Eric Clapton is the only person to have been inducted into the rocnk´n´roll hall of fame 3 times. One of the greatest guitarists of all time. He spans genres like no other. So you can get funky to slow ballad, to hard rock, to soul and of course lots of blues. Some of his solos on live performances are just legendary. I´m sorry you didn´t choose a more recent live version of this song. But if you react to him in the future, don´t be surprised if it´s a completly different genre and style. There are plenty of great live versions of his hits on youtube. Check them our. He´s a rabbit hole you won´t get out of for many years to come. I promise you that.
Clapton is probably best known for his up-tempo rockers like "Layla", "Lay Down Sally", and "Cocaine". But he's done some slow ballads too, like "Tears in Heaven" and "Wonderful Tonight". Before he went solo, Clapton was in a band called Cream, which is also worth checking out: "White Room", "Sunshine of Your Love", "Badge", etc.
@JKevinCarrier Thx for writing all that out so I didn't have to. Ha. Britt - what he said. 😊 EC (and many singers) often have their usual style but then sprinkle in a number of songs with other styles - for good measure among their music catalogue. I must say I have not heard this live version, I always listened to the radio version or something from the studio album. This live version sounded more reggae than what I am used to. But I always heard Eric Clapton's version for many years before I ever learned that it was a Bob Marley song. And then I found out tons of people have covered it. LOL but mostly the ones I've heard of other artists they do it just like Bob Marley did but I've only heard EC do it differently but maybe there are others as well. I know the song you were talking about that you must have reviewed previously which was Tears in Heaven about his son who fell out a multi-story building window. That was definitely way more slow and melancholy, different. Yes but the man is a maestro on the guitar. 💜 Thx for this review! 🌷
"Before he went solo..." Clapton was in John Mayhalls Blues Breakers, The Yardbirds, Cream, sat in with the Beatles, Blind Faith, and Derek and the Dominoes.
Clapton is considered a top-five guitarist all time and there’s many incarnations of Eric and his bands but most of his stuff is rooted in the blues. Many great albums still touring and has played with many different musicians. If you remember Derek and the dominoes in the song Layla that’s Eric teamed up with Duane Allman after playing with him on the Layla album stated he had finally found his musical brother He’s played on Beatles and George Harrison’s albums and I could go on and on with all the bands. He is definitely on the mount. Rushmore of guitar players. So much great music.
Eric Clapton is one of the greatest guitarists of all time. Go check out more of his music. I´ve seen your reaction to Cocaine about 10 months ago. You´ll find plenty of extraordinary live performances. Try some more recent ones. He is known to be comofortable in very different genres. From slow pop ballads, to hard rock, blues, country,.. Jesus, the list is endless. Musicians like that don´t exist anymore. it´s crazy what a cataloge of songs this guy has. He had an amazing career. From the wild 60´s where he played with Hendrix and the Beatles, to this day when he´s almost 80 and relases covers of Willie Nelson as a tribute for his 90th birthday. He is a legend of rock and a legend of blues (working with Buddy Guy, BB King, etc) You will have fun exploring his songs, trust me. Try reactions to live perfomances after the year 2000.. You can find lots of his most memorable songs on his Crossroads guitar festivals (he does one every 3 years). They feature him with some of the best musicians of all time.
"I Shot The Sheriff" was written by Jamaican reggae musician Bob Marley & he recorded it in 1973 with his band the Wailers. Eric Clapton did a great cover of this song in 1974.
He's one of the very greatest and most famous rock guitarist. He led the band Cream in the 1960s. His first super hit was Sunshine of Your Love, and Layla is everyone's favorite! White Room, Lay Down Sally are also insanely good. Played with 9 different top bands. A leading spokesman for Rock music!
THATS the Great PHIL COLLINS on the DRUMS!! 😉👌 And Clapton Started Playing Blues in 60s, BUT COULD play ANYTHING and then career-wise went into Rock in 80s, Country, Bit of Bob Marley/Jamaican stylie for good luck and then started Playing acoustic sets in the early 90s started with Unplugged really(maybe 92?) but he has also sat in with and played Jazz and big band stuff on the quiet innrecent years, also played eith Pavarotti before he died. But he pretty much Plays EVERY style!! (But in his own style!) He's probably THE COOLEST Guitarist that ever lived, REAL Ladies man(shopping list of models, supermodels and female musicans that would take an hour to list!) Mad to think hes the same age as my Dad whi uswd to go watch him live on a friday or Saturday night in London with the other greats in the 60s and early70s! lol 😂😉😎👌🎸🏴🇬🇧
CLAPTON IS GOD! was a 60's slogan seen painted and drawn all over from signs to buildings to bathroom walls. Clapton performed with several iconic groups. The Yardbirds, John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers, Cream, Derek and the Dominoes, Blind Faith & of course his solo work.
