The 2024 Acura TLX Type S Is An Undervalued Performance Luxury Sport Sedan
Вставка
- Опубліковано 2 чер 2024
- Just a few years since #Acura gave the latest TLX a full redesign, it gets its first refresh for 2024. The changes made this year are subtle, but welcomed. The #AcuraTLX and the higher performance #TLXTypeS represents a nice middle ground between a compact and midsize sport luxury sedan. The #TypeS in particular though, represents a strong value in its class, undercutting the competition in price by thousands of dollars.

Happy Tuesday everyone! We started this channel 12 years ago and today is the day we finally hit 1 Million subscribers! Thank you so much for all your support throughout all these years. This channel began with reviewing mostly Japanese import brands so it’s benefitting that this milestone is celebrated with the posting of this 2024 Acura TLX Type S review. Hope you all have an amazing day and we can’t wait to show you all that’s coming in the new year! ❤
Many congratulations, Sofyan and crew! Indeed, your 2theredline honda reviews and your focus st review way back when were what led me to getting one myself and the fam a honda!
Another 12 yrs to get 2 millions
I’ve been watching you for years and I’m so, so happy for you brother!!
Kudos & congratulations on a well deserved milestone - I still remember first following you back then when I had an Infiniti G and you reviewed a manual spec; thanks for all you do in such an innovative industry. 🔥
Congrats! What was the very first review???
I remember a lot of Honda back in the day.
My 2021 tlx type s has 48K km on it now, it is one of the most good looking car on the street with decent power. I love it !
What are the competitors?
Congrats on the 1 million man. Your reviews are always well paced and well made.
1M subscribers -- well deserved man! Thank you for another great review.
One thing I always love about Acura is its styling! As far as everything else, that's up for debate
As a Honda/Acura fan boy I agree! This newer TLX does has tasteful update but the infotainment until needs to be touchscreen.
Right, me and my wife thinking about getting the MDX, coming from a BMW X5 I’m sure it’ll be worth it
@@miguelvega7769it’s not my business why buying a x5 know they are the biggest money pit once they get older I’ll take a base mdx over x5 they drive almost the same but I know the x5 is just a little better but not worth the money
@@TheRoyalking761 agreed, using a mouse pad like interface seems really annoying to use. Use the accord like system where you get the touchscreen, but with the audio feedback on clicks!
@miguelvega7769 it's all about value, BMW X5 is more nice and has more bells and whistles yes. The MDX is that sweet spot on options and price plus low cost of maintenance vs a german automobile. Look into a type s mdx and see if you want that sporty look
1M subscribers!! Congrats, it’s well deserved!!!🎉
Perfect video for the 12th anniversary of Redline Reviews 👏👏 can’t believe it’s been 12 years since Sofyan started the channel, when it was just him doing used car reviews but look at where he is now with his team 👏👏 1 million subscribers is well deserved, and I hope nothing but the best for the future of Redline Reviews 👏👏
@@Brian_Eugene_LeeI know but wanted to acknowledge how far this channel has come since the beginning. Note that I didn’t say 12 years today. Just 12 years in general.
Congrats on your 1m subscribers. Been with you from the start, well done to you and the team. You all work so hard, enjoy your reviews so much. Well deserved, Sofyan.
Congrats on 1 millions subscribers! 🎉 Your channel has come a long way! I’d have to say your channel is one the best one when it comes to to auto reviews and giving us superb content! Congrats Sofyan and team! 👍
Congrats on 1 million subs. I've been watching your videos for quite a while. Well deserved!!!
Awesome that today is your anniversary. Congrats on the Million subscribers club. This TLX - I like it - a great looking car, and best in it's class to my eyes. Thanks for the in depth insights into what is too often an overlooked marque as people are pulled into overspending on pricey German marques with questionable value after a 4 year lease term. I know a man who travels for his job over 100K a year, and has had a fleet of full size Acuras for 2 years at a time since they came out. And he has never had a service issue, not ever. Well made, reliable, safe and great handling cars will always be in demand. Thanks, Acura, for keeping buttons in the cabin.
Congrats on a million subs!! Huge milestone - keep up the great work :)
Congrats on the one mill & well deserved 👏🏾 💯🤙🏾🎉 been a subscriber off ripp & love the channel
🎉🎉1 million!!! 🎉🎉 I remember following you when you made your 2006 Infiniti M35 video (I wanted to get one) you had the best review then and still do now lol. Congratulations Bro!🍾
I love the fact that your hard work paid off. Thank you for all your videos
Congrats on the 1M! Well deserved for sure. Keep up the great work.
