@@kimberlythompson719 Funny, but I felt that way as well. I could picture myself hanging out in the Butler's Pantry. Then I saw the "saloon" in the basement, and fell in love with that. But what's not to love about the entire house??

my thoughts exactly. thank you Shelley! its great the people before her there couldn't afford to mess up its originality, and fabulous she had good taste, the $$, and the inspiration to get it safely into the next century.
I am a retired architect. I am, have been and always will be an admirer of Frank Lloyd Wright's work. I have visited many of his remaining houses and have toured quite a few. Aside from that, I love the detail and flourishes that these "styled" houses were designed with. The craftsmanship is almost unbelievable when you consider that much of the woodwork and masonry and other trades as well, was done with handtools by experienced and talented craftsmen without the assistance of power tools. I love to see the excessive detail that the architects and builders were able to create and wonder how voluminous the architect's plans must have been to guide the builders to produce such works of art as these houses exhibit. I am a recent subscriber to your channel and have viewed a few of your videos. I find them so very interesting and they are so well done. The only negative comment that I would have is that they too short to appreciate some of the magnificent details that exist is every house. These houses are "art" that must be preserved and kept in perpetuity. They are every bit as valuable if not more so as any other artwork performed by famous artist elsewhere in the world. I realize that much more time and expense must have been spent photographing, editing and narrating the videos and that much of the photography never makes it to the final product. Some especially intricate detail deserve a closer reveal and a slower "pan" with the camera. But I am so grateful that you possess the desire to make these videos that I am apologetic for even mentioning my minor dissatisfactions. Please continue to do what you do so very well in recording these masterpieces of architectural beauty and history. I am a thankful subscriber.
My grandfather was a carpenter and was fabulous at it and built everything you can imagine with wood when I was a child and I was his gopher and / helper. The woodwork in this house is amazing. And I am in love with that bubble jukebox you don't see them anymore. I would love to pick up the cat and dance my heart away to that bubble jukebox. Thank you so much for sticking to the original and for loving that house
I drive past the house all the time. I'm inspired to see Shelly out in the yard cutting grass, mulching around the trees, or whatever. Real determination to keep the place pristine. Thank you for what you do. I hope to take the tour someday.
I'm having a hard time deciding which room could be my favorite as I found something facinating about every one. Can I then simply say the whole house? Loved this! Seems St. Louis has really respected it's past history by not demolishing many of it's old houses. Kudos for every person who has taken the time & money to restoring these "diamonds in the rough". You can see how they have put in the hard work with their hearts and souls.
it is so nice to see a home from that time period so thoughtfully restored. To many times you see these old homes too modernized. Sometimes tearing out some or all of the old architecture. To me you buy a historic house because you appreciate those things.
The entire house is amazing and a big thank you to the current owner for allowing us into her master piece. The restoration is priceless and the young man presenting the home was informative without being flowery with his words. Well done all.
Great job for giving the house the videography attention it deserves! I love the way you tour, it's easy to follow since you explain the floorplan beautifully as well as making sure the details and history are captured👍🏼 Not to mention how nice the editing is! This is my first time seeing a well presented video about architecture. Some people just rush through things. Keep it up!
This is my favorite episode that I’ve seen so far. Between the mansion, the new owner, the photos and renovations, your tour and all the details of every room addressed - well done on all counts. I’ve been a sub of yours since you first started your channel with 2nd Empire/Kaleb and Kim (that’s how I found your channel). I can see how you’re more comfortable being in front of the camera, asking great questions of the owner and explaining certain details, showing the floor plans for each level, and what a well polished video product you give us, your audience. Amazing how many original features are still there, and weren’t lost over time. I am thrilled for you at your subbie count - your channel has grown beautifully. Thank you to everyone involved on this one - superior job!! I will definitely be watching this one again!
This has to be one of the best house tour videos I've ever seen, and I've viewed quite a few. That the house is incredible goes without saying, but all the tiny details in not only decor and ornamentation, but the fantastic collection of vintage pieces on display is amazing! I especially loved seeing the miniature Magic Chef salesman's sample stove as you passed through one of the rooms, (the butler's pantry I believe). GREAT video!
Thanks, both of you, for this wonderful tour. I love that Shelley's reason for restoring the mansion was LOVE. Her affection for the place is great to see.
