The TLX type S seems to fail most "enthusiast" car reviews because it doesn't go hard enough. But the reason we like ours is exactly because of that. It's extremely comfortable, smooth over bad road bumps, and has an amazing engine and exhaust note that is not obnoxious. It's the best "normal car" that is really fun to drive. Track-ready cars do not make good daily drivers if you live somewhere with bad roads.
your reviews are so underrated, keep it up!! :) also this is 100% the best looking sedan on the road, it looks so mean especially when it's blacked out with the copper wheels. hope Acura doesnt discontinue the V6!
@Splendid_Lad Lmao, so no other cars had this color scheme before 🤣😂 Hondas were never a Suburu 🤣😂 You see any yellow also 🤣 Why would Honda look like an Ugly ass Suburu 🤔 Does Suburu own those colors 🤣😂 and why did Suburu copy Hinda taillights, sit down 🤣😂
Long live the sedans, what a good looking vehicle ! NOW....for almost 60K, it DOES need at least 30+hp ( I know, not everything is about 0 to 60 and hp figures but c'mon ) it has the platform and awd for it.
4:31 Acura gave you their explanation, and it is the exactly the same explanation Honda Australia have used the past 20+ years especially with their Integra DC5 Type R and Type S variants sold here! TLX and SHAWD badges helps it look more Camaro/Mustangy??
Agreed with the touchpad thing. People want touchscreens. That and some cheaper plastics and weird option availability has made this car a tough sell. As someone who has owned multiple Acura sedans, I so badly wanted this car to be great. It’s not. It’s ok…and that’s sad.
I used to own a 2016 TLX V6 (first gen) when I lived in Florida and it was a good overall car for the price (I got a good lease deal on it). I loved it but it just wasn't as precise as the German cars I had owned. I love the look of the latest TLX Type-S, and I'm glad they brought back the Type-S nomenclature here but I think they missed an opportunity to make it a true RWD sport sedan platform...without that (and a manual option), Acura will never be taken seriously in the performance sedan market, which is slowly dying. 🫠 Acura will always have a special place in my heart, nonetheless ❤
This is a pretty cool car. I think the feature of not locking the keys in the trunk is pretty cool. Also good point that you and the car are both shiny + metallic-y!
the most frustrating part of being an adult car enthusiast? Wanting a manual car with luxury features but forgetting luxury = lazy automatics only. Paddles and simulated shifts are not it.
I've sat in the back of a recent TLX and I can confirm the back seat is TIIINNNNYYYY! Hopefully you can get your hands on an Integra Type S soon for a better comparo between the two
The TLX is really a case study of how *not* to engineer a car. It's bigger than 3-series or A5 or C-class, but tiny inside....for reasons? You'd think a transverse/FWD layout would *increase* packaging efficiency compared to longitudinally mounting the engine like Audi does, but no. It's big, yet small, and weighs a ton because it's big. It's slower than any of it's rivals presumably as a combination of weight and gearing. It doesn't handle particularly well because Acura was afraid of offending anyone with the ride quality, and/or was unwilling to spend the money to properly engineer a suspension that can do both in a shrinking segment. The biggest issue, and the reason why Q50 was an abject failure, and Lexus IS is so old that it that it first appeared in the late Triassic period, is these cars don't sell in Europe, at all. So there isn't the business case to spend the development money on them that the Germans do, because they aren't world market cars. Hence, the half-baked also ran that is the TLX.
“Alphabet Soup”…great way to describe my current frustration with car naming. Most containing the letter X. Loved driving that car…with one small note of annoyance (non-touch screen and track pad)
Awesome video as usual! I have to ask, what do you use for a mic in these outdoor videos? It was amazing how clear you sounded even though you could see it was pretty windy.
Excellent review. It's mind boggling that the TLX has more cramped rear seating than the Integra Type S. So looking forward to the Civic Si and Integra Type S videos. SAVE THE MANUALS!
Great looking car and I came close to buying it. Rear seat legroom was so small, I actually ended up getting a Lexus ES 350 Ultra Luxury trim. Totally different sort of car.
If possible, you should review the ILX and TLX from 2019 (if you haven't already), I would be interested to see the comparision between the driving dynamics how much have changed.
Another solid review! For most people the Integra is the better choice, but for a few this will be a fantastic car to have and for them I am thrilled! 👊🏻🤠
An interesting review of a model people tend to forget about. Acura's "alphabet soup" naming hasn't helped the TLX; the company was wise to revive the Integra name for its more-acclaimed sibling. (Speaking of which, I hope you'll get a chance to review the ITS soon, which would be at the top of my list of cars to consider as a daily if I could afford it.) Also: Kudos for the Erik Satie background music. Maybe you've done it before, but this is the first time I've recognized it. It's a subtle touch appreciated by the two or three of us out there who are interested in both cult 19th century composers and UA-cam car reviews!🤓
Should’ve been a gtr competitor. But trying to chase a luxury market hamstrings what could’ve been fun. If it was just a Honda who would care if it had the same dash as an odyssey or has smaller backseats. Turbo v6 awd sleeper would’ve had a market despite the vapid name
Good points about the price justification and I also wonder why some TLX Type S's get the LED fog lights but this got none. It's the top of the line but has base model vibe's. A tire upgrade to Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar 3's or Michelin Cup2's will bring more road articulation to the steering wheel vs the stock PZeroes. Another awesome Alanis production.
I think it's great for your average person with comfort, power and AWD. I the minority, want a great daily and can hit the track every so often, the choices are limited it saddens me 😭.
You can get a 480 hp Mustang (with a stick if you're into that) for $10K less. They're very different cars with different use case scenarios but still...
The inability to lock keys inside the trunk is old Acura technology. Our first one was my wife's, 1996. Our second Acura was a TL, then RLs, and an MDX. Now looking at an RDX
Great perspective on the merging of the TL and TSX models... I've always thought Acura was dealing with an Indentity Crisis, from the the super ugly grills of the late 2000s and 2010s to whatever the ILX was supposed to be. Acura has turned it around in a big way.
I’ve owned a few Hondas but no Acuras. I’ve always wondered if driving an Acura is like driving a Honda that’s more dialed in for more aggressive driving.
I had a 2023 in this exact color combination. It was such a fantastic car to drive and I even moved halfway across the country in it. Sadly it was stolen (which is happening quite often to these TLX Type-S'). Fuel economy was blah at best and the touchpad is a little finicky but fantastic steering and chassis and the styling is amazing. Sadly won't buy another TLX or Acura again after this experience
I would probably lean G70. I didn’t take the G70 out on this road while I had it because I wasn’t home long enough, so I haven’t driven the G70 hard, but I lean that way for the interior/price/warranty
It seems odd that this is a luxury sport sedan, with luxury pricing, but is still FWD based. If you want a luxury sport sedan, why wouldn't you get a BMW M340i, or the Lexus Alanis mentioned?
I own one. Put the windows down and youll here the exhaust plenty. They added insulation on the inside which is why you dont hear much outside noise at all.
The TLX is a really good-looking car. I wish it was RWD. At that price class, I would opt for an RWD or RWD-biased AWD. FWD and transverse front-engine, IMO, are not premium or competitive. It is not the 1990s Cadillac era anymore.
The Integra Type S ONLY comes in a manual. Only the Integra A-Spec w/Tech has the option of a manual or automatic. The rest of the Integra trims are automatics.
Integra is CVT when it’s not a manual! But yes, when I was talking about it having the option for a manual, I was talking about across the entire trim lineup

