- Columbus officials announced Tuesday afternoon the arrests of eight Columbus Animal Care & Control workers on 34 criminal charges.The investigation was called for by the Columbus Council in July following public outcry over a video posted to Facebook showing the euthanasia of a dog named Chai at Columbus Animal Care & Control, the Ledger-Enquirer reported. Deputy Chief Lance Deaton of the Columbus Police Department made the announcement.

CCTV should be in all publicly funded facilities. This is disgustingly cruel, these people should never work with animals, certainly not kids or the elderly.
My 15-year-old mostly blind dachshund wandered off of our property. Someone picked her up and took her to the county shelter. The shelter employee scanned her and found a microchip, but we had never registered it. The employee called the manufacturer and found out which vet it was sold to. She then called the vet and they dug through ancient records and found my dog's records even though we had moved and used a different vet. We ended up getting our dog back the same day she was lost due to the diligence of our county shelter worker.
Places where a large group of vulnerable people/animals are found will always attract sick sadistic and sociopathic predators like moths to a flame. Evil people tend to work smarter, not harder. Why hunt for victims when they are right there in a big trapped mass?
Also, maybe you should go after the Department of Childrens Services. They are a criminal failure all around.

At one time the governor was a retired veterinarian and put most of these laws in to effect. Not to mention stricter regulations on veterinary technicians in the state. Most animal shelters are under the sheriffs department bet that's going to sting quite a bit in Columbus.
Take a look at Talbot county animal control while your at it there up to no good too.

I hasnt heard about this, so decided to search and read about this case instead of watching any videos. The descriptions are bad enough. I don't want those images in my head. You can't unsee. Killing at dog next to others in kennels? Pushing piles of bodies past kennels. The wicked kill method aside, that sort of heartless complacency, comfortable watching suffering, must have been going for years. That's not an isolated lapse of judgement, or sudden drop in standards. Vile.

All ACC shelters need to be investigated and PUPPY MILLS NEED TO BE BANNED IN ALL STATES if they banned puppy mills WE WOULDNT HAVE THIS PROBLEM and there would be enough homes for all our pets
I agree. I also think breeders should be required to have a license, and a permit for each littler costing $10,000 for license and $5,000 for the permit. Should be inspected every 6 months and violaters should go to jail for 5 years, no exceptions, no second chance.

@america9546 Actually YES it is , You have parents that need to make gofund me accounts and beg strangers for money so their child can have a life saving surgery or even have a simple life saving medication , like an Epi pen , you have women dying because they are denied life saving medical care , you have 10 yr old rape victims forced to be traumatized even more and forced to risk their life remaining pregnant with their rapists fetus and forced to risk their life giving birth to their rapists baby , you have rape victims who are forced to "share parenting rights" with their rapist and forced to hand the children over to their rapist for their "visitation rights " , you have countless hungry children , countless homeless children , at least once a week a toddler gets a hold of a loaded gun left lying around all over the damn place and shoots themself or someone else yet your country refuses to do the most simple and basic thing to stop it , you have children suffering from anxiety , panic attacks and PTSD by the age of 10 from being traumatized from practicing active school shooter drills every month from the time they were 4 , you have children wearing bullet proof vests and bullet proof back packs to school yet think it is normal and perfectly acceptable and continue to do absolutely nothing about it , an 11 yr old little girl literally watched her best friend and others get shot in front of her and that poor child put her hands into her dying friends blood and smeared it all over herself then lay down on the floor pretending to be dead hoping the shooter wouldnt come back and notice her FFS , I could go on and on and on . If you think the US isnt a 3rd world country then you are dillusional or in denial .

It is so damn easy to scan for a chip but they also must scan over the entire body. I also advice owners to put tracking collars on their pets.
some dogs slip their collars, others play too hard that they can get caught up in their collars.

Lowering expenses by euthanizing the ones not as " saleable " , happens in difficult economy . May there be a serious lesson here .. if you work where they are doing this , move on because it won't get better and you could be the scapegoat. 😢

THe Franklin County dog shelter is bad too for their euthenasia policies Refuse to work with many rescue centers And have done this to owners pets when they went there they were put down.
It would be nice if they told us why they were arrested in plain English. Animal control agencies often euthanize animals, but that's part of their job. So what happened here?
They did not scan for a chip before euthanizing the animals. I bet some pet owners discovered that their lost pet had been taken to that shelter, only to find out it had been euthanized, despite the microchip.
I don’t think I want to know what these animals went through before they were killed. I did notice one charge was euthanized with cruelty. That’s really bad

What is the hiring and training process at Columbus Animal Care & Control? Who is managing it? It's one thing to be an employee, it's another to not notice and/or allow it.
Georgia is still one of the worst states to be a domesticated animal in terms of legal protections.
The whole USA is one of the worst countries for animal cruelty.

From experience working at a non profit shelter lots of control issues with workers it's the same at all non profits unfortunately
There is a pathological type that gravitates toward animals as their victims and can be found working in shelters or as self proclaimed rescuers. The animals can’t speak for themselves and law enforcement usually puts these crimes in a non enforcement category. Before donating money to so called rescue agencies find out what they’re actually doing. Pet fosters are dong the best work and need support.

A dog owner who gave up their pet because they can no longer care for them we’re DOING THE RIGHT THING. YOUR statement is vertically saying they should have dumped them on the street to fend for themselves.
I had a friend who was constantly asking me to look after her dog while she and her husband would travel around the country, it got to the point I had the dog 75% of the time, I am disabled so looking after a dog who was high energy was taking a toll on my health and so I gave my friend a choice, either take Bo with you when you travel or hand her over to the shelter so that they could find her a forever home. She refused to take her with her as she was terrified of Bo running off, so,I had to refuse to look after Bo in the end. She finally allowed me to call animal rescue, Bo was taken with all of her things I had bought for her and within less than 24 hours a family adopted Bo. Dad and I wrote a letter of Bo’s likes and dislikes and how she loved playing in the paddle pond and oh so much more. We explained why Bo needed a new home with children as she was full of energy which was not compatible with either her full owners or myself. That was over 7 years ago and she now has a family who is more compatible than I or her owner ever were.
A dog owner who is willing to say they can no-longer take care of their DOG IS NOT IRRESPONSIBLE, they are doing the very thing that all those owners who have dumped their cats and dogs out on the street for them to fend for themselves.
But you ARE IRRESPONSIBLE for stating to the contrary, what you are IMPLYING is they should be dumping their dog on the streets.