Congrats on one million! I remember when you were reviewing cars directly at the dealership!
You guys always produce fantastic videos.
Congratulations on 1 million!
Yeah! 1 million! Well deserved so happy and proud of everyone at redline 🎉
I have a 2023 TLX Type S, loving it..i actually like the touch pad more...was tired of the finger prints from touch screen...always getting compliments on it...Acura reliability will be so much better than other luxury brands and can't forget 2 years of free complimentary maintenance.
Finally someone not complaining about the damn screen ! I don’t even own this car and the touch pad doesn’t seem that bad. Looks like something once you get used to using etc it’s nice. And like you said finger prints can get annoying on the screen
Once you get past the 1 to 2 week learning curve, the touch pad is actually less distracting to use than a touch screen. Less reaching and no fingerprints. Owners know this, reviewers don't.
@@TheBreakfastLover totally agree! The touchpad is way easier to use than stretching to the screen. For me, no distractions while driving. How to write a fair review after having a vehicle for a couple of hours only? What about steering? Unique design with a taste? Everyone is tired seeing RT, BMW, Audi. My black Type S looks like a space ship in a crowd of other cars. Gets looks all the time. SH-AWD allows to pass most of the RWD "fast" cars on the wet pavement.
correction is 24 moths or 24k miles wicth comes first
congrats on a million subscribers!! been watching ur reviews since i was 15! stumbled on ur channel trying help find my parents an suv
You're an OG on UA-cam! 1M subscribers is well deserved! BIG CONGRATS!!!!

The 2015 TLX wasn’t a refresh, that was its debut.
Congratulations On 1 Million Views! I love your reviews! 🎉

CONGRATULATIONS!!!
ONE MILLION SUBSCRIBERS!!
WOW!!
But you guys deserved it.
Earned it.
Not only do you inform and entertain, but you help a lot of viewers make choices in which vehicle to purchase.
Because, except for a house, buying a car, is generally, the most expensive purchase most people will make in their lifetime.
You certainly helped me decide which car to buy.
On 2018, I was ready to replace my 2000 Nissan Sentra.
Was looking at both the Camry XSE and the Honda Accord 2.0T.
Both cars are outstanding.
I test drove both cars.
But it was after watching your review of the 2018 Honda Accord, that made me decide, to buy the Honda.
One of the best buys that I ever made.
Again, CONGRATULATIONS!! and thank you for all your hard work.
Millions of people appreciate it.
I certainly do.
I love my '21 Accord Touring 2.0T too!
Congrats on 1 million subs Sofyan!! Well done :)
The styling of these are gorgeous! Also, 1 MILLION subscribers! WOOHOO!!!!

I hope Acura makes a RDX TYPE S
We’ve been waiting for that too. It would do really well, come on Acura!
You are my favorite car journalist...I love your jokes. I see why so many subscribe...you just have appeal and your videos are high quality and very detailed!!!@@theredline
RDX Type S is on the way!
Exactly, it’s so frustrating. It would be the best Type S model in their lineup.
Finally 1M subs congrats!
Great review! Straightforward, no dog and pony show.
Yes, that is a great comment
400 hp, an updated center stack with a proper touchscreen + shifter and also heated rear seats would make it perfect. More interior room and less weight would help too.
That TouchPad needs to go for sure. If all they changed was that, I'd be sold. But more horsepower would be amazing especially at the price point
Perfect and more expensive.
@@dany91307I believe it’s been confirmed touch pad is going away for next year’s Model along with getting rid of ELS sound system

Great video. I was checkin out Lexus IS’ today and pulled behind one of these TLX and my jaw dropped!
Audi A5 Sportback as well. Today was a good day 😁
Bruh I just feel like the type S should get at least 405hp min man. Like cmon Acura, wake tf up
Facts the competition is way ahead of them in terms of hp
Its much chaper than its competitors tho
@@joa4613folks not buying performance cars to save money though. People will buy what they like and want. There is a reason why one would spend the extra for the Type S over the Aspec. Folks will spend the extra money for better performance.
Um u can tune it to your liking 😅 405 hp lol
Dude it goes 0-60 in 4.7 seconds if thats not fast enough for you then idk what is.

