orpheus really is the best character in the show. every line he delivers is always gold. I always thinks about when orpheus tells action man "2 years. 17 days. From a stroke." then a couple seasons later he dies from a stroke lmao
The scene when Action Man gets the stroke and Orpheus just says “a stroke” is amazing, it’s perfect fanservice but in such a subtle way you only know that’s what it is if you remember that scene

I cried during the season 4 finale. I cried when Brock pulled a zombie move. I cried when Dean did... That thing... I have no shame in admitting any of this.
31:53 This is not only a reference to the networking system of science, but also to much of comics in general. In particular, much of the Fantastic Four's characters all went to the same college, coincidentally, and this also coincidentally led to the characters being who they are in modern comics.
This is one of my favorite adult animated shows ever, but you're right it's really hard to recommend compared to say Archer because the beginning is a bit rough and you have to watch the show from the beginning to get into the major continuity that they build up. However, I find that Brock Samson being a badass and the Monarch being such a funny villain usually helps people get into it. Also, applying real-world logic to superheroes can be very funny and they usually nail it like the fact the Monarch is constantly broke due to spending all his money on his supervillainy. Also Dr. Orpheus is the best, he loves Taco Bell
As oppose to many of the comments, I enjoyed your retrospective and love it when they are longer then 1 hour. I also saw your Morel Orel video ( more then once I confess) which is what lead me to this one.

A 21 out of 12! Yes! I too am a bit biased towards that episode as well. Been a Yes and prog rock fan for 40+ years going back to my vinyl days! Cheers!
I just finished watching all 7 seasons of venture bros on DVD, and watching this UA-cam video slowly after every couple episodes (to avoid spoilers.) This is a great series and recommend watching the episodes in order from beginning to end. I remember catching this show every now and again when it aired, and it didn’t have the same affect as watching the series in chronological order. Now I’m a big fan and will be watching the movie real soon :) Go team venture!
Always thought hell they grew Samson's character was awesome I mean he starts off as not really coming off as someone who likes his job on the other hand he does love the boys. That shows even in season 1, I think once he earns his license to Kill back and I don't believe it was nepotism alone that earned it it's because this guy is every super soldiers wet dream. Even though he had forgotten that at the time and he definitely earns back the right to be viewed that way through the seasons.
Just a comment on the memeability of the Venture Bros.* The only ones I really consider memorable images are: 1. Brock swimming right from the burning pirate ship with a knife in his mouth. 2. Some version of Go TeamVenture. ✌️ * One comment on my one comment: I went to college at Georgia Tech: Therefore, I was pretty close to the situation. Like across the street, dude. That black-and-white building, in the commercials and and end credits, is the Turner building at 10th and 14th. The two floors that cartoon network was housed in initially, actually did have those blinds. And my opinion of what is movable and what isn’t definitely skewed by that. Thanks, Great Video.
That's what I assumed as well prior to rewatching the series for this video, but I've never been able to find anything official that confirmed that he was; It's just one of those assumptions people make since he showed up at the Tag Sale, but considering he doesn't really interact with guild leadership that often I think that having him in the small niche of non-associated villains makes a bit more sense. Plus, you'd assume that a guy with his own country would be a Level 10 and would have some sort of mutiny insurance or at the very least get fathered in to a Dental plan that covers jaw damage.
@@viedogaems well technically he had a Micronation but I get your point. I think he had a thing like the Monarch about wanting to arch Rusty. The episode where he and the Monarch both attack Rusty do have lines regarding the Guild indicating he was a part of it as one of Rusty's official arches.
"The cartoonish racism of the 50's" I hate to inform you that, while rare and they're usually young, you can in fact encounter those types in southern diners in the year of our lord 2022
I love this show. After a couple of seasons, I looked up the creators. I found out that Doc grew up in my home town! Though it was a tiny town at that time, I never met him. He was a couple of years before me in school. He was kind enough to answer a letter. I can't wait for the movie but at the same time I will be so sad that it's over. The world building is a weave work on so many levels. Doc and Jackson challenge themselves and each other. And the viewers enjoy the spoils. I think in some aspects the show could use a woman's touch, but that's my only real criticism.
