Eric Clapton is called "slow hand" because of how he plays the guitar. He can seem to be going slow but he has some of the most incredible guitar playing that you hear ever heard.
@@thomashiggins9320 Actually it started in the Yardbirds. When he snapped a string, the fans would slow hand clap him while he was restringing his instrument. This story was originally told by Yardbirds bass player Chris Dreja.
@@thomashiggins9320 Actually, that is not quite right. When he was playing in the clubs in London in the 60s and would break a string (because of his aggressive playing with Bluesbreakers), he would need to re-string, then of course tune, because they had no extra guitars or roadies, then. So the audience would clap while waiting. And it took time. Kevin--it has nothing whatsoever to do with how he plays, slow or fast, which he does both, as appropriate for the song.
I believe it’s about how he used to always break strings - and the band (I believe Derek and the Dominos )would have to wait for him to slowly restring his guitar.
one of the best guitarists ever ~ when asked that he said - he didn't know - ya have to ask Roy Clark!!!! I love to slow dance to this back in the 80-90's!!! I never did cocaine back in the day but I stood up & sang to this song!!! I am 74 & I still rock out to this song from my walker!!!! Hey Britt - I can vacuum up a storm to this!!!!!
Great song performed by Eric Clapton and written by the GREAT Singer and song writer J. J. CALE. He also wrote After Midnight that was made famous by Clapton, They Call Me the Breeze made famous by Lynyrd Skynyrd. Eric Clapton and J.J. Cale did an album Road to Escondido together and it won Album of the Year. Just some history for ya.
Eric Clapton is the only 3 time inductee in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. 1st with the Yardbirds his first band. His second is with the band Cream and the last on for his solo work. He is considered one of the top 3 guitarist of all time. He at one time held the Crossroads Guitar Festival for the worlds best guitar players. A true legend still rocking from the 60s. Dig into his music.
Eric Clapton is one of the best musicians, and his story is truly great. He is one of the musicians that inspired me to take up guitar years ago. Eric is definitely a rock legend, but his support and contribution to the blues music scene is truly phenomenal and overlooked. Please review more of his music!
This song is from his 1977 solo album Slowhand, which a lot of fans consider to be his best. You should also check out Lay Down Sally, Mean Ole Frisco, and Wonderful Tonight from the same album. For most of his career Clapton has been considered the blues-rock guitar GOAT.
Eric Clapton is one of the best guitarists in the world. Easily in the top ten in history. He had a band before called Cream. One of their biggest hits was White Room. It's pretty awesome too.
I really enjoy your reactions. Eric Clapton is my favorite artist of all time. And he's the only person inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 4 times. And easily one of the two or three best guitarists of all time. You might want to react to Wonderful Tonight.
I've seen Clapton twice in concert, once rock, one "A Night of the Blues". Both were amazing. The man made love to his guitar. Layla - there are two great versions. The original studio version, and the unplugged version, very different, and written about George Harrison's wife (who Clapton then got together with). Wonderful Tonight is my favorite love song ever. Tears in Heaven is the one you heard before. White Room was All 70s fun. Sunshine of Your Love, Can't Find my Way Home, Change the World, Lay Down Sally, Crossroads, and the classic, I Shot the Sheriff. Something really trippy like Tales of Brave Ulysses. Bell Bottom Blues. It's in the Way that You Use It. Let it Grow. She's Gone.
Yes me and my band coverd this song for the first time in 1978 a friend of ours came back from the States with a tape of J.J. Cale, the composer of this song, we got crazy and we coverd it and it still is in our repertoire you should hear the original. Stay safe
This was a JJ Cale song. It is one where, the vibe is more than the lyrics. Like other commenters said, His life is a musical journey . Every band he played with after Cream had its own style..from southern boogie to reggae. Always returning to his first one, the Blues. Should hear some of his work with BB King. Also you should listen to his first recording of Cross Roads to hear where his Guitar playing legend was based. 2nd solo left me with chills down my spine! Still does!
Eric Clapton has a huge catalog, he was a founding member of the Yardbirds that eventually morphed into Led Zeppelin, left their because they were getting to mainstream to join Cream a supergroup with two other big time musicians, he was friends with Jimi Hendrix, he was the 6th Beatle their last album he did a lot of the guitar work on it, tried to steal George Harrison's (Beatles guitarist) wife, re-did Bob Marley's song Who Shot The Sheriff, formed a band with Duane Allman of the Allman Brothers and had maybe his biggest hit with them in Layla (a song about George Harrison;s wife) that band was called Derrick and the Dominoes, he then became huge friends with Stevie Ray Vaughn and was touring with him when Vaughn died. In between a lot of this were drug addiction hard times ect, then in the 90's I think he did the first MTV Unplugged where he sang Tears In Heaven about his sons death. He may have lived the most rock and roll life ever....
