I would choose the Type S despite its shortcomings. I wish it were a bit faster, had more backseat room and had a touchscreen but none of those would deter me from getting it. It’s a beautiful car to me and I think I would thoroughly enjoy driving it as a daily.
It is a great commuter car and marginal sport sedan. As long as you understand that it excels at nothing, then it seems like a decent purchase. Albeit overpriced at that point.
Gents, absolutely fantastic! I can't recall another review that provided such an objective and insightful comparison. I used to own Honda/Acura for most of my life and then took a chance on a 2019 G70 3.3T - fell in love with it! I now have a 2023 G70 3.3T because the 2019 was so great. I now have a better appreciation for the other two cars as well. Thanks for that!
Good discussion. I bought an Audi S5 Sportback because it has some edginess to the performance while still delivering a decent ride in comfort mode. I love the styling and the interior that still has real buttons and knobs. The back seat is decent for this class of cars which is important to me, and the hatchback is quite handy. The M340 is the undisputed top performance car. I wanted the B58 but the car is too hardcore for my tastes. Matt has the (better) pre-LCI interior with buttons instead of the current generation touch screens that I don't care for. Even though the TLX is beautiful, I eliminated it because of the push button shifter and horrible touch pad. Some people say you get used to it. I'm not spending this kind of money so I can tolerate a poor design (my opinion) every time I get into the car.
Perfectly valid, but the reality is that within a couple of weeks, you’d literally no longer be aware of it. It would become muscle memory very quickly and then not even noticeable. That being said, definitely would say that the S5 isn’t a fantastic alternative.
Drove my dads Rdx with the exact same system and it’s very easy, didn’t even take me longer then 15 minutes to figure out how it worked, my main dislikes with the tlx is the lower horsepower, and heavier weight, and lower mpg, other then that it’s THE best sport sedan (in my opinion of course) but even if this thing stayed same horsepower and weight, if it’s not gonna be incredibly fast then I should at least be getting high 25-30 mpg, I’ve heard story’s of people even getting 15-20mpg average and that’s too low for a car of this horse power and speed
S5 sport back is an under-appreciated choice. I love the hatch practicality and the ride is sublime AND it’s still quick enough while looking fantastic
@Malinois130 So far it's been awesome! I can't wait for the spring so I can get my summer tires and wheels on so I can really push it. I love everything about this car, great power, great driving dynamics and great looks!
I own a 22 Type S... Like they said, ride quality is more luxurious as it does not beat you up as a daily driver. Suggestion for getting more performance, upgrade to a PRL intercooler and charge pipes for improved pedal response. Also by adding a PRL intercooler, the car runs 9 degrees cooler.(a BIG Deal)...Once my warranty is up I will upgrade to IMR's primary and secondary downpipes which turns this car into a totally different beast. Biggest PROS: Interior layout and my Tiger Eye Pearl exterior. Biggest CONS: Poor, poor MPG - come on Acura SHAME on you! Also, they cut corners on those BREMBO brakes - they should have installed cross drilled and or slotted rotors to handle those 4 Piston Brembos - at 12k miles my rotors had significant hot spots and had to be swapped. This is a common problem across many forums... Not cool for a $58K auto...
I'd take G70 3.3T. It's just there's nothing like it out there. And you get so much more for your money. It's the only car out of all these that comes with 4 brembos. It looks very unique. While bmw looks like every bmw and tlx type S looks like every acura just slightly beefed up. The tlx type S has a nice aggressive front but over all to me it's just too long and not proportional. The bmw and G70 are true rwd sport sedans .
Spot on. You covered the EXACT same points I was considering when shopping for a new sedan. I ended up buying G70 but it was a tough choice. I was considering 4 cars: the three covered in this vid and also the tesla model 3 performance.
I think the G70 has a nice looking ass. It looks tightly packed and curvy. Then comes the TLX with it's sharper, muscular more aggressive looking ass. Then the BMW.
Sounds like the Acura just needs a good TUNE that would push it over the limited bounds that it now holds. Money wise, it would still give that money in your pocket thing considering reliability, performance and luxury. Could be as you said, the happiest medium. I'd take one!!!
That’s what I’ve done, and it is a night and day difference! Love my Type S Taken out G70s and Stinger GTs, love the thing. Most people understandably do not just tune their cars right out of the box. 😅
The Tlx is only missing about 1.4 inches of legroom to stand against a 5 series. Less headroom is a given but the tlx does offer more front legroom at 42.4 vs the 5 series 41.4. Thinner seats would likely add into more legroom for the tlx.
First off, all hail king M340i, there is no doubt about that. I drove the 2022 M340i before I drove, and ultimately bought, a 2022 RWD 3.3T G70. Cost aside, the M340i is better at everything but one fairly important thing. The M340i is NOT a better cruising luxury ride than a G70 because it is stiff even in the softest suspension setting. As awesome as the M340i is, when you just want to chill, which let's be real is the VAST majority of our driving, the G70 wins. And the G70 is still a little beast, especially when paddle shifting in sport + mode. One has to ask themselves, does all the M340i offer over the G70 really worth less comfortable cruising ride that cost significantly more with half the warranty? I did not find it to be so. As far as TLX Type S, you really have to see it in person to appreciate how it looks, but the rest, meh.
I have driven all three and have an M340. By far, and I mean by far, the M340 is the only car that will suprise you with the performance. However, I agree that the steering on the G70 is superb and is the ideniable best buy amongst the three. The Acura is a weird car. Meh acceleration, understeers unless you slam the throttle down and even then, you are just barely balancing the weight out. It has poor tech in comparison. If you have the means, get the M340 and it will shock you at how good it is. If cash is an issue, get the G70 as it soundly trounces the Acura which is more money.
Thanks guys! Bought a 2020 stinger GT line turbo 4 2 years ago and love it! Living in Reno with RWD I trade out the All Seasons for continentals winters and get around pretty OK. Love the 15 speaker Harmon Kardin tunes! Easy 35MPG on long trips!
Get the G70. It is a great car! The only cons about it is the trunk size and rear seat leg room. Trust me, you will not be disappointed. The G70 is right there with my Q50 RS. The G70 is also faster than the Stinger.
Special thanks to our Patreons for their support of the channel! Which sport sedan are you taking home?
I would choose the Type S despite its shortcomings. I wish it were a bit faster, had more backseat room and had a touchscreen but none of those would deter me from getting it. It’s a beautiful car to me and I think I would thoroughly enjoy driving it as a daily.
I love my Type S. Perfect combination of handling, build quality, and power.
It is a great commuter car and marginal sport sedan. As long as you understand that it excels at nothing, then it seems like a decent purchase. Albeit overpriced at that point.
I pick the Acura TLX Type S out of all 3.
Love this video, i feel like you guys are super objective bout all 3. I want the TLX and this video made me more certain
thanks! glad this video was helpful to you!

