I’m gonna be honest y’all, this video missed the mark. Normally I love your videos, they really helped me on my mission (in New England where this film takes place) but this one felt incredibly biased against the movie, to the point it got key details about it wrong. Sister Paxton didn’t die, nor did she lose her faith, she also didn’t say that she was “just casually watching p**n the other day”, it was clearly meant to be a past experience that she accidentally admitted to. Either way I don’t see how it’s out of the realm of possibility for a sister missionary to talk about something like that. I heard plenty of elders admit to things that were 10 times worse on my mission. In my opinion this film did more to humanize missionaries and members of our church than any other film I’ve watched has. I liked that the sisters weren’t “perfect members” because it added depth to their characters and made them feel like actual breathing humans. Like it or not there are a ton of missionaries in our church just like them and judgmental videos like these only serve to push them away. I guess I’m just not seeing how this film was antagonistic towards the church. Sure the character of Mr. Reed is anti-religion but he is clearly the villain, I feel like this video’s assertion that the writers are using his character as their mouthpiece is just flat out incorrect. The two sister missionaries are the MAIN characters and they are treated as such. They are shown to be intelligent, empathetic, and resourceful. He also never convinces either of them to ditch their faith I have no clue where you guys got that from the movie, Sister Paxton literally says a prayer at the end of the movie, despite having reservations about prayer she does it anyway… in my opinion that’s faith… believing even when you have a lot of reasons not to. In conclusion I’m disappointed by the lack of critical thought that went into this video. It felt like the LDS version of Mr. Reeds board game analogy in the ways that it lacked nuance and simplified critical details. I hope that next time you guys do a video like this it will have more effort put into it.
@@Rmurtube thank you for taking the time to write out this comment, you echoed a lot of my frustrations with the video in here. It’s disappointing to see the lack of nuance present in this video that I feel is usually there in other saints unscripted videos
I 10000% agree with this. I was impressed by the movies nuance and pleased to see it didn’t just punch down on Mormons and actually left the question of true miracles up to interpretation of the viewer at the end- directly contradicting the main villain.
@@Rmurtube I strongly agree with this. This video was far from a fair or even accurate analysis of the film. This was not an anti-Mormon film. I think it is spectacular to have lds missionaries as the protagonists of an A24 horror flick.
What are y’all talking about? She doesn’t lose her faith at the end… Were you just primed to think this was anti Mormon?? The sisters held to belief the whole time and were the protagonists of the movie.
She sort of seems to lose her faith in the moment when she says, "Prayer doesn't work." But I think she does keep to her faith because she chooses to pray anyway. The ending is kind of up to interpretation though (e.g. does she see the butterfly or not? Is she dead or not?).
@ her thoughts around prayer represent a common struggle in theism - why would God heal this person and not that person; why would God answer this prayer and not that prayer. Nothing about Mr. Reed led the missionary to this conclusion. Mr. Reed lacks the nuance and balance to understand a viewpoint like that. She had come to the conclusion before this that prayer might not *work* in the sense of healing or saving people physically consistently, but she finds value in prayer anyway. And you’re right, she prays to Heavenly Father right then. I have a hard time seeing this as some sort of win for Mr. Reed.
@@beetles1964yes it’s kinda up to your interpretation.. in my head canon she didn’t die because That makes it where Hugh Grant was killed by the mircale he promised .. a woman raising from the dead
100% I served a mission and apart from the very first scene (which I kind of agree with him on) they nailed pretty much everything about how missionaries behave
I thought the movie was awesome. I’m a member, both me and my wife both served missions. I served in three different missions due to Covid, and war in my second mission so I got to see different mission cultures in three different countries. I thought they did a fantastic job showing how missionaries are Baptisms are totally portrayed as just a number throughout the mission, and missionaries definitely share intimate details of their lives with their companions. I think the first scene was weird, but was trying to quickly show who the characters are. One being not totally aware of the normal lingo of sexual situations but still being curious and naive, while the other obviously was a bit more aware. Overall it just makes one, no matter what their belief is, kind of just question what they believe. Whether atheist, Christian or whatever. I agree with some of the other comments y’all came into the review with a negative outlook on a pretty well put together film. My wife and I will post our own review on my channel, if anyone wants to see a different point of view also from members, stay tuned on my channel.
