  • Fixing a broken fitting or line connection on a fuel pump, evap canister, DEF pump, coolant reservoir, etc.... is often a hit or miss process. Many people will slab as much epoxy on as possible, cross the old fingers and hope it holds. But more times than none that never works! Especially if that fitting has a pressure within it. Such as in a fuel pump application.
You need to add reinforcement to the fitting then seal it up so it's airtight and doesn't leak.
In this video, I show you how to add rigid strength to the fitting that epoxy alone cant provide. I then show you 2 different ways of sealing it up so it holds for a lifetime!
First, we add rigid strength via a metal splice. Then we add an airtight seal using either epoxy or PLASTIC WELDING. Both have their place and I explain exactly what those situations are.
I provide epoxy recommendations along with plastic welding equipment recommendations and the best places to hone your techniques for both.

Yes!!!!! This fix is easy, fast, cheap, and best of all it really does work. Fixed a coolant return line on my 6.7L Ford after the plastic nipple broke......I estimate it would’ve cost $1,000 to get the truck towed and hose replaced.....hard to reach hose that disappeared under the engine from the top side. Some 2-part epoxy and a small copper tube from a hardware store and your steps in the video - and I’m back up and running with no leaks. Thanks!!!!! Best fix I have truly found on UA-cam. Thank you thank you thank you!!!!!

Great trick, used on an EVAP line. Used one size smaller diameter plastic line, coated with plastic cement and it forms a solid bond inside and out. Thanks man

Polyurethane is an organic material . UV rays from the sun as well as temperature changes WILL degrade it. It is NOT fuel resistant.
On the other hand Silicone is an inorganic material that should last outdoors (like under your car) far longer and not be affected by the sun, oil, gas, or
wild changes in temperature and humidity. Silicone repair tape with the metal tube reinforcement put inside the tube to hold the parts together
is the way to go here. That is the part that is most important. The Silicone tape is 1 inch wide and does conform to uneven surfaces.
It can handle temperature swings from -60 degrees to +500 degrees. Make sure the surfaces to be wrapped are clean first.

Yeah man - really helpful thank you!! BUT i couldn't help noticing that fuel line looked like it needed to be replaced also! haha I just pulled similar looking hoses out of my motorcycle's gas tank. They were so hard the broke apart like glass. AND I've got one stuck on a plastic nipple that I need to reuse. I'm not sure how to get that old, VERY HARD plastic hose off of the nipple without breaking it. I might dremel cut it off but not entirely sure if that's the best way to do it.

That was awesome! I have 3 broken fittings, I’m still trying to get the broken pieces from the quick connect, and I’m down $255 for a née fuel pump just because I didn’t think there was any practical way to repair the plastic nipples.....all this started over a check engine light with an upcoming emissions test that would have failed my 2001 S-10 blazer. What’s even worse is that I just replaced the fuel pump 3 months ago and check engine light turned out to be that the ground wire on pressure sensor pigtail pulled out of the connector. Incidentally I found out I could buy the new pigtail for $35 and I am now trying to figure out how to splice some longer hoses to fuel pump if anyone has a quick way to do this please send me the link! If only I had searched for this broken fuel pump connector video before I ordered and installed a new fuel pump I could have saved myself so much money and grief! Thanks for sharing your knowledge and skills!

The plastic welder is the way to go man but you have to have electricity nearby to use it. At Menard's I bought a 3 in 1 torch that has a torch, hot blow and solder tip.
You can pick one up there for $20. The thing runs on Butane and the smaller solder tip allows more control in melting the two broken pieces together.

I received one unit (Fuel Pump Assembly for 2001 Saturn SL2), it is OEM, but the central tube isn't pushed all the way to the end, like a gap ~2mm to where it is supposed to be. I thought maybe to use heat gun a bit, but was afraid to damage the tube (and the unit is ~$330). Also I saw in some films they use a heat gun in combination w/push gun, so maybe the heat won't be sufficient by itself. Maybe to use the hair dryer to try, it won't hurt anything. That type of connections you can see on many aftermarket FPs, if you want to replace just the motor, you would need to disconnect and put back a lot of those w/wavy surface. Can you tell what is the best way to fix it? Thank you for the great film.