Clapton started out in hard/psychedelic rock groups like Cream and The Hollies, where he first earned the nickname "Slowhand" for his incredible guitar playing. He has been compared favorably over the years to greats like Jimi Hendrix and Terry Kath of Chicsgo for his guitar skills. I loved him in Cream growing up especially.
@tonyherrera2570 In thinking about it, I realized I didn't get the same of the band wrong--it was the wrong artist lol. I was thinking of Graham Nash, not Eric Clapton for some reason. don't ask me why. I'm quite familiar with Cream, but The Hollies are a band I heard a million times growing up, but I never memorized who the band members were.
He's singing it a bit more like the reggae cadence vs how he recorded it. This is a great rendition! He has a base in early Rock, but he loves the Blues. He's one of the GOATS of guitar work! Love Clapton!!! Try Bell Bottom Blues, Cocaine, or Layla!! ❤❤❤❤❤
The PERFECT way to start your day & His MOST uplifting song ever..Bob Marley "Three Little Birds"...R.I.P. Robert Nesta (Tuff Gong) Marley..One Love For True..Rastafari 🙏❤️
Eric Clapton is in the legends category. This man does it all. Pop, rock, blues, R&B, you name it he's done it. You can't put him into one genre. #LEGEND
Eric Clapton, Phil Collins, Greg Phillinganes and Nathan East....one of the best line-ups. 😀 They enjoyed it so much, they actually called it 'The Heaven Band'. 😉
Eric Clapton is known for his guitar playing above everything else! Known for his rock and blues guitar and is always near the top of the list of the best guitarists!
One of the first Eric Clapton 45s we had in our record collection. It was on repeat so often that I'm sure the needle was making a few grooves of it's own. I like the SWAGG Eric Brought to this rendition.
This was one of the first singles released by Clapton as a solo artist. The bands he was in were legendary - The Yardbirds (which later evolved into Led Zeppelin), The Blues Breakers, Cream, Blind Faith, Derek and the Dominos, The Plastic Ono Band. He played lead guitar on The Beatles’ While My Guitar Gently Weeps. Even though they sound nothing alike, Eddie Van Halen said that Clapton was his biggest influence as a guitarist.
"Wonderful Tonight", "Bell Bottom Blues", "Layla", "Lay Down Sally", and "Cocaine"... and of course any song by the band "Cream". Yes, Clapton can play guitar, He's quite mild here in the 70's they called him "Slow Hand" because he was so quick. He's one of the most famous guitarist in the 60's and 70's. When he played with John Mayall Bluesbreakers and The Yardbirds young people spray painted "Clapton is god" on signs in London.
Yes Eric’s talent bloomed where he could do it all…This guy is a Legend…He did loose his son when he fell out of an apartment window 🪟…He went on to write ✍️ no more tears 😭 in heaven afterwards which you should check out…Eric has so many great songs…He will go on to be a Legendary figure in music.🎶
Eric Clapton is one of the greatest guitar players to ever live. Listen to the song Riding With The King he performed with B.B. King-it is a classic blues rocker song.
He pretty much started his career with the Yardbirds. Then other groups Cream, Derek and The Domino's, Blind Faith. then an amazing solo career. His first love has always been the blues. And easily on of the best guitarists of all time.
Check out Wonderful Tonight ... by Eric Clapton it is a slower but super cool song .. oh yea Eric is the top 10 best guitarist ever . Nicely done Mrs Britt ..
I LOVE Eric Clapton! He’s the only artist to be inducted into the rock n roll hall of fame three times, once with Cream, once with Derek and the Dominos and as a solo artist. He even dated Cheryl Crow!
He's performed many different versions of this song over the years. Yes, it's the delivery of the lyrics that makes it different. When I saw this tour I always thought he was "keeping it fresh", and fun. As I remember the tour I saw had 3 members of the band Dire Straits and every intro began as a beautiful Dire Straits mysterious lead into a song we all knew.