It has a 93% rating with critics on Rotten Tomatoes. Seems the critics really dig it. I think that may reveal more about them than it does the movie though.
I encourage you all to watch this movie before forming your own opinion. I got a completely different view of this movie. I think the way the sisters are portrayed was very accurate and their characters were whole with complex thoughts and opinions. This review is extremely simplified and seen through the lense of "this movie is out to get me." Go in with an open mind. It doesn't pick a side. I thought it was great. Make your own opinion :)
14:49 hey so this is really insane and disappointing to listen to. You’re making a baseless claim about the writers, making them out to be groomers because they wrote an evil character, because you disliked the movie. It doesn’t matter what you think about the movie, this claim is disgusting and doesn’t reflect how Latter-Day saints should judge other people.
Exactly. Very disappointing. Coming from church members who are suppose to be Christlike yet have no care towards respecting and caring for a young person of their faith who took on a very difficult role to make sure it was done right. Zero credibility in reviewing a film you haven’t seen. Or commenting on a film you agent seen. Spreading false info without thinking it through because someone uses the word “ reportedly “
The producer is ex LDS, the two girls playing the sisters were LDS at some point too. So they know what they're doing. This seems just the evolution of anti-LDS exmo content.
Yep. Hilarious rumors of who’s a member is so wrong and spreads with UA-cam’s like this. Plus obviously the costumes are costumes never ever would use anything real never real garments. that would be wrong which did not happen so east assured with people getting into a tizzy. Watch the real interviews.
The way it depicts our faith is akin to an amateur film. Even Deseret News was compelled to write an article about it, and the church released a statement on how they keep missionaries safe. This movie isn't the Saratov Approach. This isn't a film about our faith, where the antagonists are as complicated as the protagonists. Where bad things happen to good people, and the light of Christ shines to protect. This is a movie where the missionaries are breaking their own standards, before the inciting event happens, and our beliefs are treated as set dressing. There are good movies about traumatic events and faith. This isn't one of them.
@FourofSix you realize anyone can just... Say that? Right? It depicted the missionaries as interested in sexual sin, and disrespectfully referenced our temple garments. If that is "spot on" to you, you must be on something
@FourofSix so, as a Grandma over 68 years old, what was your favorite part of the movie? When the missionaries lose their faith, or when they're killed? Nice attempt at trolling here, but this and other posts in this string don't ring genuine, but nice try.
@@oshawott4544 the church doesn't always keep missionaries safe. Sometimes they get held at gunpoint. A missionary was murdered in my husband's mission.
After reading a lot of reviews, it really seems like the furthest depth of the writer's research for Hugh Grant's dialogue was looking through the top posts on r/atheism and skimming the CES Letter, and the actresses' main motivation in taking and performing these roles was to paint them as naive and repressed and opressed in every sense. And then the second half of the movie is just a ripoff of the much better movie Barbarian. In other words, a complete waste of time, especially for Latter-day Saints.
Personally, I think it’s really, REALLY nice of Hugh Grant and the rest of these people, the writers, other actors, etc. to let me know that they don’t need any more of my money. Super considerate. High five to all of them.
Same could be said of the church. They don’t need your money, yet they ask you to clean their toilets and pay for your YW camp fees amongst many other things. If you haven’t looked up the church’s net worth, real estate and businesses they own, your tithes only really pays/guarantees your worthiness for a temple recommend. Just something to think about.
This is the most accurate and sympathetic depiction of the missionaries I've seen in mass media and the villain is a caricature of an amoral and jaded atheist. I don't know what more you'd want here.