In the 1980's, I used to pass this house and I remember a lone light bulb, no shade, hanging in the bedroom on the right. Soon after, it was bought and restored and people here in south St. Louis are thrilled. It's a treasure for sure.
I love the whole house!! Despite its size, all the beautiful warm wood makes it seem cozy and intimate. Although all the rooms are amazing, my favourites are the yellow sitting room with the little blue fireplace, the upstairs bathroom, and the breakfast room. My favourite thing in the entire house is the red tiled fireplace in the breakfast room.
I remember seeing an article on this house in the magazine "Old House Journal", and I fell in love with the light fixtures and the kitchen. The interior of this house reminds me somewhat of Rosemount House Museum in Pueblo, CO, originally owned by the Thatcher family. Love that the owner restored old details back to what they originally looked like, yet the house is very much functional for modern living at the same time too. I think you can save details in an old house and make it compatible with modern times. What a great owner of the home!!
I totally enjoyed this video! My husband and I lived in Centralia, IL for a bit and I’m sad that we missed so very many gorgeous historical buildings while close-by!!! Appreciative!!!🥰
The Shop is my favorite room. I loved learning about the little details like the replaced fireplace tile and original light fixtures. The owner is wonderful to love this home and bring it back to life.
It's gorgeous! I love the homes built in the late 1890's-1910. New materials and tools allowed homes to become more elaborate, and boy did they go crazy on the color and details. Nothing today compares. The lamps that have the figures holding garlands are so cool ❤
My favorite room by far is the kitchen 😍 with the breakfast room and butlers pantry and the conservatory room. Oh and how can I not mention the telephone booth. Thank you Shelly for allowing us a tour of your home. Anyone can see Shelly put her heart and gave her love to this house.
Thank you Shelley for sharing your amazingly beautiful home with us. The house is huge, yet warm and inviting. I appreciated your down to earth and friendly personality.
Stunning home! So nice to see someone who is willing to preserve such an amazing piece of architectural history vs just building new. The wood work & design of the interior of these period style homes is always amazing! 👌
I’m a chef so my favorite room would have have to be the kitchen... I loved that Tin Ceiling! It’s actually the most ornate tin ceiling I’ve ever seen, it’s absolutely gorgeous! The glazed bricks, the appliances just everything in oh my goodness, the Butler’s Pantry! The outside of the house was absolutely stunning too! I stopped the video about halfway and visited the website for this beautiful mansion. There were hundreds of photos, l spent about an hour and then came back to the video. Another wonderful and interesting video! Thank you! 😊 ♥️👍🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I have to admit, I am so envious of the guy who does this channel, and does these tours. What an AMAZING job/career/hobby. Wow!!! He probably has all kinds of college degrees in architecture, but wow, I would love to be able to do this. I find these old mansions endlessly fascinating. The architecture, the history, the ostentatious display of wealth. What's not to love? There's probably some major down sides to this, but I have no idea what they are. I can't even imagine doing this every day of the week. It'd be great!!!
In all honesty, it's hard to pick just one room. That entire house is amazingly well restored and each looked so gorgeous. It was kind and generous of the owner to allow us this private, guided tour. She did a great job in getting it restored to its former glory.
First, Ken what a great tour of an absolutely beautiful home. But then a huge thank you to Shelley for allowing us to see this historic piece of true art.
This was an excellent very thorough tour. Thank you for moving slowly to point out the wonderful architectural features in every room. I so appreciate the owner for opening up her house for all to see. It is simply amazing and so much love and attention to the details of the past are reflected in all the house. Funny that I should feel a touch of nostalgia seeing those old pin ball machines. My brother and I would go into Hurkey's Bar on Delmar across the alley to buy our nickel popsicles; it brought back the smell of beer as we entered with pin ball machines lining the back wall. I long for those simple days of yesterday. Again thank you both for This brief, although lovely reminder of the past.
Beautiful example of magnificent Gilded Age elegance. Unfortunately too many like this are gone 😪 , victims of neglect, remodeling, or worst of all greed, especially in large cities where historic mansions have been replaced with high rises or commercial buildings. I noticed that someone mentioned the quality of Magic Chef ranges. They were always a favorite in my family. In the late 1950s, Mom bought a 40 inch with double storage compartments and a chrome lined oven! Oh how I would love to have THAT one today! Many thanks to the gracious owner and to you for a great experience.
