I personally think it's also "All this time I thought he was helping me because he was dumb- but now I see he genuinely BELIEVES in me". Combine this with the time Pinky gathered all the world leaders and actually CONVINCED them of Brain being a good ruler of the world just from talking to them for a few minutes- He got them (Before Brain came in and threw a tantrum) to see Brain the same way HE does.

Fun fact: Maurice Lamarche and Rob Paulsen were in tears when recording this scene. maybe this is the reason this special won the emmy.

That, and the Simpsons chose to have Treehouse of Horror VI (Because of the CG Homer short) as their emmy consideration over "Mother Simpson" (something the show staff have since regretted). It would have been interesting to see if this would have still won had Mother Simpson been the pick instead.

That's the real magic. The letter succeeded. Brain got his wish. He didn't fail. He won. And honestly, he did better with the world than most.
Yeah... but threwout most of this series Pinky usually foils up brain plan. It is usually tipped off how he will be doing it at the beginning of every episode. When It isn't Pinky's fault it is usually Brain's or some unforeseen force. Like the comet that destroyed the earth leaving them to go back to Chia Earth. But it is allways hinted to you at the beginning. The writer's knew not to insult there audience by making them believe everytime that Brain would succeed. So they put in a hint as if to say "if you didn't notice this then you are gullible".
He could have took over the world any but instead he decided to spend it with his best friend.

They didn't even need an Emmy, everyone was watching the show everyone was watching Fox and Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon. People just watch TV at the time and it was all good shit. This is exceptionally good writing by the way
Poor Brain. He usually treats Pinky very harshly, and either scolds or hits him. Here, Brain realizes what an incredible friend Pinky is, and always has been. Pinky is willing to do anything for Brain, even giving up his own wants or desires to help him...regardless if he knows it may be wrong. In this scene, Brain understands probably for the FIRST TIME how truly wrong he has been about Pinky, and how Pinky may be the only one in the entire world who wants Brain to succeed. That kind of friendship is rare, and worth re-evaluating yourself to keep your friend and never give them up. Pinky may be nowhere near as intelligent as Brain, but Pinky's level of heart is equal to Brain's level of intellect.
The scenes 1:16 & 1:52 where Brain is just teary and losing composure while looking at Pinky just resonate with his soul at realizing what an amazing friend Pinky really is.
Brain just can’t talk or think while looking at Pinky after reading how much Pinky really cares about him. All he can do is just look and cry at what a great friend he never knew he always had.

It amazes me that some people think this is the only time Brain actually shows he cares for Pinky. There has actually been quite a bundle of episodes in which Brain shows how much he cares about him.
+ValkyrieCain123 You have to admit it's a huge mood swing from the usual fare. You don't usually see a cartoon villain boss in tearful remorse over abusing one of his lackeys.
+ToonReel001 The mind is not as clear cut as we'd like to imagine. It might not make sense when looking at it from the outside, but it makes a lot of sense to the people experiencing the emotion.

@101770818909459010153 Yeah, I mean in my opinion the biggest thing that stands out from Brain compared to most other ''evil genius's'' you see in pretty much anything is that he is actually a caring person. He gets easily frustrated and moody yes, but Pinky has always been his no.1 priority.

Pinky's letter is surprisingly eloquent and well-worded
Pinky's smarter than Brain gives him credit for. IIRC, there was a PatB episode (of the spin-off) where the two were stranded in the jungle, and while Brain froze up in fear, Pinky figured out everything that would help them survive.
Of course it is, even though Pinky’s insane that letter came from his heart

This is proof that Pinky is the smart one, he showed Brain that there's more to life than taking over the world. There's so many things that life has to offer then thinking about your selfish desires. It's like trying to show your friend that the world is not so black and white and helps you make a decision and being influenced by a different perspective about life. Why is Pinky different from other goofy characters? Pinky uses his stupidity to mess up or prevent Brains plans to dominate the world, and showed him the good things about living life to the fullest. Little did Brain know, Simplicity and Happiness are Pinky's true qualities that made him the character he is.
Pinky was seflless when he thought of The Brain when he wrote his letter to Santa Claus (which was surprisingly very eloquently written). And The Brain was just as selfless when he finally accomplished his goal and had the world at the palm of his hands, but only used that advantage to tell everyone to have a Merry Christmas.
This is powerful shit right here, and all the more why I love this series. Merry Christmas to one and all.
Ironically, probably inspired some actual world peace by that action moreso than any of his attempts at domination ever could.
There's an interesting fan theory that states that Pinky is the genius. It is based on how the theme song is worded "pink and the brain....one is a genius the other's insane". "The brain" does the same thing over and over again thinking something different will happen, making him insane, while Pinky actually does take over the world at least once from what i've read.

The episode “A Pinky and the Brain Christmas” won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Animated Program, with Paulsen winning the award for Outstanding Performer in an Animated Program.
Incredible, how a simple cartoon scene can be deeper than most of the movies of today.
This is why some people prefer the 90's cartoons more than most of the modern ones today. It wasn't just because they made us feel nostalgic, it's the amount of writing and hard work being put into these that made us believe how special they truly are.

I really loved that The Brain is willing to sacrifice his ego and chance for World Domination when he read Pinky's letter,He did realize Pinky was a true friend and he wanted to tell Santa that The Brain is a hardworking loyal friend who know wants best for the world.

Brain got EXACTLY what he deserved for Christmas. Sweet Fanny Adams. He wanted the world, he got a globe on a key chain. That'll teach him to ignore Pinky. He had the world when the leaders gave the keys of their countries to Brain for his birthday, and then opened his big mouth and lost it. GOOD!
At the end of the day, Brain's mouth undoes what good Pinky's efforts might gain.

Pinky, meanwhile, is crying and actually making sure to do his part EXACTLY as Brain wanted- Even says "You're on" so Brain doesn't miss his chance. In Pinky's logic, the plan is going to fail BECAUSE he didn't manage to get his letter to Santa, and he's trying to scrape together any chance at a victory they can salvage by not goofing off, or anything.

The animation quality of this episode is so gorgeous and impressive for a 90’s cartoon witch was done by the overseas animation studio by THE HOLY TMS Entertainment. Contrary to belief, this is the one and ONLY time the Brain successfully took over the world...for about 5 seconds. A tearjerker, but still a GREAT episode, well worth its prime-time Emmy and Annie Award earnings.

So this is a super old video, but I just wanna say this. I'm 21. I didn't grow up with this show and I hadn't even heard of it till about a year ago. My friend gifted me a profile on his Hulu account so I could watch Animaniacs. I ended up watching season 1 of Pinky and the Brain in a day, and this has to be my favorite episode. I actually cried at a kid's show, which I normally don't do. I really, REALLY wish I grew up with this show, honestly for scenes like this. I have younger siblings and used to watch kid shows with them; NONE of them had the in depth character development like this one has. 100% sure my future children will watch this show, since I missed out on it during my own childhood.
Man, this is such a sweet moment... still one of the greatest Christmas specials out there if you ask me!

It was only when Brain truly realized that he had a true friend in Pinky and finally felt loved that he no longer cared about taking over the world. The love of a friend mattered more to him than what he had worked so hard to achieve. Feels are hit.
This was my first ever episode that I have seen from Pinky and the Brain. I was too young to even know the show existed. But damn. This episode really hit me.
