My late husband and I used to watch these appendices before sleeping/napping together for hours, many-many times. Since I lost him, I haven't watch these for 3 years now. (Don't worry I'm OK! :) ) Last night I found this playlist and I had the most wonderful sleep at night! So, thank you very much for the best quality sleeping experience in years :)
Sounds like you and your husband had great taste in films. Especially these appendices. Only select people enjoy the behind the scenes. May he rest in paradise. I hope he enjoyed his earthly life. I know he's enjoying his time with god right now till the end of time.
Sorry you lost your husband, it happy that you found some peace watching these vids. They are very relaxing for me and I have them on when I'm doing some chore and it makes the time so much more enjoyable.
My general impression of graham mctavish is that despite the fact hes this distinguished looking serious elderly hard gentleman, he is also a big nerd whos got more passion for a great story and the little personal details he injects in all of his role in everything he does than more than most people out there. The grasper and keeper part and the insult and injury knuckleduster is just a chef's kiss in my eyes. Gotta love actors like him.
Everyone hates on them, but I rewatch them as much as I watch lotr. I watch all 6 extended versions in timeline order all the time, once a month or so lol. I watch them to fall asleep to them too lol. Those, and the Star wars movies, and the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, and Harry Potter. I love them all.
Nor should you care. I loved the Hobbit as well and enjoyed it very much. I think some people feel the need to criticize things, I'd rather go with them and extract the joy out of some of them.
As someone who has hiked, camped, hunted, and enjoyed TWO Tours in the Marine Corps, fully kitted-out and humping @sixty-plus pounds of gear all over God's creation?... HOW these Actors managed to don all that gear/costume/weaponry, and those BOOTS, and *THEN RAN/MOVED QUICKLY?!* Truly one of the most incredible things I've ever witnessed! (And they did it so well, too!) :-)
I absolutely love this. You can really see how much work they put into these movies. I really hope Peter Jackson gets the opportunity to return to middle earth again. I really hope he does. It certainly will be better than Rings of Power...I'm excited for the Rohirim movie aswell, consiering it also takes place in Jackson's interpretation of the universe.
I used to see actors who would talk about how grueling makeup can be - I think I understand it better now having seen this. Imagine sitting there for 2 or 3 hours before you can even start working. And the folks that have to install the appliances have to be so detailed and exacting. I mean, I know they're just sitting there...for hours, but after 2 weeks it might get old.
56:31 That is brilliant what he said; as nowdays its the exact opposite with actors trying to insert their modern views and themselves to an overbearing degree in film.
Yessss ughghgh that disgusts me so much! Or worse, you have those in fantasy/sci-fi adaptations that said they had "freedom to play" or "creative freedom' because they didn't follow the source material. ughghgh
Did anybody else imagined Richard Armitatge in full on thorin oakenshield costume with flip flops and the noice they would make while walking like damn i nearly weed myself laughing
I actually enjoyed the films and though they cant compete with lord of the rings i actually liked how they made the compamy unique as individuals yet showed the cultural asthetics. I argued this with my mate maybe some outfits they could have gone more into light armour plating with dwarven art but realisticly you wouldnt see them like nights surviving in the wild. Ive also been drawn to dwarven art and culture from Tolkiens world as i just admire that unique craftsmanship fashioned. Im looking at making an outfit set using dwarven art and fashion to design sets for myself which i can.
The final look of the Dwarves were not always to everyone’s liking. For me, Thorin, Fili and Kili NEEDED to have longer, more prominent beards. The brothers should have both been blonde, and the early grey bearded looks for Thorin were magnificent.
@oscarstainton they're aim was to give each dwarf a distinct silhoutte and to be easily told apart from one another. Sure they could have given us 13 Gimlis but that would have been difficult to keep track of with body doubles, stunt doubles, cgi doubles etc. Etc.
Yeah... Plus I seriously dislike that they based some of their decision making on a dwarf being "sexy" by human standards, or rather, making Thorin looking less dwarfish because it wouldn't look sexy by human standards.... Like bruh.
I think its such a shame that they eventually decided to scrap the battle armors that the dwarves were supposed to have for the big battle in the final movie and instead went for the traveller outfit, imagine if Aragorn had still worn his ranger clothing at the black gate, it just wouldnt have been the same. Its especially unfortunate since they put so much effort in making all of these characters distinct from eachother.
I often explain Elves and Dwarves much like STAR TREK races for people that know nothing about THE HOBBIT or LORD OF THE RINS: Elves are basically Vulcans and Dwarves are like short Klingons.
It's so sad that we can't dress like this in our daily lives. I'm a 5'3 man who's fairly stout and muscular. I'm south asian; but I could pull off a dwarf look. I just don't want to make myself into a spectacle at my office. We should all dress like we're in movies. All the time. Screw sweatpants and tshirts and hoodies.
You know this really makes me think about what went *wrong* with the hobbit... This video shows to me that the fault wasn't in the crazy designs, art work, character choices.... Because it looks like Jackson and the design team's thinking could have led to somewhere very fun, charming and amusing... What's wrong then? Is it the script? Dramaturgy? What is it? Pacing? It just all felt a bit forced
One of the best Videos on dwarves. These Films and their take on dwarves made me Fall in Love with Durins Folk and made them my absolut favorite race in Tolkiens Middle Earth Baruk Khazad, Khazad ai menu 🪓❤
I hated the way they made the Dwarves in the hobbit... Bumbling fools. Comic relief... the Dwarves are supposed to be strong, hard headed, clever, warriors. Plus they were using Bows! And slingshots! The should've had Crossbows and Muskets... That would've been cool... Never really showed how cool and powerful and influential their race is...

