"If Fred Flintstone knew the giant order of ribs would tip over his car, why did he order them every week?"
That IS a good question.
Truly, we are the thinkers. As the brain says, we are truly alone
Remember - the song says ONE is a genius and the OTHER is insane... never says which one...
@@2Scribble Nah, it's just a rhyme.
It was an end title.
I’m truly alone...
"It's what the network wants, why bother to complain?"
GENIUS.
Actually, it was all Steven Spielberg's idea not the Network Execs
Rushy its like a big FUCK YOU but kid friendly
The Episode "The Raven" has a line that supports the "I do not want to do this" notion of the opening.
"Tho this day 's been rather gastly,
We had stood our ground steadfastly,
But the terrors that we faced
where soon began to multiply.
Pinky look our former dwelling,
just in time, my feet are swelling,
can it be? It's used for selling
stuff that noone wants to buy?
Oh dear acme labs from which we where forced to fly.
Stuff that noone wants to buy."
@@carlosalmonacid8958 I don’t think he’d make an episode that parodies a universe where they do add a third character to the comedy duo (the episode Pinky and the Brain and Larry) if he wanted a third character.
It was 100% what the network (specifically noted executive fuckup Jamie Kellner) wanted. Blame them.
I hope Pinky and the Brain refrences this show in the reboot like: "Thank god we're rid of that girl Elmyra"
and Larry
Pinky and the Brain didn't get rid of elmyra did you see that ending?if you didn't you need to watch "The mask of Braino" all over again.
Peatb is actually not canon in the animaniacs lore so I think they probably won’t mention this show or elmyra
Yes me too, I hate Elyria Duff.
That's fine and all but Elmyra is a hottie
The writers of this are so badass IMO; the fact that they took multiple not-so-subtle shots at the network for forcing them to do it, but also made it as good as they possibly could out of pride for their work (or spite, or both) is just so great.
yeah, its easy to see when someone made something with love and care. its just that bit more real.
6:25 ten years later that boy became michel bay
lol
+gabriel tiger Does this mean Elmyra became Megan Fox?
ramlood that would be a interresting and weird twist!!!!!
That's funny
+gabriel tiger what a twist!
"They're just making it look like Tim Curry owns an evil carnival now for some reason."
....You mean he doesn't?
+Avatarofhendrix ever watch the "It" review?
+Avatarofhendrix
could that episode be a prequel to "IT"?
+Avatarofhendrix He's too busy being Palpatine right now, and also killing children with his evil clown powers.
+pepper Mill that would explain a lot of that?
gabriel tiger "o that?"
"Someone somewhere really loved this character."
According to Tom Ruegger, that someone was Steven Spielberg.
Maybe he just loved how well Cree Summer was able to portray her.
one of them is yours truly.
and I'm talking about you invaderpet.
@@michaelsshow2521 Growing up, I preferred Fifi La Fume.
what do you mean?
Pinky: "I think Elmira has seen Titanic a few to many times."
Brain: "Let's hope she never see's A Clockwork Orange."
That made me laugh out loud.
I had to look up what the movie "A Clockwork Orange" was about, and that is one messed up movie.
Cathrope1 shit we had the book in our high school library and I checked it out not quite sure what it was about just knowing there was a movie called a clockwork orange. It was entertaining but holy god was it weird. The book is even written in a weird kind of made up language.
I did too.
I know, that joke was just pure gold
Someone Explain? I don't know what a Clockwork Orange is?
"let's hope she never rents a clock work orange"
i swear to fucking god i can't believe they did that LOL
+Hyurno not many people know about the movie. back then or today. especially young people.
+Hyurno not many people know about the movie. back then or today. especially young people.
Literally my jaw dropped when i heard that
It was funny as hell, but let’s play a game of how many people looked up ‘a clockwork orange ‘ and lost their shit in the fact this was referenced in a kids show
I AM VERY GLAD YOU SAID IT-
When the writers are so good that even a bad idea can be decent
Exactly! It may not be their best work but it’s still enjoyable.
