you don't buy either car for the 1/4mile. they are suited for short - med tracks, tarmac rallying, gravel.. flat off roading rallying but makes sense seeing the evolution has an iron block, better off going 2JZ you can get used to a car's straight line acceleration very quickly and it soon becomes boring
Honestly, this evo made the transition into a more loaded car almost flawlessly. They added more options like 6 disc cd changer, dvd nav, premium sound system and other stuff that evos of old never had and still made a blistering fast car.
There is more to speed then peak power, area under the curve matters more and the 4b11t has a way smoother power curve and a lot more low end torque then the 4g63t. The reality (as much as some people still want to deny it) is that the 4B is a better engine than the 4G, it weighs approx. 25 lbs less, makes more torque, has a more efficient head design, responds as well or better to after market parts and tuning than the 4G and MAP makes a short block for it that they rate to 1200 WHP.
@NatoBord Dude you just answered it... The evo X has 291 hp and weighs about 1500+kg the Fq400 has 400hp and weighs about 1300-1400kg. the fq is worlds faster man, but very expensive and hard to drive as a daily.
i think this car has so much potential, they added weight and luxuries and didnt drop performance much if any.. which is saying something, now you can leave your stomach behind you on the track and then drive the car home and not have a sore bum etc afterwards.. its a WIN WIN in my book
depends on your country laws of exporting cars. In the USA when we export cars, evrything has to go through DOT. Then after it is cleared for saftey and emissions your allowed to bring it in, and insure it, they have specialty insurance companies for that. but all evo 9 parts are interchangable. Regardless if its USDM/EDM or JDM or eve ADm
Everyone says Evo X is heavy. Well a GTR weighs 400lbs more than an Evo x and everyone loves it. The X is plenty capable and looks more high end and sporty
wouldn't it be pretty easy though to take some weight off the new Evo? Like in the video it said the aftermarket could fix up this new Evo pretty easily.
i think that evo IX is more sport than the eno x but in track and the road with many corners evo x is the best!I dont know about you but i like most the evo x!Because i have one!!
B4 I didn't like the Xs rear, now it grew out on me. I love the way they look now. I have an VIII and, you're right about the engine being durable, cause it's a Cast Iron block. The paint on the X is not bad as the New Subbies. As 4 the 4B11 engines, its actually durable. People are blowin theirs cause the engine is new, they don't know how to tune it right yet. My friend got his X a year ago, and tracks it every week and its A DD. His car is at 50k miles already, and its still running strong..
The launch bogged and it appeared to be an automatic. I have reached 0-60 in 4.4 and did a 12.90 E.T with my Stock Evo X GSR. Weird how so many reviews are so different
They probably don't own the car and don't want to break the rear end or clutch. My X did 0-60 in 4.5 ish stock, but I can understand why they didn't abuse it.
Sounds like they bogged the launch during the 1/4 mile......I drive an 02 wrx and I am making similar acceleration numbers to this. I'm a Subaru fan, but the evo x LOOKS like a weapon
@JSlShow The Evo X's problem is not the engine but weight. It's 150kg+ heavier and the engine is actually producing the same power as the Evo IX. I've seen quite a few dynoed and the IX produces almost exactly the same power but has a more aggressive boost curve and keeps the power up top better. The steering on the X is also noticeably slower and less connected. I've driven the X many times and I would say the only advantages it has over the IX is comfort, stiffness and less turbo lag.
like our country(Malaysia) also..evo's were brought in here as a recondition car...d car has finally officially brought in here since the evolution 9 which were intro not long ago in japan...
@TheTechnoMuppet not so fast. 4g63t dominating 4b11t doesnt happen everyday. the new 4b11t is made up of aluminum meaning "lighter". The reason why Major tuning companies, like for example AMS, loves evo ix 4g63 is because the engine itself is already proven and ready to be abuse. The 4b11 needs some time to build up its name but that doesnt mean that evo 10 is slow. Yeah the X is slower because it is heavier yes that true but all of this depends on the car owner on how he tune his car
What are you talking about? Have you seen what AMS Performance has been getting out of this car with simple modifications? This is a GREAT car with a new great motor. I was skeptical at the beginning about this car, but many Evo tuners are getting some awesome numbers out of this car. I would recommend searching it. It's not that big of a disappointment at all.