Yeah, I was concerned it would be an atheist ex-mormon 'religion is bad, belief is stupid, deconstruction is smart!' kind of movie. This review more or less confirmed my suspisions.
That’s an inaccurate interpretation of the movie. The girls maintain their faith. And Paxton is saved by what one could interpret as being a miracle. The girls outsmart him and remain independent.
A Quiet Place kind of falls apart when you think about it for more than a few seconds. Like these monsters are supposed to have super hearing, they click like bats to navigate... they should be able to "see" with their ears just like bats. But instead they behave like kids in a swimming pool playing marco polo
Ugh... sounds like they do the same that makes me think that many religious movies are cringe. You have a bunch of messages that you want into your movie, and the story becomes an afterthought. Then you shoehorn the messages into the story, and it becomes so forced and uncanny that it just feels like a 2 hour long propaganda... or even unintentionally hilarious
Hollywood has long had a bad habit of creating dialog that no human being would ever say in real life. And it's mainly so that the writers feel smart even when their writing isn't that smart.
Horror movies have been very dependent upon tropes to quickly get you in to the story so they can scare you. I was not holding my breath that the sister missionaries would be a good representation of missionaries or our faith. I think it's interesting what they brought up about other people of faith also feeling misrepresented. I think at its core, Hollywood is anti-religion, so it doesn't surprise me they can't seem to get in the mindset of someone who is actively religious.
I think it’s an extreme dishonest to say this film is unfair to Mormons . Yes in some parts they are shown to be naive , But Sister Barnes pushed back against Hugh Grants argument . Sister Paxton is the hero of the piece and at the end of the story may retain her faith but that’s up to interpretation
Anti or anti "lite" doesn't bother me personally because My extended family still has land in Illinois that our ancestors left when they were driven out and then travelled across the plains to Utah. It's a reminder to us for several things.. Bad things happen and we have it so easy compared to the literal threat of life they experienced, so we can deal with bad press, nasty words.. whatever. Also to be wary of governments and how even in this great country we live in.. things can go bad.
I saw the movie and I thought the acting was pretty good for all of them, I didn’t feel the spirit watching it of course and if you want an uplifting movie absolutely don’t watch it but it didn’t upset me or shake my faith by any means. A lot of the arguments used in the movie were pretty common and the type of stuff you could say for about any religion. It didn’t scare me besides the scene where the one lady brought the pie down to the basement. It was pretty predictable in a lot of parts and while it was creepy it started giving me “knives out” vibes at the end where it was a lot of over explaining
I do not agree with a lot of things you are saying on this critic. I am a former member and you have no idea how much s@x missionaries talk where in a mission. Not sure about sister missionaries, but guys are constantly talking about making out, and having s@x. Missionaries always talk about salvation for others will bring salvation for themselves. You talk about atheism and how basic these concepts are but you are only saying this to appear smarter. Tell me about atheism college level then? I think the actors were great especially if they were newcomers. What else would you expect for 19 year olds?
I saw it. The first scene was pretty cringy but overall it was entertaining. The sister missionaries were strong characters, not just naive girls. The first part of the movie reminded me (just a little) of an experience I had on my mission that was mildly creepy and involved deception used to get my companion and me into a dangerous situation. I probably wouldn't see the movie again, mainly because horror isn't my favorite genre. The other people in my group said they enjoyed it. It sparked some interesting conversations afterward.
Thank you for having this podcast. I was actually really interested in seeing this film, as I love horror. But after hearing what you said, I think I'm going to pass. It's so frustrating to hear how my faith is being portrayed in popular media. It makes me really sad, especially since people not of our faith are giving this film rave reviews. Probably the best representation that I've seen of our faith in any media is an '80s Made-for=TV film with Linda Hamilton called "Go Toward the Light. "That was a really beautiful story.
