A testament to how strong Satan is and he wants the best in this world and for a time he was able to influence her but thankfully she realized the falsehood. Bless her for fighting and coming back!! @bobicusrex knowing the doctrine and studying the scriptures, listening to the prophet is vital. The social aspect is cultural and everyone should make you feel welcome. Kelsea is a jewel. Talk about a comeback. This has to be one of my favorite episodes. Thirty years ago I, too, had a "night paralysis" experience. I was young and single living in an apartment that never had a good spirit about it. I didn't spend a lot of time there because it felt dark, so I just mainly slept there. I had just fallen asleep and somewhere between 10:00 -11:00 pm, suddenly my eyes SHOT open--as I felt an indescribable terrifying darkness--something demonic physically hovering over me. My heart was racing a million miles an hour, I could hear it. I felt if I turned around and looked up at whatever it was, I would have been swallowed up by hell. I was an active member at the time, but I lay paralyzed and there is no way I could have spoken as the fear overcame all thought. It took me some time to think the words, "In the name of Jesus Christ I command you to leave." The dark being immediately left. Gone. There are no words to describe the sheer terror and complete stuper of thought when it was happening. After the "sleep paralysis" event , I never slept in that apartment again. Evil is real. I can relate to what Joseph Smith felt in the sacred grove. God is good. Jesus really is the answer. And the Church of Jesus Christ is His restored church on the earth.

Easily a top 3 comeback episode, if not #1. The gospel (specifically as described in the book of mormon) dispels all error and counterfeits. There is no substitute for prayer and scripture study. Miracles and spiritual manifestations still exist. They only cease because of our lack of faith. Thank God for his power to save souls, and to do so immediately! That paralysis you spoke of is real. It happened to me on the mission as I woke up during rhe middle of the night. We were in an area where a lot of good was about to happen, and the adversary was pissed. He was trying to destroy me. I called on Jesus like you did, along with a few words towards the adversary a missionary should not say😂. Through the power of our Savior, it released me and flew out the door (the door slammed open as it bolted away). I don't like to talk about this, but I wanted you to know it was real, and you should look at it as a blessing, knowing you are doing the right thing and the adversary is mad. And that's exactly what we want!! Thanks for sharing your experience!! I love how His power through love can truly change us. Kinda crazy how much He loves us and how truly easy it is to turn to Him.

I feel conflicted about this. I also learned a lot about energy work around 8 years ago. Studied it a lot. Emotion code, a bit of body code, reiki, got certified at the first level, have crystals etc. But I also did my best to stay in alignment with the gospel and to remember and know that any and all healing through these tools comes from Jesus Christ. He is the creator of the world. I did receive some relief and healing through it and felt the holy ghost guide me at times. I actually felt compelled to go the temple more as understanding the energy work made me realize more how important attending the temple was, how important casting out is etc. How false beliefs from the adversary can keep us from progressing etc. I don't do much with it now, but it wasn't something that took me away from the gospel. In some ways it strengthened it. But I know it can be the starting of leaving the church for others so that's why I was always trying to be careful in what I partook of and how. I tried to stay in alignment with the gospel.

What an amazing time to come to the temple for the first time. Mike Day, Dave Butler (In The Language of Adam), Andrea Woodmansey (on the Stick of Joseph podcast), and even the non-member, Margaret Barker, have increased my understanding of the Temple a hundredfold in the last six months. Andrea's latest visit to the Stick of Joseph, published yesterday, has blown my mind yet again. I think my understanding of temple symbology just doubled again after watching that episode. I’m so happy to hear this conversation!! Thank you for your honesty and powerful testimony. I come from a family of indigenous medicine women. We have been observing the “new age” movement for a while. It’s an adaptation of many ancient practices without the rules. Even our ancient family practices have grown to include the wisdom of the gospel of Jesus Christ and the power of the priesthood. The new age is filled with out-of-time practices and half-truths that can regress your spiritual development.

