Yes, u can share interests in common, but a 53 is in a completely different stage of their life compared to a 20 year old, who's barely an adult. Besides, their brains are not even fully developed, so they're easier to manipulate. Some may argue that exceptions exist, which is true, but again, the exception isn't the norm.

I'm nearly 60 years old. When I was 53, I dated a woman 20 years younger than me. I didn't have any money, fame or status, and I'm ugly as f. What I did have was a bit of charisma and courage, something I was distinctly lacking in my 20s and 30s. And up until a couple of years ago, when I fell ill, I was still getting interest from women in their 20s and 30s. Everyone is different, and like each other for their own reasons.

My in-laws are 20 years apart. It's just a normal, happy marriage, and my mom in law has never been some "poor brainwashed victim". I agree that some older people DO date younger ones because they need someone naive enough so they can get away with their bullsh*t, or because they're seeking to re-live the glory of their youth through someone else. Personally I wouldn't actively seek to date someone much younger or older than me either. There's probably some psychological stuff going on here, too. Daddy issues that warp her perception of self worth and stuff. That's what's really messed up with these relationships because it's rarely a situation where the older person actually cares for the younger individual. If they did, they would take those issues into consideration and realize they're playing off of them in order to get their own sexual gratification. True love would then stop out of concern for the other person.
If you claim a 10 year old is mature enough to alter their body permanently, then how can you have a problem with a 20 year old 'strong independent' woman having a relationship? Pick your side. Either the 10 uear old isn't mature enough, or by God a 20 year old is mature enough to understand a relationship that she is able to stop at any time, unlike those puberty blockers.

There are 'celebrities' like Leonardo Di Caprio who only date younger women. Normal men go out and buy a sports car when they get to middle age. I could also reel of 'celebrities' like Rod Stewart, Harrison Ford, Jeff Goldblum, Beyonce, David Tennat and many more who are in age gap marriages, all of whom have been married for over 10 years. Even though in theory, it’s just as legal as 20 and 50. So what’s the difference? I’m one to believe that young adults should be allowed to make their own choices, but it’s absolutely healthy for people to show concern. As long as we don’t try to infantilize the young woman by arguing she is a child.

Dating someone near your age who is a real partner is more fulfilling, but is also infinitely harder to find, riskier, and more of an investment of precious time for someone as busy as these people. Which makes a clear-cut transactional relationship just that much simpler.

My initial thoughts were… “Actually I do see age gaps most prominent in Hollywood relationships and the LGBTQ community!” What makes the most sense to me is that celebrities and gay people have a certain way of life that is only really understandable by other people in those “small-pond” communities. It would make sense to me that you would fish for a relationship in those small ponds. Perhaps, a considerable age difference is the last thing that someone would consider if everything else that could be considered compatible with them and their lifestyles line up. Just my initial thought because I do see it common in those two specific communities.

Aren’t humans supposed to be in their “prime” in early ages just as they enter adult hood? Some sources say a woman’s “prime” is between the ages of 18-20 and for men 20-23? It makes sense that following the prime urges of attraction, people in the ages of their prime 18-23/24 are most sought after. This is actually even true for models, actors, and pop stars. 18-24 are the ages / demographics that the general population find most “attractive.” It would make sense that rich and powerful people, that have that to offer a younger person, would attract that younger person and the younger person’s youth and “prime” state of being attract the older “rich” / “powerful” person. You are right. They both seem to benefit from that union. You also have a strong point that it’s harder to have a lasting relationship with someone who is not in the same phase of life that you are. Even if you are compatible in personality because “opposites attract” (grounded vs free spirit), there seems that there might be problems that arise just from wind in such drastically different places in life (partner A freshly starting college life vs partner B who is going through a second divorce). I wouldn’t want to see age gaps being the norm, but I do think that sometimes they are ok. I know of two married couples in my life who had age gaps, and they turned out fine. It’s more important to look at the circumstances in how they got together and why they are together.
I personally have this belief that the woman needs to be at least 16 years older then the man's oldest child. If she could be young enough to be your 16 year old teen mom, she's old enough to date your dad. Same thing goes for a man dating a woman with children.
Humans are incredibly complicated, and I find that very fascinating. I'm 24 and I wouldn't feel comfortable dating a girl who's 18, but that's just me.

My last girlfriend was 27 years younger than me. AND was my boss. I'm not rich or famous. She didn't mind,nor did I. I'm 57 now. We parted ways last year. She still hits me up sometimes.😊

To provide a differing view point - I dated a couple of girls in my 40's and they were in their late 20's. They were both
'one & dones'. I wasn't even able to maintain a reasonable conversation w/those youngins', It was horrid.
I had the same experience dating younger men (28 and 32) in my 40s. Tried to hold conversations but it was difficult, and honestly both were quite boring.
This would happen to more men if they saw women as people and had an interest in connecting to us as people.

It's not always the case though. I dated a woman in her early 20's in my late thirties who acted far more mature than some of the women i dated that were my age or older. It just depends on how the personalities align. But in most case I would have to agree.
Don't really care for massive age gap relationships because it seems that a majority have a beauty-for-money dynamic. The reality is both adults are making a choice and either could be seen as predatory, not just the man.
Why is it always assumed that the man is taking advantage of the woman, when it is just as likely that they both like the relationship, or the woman is using their beauty and manipulation to take advantage of the mans success/resources for their own gain? In fact, the last one seems far more likely the situation in almost all of the cases.
Men still bear the burden of blame because 20-year-olds are more susceptible to coercion and manipulation. There's a reason certain privileges are still gated at 18. Toby is far more aware of the consequences of this relationship, even if they're both adults.

Not our business, but from my personal experience, it starts to matter when one is 40 and the other is 70, or 50 and 80. My hubby is older than my parents. He has Parkinson’s with dementia. I’m married but I no longer have my soulmate. The love of my life forgets who I am. I’m alone even though my partner is still with me. The cruelty of him wasting away and me only able to watch. If you’re in love, you’re in love and I would marry him a thousand times again, just know what you are signing up for. Sickness and health, and for better for worse are not just words. 💔
I just turned 20 and there is no way a 20 year old and a 50 year old are in the same maturity level. So regardless of them being consenting adults I do think there is a big imbalance.
