    Just recently found your channel and really enjoy your content. As a high school throws coach, javelin is by far my weakest to teach to new throwers and your stuff has really helped me, and hopefully my throwers. Glad to see you're back producing content as well.

    Thanks Scott from Down Under. Watched many of your videos in the last few weeks. No doubt they assisted me in the South Australian Masters Games this past weekend. Most importantly, I did not injure myself. However, although my shoulder has no soreness at all, I can't say the same for my left groin and upper left hamstring. Recognised the need for warming up at my age but I need to become more flexible. Achieved my goal in throwing 6 distances beyond the state record, the longest being 35.90m (70 to 74 yo group). This was my first competition in 55 years. Sorry to have raved on a bit so i will conclude by saying that I really appreciate your tutorials that are clearly presented verbally and visually step by step. Keep up the good work. Kind regards, Max.😊

    Thanks again for posting. This video in particular really helps with planning sessions. Monday this and that, wednesday ... Fantastic! Where we are, La Pobla de Vallbona, Valencia. There's a club but, no track or throwing implements. We're using your videos as a coach and bamboo with a bit of tape as javalins and throwing into the olive groves... and we're having a blast. Thanks again.

    I always have the feeling of not being able to transfer all the power to the javelin through the grip, during the throw..I dunno if it's something of common or not..

    • @coachhalley
      @coachhalley  2 роки тому

      The problem could be a number of things. Have you considered the grip or release? ua-cam.com/video/uiP9ad_YRfY/v-deo.html I would need to see you throw to know more.

    Hey Scott, in 2019 I did javelin for the first time, I made it to ofsaa here in Ontario, but the one problem I always had was elbow pain. 3 years later I’m finally back to it. I stretched today, warmed up slowly, but once I went for a good throw, I once again hurt my elbow. Unfortunately my only coach doesn’t know much about javelin, so I’m self taught. I assume it’s a form- related issue. Do you have any advice, or a past video you could refer me to? I also have a video of me throwing if there’s any possibility of me sending you it. I really don’t want to cause further damage and ruin my last season in high school, I’ve been looking forward to it since 2019.

      I saw your email follow up, I've got a bit more detail for you there. For now, this is a very old video (I look so young!) but the basics of helping your elbow issues. ua-cam.com/video/B8w3IkosoJg/v-deo.html One of these days I'll created an updated video on the elbow... Take care!

    Do you have any advice about knee issues? My block leg buckled at an invitational and I’m curious about the optimal way to recover.

    • @coachhalley
      @coachhalley  2 роки тому

      Definitely get it checked out by a professional and follow their recommendations on recovery. If it was just a random injury, you may just have to recover and continue on with your training. If your knee is an issue because of problems with your form or method of training, it’s probably a good time to look at those things. I’ve got a few videos on my channel about the block, you are welcome to take a look. My big advice for the block is focus on deflecting the force, not stopping it while you throw. Reduce twisting your block leg and work on the timing of your throw so your block compliments your throw and is easy on the body. Best of luck!

    • @coachhalley
      @coachhalley  2 роки тому +1

      I’ll add this to my topic list. I hear this a lot from masters throwers. My trick is thinking about controlling the tail instead of the tip… I’ll get working on the video! Thanks for watching!

    Could holding the grip too hard when throwing result in shoulder pain?

    • @coachhalley
      @coachhalley  2 роки тому

      First thing, definitely get your shoulder checked by a professional. Second, I would need to watch you throw to get a better idea of your technique but generally folks need to use the rest of their body to throw. Distribute the force a bit more. The other is use your muscles more like rubber bands. Be more loose and relaxed when you throw. I’m sure others will have thoughts on this as well. Best of luck out there!

    Scott I got a meet tomorrow. How do I draw more power with my crossovers abs hips?

    • @coachhalley
      @coachhalley  2 роки тому +1

      Length of pull... Keep your throwing hand back until the hips are fully into the throw. I've got a few coaching sessions with hip drills. Look for the 2 part session with Reese. Good luck!
