    problem is guys like Ryan, Tonon and Cummings control the other leg by crossings your legs together, especially if they get a sankakou around both legs you're screwed. Like John Danaher says, 95% of the resistance when you're going for the ashi garami comes from the leg that is not getting heel hooked, that's why you control that leg too. If Toquinho learned the Danaher leg lock system he'd be hurting way more guys

    Funny how 20 years ago Brazilian BJJ guys frowned on leg locks and saw them as bad sportsmanship. Then along comes Lister and Danaher's crew in the last few years and now even the Gracies are posting videos on counters to leg locks. Scrambling to catch up because Danaher's guys and the Australian guy Craig Jones are absolutely shredding the best in the world with the simplest of leg lock approaches.

      joopsnoop because theyre easy to do. And easier to finish. It is terrible sportsmanship, its about being the best, not winning the easiest.

      remember that a kickboxer can easily beat a boxer (who isn't familiar with leg kicks) simply by kicking him. Yes in Boxing, kicking is illegal. However if a boxer doesn't study anything about kicking and he fights a kickboxer, he will have big problems..

    • @joopsnoop
      @joopsnoop 6 років тому

      See, comments like that are kind of obvious but you give it a lot more sense. And Danaher gives you credit for his epiphany precisely because of a similar simple comment that changed his whole approach. Respect.

      If it is within the rules and done with agreement between all concerned how is it terrible sportsmanship? What is terrible sportsmanship, I think, is when someone innovates a profoundly successful technique that beats everyone so people cry foul.

      lol leg locks are easy! not as easy as gi chokes.....the only reason leg locks are easy is because people avoid practicing them. don't agree? try leg locking the catch guy......

    Knee blocker > 50/50 or figure four/covered heel. Blocker controls the distance and makes this defense much harder to use if both competitors are of similar size. For the guy in 50/50 trying to apply the heel hook, the Imanari "steering wheel" toe hold would be the next thing in the chain imo. Hand goes over the top, rather than scooping along the mat so the opponent cant use their other foot very effectively. Once applying pressure down on the toes to turn the heel out you can just grab the heel, switch to a heel hook since the heel is exposed or traditional toe hold. If they straighten the leg youre already in kneebar position. Leglocks lend themselves to catch wrestling flow.

    Dean Lister you seem like a really cool guy and a friend of mine runs a fairly large school. If you do seminars how would I have him contact you about potentially setting something up?
    If you don't do seminars I understand I just thought I'd ask and I saw you commenting in here somewhere.

    That's awesome, but does it matter which foot is on top when you cross your feet?

    • @DJBiermann
      @DJBiermann 7 років тому

      Seeker Land I'm pretty sure your inside foot is over the outside or else you run into the same counters as 50/50, e.g. inside heel hook, leg lace...

    • @SeekerLand
      @SeekerLand 7 років тому

      at 2:26 Dean has his outside foot on top of the inside, and at 4:02 outside is on the bottom...so
      I wonder...

      Lol that's funny, idk were I stand but I definitely learn a lot of jujitsu/and grappling technique's on YT, however due to social media and other factors, ex possibly outside factors like unemployment ECT ECT , I find it hard to learn and focus, same thing goes on when I fight; I mean I have trouble learning things quickly anyway (ask my instructors) lol! anyway I mainly blame social media, but yeah I'm like him idk internet terms either , so when I click on these videos : adding everything up outside circumstances, new lingo from social media , the attention economy, plus my own pace or way that I learn, it creates a situation where I go from working with a triple digit iq , to a low digit double digit iq , no real fault of my own , I know I should focus on working on meditation/concentration, like a monk , like some advisors have said,..... but it's easier said than done. I just wish we lived in a modernized society were we can embrace progress vs all the other crap that comes from smartphones, and social media. That's the way it used to be , at least for me anyway.......I think? some might feel the same way, (actually i know theres some) maybe? that's what Daniel is saying, learning it hands on, is the best. Fortunately for me I have time and determination when wanting to learn a grappling concept, (I do it all the time) but then the problem changes , it goes from not learning, to staring into my phone like a zombie/robot , for hours and hours, playing a move on repeat over and over and over again, which is partly what's wrong with humans and the world today, oh well either way , I'm kinda of a fan or I at least respect u, and your jujitsu abilities are mighty/intimidating to say the least. I really enjoy/learn on the shorter videos