Touch pad isn't bad at all honestly.
340 any day
Acura hands down..in person it looks exotic
I just bought a 2023 Genesis G70 awd 3.3l, being delivered in a few days cant wait for it.
How are you liking it so far?

ahhh interesting - what stopped you going the Tesla route?
How do you like it so far?
M340i is truly the king of its class of luxury sedans. Acura looks really good but id take the m340
I think the G70 has a nice looking ass. It looks tightly packed and curvy. Then comes the TLX with it's sharper, muscular more aggressive looking ass. Then the BMW.
1:20 it’s a twin scroll single turbo, similar to the B58. Not a twin turbo.
Love the Acura

That g70 is very nice for the price i would get the g70
Agree with everything except the Type S is too racer boy looking. BMW and Genesis much more refined with sport.
Throw in the CT5-V for me.
100%%%%%
Really wish CT5-V was discussed more
Did the TLX encounter a pot hole? 4:16 at the 11 o clock position on the tire..

This is 3 Midsize Sedan, Right?
The 3 series and G70 are compact sedans.
The tlx is the only midsized sedan here.
I Know
In reliability the TYPE S wins for sure
BMW will be the only one not discontinued.
Honda already working on a next gen, they scrapped the idea of using a 11th accord platform for a new tlx which got leaked.