I actually watched this movie (I’m a believing member) this video gets so many facts about the film wrong that it isn’t even funny. I actually recommend it, I felt like it was a fairly nuanced and respectful portrayal. I don’t understand why Saints Unscripted hated it so much. 🤷♂️
Kind of like another comment said, I think the Saratov approach is a beautiful movie which I haven't seen yet. But it's based on a true story, and from what I've heard it accurately portrays missionaries and the church
I just saw the film tonight. I actually think the film was respectful of our faith. It had moments where the sisters pushed back against the villain’s critiques. And I don’t think the naive sister loses her faith. And I thought the movie was very thought provoking but not on the religious stuff (I agree it wasn’t deep criticism of the church), but it was thought provoking from a narrative/plot standpoint. I actually really enjoyed the film.
Your comments here are spot on. All the negative comments are from people who haven’t seen it. Spreading false Informations about some cast assuming they know anything but they know nothing is the truth. They won’t watch the film or research the many videos of interviews from real sources outside the media. Many active members have seen this film and agree with it not being about the church. It’s not offensive and have no problem with it. They know the members who worked on it personally Making sure it was done respectfully and as accurately as possible in this fictional story. These negative comments are from people who actually think they are suppose to believe mr reeds diabolical characters dialog. They are acting like it’s a documentary on the church or a reality show taking it way to serious It’s a movie with a script and actors who act.
I have absolutely no desire to watch this movie. And this podcast reinforced that for sure it makes me so sad and frustrated when Hollywood falsely portrays missionaries or members of the church as a whole. And after hearing about the sisters talking about pornography like that, that makes this movie even worse. Simply put, I think this movie is basically meant to misrepresent the church.
First of all, this movie forgets that the Sister missionaries are not allowed to teach a single man in a household without a Ward mission leader present. Or they have to turn it over to two male missionaries. That is in their white handbook to keep them safe. Unless that is part of the plot that they broke that rule.
In the movie, the missionaries stated they could not enter the home without a woman (roommate or wife) present. There was a massive storm brewing and this man man reassured the missionaries that his wife was just in the other room and he would grab her so they can come in. Whether or not his wife is real or they just believe that she is real is used a plot device during the first portion of the movie.
Not to defend the movie, but the villain lied and said his wife was home. But she would have needed to be in the room with them to really be complying with the rule. We never would have taught a man without another woman in the room.
I just got out of the movie 10 minutes ago. Great review on your part. To me, there were so many half-truths mixed in with lies/misinformation/stereotypes. Logically your brain can work through some of where Reed is coming from but you also recognize that it’s a misrepresentation of us. I have no problem with thrillers/horror movies. But this made me very uncomfortable. It just seemed like a constant beat down on our faith (figuratively and literally).
Did you see the movie. They don't lose their faith. They stick to their faith through out the movie. The movie creates a positive image of the missionaries. They are the hero figures at the end of the movie.
This guy knows little about missionaries and even less about movies. The sister missionaries were excellent in their roles. This critique is completely wrong.
I enjoyed the movie. I did feel the opening dialog about porn felt forced, but I also felt it functioned as foreshadowing for later events with Sister Paxton. The arguments were weak, IMO, but they were well enough presented. Sister Barnes pushback was solid. But I also remember thinking during the film that the weakness of Hugh Grant's arguments were almost comical, but he still did awesome I think.
First! Also, if you guys want a sneak peak of my new book, "The Saints Who Built America: How Sacred Foundations Shaped 200 Years of US History," Let me know and I'll sent you a private link to the audio book now on UA-cam.
How can anyone do review and not have seen the movie. Assuming it is something it’s not . The one who saw is is getting everyone thin wrong. The girl hasn’t seen the film and is quoting the wrong actors lines. Quoting wrong information about the actors. Yes he’s twisting the first scene getting it all wrong quoting the lines all wrong! . This review is so inaccurate and missing all the good points of the film. So many active members loved the film and accurate representation of missionaries which is rare to see in Hollywood. Not realizing this review is only making church members look like the bob ross board game , weirdos instead of embracing all good. There’s 114 raves reviews from ny times Hollywood reporter entertainment tonight extra … then there’s this review here which is the odd man out so opposite of what 99 percent are raving about. Trying to discourage people from going to the “ movie “ it’s not a documentary on the church or an attack in any way.
