Well, actually a game without any tutorial will encourage videos like this and thus, community interactions outside of the game, so I think it's a good thing.
They should have those things that Puyo Puyo Tetris has. They teach you everything and it shows you how to do it, but they want you to experiment to see how apply it.
This is a pretty desperate tip, but if you know you’re going to get KO’d, you can stall for even more time to possibly get a better place. Switch to your held tetrimino after spinning your other tetrimino for too much time.
I was pretty much the same way. I had lag during the stream so I thought it was a Tetris from the N64 because it's called 99, so I thought 1999. I was like they're giving us a 20 year old version of a game that's been around way longer, and we have another version on this console? I downloaded it and my mind was blown when I saw all those boards, I didn't realize what I got myself into. I played Puyo Puyo Tetris a lot so I was already familiar with the garbage mechanic. I played a few rounds and did okay, then finally I won a match! It's so crazy that Tetris really makes an excellent battle royale game.
Well, these tips can be definitely useful for those who doesn't really understand the targeting mechanic, and thanks to this video, i can consistently get first place now ! Thanks a lot, GX !
I'd like to add something to that last tip. The spinning trick works very well, but try to focus on keeping the tetromino off to the side of the map so when it does eventually fall, the next one will always spawn in the middle and you'll have a little more time to spin the next tetromino. It may not sound like it'll save much time, but any extra time in the final ten is crucial to getting a higher spot
Most of that was just normal multiplayer tetris strategies that I already knew, however the information on how badges work was quite informative and clearly explained so good video overall.
My highest place was 5th place, and that was the only time I've ever made it to the top 10. One try after watching this video, I got 11th place. I almost never make it to the top 30 lately. Thank you!!! At this rate I'm going to get a Tetris Maximus very soon!
Guys, this is the time to go for the win. Almost all those meta-humans with god-like concentration are absent. I managed to win 3 times in the last hour.
Next video in tetris should be things about like t-spins, perfect clear opening or 4 wide. These things probably can help some at the start and the middle of a match
For those who just want hints 1:Go for weak players at the beginning of the game by switching targets to K.O’s. This allows you to get K.O badges, which increase your attack power. 2:If you are being attacked by multiple attackers, switch your targets to Attackers if you want to survive. 3:Target people with more K.O badges mid-game by switching your targets to badges. 4:Near the end of the game, target people that seem to be struggling. 5:If it seems like you’re near the end, quickly spin pieces that are outside the matrix to stall for time.
I've been making it to the top 20s-10s spots for days now and didn't even know that I could hold a block or target people, I honestly thought it was luck of the draw. These tips will hopefully get me in the winners circle.
Another little tip. In tetris games your goal is to get as many 4 line clears as possible. However in a game like this that is less important than keeping the number of lines low. Therefore your goal is to keep clearing lines and avoid buildup. The faster you clear the more time you have to react when you get an influx of garbage. Yes this means your attacks are weaker, but the strength of an attack is less important than it might initially seem as all it takes is failing to clear to lead to you losing. If you clear lines faster than your opponent then it doesn't matter that you are only adding 1-2 lines of garbage as eventually those lines will add up and ruin them.
Just need to point out that when being attacked by multiple people you're attacks aren't evenly distributed rather the set of garbage attacks are all worth the exact amount displayed.
This was pretty helpful, I got a win already by primarily using the attackers method with a dash of ko, but I get how the battle royale part of the game works now so I'll try some of these tips to see if I win more consistently.
As an advanced tetris player that wins roughly 40% of the time at this game I gotta say. Don't target people with Badges mid game. Whenever someone starts targeting me once I gathered a few badges, I switch to "Attackers" and destroy anyone that dares attack me. Also, in the end game, you don't want to stay on "K.O", you want to be on either "Attackers" or "Badges". Reason being that if there's 3 people left and someone is attacking you but nobody is attacking the person attacking you, he's gonna have an easier time building a huge stack and take you out. You always want to put pressure on the people attacking you during end game.
I would note that the multi-targeted boost still occurs, no matter what strategy you use. This means you distribute your attack back to your attackers, or use the boost for a mega-attack on one poor soul who didn't ask for 16 lines at once. Wumbo would be proof of that.
In this vid, you explain common mechanics, but in my experience focusing on setups and random t spins on the ko setting works way better as I usualy place #1
Thanks so much for making this video man. I think it's also a matter of getting used to the controls because when I first played this game I was so confused with the controls and I was just also trying to do it at a fast pace level because this is a fast pace game so I'm still trying to get used to the controls of the game and once I do then I think that will definitely help me out a lot as well to help me win this game.
Thanks for the tips. Still have no clue what a t-spin and so on are yet by playing as I normally play before watching this video got me in top 20 almost everytime. Had no clue you could target someone. Brilliant and truly addictive gameplay at its best :-p
Basically, to do a t-spin... First, find (or build, if you have to get a t-spin as an achievement or something) a hole shaped like this: █ . . . . . . █ . █ Then, softdrop (↓) a sideways t-block down into the hole. █▓ . . ▓▓ █▓█ Finally, rotate the t-block clockwise once to complete the T-Spin Double. █ . . ▓▓▓ █▓█
Okay, tried this strategy instead of my usual "target attackers, unless there's only one of them, then target KO's". Out of three games, the first one I died very soon, but that could've been bad luck. The other two I was in top ten (but not in top five). It may be useful, though I only got 2 or 3 KO's each game. My KO record of, I think, 13 - and my only win - was achieved by only targeting attackers. Either way, thanks for the video!