An episode/segment of Animaniacs/PATB is like pizza. When it’s good, it’s REALLY good.
And when it’s bad, it’s not THAT bad. Just decent enough to quell your appetite.
Those "Raven" rhymes alone make me want to give this a shot. *Damn.*
THIS ACTUALLY WON AN EMMY AND I WAS SHOCKED
It deserves it.
It won in the voice acting category for Rob Paulsen as Pinky. So it isn't completely surprising.
Cree summer as well.
WHATT?????
5:35 "It's a magic doorway, run and jump inside the light!" "I see it! I see it!" *WHAM!*
That made me laugh out loud
ya
same here
+Michael Mangi (theblackdog) Same. It got me to do the high pitched cackle that only comes out of me when I'm laugh incredibly hard.
+Michael Mangi (theblackdog) Cree just nailed that line. XD
+Michael Mangi (theblackdog) Same here.
Ahhh now I remember this one.. That portal on the wall scene brought it all back to me :)
+PhantomStrider I think it was the funniest joke that NC showed.
+PhantomStrider No one seems to mention that, but they actually repeat that joke in another episode of the series. I never knew if they did it on purpose or if they were tired by that point.
PhantomStrider can you please talk about this show.
Do you guys mind if they reviewed Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid? I asked them awhile ago.
I'm subbed
That "Clockwork Orange" line actually made me laugh out loud.
+AuroraKnux Ditto.
Same!
+AuroraKnux that shit made me go "Daaaamn" lol
I didn't get it TBH
Just be glad you didn't. XD
"let's hope she never rents A Clockwork Orange" had me almost spit take
That Clockwork orange line was pretty good
True
True!
+OprahsToast _ Made laugh out loud genuinely.
+OprahsToast _ as someone who loves that movie, I agree completely! ^_^
Yeah, I actually laughed at that.
"Lets hope she never rents A Clockwork Orange" *WOAHWOAHWOAHWOAHWOAAAAH*
Let's be honest, is it really hard to believe that Tim Curry owns an evil carnival?
It's harder to believe he doesn't
@@FrancisR420 He needs something to do now that he's retired from acting.
the greatest show unearthed intensifies
It doesn't surprise me.
Is it hard to believe that it would be very successful?
"I am truly alone" great line...I can relate all too well to that sentiment. xD
Me too
I have to give special kudos to any cartoon that dares to mention A Clockwork Orange.
S Michaelis I don't get it.
Ethan Edwards A Clockwork Orange was a Stanley Kubrick film that was literally documenting a sadist's way of life and the violent acts he did. The fact that a kid's show would have the balls to reference _that_ is amazing.
Yeah, this show never needed to exist. One more season of just the two mice would've been way better.
True
Very true.
I'm with you
Agreed. This show killed Pinkie and the Brain
+Super Saiyan Maze A cross over with zacko, wacko, dot and freakazoid would've been awesome.
,,Let's hope she never rents A Clockwork Orange."
Wow...
I don't get it
Xenaurora 17 it's a movie about a guy and his gang who rapes and murders multiple people.
Oh God!
Nostalgia Turtle OH GOD
Back when people rented more often than not.
That Clockwork Orange joke had me in tears, holy shit.

It could be worse. They could be teamed up with the mice from Secret of Nimh 2.
+AlphaBrother007 OMG!
That actually sounds amazing!
...As long as we're not talking about the ones from the second film.
+AlphaBrother007 1 or 2, because I would watch it if they teamed up with the mice from 1.
I want it too happen now
I'd see that.
Elmyra's design always seemed kind of unsettling to me. Like Elmer Fudd in drag or something.
+coreykun667 ...Errr thats the point...
Well, Elmyra _was_ Elmer's pupil.
There was a tiny toons episode where Fud was pretending to be madonna.
varego Gothi Well....I'll be seeing THAT in my nightmares....
Same
And Larry.
Billy West's most amusing role in Pinky & the Brain.
+Arttu Whiskars Except Larry was not as annoying as Elmyra.
christosvoskresye Uhhh, I'm Larry!
