CG makes it a lot less difficult. So little location shooting makes it a lot faster and easier to get more shots to choose from. Just imagine this without all the live horses, setting up scenes and camera's. There's a massive difference.

I love that with these Behind the scenes films (LOTR) and vlogs (The Hobbit) they show pretty much every department involved in the filmmaking. From the main actors and director to the extras, costume makers, set builders and even the caterers. It shows how much appreciation they have for everyone that was involved into making these films!
When you watch the movies you will think wow the actors really made this movies into what it is and of course they are the best, but i wanna give a huge shoutout to everybody behind the scenes who worked soo hard to make it all happen. You deserve the credit too so i'm glad we're able to watch videos like these. You can tell that they are really one big family who have made a phenomenal Trilogy. I am a forever fan of Lord of the Rings ❤❤

Real sets do have their own magic, and it makes life easier for the actors but a nightmare for everyone else. The biggest reason why cgi is so much more prevalent these days then back when LOTR was made is that it’s significantly cheaper and easier to do it now. Back in the 2000s it was simply (as crazy as it sounds) easier to build miniatures and large scale sets, than to build it all on a computer.

Del Toro had already set up most of the movie, and then PJ had to come in, with no time at all, and change it to be more what he would've done, with only a few weeks to prep, where he spent 7 years on LOTR storyboarding, planning, prep etc.. I didn't know how terrible a situation it was on The Hobbit, until I watched one of these videos on it. Now I know why it ended up being terrible in comparison.
A two-hour LOTR behind the scenes, warts and all, including a complaint from a lighting crew about unexploded army ordinance on location, and Serkis being interviewed inside a closet. Should be able to like this post more than once.

No they took apart Rivendell. But the site where they built it remains and it's a public camping spot now. It's a 40 minute drive from my house and it's amazing. They kept a few of the special big trees that were showcased in the movie on site. Truly magical.@@EvenstarSaima

I still love this trilogy all these years later all three films are in my top ten best ever I can watch them every week and still don't get tired of them and you can't say that of three films a lot normally you'll have your favourite one of the three but they are so integral to each other I can't pick one above the others and I know Peter Jackson did the hobbit movies but they don't come close to the first trilogy

Simon simply because they use more CG to create things they couldn't possibly on a budget doesn't mean the process is not difficult.

I still love this trilogy all these years later all three films are in my top ten best ever I can watch them every week and still don't get tired of them and you can't say that of three films a lot normally you'll have your favourite one of the three but they are so integral to each other I can't pick one above the others and I know Peter Jackson did the hobbit movies but they don't come close to the first trilogy
I loooove team work. It makes me so happy to see so many people just working together and even if there are disagreements, being civil. People have really lost that ability
I've said this 1000 times before.. and I will continue to say it. These movies are absolute masterpieces! The best trilogy of all time.
And this is why the movie looks so awesome.
As a certain Vulcan would say in another franchise - Fascinating! What a crew! Working out each minute detail and then blending it to make a scene, just amazing.....