Sheesh.. more reason to avoid 99.9% of the movies that come out nowadays. This one really scrapes the bottom of the barrel. Hulu will probably wholeheartedly embrace such garbage. Shame on Hugh Grant for participating in it. I can literally count on one hand the number of movies that have come out since covid that are actually worth watching. 'Inside Out2' and 'Six Days in August' are the only 2 movies that came out this year that we actually went to the movie theater to see. The movie industry is definitely going off the deep end.
Hugh Grants best work Best realistic LDS characters many members seeing this film and feeling finally seen and respected. Practice members have actually seen the film and love it come out being proud of their faith. Reviews and comments from people who haven’t even seen the film assuming it’s what it’s not. people who say annything about the film and the actors with out seeing it have no credibility. Listen to the actual interviews from the cast and filmmakers to get the real information. Not here with these 3 in such a tizzy
Another minor inaccuracy was Topher Grace’s character not having a companion . Perhaps he was supposed to be the Ward Mission Leader but they referred to him as Elder .. this is an extemlry minor error but if I was the dramaturg on this film I would of fixed that
I went to see a different movie from the same film studio called Front Room. It's the worst movie ever made and I wish I could get my money back. Won't make that mistake again.
I understand why you cover these kinds of movies because they talk directly about our faith and it always seems negative but there are some positive movies made by members of the church but not about our faith that i think would be good to cover as well.
1. Would love a video by Dave debunking Mr Reeds specific arguments 2. Mr Reed is a perfect caricature of Satan. Seems sincere, nice, but is deceptive and his only goal is to take the girls captive and leave them miserable in his basement (hell). It’s weird to me that THIS is the character the writers intend to be the one we’re supposed to believe. The scriptures already tell this story which strengthens my faith. 3. It seems the movie is pretty highly reviewed so I’m skeptical of the criticism here but I also acknowledge that movie critics love, love anything disgusting and degrading.
What would be funny would be a sister survives by some miracle at the end. Here this guy thinks he intellectually is superior and great then ends up dying some random way. Was it divine intervention?
Ok. I watched the movie. Here’s my take. The Acting was great. Accuracy on our beliefs and the church? It was… mid. It had many creepy moments and was suspenseful, but there was some things that made me literally “lol”. No profanity or sex. That's good. And I will say, there was some laughable arguments in the movie. And the movie really did drag on with the villain's monologue, like bro ok I get it you don't believe.
I think the whole point of religious belief is to believe despite facts. Like the protagonist were very smart and challenged the antagonist and eventually fought him off. I think the scene about prayer was beautiful and honest about rationalizing religion to a man that can’t stand hypocrisy. Like it’s never in doubt that he’s not a bad guy but he points out the hypocrisy of religion. But the ending isn’t saying she rejected her religion or her belief. The butterfly at the end is indicative of her belief is validated. Facts disagree with all religion but that’s not the point with prayer or faith. Seems like you don’t like the guys on here don’t like being challenged
Thank you for making this episode. The best thing we can do is to hold fast to the iron rod just as president nelson counseled us in his talk make time for the lord. "If you are not also seeking the Lord through daily prayer and gospel study, you leave yourself vulnerable to philosophies that may be intriguing but are not true. Even Saints who are otherwise faithful can be derailed by the steady beat of Babylon’s band." President nelson. Make Time For The Lord Oct. 2021
I stumbled upon this video after doing my typical YT review search on movies I recently watched. I’m about 5 minutes in. I’ll start by saying I’m not LDS, but was a Jehovah’s Witness the first 15 years of my life (so, until 1990) and did plenty of door knocking. I can assure you, there are those who would never talk about sex and those who would do more than just talk about it. So, I’m gonna have to assume, especially in 2024, the same goes for LDS and all of the other sects of that type. Second, how can this dude criticize the script of A Quiet Place when there was almost no talking? 🤣 I know they communicate, but that’s just hilarious to me. This guy seems like a know it all who people probably pretend to like to his face, but find incredibly annoying. But that’s just my first impression. Like I said, I’m only 5 minutes in. I think the rest of this video is gonna leave me scratching my head and/or laughing. Let’s find out…
I imagine this movies anti-religious themes comes off like I see in Frank Herbert’s God Emperor of Dune (his writing style changed and his characters became pedantic). Alternatively, some comic books.