The studio versions & videos are so much better than alot of live versions of songs. This and The Dance by Garth that you did is so much better on the video versions
He’s part of the British blues scene. He’s also the only artist to be inducted into the rock ‘n rock hall of fame three times, once with the group Cream, the group Derek and the Domino’s and as a solo artist.
If you wanna hear some keys (and guitar with extreme swagger, of course) check out Stevie Ray Vaughan doing a live version of "Couldn't Stand The Weather", 1985, Capitol theater!..Massive groove!
Eric's got the music covered but that black female singer has got the voice that just explodes--love those black female singers who have that soul/gospel voice and hit those high notes. They just give me chills and add so much to a song.
You need to check out "Layla" and songs he did while a member of the bsnd, Cream.. He has had a rich history and career. He's been performing since the 60s and is considered one of the best rock/blues guitarists ever.
Lay Down Sally, Old Love, Believe In Life, Layla, Crossroads - please react to any of these, Eric Clapton is wonderful musician who really went through a lot in his life and no doubt he would appreciate some of your time and attention. I've been binging your videos recently, more Harry Mack please!!!
Clapton is a true icon of Rock, Blues and has his own style. He is known as "Slow Hand" for his guitar playing. Back in the day, the Beatles - well John Lennon said something like my gosh we're bigger than Jesus as to their popularity. And Clapton fans responded by saying Clapton is God! But in fact they cross collaborated. Here is Clapton playing lead and singing in a tribute to George Harrison (one of the Beatles who we lost in early 2,000's): ua-cam.com/video/CrTMc2i6Lzc/v-deo.html (While My Guitar Gently Weeps (Taken from Concert For George)) It's a song George wrote and had Eric Clapton play a guitar part. Notice this concert has 2 Beatles (Paul and Ringo), along with a whole host of other stars playing. And incredibly George Harrison's son Dhani plays acoustic guitar front and center (the guy with the heart shaped sound hole in his guitar) and is the spitting image of George. And here is a taste of Clapton and the Blues: ua-cam.com/video/sJK78Y3zoQk/v-deo.html (B.B. King ft. Eric Clapton | Riding With The King ( official video and lyrics)) Clapton had an annual blues/guitar festival called "crossroads" for many years with all sorts of musical stars as guests. ua-cam.com/video/DqeT7QCmhjY/v-deo.html ("Crossroads" - Eric Clapton, Sheryl Crow, John Mayer, Doyle Bramhall II, Robert Rundolph (Live 2008))
Clapton can play it all, rock, blues he even covered a Marley song. The song I would suggest you have to listen to it twice. It's about a woman who was the love of his life (at the time) she was married to George Harrison and he called her Layla. In his single version it's a ballad and you might think the lyrics sweet. In the version by Derek and the Dominoes (of which he was a member) Duane Alleman is playing the guitar, it's up tempo and you actually can feel the emotion he had for that woman.
Good for you reacting to Eric again. Was a great dance song. Believe it or not, this was a song against cocaine. Absolutely great guitar player. He's played with all of the great blues players. And was a great friend of the late great BB King ❤
Oh yeah. You got a quick thumbs-up on this one!!! I don't remember hearing this on the radio but it sure played a lot in the car and in the house. Once again I enjoyed your reactions.
Hey Brit, quick history, in the 60's Eric was the premier guitarist in England, his fans called him "Slo' hand" and there were signs "Clapton is god". Chas Chandler, bassist for the Animals found a young guitarist named Jimi Hendrix, became his manager on the one exception that Chas can get him to sit in with Eric. Jimi came to England, Chas and Jimi found Eric playing and Chas asked if Jimi could sit in, Eric agreed. Jimi plugged in and blew the roof off, Eric left the stage, Chas went backstage to find out what was wrong. After asking Eric said, "you didn't tell me how good he was", after that Jimi was the toast of the town, with all the greats coming to pay homage, Page, Beck, Townsend, the Beatles, etc... The rest is history!!! Check out: Jimi Hendrix "Johnny B. Goode" Live from Hendrix in the West, Jimi Hendrix "Hey Joe" Monterey Pop Live, Jimi Hendrix "Like a rolling stone" Monterey Pop live, "Star Spangled Banner" from Woodstock and his Masterpiece "Machine Gun". After that any studio versions of, "Red House", "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)" and many others. Then pass it on to other young people, the man was truly a Legend!!!