Disney can’t pull this quality of dwarfs
I don’t care what anyone says…..I love The Hobbit movies. They have such a happy-go-lucky, different tone compared to LOTR. I love it.

I love them too. They're perfect in every way
Their attention to detail is phenomenal, its like an engineering project.

Unbelievable, the attention to detail and hard work that went into making the Dwarves. Very cool

For the amount they were paid? I'll put up with discomfort and waiting.

You're amazing for uploading these videos, you're much appreciated and I hope life is going well for you thank you
Aww! They're so adorable. I know they're not to be trifled with but....awww!
Absolutely incredible the amount of work and detail that went into making these characters feel real

After seeing all the work that went into these, I can’t criticize them, at all. I love The Hobbit movies almost just as much as TLOR
Magnificent work!
The goblin cleaver
Love this

Some of the concept designs would have worked better than some of the ones they went with. The axe in the head drives me freaking crazy...
The final look of the Dwarves were not always to everyone’s liking. For me, Thorin, Fili and Kili NEEDED to have longer, more prominent beards. The brothers should have both been blonde, and the early grey bearded looks for Thorin were magnificent.
They didn’t do that because all the dwarves would start to mold together. They wanted distinct looks for each dwarf and I think they nailed it.
@oscarstainton they're aim was to give each dwarf a distinct silhoutte and to be easily told apart from one another. Sure they could have given us 13 Gimlis but that would have been difficult to keep track of with body doubles, stunt doubles, cgi doubles etc. Etc.
Filing and Kili are younger dwarves. Maybe it takes a long time for their beards to grow??
Yeah... Plus I seriously dislike that they based some of their decision making on a dwarf being "sexy" by human standards, or rather, making Thorin looking less dwarfish because it wouldn't look sexy by human standards.... Like bruh.

I'm always so shocked when people say they don't like the Hobbit movies. I know it's close to blasphemous but I MUCH prefer the Hobbit films to LOTR

hi, can you tell me how to get hold of all this content like this, for example, which blu ray disk should I buy and that.
Look for the Extended Edition of "The Hobbit" movies. These sets include multiple discs with the main film and the appendices.
I often explain Elves and Dwarves much like STAR TREK races for people that know nothing about THE HOBBIT or LORD OF THE RINS: Elves are basically Vulcans and Dwarves are like short Klingons.
This is so sad to watch when you know the result 🥺
When you can scrap/omit half the runtime and end with a far superior film.
I loved the result. Many people do. The loud minority doesn’t speak for the silent majority.

Dressing like a Dwarf makes sense in a northern/fairly cold environment.

I do like the thought they put into the design and personalities of the main dwarves. I just didn't like it when they went against the writing.
You know this really makes me think about what went *wrong* with the hobbit... This video shows to me that the fault wasn't in the crazy designs, art work, character choices.... it was the extremely short deadlines they had to meet, it was studio influence.
They wanted another "Lord of the Rings" when _The Hobbit_ is anything but an epic drama.
I hate the designs for Thorin & Co. First red flag for those movies was when they released those photos. Short beards, if any, etc.
Same. They made Thorin look less like a dwarf, because they didn't seem it sexy... That's a big "Fuck You" in my eyes.

I really enjoyed the Hobbit trilogy but if Jackson was given more time to work on the hobbit it would have been as good as Lord of the Ring.
I hated the way they made the Dwarves in the hobbit... Bumbling fools. Comic relief... the Dwarves are supposed to be strong, hard headed, clever, warriors. Plus they were using Bows! And slingshots! I love everything about The Hobbit…but the guy who plays Dori is a bit to feminine for a Dwarf in a Tolkien novel.
"Gay", perhaps.
