The United States Immigration Station, located at 333 Mount Elliott Street in Detroit, Michigan, is a significant government building. It housed the Detroit Field Office of Immigration and Customs Enforcement until recently. The building is now up for auction. This historic site was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2013.
Spanning a whopping 3.18 acres, this site is a hidden gem in Detroit's former warehouse and shipping district, just east of downtown.
Built in 1933 as a United States Immigration Station, this three-story Colonial Revival style building is a true architectural beauty. Picture this: a symmetrical facade, limestone decorative elements, a grand entablature with a projecting cornice, elegant quoins, a main entry flanked by columns, and a stunning cupola. It's like stepping back in time!
In 1962, a sleek two-story glass and aluminum annex was added, bringing the total space to an impressive 42,655 square feet. The property also has a boiler house, a garage, and a paved parking lot.