Eric Clapton has been all over the place in his life. He was a serious heroine and alcoholic who didn’t leave his house for three years. He got off the heroin - and then starting drinking heavily. Somewhere in there he added the coke. In 1986, he became clean and sober. His motivation, the birth of his son. Then almost 5 years later, his son, Connor accidentally ran out a floor to ceiling window that was left open after cleaning (his was playing hide and seek). He fell 20+ floors, I believe. Somehow, he remained 4:09 clean and sober. He wrote the song about his son, Conner - the one you mentioned earlier. Eric Clapton has built a rehab facility in Antiga and raised money through concerts and auctioning off many of his guitars to donate to those less fortunate who can’t afford rehab. If you listen to the lyrics clearly he says “Dirty Cocaine”. There is also a lyric about “you can’t get it back.” Reverencing, the time you spend high will never come back. You’ll never know what you could have accomplished or what great joy you could have experienced during this time…”but you can’t get it back.” He sings it now as an anti-drug anthem.
New subscriber here and really love your reactions. Eric Clapton is many years sober now. Back in the 70's and early 80's cocaine was everywhere around Los Angeles and many big cities. So, historically speaking this song was kind of an anthem to those times when so many people had access to it. For better or worse. A great song.
i'm always happy if i see people of my generation like music like rock, blues etc. my favorite songs by ec also known as slowhand are crossroads and groing the blues
Eric was a naughty boy. Started out with one of the earliest and most famous rock bands in history, Cream. He was also in the Yardbirds, Derek and the Dominos, Blind Faith as well as his solo work. He was called 'God' of the guitar. His blues creds are off the charts and has played with all the blues greats. He kidded his good friend Phil Collins as to why he never wrote a song for him to play in so Phil wrote 'I Wish It Would Rain Down on Me', his only blues number (though 'Roof Is Leaking' is pretty bluesy). Their video is crazy, funny fun. It would be a great one to review.
Eric is a once in a generation musician. In spite of his struggles through the years with substance abuse and personal tragedy he remains so powerful in his performances. If you enjoyed the small sample you have listened to then dive in all the way back to the 60's when he was a young talent in his twenties and just enjoy the ride through the years. And he always surrounds himself with other talented players like Billy Preston and Nathan East. It's always entertaining to watch his videos
Eric Clapton is the God of British Blues: you should check out his work with Cream, where you’ll be able to hear the bluesy vocals of Jack Bruce as well!
Back in the 60s there were signs all over London proclaiming Clapton is God. Youve got to listen to some Cream Sunshine of your Love would be a good start One of the greatest guitarists of all time
Clapton is a blues player at heart but he can rock too! He's a huge Robert Johnson fan, and has covered many of his songs, notably Crossroads. He released a whole album called Me and Mr. Johnson that is all Robert Johnson covers. BTW, Crossroads (the concert and the institution) was founded by Clapton to help folks get sober and stay sober. He had his problems with drugs over the years. Check out Hoochie Coochie Man live at Madison Square Garden! It's a stop time blues that just sends me! For some other Clapton check out Sunshine of Your Love, Layla (the fast and later slow versions), and his cover of Stormy Monday, Oh my!
Hi Britt, Eric is the greatest guitarist ever! When played back in the day at the clubs everyone was dancing! Check out Wonderful Tonight, Layla and As my Guitar Gently Weeps.
"She don't lie, she don't lie, she don't lie, Cocain" This was at one of Eric Clapton's six different three day Crossroads Guitar Festivals 2004-2019, held in support of Eric's drug and rehab facility on the island of Antigua.
Clapton's prime, in my opinion, was with Cream. Clapton on guitar and some vocals, Jack Bruce on bass and most vocals, Ginger Baker on drums. Check out 'Sunshine of Your Love', 'White Room', and 'Crossroads (live version)'.
