Yes, they use wood stoves and their homes are never warm, warm. They get to buy their homes that are cool/cold.
And I would like to point out not all Amish use these styles anymore some Amish use new age wood stoves that don’t take electricity other than a 12 V battery
I guess im amish. Everything i own is old. I heat with wood . I have a heat pump but i prefer wood.i live like amish but im not.😅😅😅
A good amount of them have coal stoves they heat with and in there stores they have propane ventless heaters.

If you find cutting wood back braking then your doing it wrong. All I have ever heated with is wood going on more then 50 years now. I always have a year ahead on wood that way you can take your time cutting wood for the next year. As I have become a little older I cut one tree down per day cut it up and put it in a heap, somedays I will cut two trees but usually just one, I find working like that much more enjoyable rather then going hole hog at it, plus its easyer on the back. Plus another way to look at it every time your cutting wood your saving money, for me that means bout 6,7 hundred dollars a month in the winter. I like when I come in from outside in the winter to actually feel warm, not half assed warm.

Since I installed solar and heat pump I do not cut wood anymore.
There is nothing romantic about the back-breaking work involved!