This video is old and before any factory reflashes. Stock vs stock on a road coarse the X has show to be faster time and time again now days, and is making more power mod for mod. Not one bolt-on tuned IX made as much at a recent dyno day as the Xs that are just tuned that I attended just 3 days ago. Bolt on tune IXs where making 290 whp, a shelf map X put down 290, and Bolt on tuned Xs where easily in the the 310s and 320s with same mods as the IXs. Ryan Gates is Killing TA in his X.
@JTthestreetking Not at all, the 4B11T engine makes huge power with just simple bolt-on's. :3 It's so far proving to be even more responsive to modding than the previous 4G63 models. It may carry more weight, but can get a lot more power mod for mod. :D
it has alot of potential and great interior features, the only disadvantage i see, is the exterior looks. the XI may not have the same specs but it has the upper hand in exterior looks.
@Sorcablio very well said ^-^ the evo 9 MR is a much more "mechanical" car without the nice luxurious things of the evo X which is what i like cuz of the weight reduction. Nice to know some ppl know their stuff.
To gain experience and to further my career in within your company. I believe I will be a great asset to your company. I’m a hard worker and quick learner. I put a lot of pride and integrity in my work. I’m customer oriented and I multi-task with excellent customer service.
@Airox2009 Coming from a tuner's perspective. You really have to look into the MIVEC that the X uses. You have so much room to work with compared to the 8 and 9's. The kind of tune you can get on those is much better. I personally haven't had any experience, but with that being said.. I'm guessing you're saying the 7 will out run all 8, 9, and 10's? The Billstein shocks that comes with the Evo Xs, bigger brake + rotors, and stock 8.5" wide tires are still good improvements on the X. 7 has what?
@sodazman Which was resolved by a better suspension setting, .99g on a 200ft skippad. Wider tires, 18x8.5". And bigger brembo brakes. ;) Keeping the power up top is probably due to the IX having the biggest turbo out of the VIII + X. But you'll realize the X turbo's the most efficient, look where the intake + turbo is on the IX compared to the X. IX, it's right next to each other, sucking heat. The X turbo is far from where the intake is. And high end curve can be fixed, tighten the WGA. ;)
that and why would you want to put all that money into a FWD car anyway. The upgrades are much deeper than that. Intake, exhaust, internals, and tuning. The compression rate combined with the turbo alone makes a huge amount. to get any where close with a base lancer you would have to replace many internals and then tune it.
Agreed. The way the X is designed, it's too hard to tell the Lancer apart from the Evo. On the older Evos, it was sort of obvious everywhere (lights, hood, bumpers, etc.). =(
own a evo X and daily this alot driven a few older ones and they are little sharper feeling but think thats just down to little less weight and balance
@JSlShow Haven't had experience with the 7* It's not all about the weight. I heard the 7s tends to have a softer brake force. While the 8,9,X has better braking force. 17" wheels won't even fit on the Xs, 'cause the Brembo's been upgraded. Doesn't fit it, lol. Weight does factor in some, but that's why the 9's and X's especially has upgraded suspension. But considering cars only gets better, I'm sure the MIVEC on the 7's more limited. Compared to the 8.9.Xs. Go learn to log w/ a tactrix cable.
test drove x 300 manual.handling was good but there was no thrill from engine or speed, felt a bit to clinical.which was a shame as i really wanted one.found a mint ix fq 360,drove it,bought and love it,cant stop smiling..