As others have already noted, Clapton is one of greatest guitarist of all time. He’s a legend. And for what it’s worth… that hat is hurting me too. Sincerely, San Diego Padres fan 🤣
Eric was just playing the song as the session broke for lunch and the drummer and bass player were digging it and by the time the producer and engineer came back from lunch, they had a chart to play
Eric Clapton started in the mid 60s in a pop/rock band called The Yardbirds - though blues is what inspired him to play. I think he covered this song initially in 1977.. around the same time he recorded Cocaine. He’s got a big catalog of hits that would be fodder for some cool reaction videos. PS, that’s Phil Collins on the drums. Another one with a bunch of good tunes.
Eric is so versatile. He has done just about everything in his career. Look him up at the Crossroads Blues Festival....many regard him as best guitar player ever. No doubt, amomg the very best. So hard to compare...but, he is amazing. I believe he is nocknamed slow hand...keep diving on eric, please.🙂
He was part of the early British Blues explosion with John Mayall and the Bluesbreaker, and also Derek and the Dominos, and super group Cream, among others.
lol- I thought that guy looked familiar! Should've known - Eric loves getting guests to join him. Come to think of it, he has some things in common with Chris Stapleton.
Yes, it’s the way he’s arranging it. His recording sounds a lot different. But he usually changed up the tempo etc of some of his popular songs when he was live. 😊One of the best guitarists ever 😊
clapton was part of a rock blues group the yardbirds in 1963 that went on to the rockhall of fame, then the blues breakers then he was in the group derek and the dominoes and then as a solo artist.
He has played with The Yardbirds 63-65,JohnMayall and The Bluesbreakers65,Cream66-68,Blind Faith68-69, Delaney Bonnie &Friends, Derek & The Dominos ,Plastic Ono Band ,The Dirty MAC and The Beatles .
Eric is a huge fan of reggae music and has spent a lot of time in the Caribbean…he even set up a drug rehabilitation clinic, called the Crossroads Centre, after the infamous tale about one of his blues heroes Robert Johnson, in Antigua after he got himself out of that world of hurt himself!
EC plays the music differently than on the recordings. He said he didn’t want the audience (or himself) bored. I still remember the “CLAPTON IS GOD” graffiti.
Eric Clapton is one of the best guitarist ever everyone knows this he said when ask how it feels to be one of the best he said I don’t know ask Prince you can google it 100% true
Also a member of the Yardbirds and John Mayall's Blues Breakers in his early years. The Yardbirs had Clapton, Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page in the bans on guitar at one time or another.
He's on the MOUNT RUSHMORE of great guitarists. In the UK, "Clapton is God" was a popular graffiti tag. Classic Clapton. He and the Police did a lot to introduce Americans to the reggae sound. For a long time Eric felt like he wasn't a good enough vocalist to be a front man - though I think he's also just shy. He spent years as a shut-in while dealing with his addiction issues. "Cocaine" is another classic Clapton jam, though "Layla" is by far his best ever creation (and that's a story song with a huge story behind it). Clapton has toured so long he'll re-arrange stuff just to keep it fresh. He's had a VERRRRRRY long career, and has changed a lot - always goes back to blues music eventually.
Yeah, he plays with the lyric phrasing in a lot of his songs. One of the more underrated singers in rock/blues. He is perhaps the first iconic guitarist. In London in 1967, the biggest graffiti phrase on walls was "Clapton is God" He was in The Yardbirds, and Cream, fell in love with his best friend, George Harrison of The Beatles, ended up marrying her, but eventually they parted ways as well. Listen to the song Layla, that's his screaming pleasure for Patty to be with him instead of George
TRUST ME on this MUST HEAR classic my music lovin' sister,, Diana Ross "Love Hangover" ❤..If there's a cure for this,, I don't want it,, Don't want it. 🎶
Brit. Go down the rabbit hole. There is a well known phrase which reads “Clapton is God”. While he’s not, the man has so many bangers. Especially if you check out his blues music and his masterpiece unplugged album. Anyway, yeah. The man can play the guitar. And sing. Great reaction!
Clapton is God is a 1960's meme. Spray painted on London wall in 1965, even has it's own wikipedia page. Clapton has been a great guitarist for a long time.