Congratulations to the best car review channel on UA-cam......you deserve the one million subscribers
Congrats on 1 million you deserve it 🎊 🎉
Been watching you since the beginning man. Congrats! If you can, do a review on the Cybertruck!
I have a 2023 and love it, although I agree with you on the back seat. A heated steering wheel comes standard in Canada for some reason, which is nice. For me, the SHAWD system is a must have because it is so much fun in the corners.
Congratulations again man you deserve it!!
Congratulations redline team @1 million great work
I’ve owned two of these. I had a 2021 Type S and now drive a 2022 model. Will be waiting for the 24s to arrive and will be trading mine in for this. My experience with the car over 50k miles and 3 years has been nothing but phenomenal. Turns so so so many heads and nothing looks and sounds as good for this price.
For real! I have a 22 and it’s the best car I’ve owned! Funny how this car gets so much hate on the internet but in person gets so much attention with no hate at all 🤣
people just care about 0-60
lol, you’re high. Audis and BMWs sound and look better than that bloated Honda. Who trades for a 22, then a 24 of the same car? Literally every car in its segment smokes it. Another fail by Acura, but you jdm guys think they’re the superior car.
@@HorrisPMcTitties looks are subjective man, not objective . I think tlx looks better than a 3 series or an audi. To each their own.mm
@@HorrisPMcTitties Audi and BMW are better brands, but the TLX type S is better than a BMW 3 Series and a bloated Jetta (A4)
Congratulations on hitting one million!

Congrats been watching for about that long
great review as always , glad to see you made the 1M mark. she is a beauty to my eye. one thing i noticed is folks keep saying no fog lights. these new cars have the adaptive led lights. IMO that makes fog lights unnecessary . fog lights do add that "cool look" factor indeed.
Congrats on the 1 million milestone!
Congrats on hitting 1 million subs
That off-idle 0-60 without building revs is very impressive for a turbo car.
Agreed, 0-60 from idle is the better real world acceleration metric. People get too hung up on magazine, brake-torqued 0-60 times.
@@layne4376trap speed tests are done with brake-torquing at launch, so your comment is non-sensical.
@@layne4376 wrong, using launch control will result in a faster trap speed, as peak velocity is NOT reached by the 1/4-mile.
@@layne4376 you clearly didn't read my reply. In short, using launch control gives a jump on acceleration off the line, thus faster trap speed by the end of the 1/4-mile.
The only time you'd be correct is if top speed is reached before the end of the 1/4- mile.
One of the few cars I like with black wheels. It looks great with the new gray.
I'm actually surprised you got that high mpg on the Type S. People on Fuelly are reporting 17-18mpg. Some complain about the weight but I think it helps the car feel a lot more planted if you want more of a sporty cruiser type feel. Also eliminates a lot of road noise.
4,300 is absolutely not beneficial for a sports sedan. Plenty of cars at 3,600 - 4,000 are better performing and plenty stable on the road. Optimal compared to the Acura
The reason I started following this channel was because of your TSX
Thanks SB! Always a pleasure to see another TLX Type S review. This is still an underrated Gem, but yes it is quite weighted. So far, no one has ever explained why Honda had to have so much weight versus the competitors. I know Honda's typical answers are safety reliability and endurance, but Can we interview Honda/Acura to have them explain why they couldn't do that, the same way the others do in this segment. This would propel this vehicle to the top of the class if they just worked on that in addition to letting the manual transmission leave it to the driver to shift at least while in the Type S setting? I look forward to an honest answer and someday a response to this everlasting question. Thanks again....
Congrats Sofyan & this will be my dream car.
This would be perfect for me. Beautiful interior, I actually have always loved the look of the infotainment area of the acuras. You have reliability unlike the German counterparts and it’s got plenty power for me. Perfect highway cruiser. CONGRATS ON 1MILL l!! You deserve it. 👍🏻
agreed, i loved it before and waited out for the refresh and they added everything i wanted it to have for 2024, i'll be buying one soon
Good video, Sofyan. Built with pride in Marysville, Ohio.
Seems like the best overall performance Sedan, considering the looks. I suspect Acura held back on the turbo for longevity.
If they put more Boost in that complex machine, there's no doubt the TLX would be at an advantage with SH-AWD and it's suspension.
You know the Japanese put reliability 1st before anything else. Hence their interiors still have a host of buttons unlike putting everything in the infotainment.