Control? Marcus Aurelias discovered centuries ago that either we control ourselves or sin controls us. Religion is just providing the framework for self control.
They never loose their faith. They are strong faithful valiant fearless warriors Great examples of LDS missionaries which is the best part of the film with a great ending This podcast has no credibility getting everything wrong
I would love to watch you guys react to Brigham Young: Frontiersman. Vincent Price, the Prince of Horror, playing Joseph Smith. It was an interesting, but good, movie.
@@warren5181 I mean it's getting a little old being Hollywood's punching bag. There's been a lot of those kinds of movies and shows the past few years. So yeah, I think we're a little salty about that.
@@IJN-33 Okay, I can understand that perspective. As somebody with no skin in the game, I felt that the parts were all very well played and the opinions expressed in the video were skewed rather than objective. Regardless of our difference of opinion, I think we can both agree that Hollywood is a cesspool ✌️
The comments in the video about the writers wanting to have sex with sister missionaries was disgusting. I think you guys totally missed the mark with this movie, maybe considering that only one of you ever watched it.
I'm not LDS, although went to Mutual as a teenager. The way I looked at the movie was both sides were portrained as plot gimmicks to appeal to horror movie enthusiasts. I don't like that genre so I didn't like it and would make no judgment on faith based on it.
Baptizing him would be good for her salvation. That’s doctrinal. You haven’t heard that ever? I think the negative reaction from these believing members is because this is not a faith promoting story of missionaries being kept captive like the sorotov approach was. If you are interested in the movie I encourage you to watch it. It’s getting great reviews. Don’t be afraid of being expose to something that doesn’t reaffirm your beliefs.
Source please? There are scriptures stating that bring you will have great joy in bringing others to Christ. Here is my source D&C 18:15-16 15And if it so be that you should labor all your days in crying repentance unto this people, and bring, save it be one soul unto me, how great shall be your joy with him in the kingdom of my Father! 16 And now, if your joy will be great with one soul that you have brought unto me into the kingdom of my Father, how great will be your joy if you should bring many souls unto me! You might be talking about what Christ told us to do. In Matthew 28:19-20 it states, 19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen. Does it say if you don't get somebody baptized your salvation is lost. I do not think it does. So saying that it is good for her salvation is quite misleading. Her salvation as a daughter of God is a free gift given to all God's children.
The female host of this channel says people don’t talk this way when discussing porn… WRONG! Step outside any ward house in Utah and in fact many people talk this way, even in more graphic terms even. Stay stuck in your bubble, sister 😮
What were you talking about that missionaries don’t think about their mission in a this is going to be better for my afterlife and I’m more spiritual and whatnot. Members constantly fantasize and such about being extra holy for their extra special blessings
This is inaccurate on so many topics! Spreading inaccurate rumors. Go see the movie and don’t judge these people here . Seriously Don’t listen to this. 2 haven’t even seen the film. How can anyone do a review on a film and not have seen it. It has a 96 percent rotten tomatoes Everyone’s coming away feeling stronger in their faith. This is super negative. If you love Hugh you will love his performance. Most people who are members who have actually seen the film loved it and see these missionaries as great representations of real missionaries and they come away having more faith and proud of their beliefs. This is also A MOVIE. These are actors working with a script. it’s not a documentary. This isn’t an anti Mormon film.