+ Knuckles
Arttu Whiskars Larry will explain it
I hate myself for laughing when she slammed into the wall
I don't. >:)
It's from Dilbert.
I just generally hate how they made a random girl as stupid and irritating as possible. If I showed this to any young girl she would hate it. Just do Pinky and the brain.
Theory: Elmyra represents some producer or producer's daughter at WB.
"I truly am alone"
I was drinking water and now I need a towel.
lol Dont click one a video about animaineax and drink water at the same time.
Even Brain in the DVD cover looks like he's thinking: "Just please, somebody end this already"
"Let's hope she never rents A Clockwork Orange"
I just died laughing.
+L. Catlett-Tetzlaff R.I.P this guy
I don't get the joke. Can someone explain it to me?
Vivek Chaudhary
ok
@@intergalactichumanempire9759 I haven't see Clockwork Orange but I think it is very violent and has lots of bloodshed and murder. Brain was saying he doesn't want that.
_"Let's hope she never rents 'A Clockwork Orange'."_
Holy crap, that was legitimately hilarious!
Everyone gets one bad film. Even Pinky and the Brain.
True
Except this was an entire season.
***** The law still applies,
Christian Neihart Even so, 1 bad film is easy to stomach. But 10+ episodes? :P
+Salvador Martinez Trust me, you can run away from a bad film. You run out the theatre screaming, grabbing people by the shirts and telling them not to see it and everything. Sure you get kicked out of the cinema but still.
You heard it here first, folks. Pinky, ELMYRA, and The Brain is better than Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice.
Fk Elmyra. It pisses me off that she made IGN's Top 90 Animated Characters of the 90's, but the Warner Siblings were nowhere to be seen.
+Final Phlash don;t let that piss you off. let that teach you how utterly worthless IGN's opinion is on anything/
is spongebob on the list
The Warner Siblings are nowhere to be seen on Discovery Family Channel. #DiscoveryFamilySucks
So... You're saying that Tim Curry DOESN'T run an evil carnival?
I just assumed that was what he does when he wasn't acting.
Or living in a castle in the middle of nowhere. 😏
Gracie J I GASPED SO FAST I ALMOST CHOKED
SockBadger 24601 Sorry lol
I lost it at the Clockwork Orange joke
+MetroidSigma the cross over joke at the end got me
it almost killed me since its true and it fits
Same
This is still a better crossover than Tom and Jerry and Willy Wonka.
0:59 while the Critic was speaking; hottie Elmyra Duff was singing _Furry things are nice; I love my lab mice. I take them to school. I make them eat rice. I spray them with perfume in my own bedroom!_
I love the fact that Elmyra and Penny were voiced by the same actress: Cree Summer!
"G-O-S-H...!"
Who's hotter: Elmyra Duff or Susie Carmichael? I think both are stunners.
"Let's hope she never rents A Clockwork Orange." Ahahaha
I'm so glad you brought this to my attention now that I'm old enough to get it.
That line was in a kid's show.
+KDog1265 it's not like a kid would understand. Tons of kids shows slipped in jokes like that to keep the parents from being bored out of their minds
I wouldn't put it pass Tim Curry owning a evil carnival.
+Colt Stovik We think alike I see.
ROFL "Let's hope she never rents A Clockwork Orange." Wow, I couldn't breathe I was laughing so damn hard.
“Now go away, you depress me.”
"Let's hope she never rents a Clockwork Orange."
Damnit, I laughed way too hard at that.
Me to brother
Same here
pinky : "I think Elmyra has seen Titanic one too many times"
Brain : "Let's hope she never rents A Clockwork Orange"
wow...I didn't expect to laugh at that, but I did, for like 5 minutes.
I'm dead serious.
I had to pause the videoIt's funny on so many levels, because
that was such a violent movie
and
because of the way Elymra is
and
because most kids aren't gonna get it.
The joke was put in there for the adults, it's the same reason Animaniacs is funny (although, watching animaniacs now on netflix, the show does feel dated, I mean, how many Batman and Batman Returns references do they need to have in there, I get it, Warner Bros. has the rights to Batman but jeez...)
