half way through… wee bit culty weird! 🫠
Some books on my radar that weren’t on your list: Julie Chan is Dead, You are Fatally Invited, and I might read the new Alice Feeney out of pure curiosity
I still have to read the first Emily Wilde book 😭
Appreciate the detailed breakdown! Could you help me with something unrelated: My OKX wallet holds some USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). How can I transfer them to Binance?
so many books too little time!!!! also you could not pay me to read that spider book omg
The Summer I Ate the Rich sounds interesting!
Blob. How I currently identify and what I’m looking forward to reading.
My TBR can’t handle this I fear
are you on any other reading trackers besiders Goodreads? i'm moving away from GR in 2025, but would love to continue following you on other platforms. do you use storygraph or fable? (if not, i'd highly recommend both!)

I look forward to Metamorphosis by Ross Jeffery 🦉
Just when I thought I had heard all of the possible pronunciations of katabasis… lol
Wait I just looked up the actual pronounciation and it was yet again one I hadn’t heard before
Please pick Eat the Ones You Love!!!
but T Kingfisher already has a Snow White retelling in Toad Words😪😪
Oh! A game in Yellow is a reference to Lovecraft! Hastuer and the Yellow Sign which makes people go into madness due reading a book
Actually Robert Chambers wrote the King in yellow. But lovecraft was inspired , I believe
I'm so surprised When the Wolf Comes Home by Nat Cassidy isn't here
@@tinadoesntreadthatmuch I haven't been a huge fan of Nat Cassidys stuff, I've only liked the one novella. I'll probably give it a go at some point depending if other people talk it up! 🤗
@@BooksandLala oh okay, I get it! thanks for the list, I can't wait for so many of these, especially horror stuff
The Hidden Path to Manifesting Financial Power ebook made me realize so much about attracting wealth, it’s insane
Abby jimenez will have a new book
❤❤
I’ve never not read comic strips, comic books graphic novels because that’s how I learned how to read growing up reading the Sunday comic strips so that Raven boys graphic novel kind of sounds right up my alley
another take a shot video in 12 months?????
I wonder if The Blob refers to the husband or the wife...either way it sounds sexist and hateful.
Maybe you should read the plot synopsis before passing judgement.
Sky Daddy arc was my fave read this year, 100% recommended!
The Last Session is good, it is culty but not too culty if that makes sense 😂 I liked it but didn't love it as much as The Writing Retreat 🫣
The little googly eyes on Blob 🥹
Also, Ocean Vuong is coming out with a new book too! ❤️can’t wait!
