The story of the young Modesto woman, nearly eight months pregnant who had disappeared Christmas Eve, captivated the country and media.
Police searched the park near the Peterson's house and they investigated a burglary across the street.
After Laci vanished, the police - along with Laci's anguished family - held a press conference. The family highlighted the missing poster flyers of Laci's bright and happy personality.
The family described her husband Scott, as a caring husband, who would never do anything to harm his pregnant wife.
When we found stopped by Scott and Laci's house one morning, Scoot was taking out the trash. He was quiet, well-spoken and extremely polite. Yes, he saw our story, he told us. No, he didn't like it. No, he didn't wish to be interviewed.
Media descended from around the country. Amber Frey was revealed. Scott's lies blared out from national headlines. Radio DJ's set up broadcasting across from the Peterson house.