I' d have to agree with you on that. The Evo III is damn impressive. Dont sit on the EVO V either, as the Tommi Ed. was actually based upon the EVO V shell.
i know bu its just that nissan is using the hype created by the skyline name to sell that car , not that they need to do so the cars performance is what sales the car
@JSlShow I've driven the IX many times and I like it more too but mostly because the engine is more responsive. Regarding the MR's transmission I was making close to 400hp atw for years without issues. It's not as strong as the 5sp in the RS but it's not as brittle as what most think either. If you launch the car every 5 minutes then obviously even the strongest transmission will break.
just remember the eco still was hitting close millisecond lap times at half the price of a gtr....imagine if you put the same amount of money into an evo as you pay for a stock gtr.... it wouldn't stand a chance at all
You mean RWD and midengine. Front engine & RWD is history since 1980. For instance in racing BMW's/C6R's/Aston martins, etc. they modify the cars so much the engine sits deep and almost next to the driver to keep up the myth front engine/RWD win races for the streetcar buyer. The racingcars are basically almost midengine cars. AWD on track is of little use as conditions are seldom so that AWD is an advantage. On a off road Rally track it's a whole other ballgame however. 1980 Audi Quatro.
@bonds911 true that. Im trying to get into autocross and rallycross and thats where my Evo should shine. Got some parts comming in to start my build on it so wont be the slowest for long ;)
@sodazman It's slightly faster, but the new 4b11t has proved itself, especially with the layout of the engine bay it's obvious that it's more efficient. The new Evo X also out handles the IX, and definitely the VIII. Considering that the Evo X has a smaller turbo stock than both the IX and VIII, still manages to produce 300ft-lb @ the same psi of what a IX would have.. means something right? If the Evo X had a FP Red(bigger), and a IX used a FP Red(same size). The Evo X would surpass the IX.
Yes but the GTR was designed with the weight in mind. That weight was necessary for their AWD system to work as good as it does. The Evo x and gtr are no comparisons. GTR competes super cars. The Evo x also feels very heavy compared to the 9. Ive driven both and the 9 is definitely sportier. Resale values prove it also. 9s go for same price as barely used 10s. Sometimes more.
Think it's because the Evo 6 is lighter - a bit like the early imprezas drive better than the later versions. Safety features are making it harder for manufacturers to keep the weight of the cars down :(
When is Mitsubishi going back to WRC? I wonder how this new platform will do against an all that hatchback competition next season.... (So far only Group N looks promising...)
@JSlShow You can't fix the weight problem by having better suspension, wider tyres or bigger brakes. The weight will always be there to affect the power to weight ratio and handling. I've driven both many times and used to own an 8MR and the X just doesn't have the agility or explosive grunt of the old car. To me it's just not as much fun to drive the X. While it's still a great car, I personally prefer the last gen one.
i love the 10 once i get a new job its byby to my evo 8 and ile be in one of these. like alot of ppl i didnt like the looks but i have just fallen in love with it after seeing what it can look like with a custom touch. (coilovers, some 19x10 advan rs, oem lips, two pc slot rotors, exhost, tint, arc fmic, raliart tails) omg i fucking love it thats gonna be my setup, for the looks at least
@princeofroyalty2 Check out the test @ yahoo of the X MR vs the G8 GXP. They use the launch control on the MR and get a 13.2. You are right about the GSR it get a 13.8-13.9. I honestly would get the GSR over the MR considering the price difference and the limits on the MR tho.
@sodazman The IX is a much better car than the VIII MR. The VIII MR does have a more "live feel" 'cause the suspension's too stiff. They tend to bump around, the IX has a slightly softer set up which makes it much better. And the MR (6sp) transmission's made out of glass, those things shatter under pressure.
@ninjamoto21 Actually, take a bone stock Evo IX, add a full 3" Turbo back exhaust, Lower Intercooler Pipe, cone filter intake and Manual Boost controller, get it tuned and you have 400-420BHP (300+ awhp) for a $2k investment. It's what I did and it's a lot cheaper than an FQ400. Find a clean IX for around $20k, add $2k in mods and tune and there is not much that will roll with it in that price range.