She really don’t lie…😂 Those we’re different times…and they were good. Mom of 4 that hasn’t done a thing since 1993, I was able to be such a great Mom because I got all my crazy out in the 80’s
Hands down, Eric Clapton is one of the premiere guitarists of all time. They don't call him Slow Hand for nothing. You would love his original version of Layla when he was with Derrick and the Dominoes. It would be interesting for you to compare the original Layla with the acoustic version from MTV Unplugged. Completely different songs, with the same words. Clapton was also the lead guitar on The Beatles' While My Guitar Gently Weeps. Fun fact, in the past, don't know about now, you could always tell how Clapton felt about his performance. When he set his guitar down, if the strings were facing you, he thought he did well. If they were away from you, he was apologizing.
In 1965 a graffiti sign in London, that spurred into tagging at shows stating "Clapton Is God" were common after his stint with John Mayall's Bluesbreakers after he left the Yardbirds. Some argue he was best in the band Cream, or with Derek and the Dominoes, or with Delaney and Bonnie. (all groups he was in from 1965-1972) Layla is his signature tune (electric from the 70s or the "Unplugged " show in 1993). Eric is saddled right next to Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Eddie Van Halen, Jimmy Page, and Jeff Beck as most influential players for guitarists. His music, like most of his peers at the time was intentionally eclectic. Going from blues, to rock and jazz to country. Clapton does it all. LAYLA, WONDERFUL TONIGHT, BELL BOTTOM BLUES, WHITE ROOM, WALKING BLUES, and OLD LOVE are some of his highlights.
This was Eric favorite drug of choice. He had a different name and band that's to it. Darick and the domino's I like his concert series called crossroads

Cale and Eric Clapton live with J.J.' s song "anywhere the wind blows". Wish you a good time ahead!
His genre is “ROCK AND ROLL LEGEND”.
This is actually an anti drug song. Played it when I was in a band a long time ago.
Clapton has said that. I don’t buy it.
@@scottedwards33 I'm sure he did his fair share .
Everything he said in the song are the false promises cocaine makes.
Not at the time the song was released. He was heavily addicted to Cocaine and Heroin back then. The song is actually written by J.J. Cale.
No,it wasn't originally BUT since he got clean he changed it to an anti drug song,by inserting the words ' that dirty cocaine '
Eric had another heart warming song too if I saw you in heaven of his pasting of his son love the vibe you show reacting too this song your so awesome here Britt.❤️👍
Actually the song is called Tears In Heaven
He’s one of the best guitarists in history. He’s a blues guitarist, at his heart.
Tears in Heaven was originally done on an MTV unplugged show.
He gets into the 70s music for sure, i love his songs he did with BB King, check out ROCK ME BABY its a guitar jam session thats just awsome!
Makes me want to be young and in the club again. My favorite song to dance to
Eric Clapton is called "slow hand" because of how he plays the guitar. He can seem to be going slow but he has some of the most incredible guitar playing that you hear ever heard.
He's called "slow hand," because it takes him so long to tune his guitar.
He takes his time.
One of the greatest guitarist of all time yes the song about his son was great tears in heaven I think it is
My band played this in the clubs back in the 80's. It filled the dance floor every night!
One of the greatest blues guitarist that ever lived.
A song from the 70's ! Was the type of music we had !
Vietnam , drugs and rock and roll !
I really enjoy your reactions. Eric Clapton is my favorite artist of all time. And he's the only person inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 4 times. And easily one of the two or three best guitarists of all time. You might want to react to Wonderful Tonight.
You are so fun to listen and watch with. Keep up the good work.
King of the slow hand blues!
She's Gone.
I finally saw him last year and he put on a great show. His band is loaded with talented musicians also.
One of my favorite performers. I could listen to him ALL DAY
Yes me and my band coverd this song for the first time in 1978 a friend of ours came back from the States with a tape of J.J. Cale, the composer of this song, we got crazy and we coverd it and it still is in our repertoire you should hear the original. Stay safe
I remember seeing, Eric Clapton, on stage with a couple of blues bands.
He sounded good, along with the artists/bands, he performed with.
went to a Clapton concert a few years ago, the man delivers pure and simple,
Saw him in the late 80’s with Robert Cray. UN-FREAKING-BELIEVABLE.
EC is considered one of the greatest guitarists of all time, and his backup singers are incredible
62 and remembering this epic jam! Things were moving and shaking!❤
Oh girl, you would have fit well in my world...when I was fourty years younger!!! Party hardy but remain true to our one great God!!!
If you wanna hear some keys (and guitar with extreme swagger, of course) check out Stevie Ray Vaughan doing a live version of "Couldn't Stand The Weather", 1985, Capitol theater!..Massive groove!