FeMaiden I don't get it
The Batman jokes were ACTUALLY Spielberg and his team poking fun at Warner Bros. and their OBSESSION with Batman at the time. Every movie - every cartoon - every TOY had to be Batman... people think that the whole ERM BERTMERN thing is more of a 2000s problem - but back in the 90s it was just as bad.
Warner Bros LITERALLY killed the original Batman animated series with over-saturation of the character and a lack of focus - and then did it AGAIN with Justice League Unlimited by taking the spotlight off the MAIN Justice League team and spreading the series too thin with, again, over-saturation and a lack of focus. Ever worse - they killed OTHER shows for NOT living up to the profits generated by Batman. As Animaniacs and Tiny Toons went on - and their ratings slipped - the jokes got more obvious and over the top because the writers and crew were SICK of being reminded how much more money and toy sales fucking BATMAN was generating :P
So they'd mock Warner Bros to make themselves feel better.
IcedFate Batman was pretty big at the time 🤷🏽♂️
@@2Scribble Justice League Unlimited was great
I used to LOVE pinky and the Brain and the Animaniacs, this made me go look for it. Going to rewatch the cynical yet still enjoyable aspects of this. I loved Brain the most. I guess I've always been cynical.
"Spawn of Incubi"? So her father was a lust demon? ...Weird.
That explains so much - and yet - so little...
And if we are considering she is Elmer Fudd's daughter in concept...
PSA: Animaniacs is finally on Netflix! Go and binge watch the shit out of it!
+5carecrow94 already 20 episodes in, my interwebs friends!
5carecrow94 I had no idea there were this many episodes. Wow.
I laughed at the Clockwork Orange joke.
+Vercalos al'Corlin Still don't care for this show (At least not like I do with Pinkie and the Brain) But yeah that was pretty funny. XD
"It's Pinky and the Brain."
"And Poochy."
i like Pinky and The Brain and Larry
Fairly Odd Parents took inspiration from this.
How?
GG good sir and/or madam
Even in this show the producers tried to take the best of it, fairly oddparents gave up
+Jean-Pierre Moreno I think sparky is better than chole I absolutely HATE chole
+Mary Anderson I mean chloe
You should make a video on Freakazoid! That show was amazing.
ikr
I honestly haven't herd of it. What the plot synopsis?
+Mac'n CheeseTV
I only seen a clip from it about the weather.
+Mac'n CheeseTV honestly, just look up the theme song. it more or less sums up the whole show
I KNEW IT!!!! IT'S SOME GUY IN A HELMET!!!!!
................and larry!
After watching this video, I begrudgingly gave this show a chance after YEARS of refusing to, and I have to say...I'm not disappointed. It's actually pretty funny. The original was immeasurably better, but it's still good. The writers, Rob and Maurice, etc. did a fantastic job with what they were given/forced to do lol
I would've preferred Larry over Elmyra.
I thought you said married!
Ixapter and Larry
Ixapter what about Zeppo?
Same
Omg yes that would've been great
The A Clockwork Orange joke made me literally laugh out loud.
Surprisingly the clips Critic showed got a couple laughs from me. Hell, the "Clockwork Orange" and Christopher Walken jokes had me belly-laughing for a couple minutes
+Ethan Olsvik why surprising? Those were the ones he found funny
The va did the voice for a horse in dave the barabrian
I remember the gag that accompanied Christopher Walken's character, dramatic chanting saying things like "Ontario" and "Lactose", to be quite funny. Plus, the episode told entirely in Elmyra's point of view, down to the art style being childish doodles, was pretty cool. But overall...sigh. I read this was done to KILL the show because they were ending the block, and it would have looked bad if they cancelled it with high ratings. Make more sense than them wanting it to succeed.
Hahaha! Holy shit, I can't believe they referenced A Clockwork Orange in a kids' show. XD
+Michael Wolfe
it wouldnt be as surprising nowadays, but yeah, it's certainly a surprise to see it referenced in the hyper censor everything and anything era that this show came out around the time of.
