  • ‪@jcondon1‬ Thank you for the advice on this generator!
    ‪@USCarburetion‬ Thanks guys for all the help!
    This customer is giving the generator to his son just south of me. After discussing the need to have alternative fuels in the event gasoline is not available or too expensive, they elected to install the Motor Snorkel Tri-Fuel Kit.
    As you will see in the video, don't believe the wattage ratings on the generator. In practice many of these overseas built generators are not realistic on wattage when you really load test them. It takes 2HP for every 1000 Watts under load to run properly. This being 13HP I was at best going to get 6kw, not 7kw as the label says.
    MAKE SURE TO ADJUST THE LOAD BLOCK OF THE TRI-FUEL KIT PROPERLY. LEANER IS BETTER ON PROPANE!
    The velocity choke modification I completely missed. Embarrassing for me as I should have read the instructions on page 4. This insures you can still choke the engine properly when using gasoline.
    Hope you enjoy the video! Questions please leave a comment!

      @@Bassguitarist1985 I love it! Shows the thought process & steps of ruling things out which isn't always what we think it is... at first. LoL 😆
      Not to mention, it's always good to have others to bounce ideas & suggestions around with. Two heads or 20 are better than one, right?

    really enjoy when you and others talk to each other, in this case James Condon. I watch him religiously and back when he started talking to you for help with blown regulators, hacking, and potential rebuilds, I then hooked to you too. Not big on audio stuff but love all the rest. As an electrical engineer (retired ) the electrical side of this stuff just floats my boat with how you figure stuff out. I am quite mechanically inclined despite being an EE, but spent me entire career in automotive in the ME side of things, yes an easy transition without all the math, formulas etc just more common sense.

    NIce job on the retorfit to propane. I am yelling at the video to always clean the jets, especially the low speed jet that always gets overlooked. When plugged or restricted they will almost always cause surging. I see this often in my shop. Sometimes I have to drill them up one or two mini drill sizes to get them to stop surging, thanks to the EPA. Good video.

      Yeah honestly I should have just went for the carburetor ultrasonic cleaning and save myself the trouble. I did use a micro drill for the idle jet but to the same size that it was already. Thank you for watching!

    I myself have installed two of these kits. They work great and the company is great to work with. Make sure when running on propane that the fuel valve(s) are closed. Not only will this lean out the mixture but it will allow dust to be sucked in to the engine via the fuel line {assuming the gas tank is empty}. Great job!

    The propane adaptor will act like a vacuum leak if not hooked up to propane by sucking in air or not ?

    • @Bassguitarist1985

      It acts as an air leak past the air filter only, not after the carb. No issue with dust cap in place

    My understanding is that it is: 1 H.P. (Mechanical)= 550 watts,generator power.
    Online is says approximately 750 watts to 1 H.P. In reference to basic physics. Guess there is some variation. Seems your numbers might be more realistic. Craig

    • @Bassguitarist1985
      @Bassguitarist1985  Рік тому +2

      One mechanical horsepower (imperial) is defined as a horse lifting 550 pounds (250 kg) by 1 foot in 1 second. Thats 745.7 watts. For reference, metric horsepower is 735.5 watts.
      Gasoline engines are not 100% thermally efficient, meaning all the energy from the fuel is converted to useable mechanical work. Instead 4 stroke gasoline engines with the Otto engine cycle are more around 28% efficient. The rest is lost in waste heat, frictional losses, etc. This is why manufacturers have to oversize the prime mover to compensate for the inefficiency. Thus the 2HP to 1kw measurement is the accepted standard in the industry.

    Hi! Just installed a motor snorkel. Have you try it on Natural gas? Because im just getting 40% of the total power of my generator. Is that normal for natural gas? Thanks

    • @Bassguitarist1985
      @Bassguitarist1985  10 місяців тому

      Definitely not. NG is not available in my area. Lot of factors to check when using natural gas. How far away from the meter is the generator hooked up? Diameter of hose? Is your meter putting out adequate volume/BTU (not pressure) to handle a hungry generator? Many things to consider.

    Got a tri fuel kit today and installed it. My generator is 8500 watts on gas. With what I had, I was able to evenly get 7200 watts. Set the load block, required removing it a lot keep voltage in an acceptable range. One it was there it ran the 7200 at 119v no problem.
    Problem was, it must have been so rich that when I dropped it back down to 500-1000 watts, it must now be too rich as the engine doesn’t run very smooth. My load block has a smaller pull out screw, not sure if that’s part of the problem.
    This is for emergency backup, and I never really need to run more than 4-5k watts so my plan is to lean it out a bit to avoid issues at lower power usage, but it does bother me that I can’t use the full range. It also bothers me that it’s not a true tri fuel as when switching to gas, low usage is fine but anything above 1500 watts and the air fuel mixture must not be right as it surges.
    This is a 3D printed model, not a snorkel. Would returning this one and going with motor snorkel solve these issues or just a general problem with these tri fuel kits?

    • @Bassguitarist1985
      @Bassguitarist1985  Рік тому