What I love about these stories is that they can be told without shame. This is one of my favorite stories and has so many ingredients that will help others recognize that they too belong to the same Heavenly family that we all once knew in pre-mortality.
Kelsea will be a remarkable beacon of light to many who will use her experience and example to come back to Christ and his Church as well.
It is profoundly amazing how each of us is known by God and is on our own time table with Him. We often don't get help when we WANT it .. because God knows the perfect time for when we NEED it.
Each episode of Come Back Podcast is testimony that there is a God and that we belong to the authentic Church of His Son, Jesus Christ.

The roads you’ve traveled with energy healing, new age ideologies, identitarianism, crystals etc that so many today seek out instead of seeking Christ, will find answers in your story. I have seen the same outcomes for those who’ve followed these paths and they do offer as you said that grain of hope for a moment but in the end lead to heartache, sorrow and loss of precious relationships. Nothing matches the power and healing of Christ. I’m so grateful for your courage and your humility to have come back to Christ through the power of his atoning sacrifice. It is amazing to me how all of us, inside and out of the church, are seeking for peace. And if we listen to the spirit, we come to understand the truth of the Savior’s words, “my peace I give unto you, not as the world giveth, give I unto you”. All the man-made philosophies in the world can’t give us peace. True, lasting, eternal, heavenly peace comes from the Savior.

I seldom leave comments on the internet, but I want to say to Kelsea; thank you very much for coming on this podcast and sharing your conversion story and the steps you took back to the church. I can relate to your experiences and conversion. I was a convert at age 29, just after having my first child. His birth woke me up that I needed God. I didn’t have parents who prayed or talked about God. I have always been spiritual and I attended church with different friends as a child. I lived in Chicago and the church wasn’t out there yet. But I moved to Arizona and a new family moved in across from us, and they shined and glowed. I wanted to know why they did, and I asked where they go to church and when I heard the name, I knew and Gods voice in my head confirmed it. I have three kids now and it’s been a great ride. I did have an experience like yours after I joined the church. This spirit I could see while lying on my back. It was like an amoeba floating above my bed. I cast out spirits often from my home until I heard an experience my Bishop had. Then I really felt the power and I knew they left my house and they never came back.

I was not raised in the church either. I was born Catholic and have traced my family lines all the way back to the 1500's in Normandy France. Had it not been for the baptisms of babies and children... I don't think there would have been anyway to track these things. But when I was in the 7th grade way way back in 1969, (I graduated from High School in 1974 and joined the Army the same year.) I can remember being taught by the Nuns about the Trinity. When they tried to explain it to me... I could not comprehend it. There was something telling me that this belief was not true. I felt as if this was a perversion of who God was. It was later in 1977 that while being stationed in the Army in Germany... I was taking the missionary discussions when the doctrine of the Trinity came up. I told the missionaries that this doctrine was not true and I would not join a church that taught it. I can remember big smiles coming across their faces as they notified me that I was correct. And they said their Church does not accept the doctrine of the Trinity either. That was one of the many ways I was told how this church teaches and has true doctrines... and this is what make it the true Church.

@MrNirom1 that's so incredible about your finding ancestors back to the 1500's and you are correct about the record keeping of early infant baptism. Its so good to have such early records and it's fun to try reading them!

I love the prayers on The Chosen based off traditional Jewish/Hebrew prayers. So I’ve written many of them down and tried to memorize then so I can include them in my prayers. I love these pleadings for protection through the night:
Blessed art Thou, Lord our God, King of the Universe, who brings sleep to our eyes and slumber to our eyelids. Spread over us Thy tabernacle of peace. Let our sleep be tranquil and undisturbed by troubling thoughts, bad dreams, and wicked schemes. May we awaken in peace to a new day and new life, that our eyes may behold the splendor of Thy light. Praised art Thou, Lord, whose glory gives light to the entire world.

Guide us with Thy good counsel. Save us because of Thy mercy and for Thy Name's sake. Shield us from every enemy, plague, sword, famine, and sorrow. Remove the adversary from before and behind us. Shelter us in the shadow of Thy wings. Grant us life and peace, now and always. Forgive us our sins and trespasses. Have mercy upon us and all those who suffer.