I rented a studio right next to Eric Hammer’s studio. I would sleep there a few times a week and hear them working on the show, doing voice work , editing voices , hashing out ideas etc. The building had an open studio day, and they were handing out free DVDs of their pilot; little did I know that it would go on for so long. I knew they had made it when I started seeing ads for the show in bathrooms and billboards. Eric gave me some pointers once on painting; I was very careful talking with him because he had very strong feelings about painting, and he could back it up.
@@Anvilcjl I wrote him once and he offered to give me pointers on painting (I was doing a pretty similar style, oil portraits of women). life got in the way so I never took him up on it, but I'll never forget the offer either.
the closest thing to a meme the venture bros has that has stuck with me is the mummy scene in season 1. "You have to defile a mummy completely or they come back to life"
I always thought that Bisbee was a partial reference to Diney and a character from the movie/book Haniibal; Mason Verger. Extremly vile, violent, and out for revenge. I have to keep reminding myself that a huge portion of viewers of this series, or even this review didn't live through the 1960s. I did. Johnny Quest was on TV shortly after the Fantastic Four debuted. The writers were capturing some of the flavors of the sixties that are missed by the viewers. The shows pick up points where later references are picked up.
Bro this video was FUCKING AWESOME and you voice isn't all that monotone as I can hear your amusement when giving the titles for the episode- good on ya lad!
Hi, just wanted to thank you for making this video, it was what got me into the Venture Bros. I finished the show recently and hands down is my favourite show. so yeah thanks
Your review / explaination to the birth and growth of VB show is very detailed . It's obvious your a fan, but I too have watched it since the first frame. On the begining , the piolet, was to me a true attention grabber. I remember thinking this is going to be a kick ass cartoon. I saw so much potential there. Eventually it grew beyond a cartoon into an epic adult ,action, soap opera that just grew and grew. I've barely felt stolen of my viewing time. So I think maybe your wrong or right or maybe too hard on it essence. Back to the piolet in my mind it keep to all the special genetics and was a hee of a get go leading into life of the show that it's end is over the over the top piolet. I enjoyed watching your review thx
I never really got how VB season 1 is so disliked by the fans. Sure the show was finding its footing in alot of ways and the later seasons are a big jump in quality, but I think those early episodes definitely have a charm to em that makes the episodes fun to revisit and generally entertaining. It may just be my general appreciate for early [adult swim] content and scatological humor, but even the weaker season 1 stands taller than the best seasons of some other shows.
I have no idea what this is it was just there when I woke up. I was watching something else when I fell asleep I wake up my tablet is dead I turn it back on and this is what it was on one hour into the video. I've never even heard of whatever this is.
The President in “Guess Who’s Coming to State Dinner” is actually based on Lyndon Johnson (who was President back when the original cartoons that Venture Bros is based on first aired), not Clinton/Bush. So the reference actually is much older.
Dr. Mrs. The Monarch is one of the best characters. She's so funny, I love her love story with The Monarch. Her development is great, but I really liked her with The Monarch lol. Even though the story of Monarch and 21 is another fantastic story, I'd have liked more of Monarch and Dr. Mrs. The Monarch together

Hey man, love your work, the only real criticism I can give is your audio mixing, especially noticeable in between recording sessions. If you ever find yourself considering re-recording, I'd say go for it. Other than that, thanks for all your work, can't wait for more.
my audio mixing is fine my voice just sounds like that But for real, this entire video was recorded by talking into a webcam with the lens cover on because I legitimately did not know a better way to record anything. All of my recordings were originally saved as .mp4 since then, i have improved somewhat
The wwe is actually responsible for brocks change in character he was heavily based on psycho sid vicious atleast aesthetically and the dub didnt like the likeness being associated with a murderous psychopath
Beware Brock's shift in character from being less psychotic and to more aloof was because WWE complained about Brock's rage killer moments as he's a parody of a real WWE wrestler. Psycho Sid.
Imo season one is a foundation season. It's rough but it's fun to see how different it was in style and plot while season two and three fits as a full story imo and idk if I was burnt out but I couldn't care about four and give unless the monarch was included but six and seven was so refreshing with how it formed around the new environment It was sad we didn't get a movie or season 8 to clean the loose ends
I empathize greatly with Rusty as my life up until a certain point was a bunch of unmitigated failures. Not so much anymore. Can’t wait for more Venture Bros. So cathartic.
