A big thanks to ‪@ryanhuber8629‬ for letting me drive his Tesla Model S Plaid. The modifications of a round steering wheel in place of the yoke, the software implementation of the stalks and functions, and the addition of the Tesla Track Mode software make this car INSANE! Hope you enjoy the video.

That's just the thing: there is NO ADVANTAGE to having the yoke. It may look cooler (for some people), but the normal steering wheel is just BETTER. Tesla really should offer a normal steering wheel as an option.

When little Elon Musk was building the model S originally. It didn’t even have interior lights in the rear. It was pretty much done at that point and his son was in the car for a drive and he said ‘who builds a car without lights inside. This is the stupidest car ever” and that’s what had them change it.
I honestly think that Elon Musk doesn’t know his stuff. Being a billionaire and having studied some science 🧪 - society tends to assume and allows those people to be “above us” intellectually and I think it’s so wrong. Musk to me is a quack. Has some decent insights but he should know his place. No one is going to mars anytime soon. Maybe 75-150 years. He needs to settle down and quit quackin and doing dumb builds thinking it’s the future.
He thinks he’s cool but the stuff he’s making is dangerous. A yolk is for planes for a reason.

Ive owned my Tesla S Plaid for almost a year now. I find the yoke unique, comfortable during cruising in a straight line and enjoy the increased visibility of the dash.
Low speed maneuvers, performance driving feel cumbersome wielding the yoke IMO. I could even see the yoke being dangerous in an emergency maneuver situation.
I certainly have adapted techniques overtime that make the yoke livable.
It's funny, but Tesla has recently made the round steering wheel an option for the new Tesla S and X. There is also a Steering Wheel Retrofit in the Tesla Shop (available in March) for the Model S/X and I am definitely buying one.

This is Michael. Great improvements all the way around . Some Tesla people on committees need to be replaced. The turn signals are abysmal. Taking the horn away from the center was moronic, no quick easy way to shift gears is a nuisance, no 360 view with all those cameras is inexcusable, and not giving people the option to choose steering wheel type is illogical and hurts sales. Wake up Tesla, you're turning into a Microsoft.

what we need is, a model x, model x performance, and model x plaid, model s, model s performance, and model s plaid. like that if you wanna go for something quicker you don’t have to go for THE PLAID

It's pretty sad when you have to modify a 100k+ sedan to get a steering wheel. Tesla should offer the "yoke" as an option. Instead they give you no choice.

Now all we need is the stocks back, and some normal manual door handels.
Update: as of 2023 you can configure model S with normal steering wheel. Hell yeah! 😁

I like the yoke after having tried it on a test drive. Before that I didn't think I would like it. Maybe I would start with the yoke and then later on, if I felt like it, switch to the round wheel.

Is this available as aftermarket purchase? (Love the suspension tweaks without having to dive into menus). Also, I’ve done nearly 11,000kms and the Yoke does not give any benefits over a wheel - please model 3 wheel with normal controls for safety … #elonmusk

If they want to add a gimmick to the round steering wheels they should add the racing strip on the top of the wheel but its plaid.

What don't you guys get if Elon could be pushed around you wouldn't have any electric cars to fit a round wheel so say thank you and buy the after market changed you want and stop thinking you can make him build it the way you want it.

Hey, cool video and cool car, I just wonder why they took away the levers on the "newer" Model S where you can now also choose between Joke and Normal steering wheel again. Also, there is no more "Plaid" rear but only this huge ugly sticker.
I hope they bring the levers just for turn signals and forward / reverse driving back in. Which would simplify the handling just with frequent back and forth change (When parking or turning in traffic).
Joke itself I find cool, but for everyday life me then too habituation needy. Do you think it comes again ne Abgeänderte version of the Model S/X?

Who says you can't mod a Telsa? Which having hidden controls on the wheel is more minimalist and gamer/techy then having a massive screen... Not to mention safer and faster then messing with menus. Which since I saw daly motor's track test between the model Y standard and Mach-E I've been saying Telsa's are muscle cars becuase they are cheap stock speed he beasest defination of them. And the Mach-E is a pony car becuase it turns and is cheap stock speed.