Shelly, want to thank you for the tour of the Magic Chef Manson. Thanks to the family who took great care for generations so others to enjoy. Also a thanks to the last owners with continued with love and care in making sure the house 🏠 guarded all its historical features with emense respect. It's so beautiful and in mint condition, can imagine how intense the servants must of worked in maintaining the mansions glamor and splendor. I remember when I began to cook with my mother on her new state of the art new Magic Chef stove it was beautiful with a light and a clock on the hood lighted oven with a window door. Mom and myself took extra care in its cleaning and maintenance and believe by now it would still be working in top condition. Pray that this Magic Chef mansion will never face the rocking ball. 🙏
I think this is one of the most wonderful homes and I bet Shelley was a treasure to me. Your knowledge and wealth and experience of these homes is phenomenal keep up the good work and blessings.🥰😇
Thank You for sharing. I enjoyed and appreciated all of the talents of the artists displayed, from the carvings, to the stonemakers, I just loved every minute of this video. Details definitely MATTER! Special Thanks to the lovely Woman who allowed us to have a look, and Thank Our God she could see a little love makes such a difference! My favorite Room was The Room of the 5 Senses! Thank You for airing this home.
When I married back in the 70’s, we lived in an apartment for a year that had a Magic Chef stove. It was the best oven I ever used. It kept a true temperature all the time. This home is absolutely beautiful.
Wow, wow, wow!!! She certainly has "loved" up this BEAUTIFUL house! I loved the exterior shots and the drone coverage as a prelude. It's wonderful to be able to see the whole structure that way, it is just a gorgeous home. I'm so glad that someone who had the financial resources and loved the architecture brought this beauty back to its intended glory. While I loved every bit of this house, I'm picking the basement game room with the bowling alley and pinball machines as my favorite (takes me back to my youth when we used to go to Santa Monica Pier and play them in the arcade). Thanks for another great tour!
The house is elegant, but the owner, Shelley, has beautifully furnished the interior! Fabulous and comfortable. I knew the minute I saw the kitchen that she actually used it. Such a lovely, hardworking lady. Her toned arms aren't from a gym.
My favorite room has to be the bowling alley just because. This house is amazing! It's not the usual stuffy antique filled one but one that has so much personality. The owner also has a great sense of humor.
I know this may sound silly, but everytime you say "let's just takea moment" my anxiety calms down a bit. Definitely going to be using that tool in real life!
Great to meet Shelley the owner of the house and hear her story about restoring the house! She is a very interesting lady bless her for restoring the house it is beautiful!
Absolutely a work of immense craftsmanship! Thank you for allowing us to enjoy this masterpiece! When I think of all the beautiful homes that have succumbed to time and modernization, it’s such a pleasure to know that so many of our countries historically significant homes are still in existence.
Honor to Shelly for preserving history and understanding, these place just need love. Everytime I see one go down to decay and neglect its like a death of creation and its tragic and seems to be haunted, but this place is alive and full of life
The restoration of this home is incredible. If I had the know how and financial ability to be able to do something like this I absolutely would. What a beautiful home.
I love these old restorations, but I too wonder if it pays off financially to restore these mansions. As a middle class homeowner I want to be able to get my money back if I sell. Luckily house prices are sky high where I live (I got in before the big run up in prices) so anything I do to my house pays me back in equity. But not all homeowners are in such a fortunate position.
I absolutely love this channel! I'm so interested in this type of architecture and it's not often that you get to see tours like this. If you're looking for additional homes there's two in Abilene Kansas there's the Seeley mansion and the LeBold mansion and both are complete throwbacks to the late 1800s with all original fixtures and appliances including Thomas Edison appliances but those would be interesting homes to tour they're both quite large as well 10 to 12,000 square feet.
THIS is hands down the most beautiful house I've ever seen-- ever. I love every single thing about it. Favorite room? Very hard to pick but that basement was something even though it's made out of several rooms. I think bar was pretty cool and that bowling alley... A strange dentist office with the handcuff on the dentist chair 😆 and the pinball machine game room. Definitely tho...all of the basement. That might just be the kid in me but that really strikes me as the most unique.
What a work of art! It is like you step back in time. My favorite room is the receiving room. It was beautiful & light. I also liked the kitchen..liked that all the pots & pans& utensils were silver in color & not copper. The artwork, i could tell was beautiful, but you whizzed by it too fast. I wanted to read the plaque in the breakfast room but couldn’t. What a well loved home and it shows. Shelly, you are a jewel too. I am going to watch this again to see if i can see more of the artwork. Thank you! What a blessing this was.
