🇻🇨St Vincent/Caribbean Fry Bakes/Dumplings//Yeast Bakes// (Soft and Fluffy)

  • There are many ways you can make your bakes. There are bakes with baking powder, bakes with yeast, and even with bakes with powder and yeast together. If you use baking powder make sure you add butter and lard or one anyone.
    Recipe
    2 cups of all purpose flour (extra flour by the side)
    1 1/2 teaspoon of instant yeast
    1 tablespoon of butter
    1/2 tablespoon of lard/crisco
    1 tablespoon granulated sugar
    1 teaspoon of salt (if you prefer)
    About 3/4-1 cup Luke warm water or room temperature if you prefer.
    kneading takes about 3 minutes and few seconds.
    Fry bakes on low heat.
    Cover container and let dough rest for 30 minutes in a warm area.
    Bakes takes about 2 minutes on each sides to fry.
    Enjoy your bakes after they cool down.

    Thanks Sam, bakes came out perfect. The best bakes I ever made. I can’t explain why as a Vincentian, I kept using Trini and Jamaican bakes recipe. This is the recipe!!! Keep these vincy recipes coming ❤️

    My father is vincy and while we lived over there he used to make those everyday. Even now we moved to the US he's still going and these are phenomenal, can't wait to start learning for myself

    As for the ring if a person don't want the ring around the sides of the bakes they have to fry them in more oil . My grandmother use to almost deep fry them ,no need to turn them on a side

    Thank you for this version my family is from st.Kitts, st.Croix, and Antigua. I’ve tried my mom and grandmother way so many times with the baking powder and I can never get it right 😅I’ve followed this and my dumplings came out amazing 🤩

      In St.Vincent, Trinidad, and some other Caribbean islands, they do called it "bakes." The one they boil, we called it "dumpling."

    I love the look of your bakes, best I have seen to date.
    But I truly wish that for all the Caribbean channels, someone would step out of the box and start cooking with wholewheat flour.
    Yes, we grew up on white flour, but for the love of all that is holy, let us try something different for a change. Be that person that stands out from the rest.

      That is how we make bakes in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. If you are from Trinidad, this is not floats. Trinidadians make their floats flatter. This is definitely not donuts either. Please research before commenting.