@tnhomeboy then the Evo MIVEC 2.0L should be configure in N.A and compete in FIAWTCC againts those Chev, Seat, .....? any car with extreame mods can get to 1000+bhp
According to their test, they are the same generally. Same pickup 0-60mpg... same shalom timings.. only the 1/4 mile the X is 0.3s slower than the IX. the X feels more like an FR than the IX... i guess thats it. Both are equally good =)
This is my own opinion, but I have an 06 Evo 9.. To me the front of the Evo X just looks like it's missing something in the front with all the black plastic, and the rear of the car looks like theres too much car from bottom of bumper to top of trunk. I personally like the 'family sedan' look of the 9 because it's so simple. The interior of the 9 has everything I need. Power locks, windows, a decent cd player and 4 doors to let my friends come and blow them away w/ the power and speed. my ,02
People are afraid of change you know how that goes. Once people drive the car they will love it. I got to drive my friends brand new Corvette with the paddle shifting and its not that bad so I will give this a chance.
Between all the rants of which one is better, lets just set the record straight: Appearance: Evo X - Evo IX Performance: Evo X - Evo IX Comfort: Evo X - Evo IX And why does the evo ix get ownership of that title? Simple, raw power and lower weight. Less electronics, and aggressive handling. Why does the evo x get the other 2? More comfort, more luxuries, and updated look that progresses from its predecessor. I dont own either, but driven them both a few times.
waited a long time for x after 2 test drives i was pretty disapointed,so i found a nearly new ix fq 360 bought it now i cant stop smiling.i think for everyday use the x would be a good car but weekend fun and sheer driving pleasure go ix all the way.....
probably. i like the evo9 better because it just is lighter and looks better. but if you stick the evo9's engine in there, then it'll beprety good. however, i'd rather just do some custom fabbing and give it a twin-turbo setup and some extra goodies
It is bizarre, Evo X looks good. I think the only reason people think earlier version looks better is because they got used to the aftermarket looks of previous gens. X is relatively new, wait til all these owners start to mod the look. I bet they will change their mind then.
i always knew the 9 would give it a lot of competition. what they should do is try making it lighter. cut down on some of the bodywork and maybe use carbon fiber in some areas
And to add to that, Mitsubishi ditched the legendary 4G63 engine for a newer design, a huge risk. What made the EVO different from the STI was it's cast iron heads, but now, it's a new engine that's full aluminium......
honestly, i think the EvoX MR that comes out in australia looks too much like a stock Lancer i wish it had a more aggresive stance and body but still a damn nice car
@sodazman A local shop of mine was producing 453WHP on his Evo IX with stock turbo + meth on a dynojet. After about the third or fourth tune, the synchros were totally gone. I won't lie, it'd be nice to have a IX too. But my main point + defense is, the X's is still underrated for the car it is. It's still proving itself over time, and yes like you said it is heavier, but I have to disagree on the whole "affects handling" even with the weight, and the MIVEC's been improved too for powerband.
i think every generation of evo has its own style, 10 is beautiful i think, it just changed too much compare to the 9. the shark face is aggressive, the tail shape is quite lifted which makes it sexy and impressive, in my eyes of course. i love evo 5 and 6, but 10 is the one for me to buy. if you think it`s too big, buy a kart, that`s small enough.
@CLFMo well I dont mean that way Its just that when u see an stock evo in europe or asia they have more horsepower have u seen top gear (bbc) the evo in the UK even the MR versions have up to 360-400 & can do 0-60 in 3.5 seconds! that is impressive for an 4 door car :) here in the united states though we only have 291 hp :( & 0-60 in almost 5 seconds...