This was so good! Loved this.
Honestly, with that part about sleep paralysis, her experience isn’t much different than Joseph’s first vision. Satan seems to have a pattern of sending evil spirits to anyone trying to come unto Christ, either by literally silencing them or scaring them. Calling out to Jesus Christ has a real power to it.

I dabbled in New Age for a time and I was deceived that I could help more people learning and practicing New Age beliefs and practices than just being a member of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. You feel kind of powerful thru the New Age stuff & that is Satan deceiving people. It is in direct opposition to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

I remember a time being around a lot of people that were headed this direction, and I remember reading a book about energy healing and doing a search on the internet about the contents and witchcraft popped up. I was quite surprised but it made sense according to the feelings that surrounded it. The scriptures don't have nice things to say about witchcraft. I got rid of the book and started trying to influence the friends away from it.

Awesome episode! Learned a lot, what an incredible journey. Couple things I noticed: God allowed her to go down that new age path, and it wasn't until she knelt and prayed.. asking, pleading, seeking.. then the Spirit filled her heart. He waited for her to be ready, and waited for her to ask. I also love that the Lord also started to then impress on her to go back to His church. So many great elements in this story! Her journey through both new age and anti-mormon materials.. whew!!

What a great episode! I honestly think that a faith crisis/deconstruction, as painful as it is, is almost essential for all members of the church. I have been in that space for the past 10 years and it’s incredibly hard at times but it has made my convictions in the core so much stronger. There is plenty that I don’t agree with and that I get frustrated with but I do have faith that God will make things right over time.

Such a wonderful episode! Especially pertaining to new age ideology. So many things take people away from the focus of Christ. Many have good intentions but like this said, it worked at first and then she kept having to have more with little to no results. Jesus Christ works! The gospel of Jesus Christ works! Heavenly Fathers plan WORKS! So happy for this sweet sister. She had to go through those things and experience all that she did to know - it really works. And it is true! Joseph Smith is a prophet of God. ❤️

I love the dialogue about shame. I often describe it as the difference between guilt and shame. Guilt is productive. It’s a righteous recollection or acknowledgment of sin/wrong doing that pushes you toward the savior. Shame keeps us stagnant or walking away from the savior. It keeps us feeling badly about ourselves and pushes us to believe that we can not be better. Guilt is a gift from the Savior. Shame is a curse from the devil.
Also, Angels and seer stones is an LDS podcast with folklore professors. They talk about similar experiences with dark spirits at night. Super interesting!

I had a demonic attack when I was coming back to Jesus Christ it was terrifying but he saved me from this awful doom, and my life has been blessed ever since in the gospel of Jesus Christ. I must say I was quite surprised that her experience was so similar to mine. My life has never been so spiritually lead as it is now. I feel his love and guidance on a daily basis. Where are story differs is I always knew the Church was true. I was in a state of rebellion. I’m so glad I never got past feeling the spirit. Because if I had I would be lost forever.

I see so much of my wife in Kelsea.
In 2020 she stopped believing and stepped away from the church and into agnosticism and feminism. A little bit of new age, too. We're trying to make it work, but it is very rough. We've talked of divorce several times--she has asked for it before--and are essentially separated and living in the same house in different rooms raising our kids as Kelsea did in her story. It's not a happy life and not something I want forever.
I pray for my wife to have an awakening like Kelsea every day.

Austin, stay "focused on Christ" attend the temple as often as possible and you will be led to know what to say and do to serve your wife in the way Christ would and bring the spirit into your home. When I prayed for a miracle for my family I was led to 1 Colossians 9-15 and I prayed that the blessings of those verses would strengthen and give spiritual discernment and find opportunities for service and fill him with knowledge of Christ's Atonement ect to my husband. Don't be the one to suggest divorce but rather put the appropriate boundaries in your marriage that God suggests in order to raise your family in righteous paths and leave the outcome in His hands. Realize as long as you keep the covenants you have made you will receive the blessings whether your wife chooses to or not and even if you remain married for this life you will not be yoked unequally for eternity with someone who is not worthy or does not want the promised blessings of temple covenants.
