    I enjoyed hearing about your sewing projects. My mom is an amazing seamstress. However, a little over a year ago he got GBS (Guillain-Barré syndrome). In her case it was extremely aggressive. She lost complete control of her body. She is very slowly improving but is still on a ventilator. She is able to open her eyes again and move her head and shoulders. She is starting to be able to move her legs but only a very little. Last time I was able to visit her she told me how much she is looking forward to being able to sew again. Long story to say that your talk about sewing reminded me of my mom when she was able to sew.

    Beautiful FOs.
    Something to consider, when I go up a size or two due to gauge, I will still use the depths of whatever size I usually am / would be if I hit gauge. Otherwise your garment will fit width wise (usually what we care about with gauge) but not depth wise. It’s not hard to do at all. Just cast on what the larger size says but knit to what the smaller size says. I also do a bit of math when it comes to sleeves if there are decreases along the length. It’s not hard just uses a bit of fractions.

      @thosetwinswhoknit  7 місяців тому

      That’s a good idea! We’re both getting more comfortable with deviating from pattern instructions, but it’s definitely easy to just fall into rhythm and forget things like that which would help the final fit!

    All the knitting and sewing projects look beautiful. Thanks so much for sharing. Rachel, can i ask how much yarn you used for your Sabai Top (or how much it weighs)? I am thinking of making it with Tynn Line held double and not sure how much yarn to order (or if i have enough yarn in stash). I am really inspired to make the Margaux top as well after seeing your version(s). Jess, that caramel colour is so pretty. Thanks for the inspiration. :)

    • @thosetwinswhoknit
      @thosetwinswhoknit  7 місяців тому

      Thank you so much!! I used 4 skeins but I have leftovers from 2, I’m guessing around 20 grams.. so it might be possible to get away with 3 skeins, especially if you crop things often! I think the Tynn line doubled has really beautiful drape and feels lightweight but doesn’t have too loose of a gauge so I am super happy with it for the Sabai top 😊

    A suggestion to reduce the size of the Sabai armhole: you can pick up a small number of stitches (say 6 or so) at the bottom of the armhole, and then knit back and forth, creating short rows, increasing the number of stitches on each side. I would do this using a smaller needle, which would cinch it in a bit, and then I would use a simple needle bind-off to keep it from stretching open.
    Watching along as I finish my Margaux, and eyeing an old celery green linen tablecloth...

    On your black handbag, your sewing machine may not be to blame. Sometimes switching out the needle makes all the difference. There are even "leather" needles that are very sharp and may be used on synthetics. There is also a device called a "jean-a-ma-jig" that you put either behind or in front of a section you are sewing that has a lot of thickness. It helps the feed dog adjust between multiple thicknesses and few thicknesses.

    • @thosetwinswhoknit
      @thosetwinswhoknit  7 місяців тому

      Oh this is so good to know!! I’ll definitely look into both the needle and the “jean-a-ma-jig” (what a perfect name 😅) next time I work with a thick material like this! Thank you!

    • @thosetwinswhoknit
      @thosetwinswhoknit  7 місяців тому

      It really depends!! Lace socks are usually pretty airy and feel a little thinner, but socks with cables or a dense fabric can be too thick for shoes most of the time for me 😅