I agree it will not as long cause they know people gonna drive them hard
Congrats on 1 million and the 2024 TLX refresh is an improvement
Own a 2021 TLX A-Spec - have driven 45k and love every bit of it.Have received so many compliments over the years. The performance Red I own looks like a dream. I’m sure type-s would be even more fun.
Congratulations. You earned it!
I dont think this one competes with the top tier Germans at all. More so with Stinger , G70, Infiniti q50 red. Nice looks though and if compared properly, pricing is just okay. Also, when comparing S4 Quattro , M340i Xdrive and c43 4 matic for performance and feel SH-AWD is a 2nd best , not to mention fuel economy and potential reliability issues with fairly new 10 speed and turbo 6. Germans for better or worse have mastered that art with compromises and whether pricing is justified or not they are better in every aspect so it is assumed quality costs more .Hence these cars should not be put in the same category but perhaps I missed something. Kia/hyundai and Mazda are doing great filling the gaps between these tiers. I think that is a class of its own where Acura belongs for now. Great content, thank you !
I think pricing is pretty good personally, under 60 grand for the equipment it offers and sub-5 second 0-60 times is pretty good - Only the forgotten Cadillac CT5-V presents itself as a potentially better value in this segment since it has similar performance and features for a little less money.
I absolutely love the TLX and integra type S and for some reason barely anyone has them. I've seen like 1 on the road. All it was missing was a cool digital dash that the last one didnt have and now it has one..perfect car idk what anyones gripe is with it
I just bought a 2023 TLX Type-S in October 2023. Had I known about the the upcoming improvements, I would've definitely waited for the 2024's. For the money, Acura is lagging behind a lot of vehicles with this TLX Type-S. For one, this car should have at least 400 HP and twin turbos, but I'll purchase a tune to fix that. At almost $60K a heated steering wheel is a dealer installed accessory. I own a 2020 Ford Explorer ST and this SUV came loaded with every available option for its trim level, at about the same price. And it's faster than the TLX and MDX Type-S. With that said, a digital dashboard took like 3 years to find its way in the Type-S since it was refreshed in 2021. It also has less interior room than its Honda Accord cousin.. I love the way this vehicle drives and looks, but the performance needs a much needed boost. If I didn't lease mine, I'd for sure get a 2024 model.
The 2024 is a little quicker due to a trans update. 4.6 to 60 and 13.3 in the 1/4.
This could have been my car, too bad Acura dealers in my area insisted on a $5k markup. Bought an M340i and I’m honestly happier with it than I think I would have been with the Acura
Can't say you made a bad choice that's for sure
@@djsthemetereman agreed, especially for what was essentially the same price. For $7000 less as the TLX Type S should have been, I think I would have been fine
@@richiejrich Yeah not smart on the dealership part to continue to mark these cars up they're just gonna continue to lose sales
Well see if u still happy after 5years when you have to play for the heavy maintenance Sir
@@djsthemetereman they treated the TLX type s like it was a limited edition NSX. Telling me the mark up was justified as it was a limited production vehicle
Honestly this Acura TLX actually reminds me of the kIA stinger which in my view was a very good vehicle
CHEERS🍻 to 1M Sofyan and team!!!!!
As for the car, I love the careful massaging that Acura did with the exterior. The grille is cleaner and the standard wheel is definitely an upgrade. My main gripes remain the infotainment(I would've even kept the old gauge cluster to budget for a new dash to bring the screen closer), tight rear seat, smallish trunk, and for the price, a heated steering wheel should be standard. Oh and about that weight: My 2021 Charger Hellcat Redeye weighs
Who?
Such a great looking vehicle & grateful Acura brought back the Type-S; for the money I believe it’s a great proposition, but also wished it had ~45 more horsepower as the more aggressive trim of the TLX considering “regular spec’d models” such as the G70 (365) and IS500 (472) exist in the lower space.
Who cares. It’s plenty fast.
They had to keep cost low some how because if they added more power which seem to be the most common complaint it would cost like $65k+. overall it’s a tank solid car except the infotainment system it needs a touch screen
It's fast enough for a sport luxury sedan. Looks more badass than the competition too.
Glorious sounding Giant Quad Exhaust pipes!
This car is completely undervalued when you think about where it competes price wise.. when you take price out of the picture the M340i just looks like the better option. I was hoping for a power increase and weight reduction
True, but it's worth noting the TLX somehow overcame its weight and horsepower disadvantages and managed to tie the M340i's lap time at MotorTrend.