Don't waste your time or money on this filth amieeeast is trying to convince people to see this trash by lying about it. One person in the interview saw the film and another read the script so they know what they're talking about.
Wow. The first two minutes into your review telling LDS people what to expect you are already leaving out context just like a typical apologist. You fail to leave out the ad for condoms which sparks the whole conversation in the first place. At face value, your reactions are justified and make sense, but with context you sound like prudes and trust me these conversations happen even among faithful LDS missionaries. As someone has already stated already, you obviously don’t want LDS to watch this movie. Why don’t you let them be the judge instead of offering up judge mental garbage reviews without context,
It’s just a movie…calm down 🙄 It doesn’t make it “anti-Mormon” anymore than the Exorcist is “anti-Catholic”. The way the church is freaking out about it is frankly weird.
Thought Mormons were supposed to be nice and not judgmental. This is such a gross biased take. Y’all should be ashamed discrediting these writers and calling them groomers.
It's obvious that the purpose of this interview was to discourage members from watching. I've never seen a review with such blatant spoilers . Interviews from public square magazine have always been very agenda driven, and disappointing.
Saw the movie, loved it. Can't believe we have such thin skin that we can't watch a piece of art based on our faith and not feel immediately offended. Jeez, you're talking about an IMDB >7.0 / RT >90% rated movies and treating it like it's an amateur low budget movie. Ughh
64% of Americans don't know anything about the Saints. The 40% that think they do are antagonistic because of competing Protestant influences, but have no knowledge of the history that created their inherited bias and vitriol. As the Saints are among the most persecuted in this country, any misrepresentation of who they are stands under valid criticism. Further, the Saints have done more for this country than any other organized group. Misrepresentations like this serve only to undermine that legacy and truth. Preventing others from learning what influence the Saints are responsible for. Its not art if it's propaganda. And it isn't good if it isn't true.

This is nothing but a hit piece paid for by the church's Elizabeth McCune Institute. I often like this channel, but not when the public square magazine are on it.
Your cognitive dissonance is showing…it’s just like normal human interaction-Evan missionaries! The script and acting was excellent and rotten tomatoes has a 95% rating. You are just sad cuz it’s all true -allegory on religion 😢
@@FourofSix I'm actually somewhat interested in seeing it, but if this is what the movie was like it is nothing like how most missionaries think or talk. It sounds more like a crude caricature with some edgy additions.
@ It’s a good movie that explores human behavior and the impact religious beliefs. What was discussed in this video was just enough to make you think it’s different than what it is. It will have an impact on those who see it. But if you are a believing member then it may be hard to watch.
The bag-of-guts has a perfect view of what female Mormon missionaries are--or should be. And having experienced at BYU when I was younger with the young (hot to trot) women there--he is soooo off the mark. Now when he is confronted with something out of his comfort level he cannot handle it.

1000% agree
I 10000% agree with this. I was impressed by the movies nuance and pleased to see it didn’t just punch down on Mormons and actually left the question of true miracles up to interpretation of the viewer at the end- directly contradicting the main villain.
@@Rmurtube I strongly agree with this. This video was far from a fair or even accurate analysis of the film. This was not an anti-Mormon film. I think it is spectacular to have lds missionaries as the protagonists of an A24 horror flick.
Couldn’t have said it better myself
What are y’all talking about? She doesn’t lose her faith at the end…
Were you just primed to think this was anti Mormon??
@coalhouse1981 ooh wow I like that idea. I would love to hear everyone's different interpretations and insights.
Saying this is a bad script is such a bad take.
I thought they did a fantastic job showing how missionaries are
Baptisms are totally portrayed as just a number throughout the mission, and missionaries definitely share intimate details of their lives with their companions.

Agreed. Judgemental tripe
I agree this video is very disappointing.

@FourofSix so, as a Grandma over 68 years old, what was your favorite part of the movie? When the missionaries lose their faith, or when they're killed? Nice attempt at trolling here, but this and other posts in this string don't ring genuine, but nice try.