If you think their model names are alphabet soup you should look at the model numbers for computer monitors. Vehicles are very easy to differentiate in comparison.
I think the styling of the TLX, both inside and outside, is too close to a Honda Accord. The difference between a Toyota Camry and a Lexus ES or LX is a lot noticible.

Yeah with the IT-S I feel like there is no reason to buy the TLX-S unless you need AWD or don't know how to drive a manual. The IT-S is just as quick as the TLX-S, maybe not from launch because it's FWD but step on it as your cruising and it's just as quick. The IT-S is lighter which usually translate to better handling, and by the way has wider tires. It has more backseat room than the TLX-S. It's more fun and engaging to drive and it gets better MPGs and cost a bit less. With all that being said I'd still get the TLX-S over the IT-S. I just prefer the more mature sporty aggressive look of the TLX-S over the mean, aggressive, sporty boy racer look of the IT-S, although the driver in me loves to manually bang through the gears 😅 plus it sounds better.
@AlanisKing 😁 yeah I miss my boy racer good ol days, but my preference has changed since. I still want sport, but more like sport luxury, my favorite segment.
The only thing I like about this car is the color, im sure its a nice car but its just not exciting. Acura is still for old people who have their sht together 😂.
Regardless of actual performance this is one of the best looking modern sedans.

interior is questionable. too bad

$58k for 355 hp is absolutely ridiculous
The price of everything scares me tbh
But you get 4,200lb. 😂
if you’re spending 58k for hp you’re also not usually looking for a 4200 pound sedan…especially one from honda
So get an M3 for $67K.