And MotorTrend is not thoroughly pleased with this refresh after reading their piece of this vehicle today.
@@JT-fq2bl it's strange as Car&Driver's review is the opposite, praising the driving dynamics and value.
@TheBreakfastLover I've read their review too, and I find their credibility compromised as of late where a lot of their articles leave me scratching my head.
Bruh. I had a 2019 TLX ASPEC and it is just a sexy car. I’ve had Q60, Mercedes GLC , and BMW 540i and I STILL want my Acura back.
Planning to go pick up a 2021 or newer TLX aspec
It might not be the fastest, but it is the nicest looking one
🎉 CONGRATULATIONS and Acura needs you at headquarters because Who is making these decisions on Tech and features. Add a panoramic roof, give the backseat at least 3 more inches of space, pull that screen forward and make it a touchscreen, make it a mild hybrid at least, and give it power tilt and telescoping steering wheel.
This and the G70 are huge bargains in Canada they’re 10-15k CAD less than the competition IS500, M340i, S4 etc. I have no idea why they priced it so close to the competition in the US
I wouldn’t say that much. I almost ordered a 2024 TLX type S. High 70’s CAD and horrible 8-9% interest rates on Acuras. You can get a really nicely optioned M340i for that price and have twice the car. They needed to give this another 100hp to make it comparable to a M340i, S4, G70 etc. high 13’s in the 1/4 mile is brutal for that price tag.
Almost everything that you were saying, you wished Acura had done costs money. I for one am glad they held back because I was able to spec one of these from my local dealer for under 60 K.
Great stuff. I love my 2018 TLX A-Spec V6, except my engine is part of Honda's recall. Is this new engine now part of the "Stop Sell" recall? I never thought Honda's V6 would be an issue, having bought Accord V6 vehicles since 2006 & Accords in general since 1995. Still Honda makes a great product.
Great review, exciting car. Please tell me you can change the start-up chime though.
Great review as always. I agree that the Type S should have just a little more pop. Another 40-50 HP would put it in line with its rivals.
i dont mean to impede but what are you using to film this its clean and smooth
This is a great review. As the owner of a 2018 TLX Advance, it's nice to be able to contrast the two and decide if I'm going to step into a second gen TLX. I'm 5'11" and seeing how you fit in the car, I'm not sure I'd be comfortable in a second gen TLX. Do you think Acura could use the current Accord as the platform to bring back the Vigor or the RLX nameplates? I think for those of us who don't want an SUV, Acura needs to lengthen the TLX or give us a longer and taller sedan, that's better than the old RLX.
I have a 2016 tlx, not sure what the next gen tlx would be like. I hope it wont be all electric... hybrids are fine.
@mitch20003 2015-2020 is the first gen TLX. I prefer V6 sedans, and I perform most services and repairs on our cars. So, a hybrid doesn't necessarily appeal to me. Not sure I'm up to learning to repair a hybrid powertrain.
I remember the first time I saw a 2007 TL type S, what a car… aged so well ❤
That 3rd generation TL Type S is such a timeless vehicle ☺️ it’s one of Acura’s best vehicles they ever made
Acura truly nails it with the styling every. single. time. This is one of the most stunning sedans on the market.
can you review the 2024 lexus ls 500 it has some great update from the 2023 model but I'm still waiting on the tx 500 or 500h review
But great review on the TLX Type S
Enjoy the million subscribers, no everyone hit that number reviewing cars. Congrats
This car is actually on the Pirelli Cinturatos which is their “all weather” tire that’s more focused on winter weather driving. The standard all-season tire is the P7 AS, which probably has more dry grip.
Congratulations!
Great review. I wish Acura turned up the wick to ten for the Type S. I understand why they did so, but in the process, left a vehicle thats about 8/10ths there. Another 25-30hp, about a 300lb weight reduction, and a little increase in turbo induction, this would be a killer vehicle. But then again those changes could warrant another $5000 or so. I just wonder sometimes why Acura didn't use the 3.5 Engine for the type S? I'm no engineer, but I think it would have a better exhaust note, could withstand more boost, and have better integrity.
The 3.5 as in a turbocharged version of the j35?
They did the right thing by not using that motor to be honest. The j35 in the first gen TLX was a ticking time bomb that blew rods left right and center.