The idea of Christopher Walken being in this cartoon just sounds really bizarre. Just seeing Christopher Walken and The Brain having a discussion on physics is just ridiculous.
Well I remember laughing at this show every time Brain said complex words and Elmyra washed his "filthy mouth" was always a dumb jokes but it worked for me.
"let's hope she never rents a Clockwork Orange."
OH GREAT! NOW YOU GOT ME CURIOUS OF WHAT HAPPENS!!!!!!
Though one quote from brain in this series was great.
That being:
""If I conquered the world and lost you as a friend, I would have gained nothing""
A real touching quote from Brain to pinky.
Critic was way more kind to this show than I ever felt. But looking at it from his point of view, I can kinda see where he's coming from.
11:36 Oh Snap! The Critic went there! Lmao. Can't for his official review on it.
+Aokaminariki I think I'll pass on that one. He tends to not like things I think are great and I can't stand watching him when that happens.
"Boy, I laugh a lot!"
Right, that got me.
Imagine if Mr. Enter just burst in and started reviewing, completely ignoring NC. Then Critic is all like, "Who the FUCK are you?" Mr. Enter explains himself and the review just goes on.
SamuraiFighterChick I mean, of course it's goes on. The review must go on
i always figured elmira was a mix between elmer fudd and the yeti that wanted to "hug 'em and Squeeze'em and call him george"
Tim Curry being an evil carnival owner. I could definitely see that happening in reality.
+Napalm Blaziken Would he sell balloons that float?
Kimani Wilson-Hunte Oh yes. They float. They all float. AND YOU'LL FLOAT TOO!
It’s kinda like how Hanna-Barbera came up with weird spin-offs for their shows
My vote for your next Was That Real? is the "Little Shop" cartoon series, which tries to translate the Roger Corman horror comedy/off-Broadway musical hit "Little Shop Of Horrors" into a pre-teen Saturday morning cartoon.
The only other time I've even heard of this show, was when Mr. enter did an Animated Atrocity on it.
+Flack Jacket Yep.
+Flack Jacket same
+Flack Jacket Same
All Mr. Enter does is bitch and nitpick everything
Power Reef
Yeah, I can attest to that, having asperger's, myself. Aspies tend to be very detail-oriented.
I adore Animaniacs, Tiny Toons and Pinky and the Brain, but I had NO idea this show even existed.
+JonnyLikesGames87 So did most people.
+JonnyLikesGames87
I watched it when it came on but had no idea the story behind it. It's funny for me to learn all this now.
do next about Yo Yogi, the early 90s cartoon about modernized Yogi-bear, who in that was a teenager and solved mysteries in the mall. yep, that was real.
wtf? hahshhahaha
Heavens to Rambo!
That aired on NBC's very last season of Saturday morning cartoons!
I lost it at “Let’s hope she never rents a clockwork orange.” THIS SHOW WAS FOR KIDS!!!
What did the guy say at 3:29? I heard "So Pinky and the Brain shared a new Domain" and then something I couldn't quite hear "Why bother to complain?"
+Geometry Dash Agent "So Pinky and the Brain, Share a new domain, It's what the network wants, Why bother to complain?"
+Geometry Dash Agent "It's what the network wants, Why bother to complain."
No, I don't know how they were allowed to say that in the theme song.
"it's what the network wants"
"it's what the network wants"
Lumpyismyname Oh, that's actually pretty funny.
When she ran into the wall, I actually chuckled. Like a genuine laugh that slips when you don't expect one to. I haven't laughed genuinely at a cartoon gag in so long, man. So this show gets points in my book at least! Lol
I bet Doug did this because Animaniac's is now on Netflix.
+Mr. Atari 2600
Now thats how you get with the times. He is a businessman.
I never could understand Elmyra's appeal. I just found her grating.
+Joe England Agreed. Montana Max? Yeah, he was a pretty good antagonist. Dizzy Devil? He was a fun force of nature. Elmyra was just irritating.