Thanks for this wonderful tour. Your knowledge and enthusiasm bring the past back to life. Magic Chef was a premium brand in the first half of the 20th century. There was prestige associated with owning Magic Chef appliances. My mother was from St. Louis. When I was a kid (1960s) she had a Magic Chef stove and several other appliances. She had whimsical Magic Chef salt and pepper shakers on the stovetop that I wish I had kept! My father replaced the stove with an avocado green unit around 1973 (to match the refrigerator). When my mother died my father sold the house. I threw out so much stuff from the 50s and 60s that was just junk back then (1995). The appliances from the 1950s (stored in the basement) all worked but I put them out on the curb, and the junkman didn't even bother with them. I bet architectural preservationists would like to have some of it today. I still have some pots and pans from my mother that were made from the 1930s to around 1960. I still use them every day. They were made to last many lifetimes. It's a sharp contrast to the disposable junk that's available today.
What a gorgeous house The owner did a fantastic job of restoring this place I can't even imagine what it all cost. What a lucky woman to be able to preserve it!
This House is wonderful! The bay windows are beautiful, the bowling alley, wow! Shirley has done a fantastic job with the house! The tour was great and photography excellent, thanks so much.
What a beautifully restored piece of architectural history. A very interesting story. Thanks to the owner for sharing and your professional tour. Howard Sweatte, Architect.

What love you must have for a house to lovingly restore it. Thank you so much for showing it!
My favorite room has to be the bowling alley just because.
This house is amazing! It's not the usual stuffy antique filled one but one that has so much personality. The owner also has a great sense of humor.
Such a beautiful home! So happy to see it lovingly restored. Wonderful!
I know this may sound silly, but everytime you say "let's just takea moment" my anxiety calms down a bit. Definitely going to be using that tool in real life!
The Parlor with the Grand Piano, fireplace with mosaic work, and murals from Franz von Stuck is my favorite.
This house is massive!!
Iliked everything. Especially the details of the craftsmanship. So incredibly artistic. Astonishing the amount of hand made work.😄
"Which room was your favorite?" Yes. I couldn't possibly pick one. What a magnificent estate. And your voice is so soothing.
I love the way they kept the style and furnishings of the gilded age. This is my favorite mansion!!!
Love all the lamps, sconces, and lighting in this house.
This is my favorite episode by far! Ive watched it several times.
Honor to Shelly for preserving history and understanding, these place just need love. Everytime I see one go down to decay and neglect its like a death of creation and its tragic and seems to be haunted, but this place is alive and full of life
Thanks!
Thank you so much, cheers!
I'm so glad you are enjoying this channel. Also, thank you for the recommendations, I will look into them. Cheers!
The Parlor room was my favorite room. Awesome video!!! Thank you for paying close attention to the details. Love love love
How fun was this ? Really enjoyed this breath taking tour !
What a jewel! So much detail to take in.
What a lovely presentation. This beautiful home has owners who are truly practicing excellent stewardship of history. Thankyou so much !
Beautiful home. Many of the Gilded Age Mansions have a sad feeling. The Magic Chef house has a warm happy feel to it
Absolutely stunning! So nice to see it restored. To many are being torn down destroying a time in history that should never be forgotten.
Beautiful Home Mansion! Tyfs to you and the Present Owner tyty!😁👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾❤
Beautiful house, beautifully restored. Favourite room is the parlour, love the colours and the king Louis vibes 😊
Beautiful mansion!! The old stoves are so well preserved. Great tour, well presented, thanks so much!!💫
Just happy to see beauty preserved....no wrecking ball here!!! Fabulous!
Shelley, that’s for loving the house. Great tour. Thanks. ❤️
This house is SPECTACULAR!!❤️
This home and contents are really beautiful! My favorite room is the room to bring garden plants from outside to the inside.

I loved every room in this house, it is one of the most beautiful houses I have seen. Love the woodwork.
ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY AND BREATHTAKINGLY STUNNING BUT YEEEEEEOWWWWW……..that main entrance hall was DARK as night!!
I loved this entire house and tour; my favorite spaces were the sleeping porch, the bowling alley, and the saloon.
I live a few blocks from this magnificent house. Shelley, did an extraordinary job restoring it. A must see when you’re in St. Louis.