:D i get mine this tuesday! octane blue gsr with nav. too bad they dont offer sunroof. :( its all aluminum roof. but im glad they swapped in that 4b11 for lighter weight. if not, i doubt it wouldve match the IX
what is wrong with the STi, it is an awd 4 cylinder turbo just as the evolution saying that you've pretty much saying the evolution is slow as well. they are both great cars. evo more track ready, STi everything else. then again if you want someone fast awd for the street just get a 2010 and up wrx better low end acceleration than both, good enough handling, braking good enough for the street.
i wouldn't call an evo a ricer car. ever. its a smart mans car. anyways, does the GSR have automatic / cutchless shift / stick all in one? or is that just the MR.
I love the evo x. I own a 9 MR. And I love it. Mainly because I paid it off. Haha.
Secondhandsmoke is the evo 9 the best one? What are your thoughts after owning
fredo7x true!
@fredo7 Mitsubishi went near bankrupt with the Evo X, they only sold something like 8k a year, so something like 80k sold over 10 years
you don't buy either car for the 1/4mile.
they are suited for short - med tracks, tarmac rallying, gravel.. flat off roading rallying

gotta love the makinen edition with rally stripes :P
Dr. Evo is Hiroshi Fujii, the platform manager for the Evo in Mitsubishi's research and development department.
Both Evos are cool. but give me the Evo 6 over both of them anyday!
Everyone says Evo X is heavy. Well a GTR weighs 400lbs more than an Evo x and everyone loves it. The X is plenty capable and looks more high end and sporty
Evo IV for me..... Born on the rally stage and it helped carve the Evo legend the X is trying to live up to and maintain now!!!
X is proved that its the next evolution, over all of them :)
wouldn't it be pretty easy though to take some weight off the new Evo? Like in the video it said the aftermarket could fix up this new Evo pretty easily.

+ronkerjake1 i got 4.2 in my final edition stock
+sheldon rhooms 3.3in my ralliart ;)
Shaun Patterson I got 3.0 seconds in my ralliart
Stephen Zamora I did 2.9 in my 1998 mirage coupe 1.8 L sohc stock, just header
Sounds like they bogged the launch during the 1/4 mile......I drive an 02 wrx and I am making similar acceleration numbers to this.

iron block? 4B11 is better balanced, square, stronger button
i like the bog off the start on every launch they did with the evo X
I feel like the evo IX has a sportier look and the evo X less...
Check out video of our Evo IX at 130 mph on gravel in a recent U.S. rally over at the ACPRally channel. We can't wait to start building an X to race.

@Beanione yea bro! its name doesnt even have the word skyline..yes its a new model however its simply the Nissan R35 GTR!!
It was more prone to happen on the 7bolt 4g63. 6bolt was less prone to crankwalk.
@Sorcablio very well said ^-^ the evo 9 MR is a much more "mechanical" car without the nice luxurious things of the evo X which is what i like cuz of the weight reduction. Nice to know some ppl know their stuff.

@psychoticflow1 The X is easy to mod as long as it's tuned. My buddy is running 350whp for just an intake and exhaust with tuned.
You can make a EVO in stock trim run 11 and 12's with much much less money compared to the STi.
@sodazman Which was resolved by a better suspension setting, .99g on a 200ft skippad. Wider tires, 18x8.5". And bigger brembo brakes. ;)

I do agree the back could be improved
Because it looks like front
How could you
Yeah, why tho?
CMON NEWER VERSIONS OF CARS ARE JUST GETTING HEAVIER! SHAVE OFF SOME WAIT AND I'LL LOVE IT! Its this that I love the evo 9 more!

i know bu its just that nissan is using the hype created by the skyline name to sell that car , not that they need to do so the cars performance is what sales the car
good news when my 4g63 engine can STILL compare to newest technology! Aftermarket upgrades on this new engine must make it insanely fast.