Clapton once did say that he wanted to make an album with Bob Marley. Unfortionally Bob Marley passed away. Although Eric Clapton did make an album with Peter Tosh.
I love how different Slow-Hand's version is from Bob Marley's original. More Rock than Reggae, but that's Clapton's signature on it. I also love what Ren did with it! Note to Britt: Eric Clapton a.k.a. Slow-Hand is an exceptional guitar player first with singing & songwriting close behind. Besides being a solo act, he played with Derek & The Dominoes, and Cream.
He does a rock/reggae version of this Marley classic! Had a hit w/ it too…scope out “Bad Love” (w/ Phil Collins on skins/Harmony vocal)…”Let It Rain”…ima be waiting patiently!
The name "Eric Clapton" is synonymous with "Guitar Icon". He is originally from Great Britain, and he played guitar on some of the Beatle's tunes. In fact, if I remember right (I'm sure I'll be corrected if not) but his song "Layla" is about the same girl as George Harrisons song "Something".
Since 1966 when "CLAPTON IS GOD" was the popular graffiti of the time. His guitar prowess in unmatched by many. He is in the Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimmy Page, Eddie Van Halen class of being influential on guitar. These are the right words, you may just not remember all the verses.
😵"I did not realize that this man could play the guitar like this." And I did not realize I could slap my forehead so hard I got a concussion. 🥛You do not know Eric Clapton if you have not listened to Cream.🎇 ⛅🎸"Oh wow. God is really cool!" Yee-ikes.
There are other great version Clapton did of this song. For instance his version from : Crossroads 2 Live Boxset - Crossroads Festival - Live At Hyde Park - Live At The Old Grey Whistle Test. Those are just a few of maaany.
Your first reaction to him was Tears in Heaven where he was singing about the death of his son, so a very different vibe from his usual array of genres. He is one of the all time greats.
He has meant more and done more for the rock-n-roll industry than any human being alive.... not even arguable! Why else would they have inducted him 3X. I loved his work with John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers back in the day (1966). EC is 78 and can still deliver. God might cry another flood when he passes.
That is the iconic Phil Collins on drums btw along with Nathan East on Bass, a premier rhythm section Eric put together. FTI, Eric Clapton [aka, Slowhand] is more known for his guitar prowess and at a time was considered a Guitar God in the rock industry, Fender Guitars even made his own signature Stratocaster guitar... you have a LOT of catching up to do.
If you want to see an even younger version of Clapton? You should react to “Crossroads” performed by Cream (Jack Bruce, Ginger Baker, and Eric Clapton) in 1968. Eric takes the lead vocal on the song and does a magnificent job singing and playing. It’s really worth a view…😊👍🏼👍🏼.
"I did not know this man could play the guitar..." are words that no one has ever said about Eric Clapton before.
IKR! Britt doesn't realize he was considered one of the very top guitarists, and he's still part of that all-time list.
He is considered one of the best
😂
Hilarious!!!!
He IS guitar. Most everybody else is just tryin' to catch up.
True dat 😂
You can't nail Eric Clapton down to any specific type of music. The man is a guitar genius! One of the worlds greatest!
Eric Clapton is the only person to have been inducted into the rocnk´n´roll hall of fame 3 times. One of the greatest guitarists of all time. He spans genres like no other. The Layla/Wonderful Tonight combo probably gets him into the PDC eventually.

"I Shot The Sheriff" was written by Jamaican reggae musician Bob Marley & he recorded it in 1973 with his band the Wailers. Eric Clapton did a great cover of this song in 1974.
Claptons cover of this song did much better than Marley's. This version is sung way different than Clap tons 1974 version.
Good job repeating what Eric said before he covered the song…
knowing now that it was written by Bob Marley, that line "Every time I planted a seed, he'd say kill it before it grow" makes a lot more sense!
Eric Clapton is one of the best guitarrist of all time! In any list he is at least in the top 5.

And the great Phil Collins on left-handed drums.

Eric was in eight bands, I’ve never heard or read of him ever being in The Hollies.
Eric was never a member of the Hollies. You probably meant the Yardbirds…
@@tonyherrera2570 Sorry, I was winging it and didn't stop to doublecheck, just went off an obviously faulty memory lol. Thanks for the correction.

This song was a hit around 1975 for Clapton, originally Bob Marley's song.