With the ongoing collapse of HBO Max’s share of WB licenses and the cancelations of many different projects do you see the Venture Bros movie to still be possible or has it likely been scrapped? Somewhat related question, do you even think its possible to give the Venture Bros a satisfying conclusion within 2-3 hours with the sheer amount of plot lines and the high bar set by the series? It seems like a near-impossible feat of writing.
Seeing all the episode title cards in rapid succession like this makes it clear that my favorite episodes are overwhelmingly Doc Hammer-written. Wonder how literal that credit is, or if they share writing duties and just split credits
@@viedogaems ooh, I should give those a listen. Had the season 1 and 2 DVD boxes way back in the day but the later seasons would be very interesting to hear
I just stumbled upon this video and I'm excited to watch. The Venture Bros. has been my favorite TV Show ever since Season 2 (I've been watching since the pilot aired, but only became a fanboy once Season 2 dropped). And I don't mean favorite animated show, I mean favorite TV Show of all time. It's incredibly smart, witty, deep, funny, etc. It has it all: comedy, drama, coming of age, midlife existentialism, mystery, romance, superheroes, bureaucracy, etc. etc. I'm still in mourning over its cancellation.
The pop culture reference from Maybe No Go is a red ball featured in Duran Duran's "Is There Something I Should Know?" video. This was confirmed in the DVD commentary, and the song features the actual lyric "maybe no go"
Hold up for a quick second, please, if you wouldn't mind doing so... Hahaha, sooo... at 10:10 in this well-done video of yours... You said something pertaining to Brock... You left out quite the tidbit of info.. You stated he had a Dodge Charger, but... you had an unintentional brain-fart that left out that Brock had a 1969 Dodge Charger with a Hemi Engine inside of Her. I say her because this BEAUTIFUL Hemi powered '69 Charger is named Adrianne! She is the sole Spiritual Soul-Mate to the one-and-only Brock Samson, the living embodiment of Earth's Angel of Death. He is what Chuck Norris jokes/stories/fables/etc WISHED they could EVER be.
you included a morrowind exploration track in the background and I had it running so I blame you for losing an hour of fighting rels tenim, also love this show very good job, forced me to give it some thought
14:29 My DVD copy has the boys wearing Orange county helmets instead of the Busy Bee mind control caps. If memory serves, they were wearing the helmets when they were instructed to beat up the dummy in the "Patty Hearst" scene. It never made sense to me until I watched the episode on a streaming service where they were wearing the caps instead. I wonder why they went with the helmets.
Red Death is perfect in so many ways. But once you see or rather hear the one thing about him, you'll never view him quite the same way again. Red Death is played by the immortal (unless you cut his head off) Clancy Brown. In Red Death we find the rather bizarre yet oddly satisfying merging of Clancy's 3 best known characters. The Kurgan from Highlander, Lex Luthor from all of the DC Animated shows, and Mister Krabs from Spongebob Squarepants. And once you realize this, you can't not notice it.
I was thinking about this recently, and I think I would have liked to see Doc Venture accept Killinger's offer back in Season 3, if even just for a short while. Having Doc as a "bad guy" for a season would have given us a lot of interesting dynamic shifts, such as Brock being forced to find some new purpose (which he does in Season 4 anyway), The Monarch having to deal with being a "good guy" to continue arching (which he does in Season 6 anyway), and we would have gotten a much more thorough look at some of the Guild's inner workings (which we see Dr. Mrs. Councilwoman The Monarch navigating in Seasons 6 and 7). I can even imagine Doc's defection having a ripple effect on the O.S.I. as they start dealing with antagonist relationships in order to stay close to the ORB while the Guild starts accepting more and more protagonists in order to get the OSI secrets they were hoping Rusty would give them. The finale of Season 3 would then see the OSI officially shifting to an antagonist organization (not a stretch considering some of the morally questionable actions they've taken in the past) while the Guild begins offering backup to protagonists (still not a stretch considering their commitment to things like workplace safety and social equity). And then we get some humor regarding the fact that nobody's job has really changed.
