    Great piece of advice! Its the best way to go!!
    i would also add that most budget dj controller lack of the Booth out, so you also solve this problem just plugging from the Mixer auxiliary out or phone out to the monitors and you have a complete control of the monitoring volume.

      @DJHuckmonkey Then route the signal from the basic mixer into an effects unit (Delay, Echo, Reverb, Pitch control, Auto warp long sample, Convolution Reverb, Compressor, Desser, Hi pass, Low pass filters ) add in a Novation Launchpad on one channel running through Ableton in session view, a Push III and a Maschine Mk III, only I am using an Allen and Heath QU 16

    Nice Tip :)
    It's really nice to adjust the bass with an external mixer. Once i did a little gig with selfmade speakers from the owner. They had pressure but they were not balanced very well (to much highs/mids and a little less bass). My DDJ-1000 does not have the option to make master EQ adjusts. So this would have been the perfekt solution :)

    • @gatchmanphoenix1418

      There will be a channel with quarter inch jack inputs (female holes) on the mixer. You should get a quarter inch jack combination meaning left and right on one end that will have a headphone jack on the other end of the wire. Get the appropriate attachment that will fit on the other end of the wire so it will plug into your phone. That is the ideal back up solution in case anything goes wrong with your controller or computer. It will help you keep the party going while you troubleshoot. In many cases you will only need to plug 1 quarter inch jack in Mono (left hole of the mixer in most cases) since your phone is only providing one signal. Hope this helps.

    Would you say having this setup is the same as having the same sound as with controllers that have XLRS?

    • @DJHuckmonkey
      @DJHuckmonkey  2 роки тому +1

      Good question. Generally, controllers with RCAs only don't put out quite as much power as controllers with XLRs, mostly because controllers with RCAs only are usually not as premium quality as ones with XLRs, so their pre-amps aren't quite as good. The sound quality varies between controllers. But what XLRs will do for you over RCAs, is carry a signal over a greater distance with out degrading sound quality. RCAs are very limited how long they can be without picking up interference. Also, a set up like this with an external mixer will add a bit of headroom to your existing controller. In otherwords, it will give you a bit more clean volume, because it has better pre-amps than a more budget friendly controller.
      So short answer, it may or may not give you as high of quality sound as a more premium controller with XLRs, but will most definitly give you better sound quality than a more budget friendly controller with RCAs only.
      Hope that makes sense and helps!

    this is very helpful thankyou! question would you suggest getting this set up or would a dj controller with xlr plugs be better bang for your buck?

    • @DJHuckmonkey
      @DJHuckmonkey  3 роки тому

      I would tend to lean toward a controller with xlr outputs. They are usually higher quality controllers. Having said that, a mixer on the side gives you more control over your system, and can always be useful, especially if you DJ weddings. It's also good to have for backup, so if your controller or laptop goes down, you can plug another source such as your phone into the mixer while you sort out the issue. And on top of that, a dedicated mixer will give you better sound quality and control of your mics. The mic preamps in most controllers are usually not very good.
      So basically, I would recomend a controller with xlr outs, but I would also always recomend a mixer on the side as well, regardless of the controller you choose. This is assuming that you are planning on playing gigs. If just in your home or small parties, then a good controller might be all you need.
      Hope that helps.

If I want to run mono and daisy chain my speakers (separate areas of the bar), would you suggest RCAs to a single 1/4” in the mixer (Left), then just one XLR (Left) out to Speaker 1? Or, is there a setting/switch on the mixer where I can run stereo out of controller to the mixer, then mono out of the mixer? Thanks!!

    • @yyccarportraits
      @yyccarportraits 2 роки тому +1

      Hi Joe, sorry for the late reply. I would set the controller on mono, usually done in the software. Then run both RCA's from the controller to the external mixer. Then both outputs of the mixer will have the same mini sound. Then you can use each output of the external mixer for a different area of you bar, and both will put out the same mono sound. I hope that helps!

      Hi Mike, sorry for the late reply. The main thing is that you don't have any of your levels clipping, or red lining. I would set my controller so that it's slightly below clipping (levels just pushing into yellow, not into red). Then set the external mixer level to suit the room/enviroment, and use that to adjust throughout the set if you need more or less volume. Hope that helps, I'm thinking I'll make a video explaining this

      Since that mixer has 4 xlr inputs, you could just run xlr into the mixer, and still have 2 xlr channels left over for mics. Or you can run from RCA out on your denon to quarter inch or RCA in on the mixer, saving your denon's xlrs for subs and fill speakers at large venues. When running a short distance, it doesn't hurt to use RCA's or quarter inch. So really, you have alot of options, just depends on how you want everything to work, and what kind of set ups you plan on running.