This song was a party anthem at the end of the seventies and early eighties.
Eric's got the music covered but that black female singer has got the voice that just explodes--love those black female singers who have that soul/gospel voice and hit those high notes. They just give me chills and add so much to a song.
Unbelievable guitarist! Love him
You need to check out "Layla" and songs he did while a member of the bsnd, Cream.. He has had a rich history and career. He's been performing since the 60s and is considered one of the best rock/blues guitarists ever.
For everyone born after the year 2000, these are musicians, and this is a rock and roll concert.
I love CLAPTON! He had his fight with cocaine and won. He is one of the best guitarist that has ever graced the earth. He is LEGEND.
Here is Clapton playing lead and singing in a tribute to George Harrison (one of the Beatles who we lost in early 2,000's):
ua-cam.com/video/CrTMc2i6Lzc/v-deo.html (While My Guitar Gently Weeps (Taken from Concert For George))
It's a song George wrote and had Eric Clapton play a guitar part. Notice this concert has 2 Beatles (Paul and Ringo), along with a whole host of other stars playing. And incredibly George Harrison's son Dhani plays acoustic guitar front and center (the guy with the heart shaped sound hole in his guitar) and is the spitting image of George.
And here is a taste of Clapton and the Blues:
ua-cam.com/video/sJK78Y3zoQk/v-deo.html (B.B. King ft. Eric Clapton | Riding With The King ( official video and lyrics))
Clapton had an annual blues/guitar festival called "crossroads" for many years with all sorts of musical stars as guests.
ua-cam.com/video/DqeT7QCmhjY/v-deo.html ("Crossroads" - Eric Clapton, Sheryl Crow, John Mayer, Doyle Bramhall II, Robert Rundolph (Live 2008))
I think it is the most beautiful love song EVER! ❤
Good for you reacting to Eric again. Was a great dance song. Believe it or not, this was a song against cocaine. Absolutely great guitar player. He's played with all of the great blues players. And was a great friend of the late great BB King ❤
I absolutely love your energy. Fantastic reaction!! Thank you and warmest wishes from the UK.
So much lore with Eric. Going all the way back. As for the topic du jour, he certainly would know.
I've heard this song my entire life and never seen it like you, Hilarious reaction!
When I use to go to the bars dancing. When they played this every time he sang coccinellids we all yelled it.😅
Oh yeah. You got a quick thumbs-up on this one!!! I don't remember hearing this on the radio but it sure played a lot in the car and in the house. Once again I enjoyed your reactions.
He used to be in the group Cream and one of their well known songs is “sunshine of your love”
One of the greatest guitarists in the world
Eric Clapton has been all over the place in his life.
And stole one of his closest friend’s wife.
One of the best just jammin tune! Love and peace to ya Britt This is one song I like the studio version better. I don’t say that very often
Clapton is a survivor! A legend! The song you were talking about is TEARS IN HEAVEN, about his son who died....✌️
Yep, just like that!
Eric is one of the GOATs
Back in the 60s there were signs all over London proclaiming Clapton is God. Youve got to listen to some Cream Sunshine of your Love would be a good start One of the greatest guitarists of all time
There's no way that you can hear this and not dance. Used to love when bands played this at the clubs!! Great reaction!
One of the greatest blues guitarist ever,2 songs
Not a fair example of his work
Clapton is a blues player at heart but he can rock too!
He has a huge catalogue, "Lay down Sally", "Midnite rider" etc.
Hi Britt, Eric is the greatest guitarist ever! When played back in the day at the clubs everyone was dancing! Check out Wonderful Tonight, Layla and As my Guitar Gently Weeps.
Clapton is rock and soul she don’t lie
I realized I love cocain when I looked up how it was made and didn't give af😂.
Layla Live! of Wonderful tonight live are fantastic
"She don't lie, she don't lie, she don't lie, Cocain"
This was at one of
Eric Clapton's six different three day Crossroads Guitar Festivals 2004-2019,
held in support of Eric's drug and rehab facility on the island of Antigua.
The Only 3 time inductee into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame
Ladies And Gentlemen Mr Eric Clapton ...
You are the coolest and most beautiful lady reacting today. Love it xx
This was Eric favorite drug of choice. He had a different name and band that's to it. Darick and the domino's I like his concert series called crossroads
Old Slow Hand!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Eric had his own substance abuse struggles. "Rock star" - surprise! He went on to establish a rehab center.