FYI, understanding how to be good at tetris will help you more than any of these tips. One really important thing to understand is that combos are better than just going for tetrises, especially for defense. The easiest way I've found to learn how to do this is by setting up a two-block-wide blank column instead of a one-block-wide. This means you'll be able to use nearly any piece to clear lines instead of just the long piece, and it'll net you multiple combos.
Learn Your SRS... (Modern Tetris makes Tetraminos move to a different position based on blocks around it) Do better Openers (T Spin Triples/All Clears/C4W) Faking Death (Get targeted by more to counter with TST) Get Used to Game Speed (So you place/spin Tetraminos Faster, Faster Thinking-Good enough to only look at the Next bar)
My strategy: Keep on attackers all the way through. Make sure you plan early on on having at least one space per line so that you can rank up some combos. Clear at least 2 to 3 lines. If you managed to have one column CONPLETELY EMPTY and have 2 line tetrimos... GO FOR A TETRIS BACK TO BACK! IT CAN BRING PAIN TO THE OTHER PLAYERS! Lastly, the game goes faster when more players get eliminated. Try to keep up with the pace and you should be fine. *Note* This is not a 100% strategy as there were times that I end up in the Top 20, mostly in the Top 10, and winning 3 times.
I’ve won 21 out of 56 games. Here are my strategies: - Target attackers from the start and never change it. Lots of people are targeting badges and KOs which means those targeted guys will have massive attack power in return. (I love being targeted by a ton of players because even a single line can bury them in a ton of garbage.) Plus, thinking about new targets mid match will distract you and cause more errors. - T-spins and All Clears are overrated. T-spins are tricky to set up and pull off with little reward, and All Clears are rare and they only have an attack power similar to a Tetris. I won’t lie though: both are satisfying to get, but let them be happy accidents rather than a goal. - Go for back-to-back Tretrises (these don’t require consecutive pieces, just don’t get singles, doubles, or triples between them), or combos (any number of lines with consecutive pieces). B2Bs and combos get an attack boost as long as you can keep them up. - Don’t panic if you make a mistake. Use the spin strategy in the video or the hold button if you need an extra few seconds to collect yourself. - The Next queue is your friend. A good player will already have a plan as to where each piece in the queue is going and is willing to change it depending on what new pieces pop up. - Lastly, be better than the guy in the video. He makes a lot of cringe worthy moves and takes too long thinking between pieces. You get better the same way you get to Carnegie: practice.
I came 7th in my first game and I didn’t no there was any option to attack or anything. I had no idea what was going on. Played it about 10 times now and not got in to the top ten yet. But this was really helpful! They need to include instructions in the game.
Many years ago I was so good at tetris,I used to play tetris blitz & was defeating players every game but on tetris 99 it's a concept that I'm new at(battle royales)and this video mentioned various of the things that are hard like manually aiming while looking at your matrix while also looking at the players tiny screens it's crazy,I won 1st on the single player game so hopefully when I get more used to this concept I can defeat players like the old days(in tetris blitz it was 1 vs 1 which I'm obviously more familiar with & there wasn't the targeting thing like in this one, when it's 1 vs 1 o can defeat anyone regardless of how good they are, with battle royale gameplay I need a bit more practice)
I feel like the target selection meta has already changed. It seems The majority of players badge at the start. The idea is that the first person to kill will be a higher skilled player, and he will now be targeted because of having the most/only badge. The other aspect is that only 1 lesser skilled player dies, so the odds are low and the number of attackers are high, and the victim only has one badge. The only other target option is switch to attackers, and stay there till they or you lose. Most people know that running away just gives them a chance to get a better badge advantage over you.
I completely misunderstood how the targeting worked, I figured that getting KOs was bad and that "KOs" meant you targeted who was knocking players out. And I wasn't immediately sure what badges did or what gave them (that voice clip isn't very clear that it's saying K.O.)
I didn't even know that badges increase the attack power, this game really needs a tutorial/guide.
I second this, I wish one of the menus at least told you what things were.
Well, actually a game without any tutorial will encourage videos like this and thus, community interactions outside of the game, so I think it's a good thing.
Even though there is a tutorial, there will still be videos showing tips and tricks.

Looks like this is a job for me
I feel like the target selection meta has already changed.
Thanks a lot, the tips are very helpful!
At my dads we have tetris battles and try to beat each other’s high scores and we get really competitive
The Easy KOs strategy (manually): Select people whose tiles have turned red. That means they are close to topping out.

I wouldve never thought badges increased your power
These tips are ONLY the beginning!
this works so good I went from scores around 60ish to top 20!
I completely misunderstood how the targeting worked, I figured that getting KOs was bad and that "KOs" meant you targeted who was knocking players out. And I wasn't immediately sure what badges did or what gave them (that voice clip isn't very clear that it's saying K.O.)
Dude thank you so much! I’m so much better now!