The MR version is nice, complain only after you have driven it.
just remember the eco still was hitting close millisecond lap times at half the price of a gtr....imagine if you put the same amount of money into an evo as you pay for a stock gtr.... it wouldn't stand a chance at all
You mean RWD and midengine. 1980 Audi Quatro.
what I really want is an evo 9.5, I LOVE things about both of them, but There is also a few things I would change
@bonds911 true that. Im trying to get into autocross and rallycross and thats where my Evo should shine. Got some parts comming in to start my build on it so wont be the slowest for long ;)
i still have an evo 9 as my dream car
@sodazman It's slightly faster, but the new 4b11t has proved itself, especially with the layout of the engine bay it's obvious that it's more efficient. The new Evo X also out handles the IX, and definitely the VIII. Considering that the Evo X has a smaller turbo stock than both the IX and VIII, still manages to produce 300ft-lb @ the same psi of what a IX would have.. means something right? If the Evo X had a FP Red(bigger), and a IX used a FP Red(same size). The Evo X would surpass the IX.
1G in the corners...damn. The look definitely had to grow on me, its beatiful in white.
How should it be faster than evo 9? has 15hp more but more weight? But its a much better daily drive, i would rather get the X :)
Sometimes more.
mhm, yeah i guess engine weight is really only an issues if you don't have much space for expansion eh? so then you have to add alluminum parts.
While it's still a great car, I personally prefer the last gen one.
i think ill stick with my evo 9... what was the point of designing a lighter and better preforming motor and redesigning the evo bigger and heavier
i love the 10 once i get a new job its byby to my evo 8 and ile be in one of these. like alot of ppl i didnt like the looks but i have just fallen in love with it after seeing what it can look like with a custom touch. (coilovers, some 19x10 advan rs, oem lips, two pc slot rotors, exhost, tint, arc fmic, raliart tails) omg i fucking love it thats gonna be my setup, for the looks at least
@AceCampano Aluminum Oxide for tin can, but Aluminum-Silicone alloy, Aluminum Magnesium alloy for.....
Can do the same with teh X tbh and have a lot more to be proud of than your straight line wins.
totally agree, the back just doesn't go well at all with the car... the front on the other hand has a nice aggressive look =)
IX > X
I know a couple nice x's running around but I'm not sure on their perfomance...Similar mods the IX seems to pull away.
Between all the rants of which one is better, lets just set the record straight:
Appearance:
Evo X - Evo IX
Performance:
Evo X - Evo IX
Comfort:
Evo X - Evo IX
And why does the evo ix get ownership of that title? Simple, raw power and lower weight. Less electronics, and aggressive handling.
Why does the evo x get the other 2? More comfort, more luxuries, and updated look that progresses from its predecessor.
I dont own either, but driven them both a few times.
waited a long time for x after 2 test drives i was pretty disapointed,so i found a nearly new ix fq 360 bought it now i cant stop smiling.i think for everyday use the x would be a good car but weekend fun and sheer driving pleasure go ix all the way.....
well i know the crankwalk thing is a bit overblown but are you saying the evo motor is a 6 bolt like the 1G eclipse?
@ninjamoto21 the Evo 8 FQ-400, bu tits only sold in the UK
probably.
i like the evo9 better because it just is lighter and looks better.
but if you stick the evo9's engine in there, then it'll beprety good.
however, i'd rather just do some custom fabbing and give it a twin-turbo setup and some extra goodies
What made the EVO different from the STI was it's cast iron heads, but now, it's a new engine that's full aluminium......
honestly, i think the EvoX MR that comes out in australia looks too much like a stock Lancer
i wish it had a more aggresive stance and body
but still a damn nice car
The X is the best evo yet, it's that simple
@tnhomeboy cool thanx! but that might be a problem because I dont have a mitsubishi evo & I dont have a drivers license :(
what is wrong with the STi, it is an awd 4 cylinder turbo just as the evolution saying that you've pretty much saying the evolution is slow as well. they are both great cars.
evo more track ready, STi everything else.
then again if you want someone fast awd for the street just get a 2010 and up wrx better low end acceleration than both, good enough handling, braking good enough for the street.
i wouldn't call an evo a ricer car. ever. its a smart mans car.
anyways, does the GSR have automatic / cutchless shift / stick all in one? or is that just the MR.