My favourite Clapton period was his time with the UK rhythm and blues band John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers. Well worth a listen.
Eric Clapton is one of the best guitar players ever

The MUST reaction of Eric Clapton is Double Trouble live. It is the peak of blues singing and guitar work
Eric Clapton is known for his guitar playing above everything else! Known for his rock and blues guitar and is always near the top of the list of the best guitarists!
He’s giving this a funk vibe with blues vocals.
Cream - I feel free (1966), Sunshine of your love (1967), White room (1968)
Derek and the Dominos - Layla (1970)
Wonderful Tonight LIVE with the beautiful Katie Kissoon
Yes and Tearing us Apart, Knebworth 1990, she sings the Tina Turner part
Clapton is the yardstick by which guitarists are measured for 60 years. Great vocalist also.
He is indeed very cool. This video is from the mid eighties, which was a highly underrated era for Clapton. This was a fantastic band.
One of the first Eric Clapton 45s we had in our record collection. It was on repeat so often that I'm sure the needle was making a few grooves of it's own.

One of the greatest blues/rock guitarists ever.
He's very well known for his guitar playing. Earning the name "slowhand". He's awesome. Used to be in the band Cream.
He is just known as one of the best guitarist ever!

This was really the first time most American and English rock fans ever heard Raggae music and really led to Bob Marley hitting the big time/
Eric Clapton is one of the best guitarist ever everyone knows this he said when ask how it feels to be one of the best he said I don’t know ask Prince you can google it 100% true
Also a member of the Yardbirds and John Mayall's Blues Breakers in his early years. The Yardbirs had Clapton, Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page in the bans on guitar at one time or another.
Phil collins absolutely makes this version. A thing of beauty!!!
The Live Aid version of Layla is probably his best performance.
The Layla version from 1986 at the NEC, Birmingham is stunning.
Brit. Go down the rabbit hole. There is a well known phrase which reads “Clapton is God”. While he’s not, the man has so many bangers. Especially if you check out his blues music and his masterpiece unplugged album. Anyway, yeah. The man can play the guitar. And sing. Great reaction!
Clapton's most famous song is "Layla"becaue of th populaity of tis song many girls were named after it by their parents inspired by Clapton
If you believe if the afterlife; then, you can clearly hear the greats of the past coming thru via Eric's guitar!
This is live, and yes he's singing it completely different from his 1977 album (it a Bob Marley remake).
"Every day, the bucket goes to the well, one day the bottom will drop out..."
You need to react to his "Wonderful Tonight" and the PDC will have a new member. It's my favorite love song.
"Andy's the Sheriff, and Barney is the Deputy."
Bob Marley made some great amazing songs. Hope they do the movie of him well. Great cover by Eric Clapton. R.I.P. Bob Marley
First and foremost, a bluesman. Top 10 alltime guitarist ever is a safe call.
Certainly considered a top five guitarist of all time by most everyone! Thanks for the reaction!
No doubt!
“Forever Man” is one of his later songs, but it’s one of my favorites.
He does a rock/reggae version of this Marley classic! Had a hit w/ it too…scope out “Bad Love” (w/ Phil Collins on skins/Harmony vocal)…”Let It Rain”…ima be waiting patiently!
Britt, You said "1986 that's before I was born!" Eric Clapton originally covered this 1973 Bob Marley song in 1974! So this was 12 years later! LOL!
Clapton is the original guitar god ❤
😵"I did not realize that this man could play the guitar like this."
And I did not realize I could slap my forehead so hard I got a concussion.
🥛You do not know Eric Clapton if you have not listened to Cream.🎇
⛅🎸"Oh wow. God is really cool!" Yee-ikes.
There are other great version Clapton did of this song. For instance his version from : Crossroads 2 Live Boxset - Crossroads Festival - Live At Hyde Park - Live At The Old Grey Whistle Test. Those are just a few of maaany.
he is rated one of the best guitar players
Known by Rolling stones magazine and other publications as the best rock guitarist of all time. Clapton is a legend in the rock world
I wish you did the reaction to the 2004 crossroads version. One of my favorite Clapton performances of all time.
Please check out Eric's song "Wonderful Tonight" Official Live. Great Reaction Britt
I’ll check it out!
Oh, I forgot, he has got like a 55 year career and even played on a Beatles song.