I agree. I hated her.
I want to say she was semi-based off one of the producer's kids, and that's why she was so big. I have no articles to base this off of, but it's something I think I remember hearing a while back
It's the only human loli in a anthropomorphic cartoon show.
Someone at WB apparently must have loved Cree Summer
4:54 That was actually such a funny line I had to pause the video for a moment.
The only thing this needs is more cowbell!
+zillafire101 I wouldn't get that close if I were you, you might catch my feva.
And Larry
zillafire101
Jeez,what's your problem?
Thanks for bringing these back. I think these are my favorite editorials.
The "A Clockwork Orange" and the mention of the "The Raven" joke/episode made me jump a bit, and laugh so hard I nearly cried.
Does Pinky seem pointless... or POIT!-less?
Thank you! I'll be here all week.
Interesting fact:
In a no-longer-available video I made years ago, Pinky, Elmyra, and the Brain was one of the things I wanted the Nostalgia Critic to review. Well, now my wish is granted.
But what's the interesting fact
I remember that episode that was an homage to "The Raven" and it's great. Loved Pinky and the Brain, forgot that this show had ever existed.
I really like this series. Would definitely love to see more Was That Real.
Brain:"Let's hope she never rents A Clockwork Orange." HOLY SHIT!!!! That quote says a LOT now that I'm an adult and have seen that film.
Ikr, I was kinda shocked. I mean, kids watching this back then would have saw this episode and be curious... I mean... Damn Brain!!! Lets hope those other kids don't rent A Clockwork Orange!!!
+Conker The Cat Pretty common of Steven Spielberg cartoons. When I watch Tiny Toons, Animaniacs, and Pinkey and the Brain, I'm kind of surprised with how much I missed as a kid, and it gets me thinking "was this REALLY meant for kids, or was this written for the parents that are forced to watch this with the kids?"
here's an idea for a future was that real video, sherlock hound. that's right, a 1980s anime starring the cast of sherlock Holmes, as dog people! I saw a couple of episodes on hulu, and they were pretty good, the idea is just so odd. after a bit of research I found out haiyo miazaki worked on it, at least the first 6 episodes. oh and in the dub, moriarty shares a voice actor with gizmoduck!:)
Wait did you say Sherlok holmes anime with dogos!
Im looking it up rn
Edit: Looked it up, it's not terrible, so it's a progress
Executive Meddling: Jamie Kellner and the executives at Warner Bros. requested that Elmyra from Tiny Toon Adventures be included in the series, much to the writers' frustration. This trope later gained a combined Take That! and Lampshade Hanging in the form of the retool-explaining Expository Theme Tune: So Pinky and the Brain / Share a new domain / It's what the network wants / Why bother to complain? At the end of the song, Brain laments "I deeply resent this."
i love the background music of these reviews most of the time, as much as i love the propgags and insane awesome things critic does, these ones i like the most, it just seems more indepth then a regular one with lots of jokes with the cast sometimes.
eh could just be me, but ether way, love you doug and everyone, thanks for the reviews and constant continuous uploads.
Actually
why did Fred order them every week?
The second biggest question in the universe
behind what meatloaf won't do for love
To be fair. I could see Tim curry running an evil carnival.
"It's way better than this crossover (Batman v Superman)."
True that.
I think this is a great sub-series! Here are some suggestions for additional episodes:
- Tazmania (the Tasmanian Devil sitcom)
- Lunatics Unleashed (Looney Tunes as dark, serious superheroes)
- all the American super sentai shows coasting on Power Rangers' success (Big Bad Beetleborgs, VR Troopers, Masked Rider, Superhero Samurai Cyber Squad, and Tattooed Teenage Alien Fighters from Beverly Hills)
"lets hope she never rents a clockwork orange" XD thats great
5:43 Looks like my little sister when she sees a flashlight.
fun fact: this show was won a daytime emmy for outstanding children's animated program
I completely forgot that this even existed. Thanks for the review, NC. BTW, loved the sick burn at the very end of the review! LOL