Rusty being the real mother honestly made so much sense for the show lol
"High level of quality" This is the only series that I have ever seen where the quality INCREASED every season.

Hey man, love your work, the only real criticism I can give is your audio mixing, especially noticeable in between recording sessions. If you ever find yourself considering re-recording, I'd say go for it. Other than that, thanks for all your work, can't wait for more.
my audio mixing is fine my voice just sounds like that
But for real, this entire video was recorded by talking into a webcam with the lens cover on because I legitimately did not know a better way to record anything. All of my recordings were originally saved as .mp4
since then, i have improved somewhat
the maple story ost. a man of culture
I'm really glad I'm not the only one who noticed it.
The first season has to spend time setting up Jonas Sr. Showing how big of a deal he was.
The wwe is actually responsible for brocks change in character he was heavily based on psycho sid vicious atleast aesthetically and the dub didnt like the likeness being associated with a murderous psychopath
This is what the internet needed
Dude great work holy shit
Really loving the elder scrolls music, especially the Morrowind tracks 👌🏻
Beware Brock's shift in character from being less psychotic and to more aloof was because WWE complained about Brock's rage killer moments as he's a parody of a real WWE wrestler. Psycho Sid.
Imo season one is a foundation season. It's rough but it's fun to see how different it was in style and plot while season two and three fits as a full story imo and idk if I was burnt out but I couldn't care about four and give unless the monarch was included but six and seven was so refreshing with how it formed around the new environment
It was sad we didn't get a movie or season 8 to clean the loose ends
About twenty minutes in....I'm convinced you have no fn clue the shows they are parodying , which is where all the gags come from. Holy shit
I empathize greatly with Rusty as my life up until a certain point was a bunch of unmitigated failures. Not so much anymore. Can’t wait for more Venture Bros. So cathartic.
I think Dr Quinn is a female clone of rusty - or atleast that’s where the story would’ve gone if she ever came up again
My body is ready. EDIT: subscribed and I heard there is going to be a movie. (You mentioned in a couple hours in).
It seems impossible, but if there's any group of people who can pull it off, they're already on it.
Thank you for helping me get through shift.
dude im ngl I've played so much morrowind lately that when the morrowind music started playing I thought I left the game open. anyway good vid, subbed
i still remember back when i was like 16, stayed up all night, high as shit, binging venture bros while eating fritos
man, what a great time that was
Seeing all the episode title cards in rapid succession like this makes it clear that my favorite episodes are overwhelmingly Doc Hammer-written. Wonder how literal that credit is, or if they share writing duties and just split credits
Based on the commentary tracks, they barely communicate at all when writing scripts outside of season premieres and finales.
This was confirmed in the DVD commentary, and the song features the actual lyric "maybe no go"
Dr Mrs. The Monarch was v encouraging in Season 3, imsaying this in s1 of your commentary
Best show ever...
GO TEAM VENTURE !
cool (I will watch all 4 hours of this)
One of the few shows that made me cry after its cancellation
you included a morrowind exploration track in the background and I had it running so I blame you for losing an hour of fighting rels tenim, also love this show very good job, forced me to give it some thought
1:54:21 WAIT he’s KEVIN CONNROY ???!!!
I wonder why they went with the helmets.
thank you
this and daria man, this and daria
Great video!
@13:00
Is that the fucking Ludibrium music??
Oh God what a throw back
> A Very Brief Venture Bros Retrospective
> almost 4 hours long
The real Venture Brothers are the friends we made a long the way.
Ignore Me!!!!
"Very Brief" 3 hour video which is saved to my watch alter
Red Death is perfect in so many ways. But once you see or rather hear the one thing about him, you'll never view him quite the same way again. Red Death is played by the immortal (unless you cut his head off) Clancy Brown. In Red Death we find the rather bizarre yet oddly satisfying merging of Clancy's 3 best known characters. The Kurgan from Highlander, Lex Luthor from all of the DC Animated shows, and Mister Krabs from Spongebob Squarepants. And once you realize this, you can't not notice it.
Loved the video man. Your passion is evident. Hypothetical: You get to change one aspect about the Venture Bros. What do you change?
@@viedogaemsdang these re amazing ideas. Shame we won’t see them!