In other words, a complete waste of time, especially for Latter-day Saints.

lol! They don’t need YOUR money!
Same could be said of the church. They don’t need your money, yet they ask you to clean their toilets and pay for your YW camp fees amongst many other things. This is the most accurate and sympathetic depiction of the missionaries I've seen in mass media and the villain is a caricature of an amoral and jaded atheist. I don't know what more you'd want here.
They just know what the church newsroom told them to think.
How to say I'm a blind moron without saying I'm a blind moron.

Great thoughts! I’m sorry about the mission experience you had :/
If you want a moview about kidnapped missionarries, watch the Saratov Approach instead
I agree with you. Nearly all the negative comments are from people that haven't seen the movie.
This is what I gleaned from the trailer
On one of the trailers, they ask if another female is present and he says something like, oh she’s in the kitchen cooking up something
@@jaredmusser8414 Still not verified.

It literally isn't doctrinal, nor is it how any missionary talks. Source: was a missionary.
Source please?
There are scriptures stating that bring you will have great joy in bringing others to Christ. Here is my source D&C 18:15-16
15And if it so be that you should labor all your days in crying repentance unto this people, and bring, save it be one soul unto me, how great shall be your joy with him in the kingdom of my Father!
16 And now, if your joy will be great with one soul that you have brought unto me into the kingdom of my Father, how great will be your joy if you should bring many souls unto me!
You might be talking about what Christ told us to do. In Matthew 28:19-20 it states,
19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.
Did yall repent? This movies rated R lol
Thank you
Wow. This missed the mark.
What were you talking about that missionaries don’t think about their mission in a this is going to be better for my afterlife and I’m more spiritual and whatnot. Members constantly fantasize and such about being extra holy for their extra special blessings
😂😂😂 thank you for exposing yourself as the ignorant person you are
Very cool interview!
Biased review member bashing ex members lol very hypocritical behaviour
I had high hopes for this movie! The Quiet Place was so good
This is inaccurate on so many topics!
@@aimeeeast9131Just the fact that the sacred garment is shown is reason enough not to support the film.
costumes are used in films. This is not a documentary or reality show
You obviously have an agenda and don't recognize anti-mormon or anti-faith filth
Thought Mormons were supposed to be nice and not judgmental. This is such a gross biased take. Y’all should be ashamed discrediting these writers and calling them groomers.
This movie sounds whack 😂
It's obvious that the purpose of this interview was to discourage members from watching. I've never seen a review with such blatant spoilers . Interviews from public square magazine have always been very agenda driven, and disappointing.
Meh.
We weren't going to see it anyway.
It's rated R.
You're just upset they exposed this filth for what it is.
😵💫
😬
@@SaintsUnscripted 😭
I think the point, is considering how much information is available, the way it depicts our faith is akin to an amateur film.
Even Deseret News wrote an article about it, and the church released a statement on how they keep missionaries safe.
This is nothing but a hit piece paid for by the church's Elizabeth McCune Institute. I often like this channel, but not when the public square magazine are on it.
@@chile55 question: were the sister missionaries portrayed as s*xually active, or otherwise did not uphold the standards of the church?
Art? ART?????
Gotta say, movie sucked no matter whose beliefs they were trying to mock. Blah. Boo 👎
It’s rated R so it’s an obvious no-no
It's a 15 here in the UK, I was of the understanding that age ratings in the US are not enforced?
Whatever you say "grandma"
@@kevinwoodward8546 …sounds like you need some life experience son🙂
When Hugh Grant does interviews about his character he stays in character- so it can disconcerting if you think it’s really him
The bag-of-guts has a perfect view of what female Mormon missionaries are--or should be. And having experienced at BYU when I was younger with the young (hot to trot) women there--he is soooo off the mark. Now when he is confronted with something out of his comfort level he cannot handle it.
😂😂😂😂 what a joke! You are just upset they exposed this movie for the filth that it is
