@@markmm1066I wouldn’t say he’s improved or devolved. His voice has changed a lot. He still has the power and stamina. He’s lost some range, but he’s also gained a quality I can’t quite label-the best I can come up with is “maturity”, but that doesn’t quite convey it.
I love classic Bruce vocals and current Bruce vocals about equally.

Welcome to the world of Iron Maiden! This live performance is from their Flight 666 DVD. I saw them last year in Gothenburg and it was so good. I think it was my 6th or 7th time. They're the reason I started playing the guitar 22 years ago. Also some facts I don't know if you know about. Bruce had two tumors back in 2015 when they were recording their album 'The Book of Souls'. One in his throat and one at the back of his tounge. He didn't wanted to do the surgery until after the album was done because he was afraid it would affect his voice too much. He wasn't even sure he could ever sing again. Also, Nicko had at the beginning of this year a mini stroke (A TIA). He got into a speedy rehab to be able to get on stage again asap. And between May 28th and October 2nd their tour 'The Future Past' has been going on. Iron Maiden are something else and very unique to music and performance. Bruce is not just an incredible singer, but also such an amazing story teller. Very theatrical band and musicians. I love these guys for so many reasons!❤

Great reaction , giving us your take on this great band from a drummers perspective without too many lengthy stops 👍 I grew up on this band , and their music has clearly stood the test of time , relating to their original fans from back in the day and the younger generation of today . Look in the audience at the age variation at their shows , its comical it's so diverse - From teens to Grandparents ! 😁 "Flight 666" is a Maiden documentary showing their show schedules , logistics with Ed Force One with Bruce Flying and concert footage , well worth a look at for an incite to this amazing hard working and professional outfit . You will see in this just how appreciative and committed they are to their fans , and why they have such a timeless cult following in return . The Maiden family is like a silent unofficial family , they just gather in mass to make their existence well known with continually sold out shows 😁. See you on the next one . Not to take anything away from Nicko, but the musical drum bits pre-solo that you were pointing out were written by the original drummer, the late great Clive Burr. Nicko inserts quite a bit of his own personality in Clive-era songs, but he has always played Hallowed be thy name relatively straight to Clive's original for some reason.

    • @cobrasys
      @cobrasys Рік тому +2

Came here to say much the same. As much as Nicko makes _Hallowed_ his own whenever he plays it (and he has played it an INSANE amount of times, given that it's the default concert-ender), the composition genius behind the drum part is entirely Clive's.

To your questions about the live show, the band has been very vocal about not using a click track, though Nicko has said he uses some kind of device to help him start each song at the correct tempo. What happens after that is all about the organic experience of performing live. All three guitar players use in-ears, but if I remember right, Nicko and Steve do not. Can't remember about Bruce, but he has talked about the challenges of hearing the rest of the band while he sings when the drums and bass are relatively loud and the guitars relatively quiet on stage, and what he hears varies by where he is on stage.

They did this tour with Ed Force One, which was a Boeing 747, so that they could play a lot more shows than usual while still being well rested and having a great time. The fact that Bruce could graduate from a 757 to the real daddy jumbo jet certainly didn't hurt =D

    Loving your Iron Maiden content!!
The drumming in this one is predominately Clive Burrs masterpiece, but Nicko does it justice!!!
Please look into doing 22 Acacia Avenue and Flight of Icarus!!

I remember Lars Ulrich saying in the flight 666 documentary (which you should totally watch, lots of great live performances and it's a sort of history of the band too) where he said he gets annoyed at Nico, cause he has such a massive kit, and Lars what's to see what he's doing and how he's playing these songs, but you can't see him over the mountainous kit he plays lol

Hello Andrew this is Wim from the Netherlands i have another Iron maiden suggestion. One of my favorites the sign of the cross live from the rock in Rio concert.

Iron Maiden - Dance of Death (Live En Vivo) Just an amazing live clip.

Maiden with Nicko have always had quite a dynamic tempo, especially live, but lots of recorded album songs were done this way. A few if not most of the later albums have been recorded with an almost-live style and using mostly one good take of the whole band recording the base song at the same time in the studio if i've understood it correctly. They're SO tight and they've had the same members for SO long... If they use metronomes or click-tracks, i couldn't tell you, i just know they're so tuned in to eachother as a band that it's almost magic seeing them live.
Nicko is a very unique drummer, as anyone who understands anything about drumming already knows if they've heard Maiden =D

I think it’s pretty safe to say at this point, Iron Maiden are pretty progressive in terms of the tempo switches and lyrical themes. I think. Adrian Smith even said he was inspired by Pink Floyd in an interview.

Saw them two weeks ago in Vancouver. Still just as tight. Also Clive Burr was the original drummer on that song. You should check it out.

And to top it all off they sound amazing when they play live. One thing interesting is Maiden invests into their stage production and sound system. Bringing everything needed with them. Not chancing it on questionable stage gear at different venues.

thanks for this fine reaction to this timeless masterpiece from one of the greates bands ever. IM have influenced to so many bands and musicians. so for example all female metalband "Lovebites" from japan with tons of talent (in 2018 they won metal hammers prestigious best newcomer award and played wacken the same year) and a fantastic drummer. I recommend their song "Liar live 2023" from their official channel. they are so good.
