As a noob I apologize since I didnt understand a lot that you said. BUT! I'm sure many many people will appreciate you making this video with everything that's going on rn. Stay strong Jules we'll all get through this tough time together
This is exactly what i needed :-) i've been making a couple of basic video's but lately i was thinking about playing on stream but i have no idea how it works. Thanks man, great tutorial!
Thank you so much for doing this. I've been trying to figure it all out but haven't quite gotten the setup right yet. I really appreciate the pointers!
Awesome video dude! I appreciate you showing off the Stream Deck. I have mine sitting here just not really doing much, so I wanna learn more about it and would love to hear more tips and tricks. :D
Well, this is informative, and really useful. Thanks, I had a lot of questions about hardware settings but with this I think I can handle it with ease! You're awesome Jules~
It's funny, because I was thinking about doing a video showing some ways you could stream/record video games from home! New and old video games alike, as well as what to look for depending on what you want to stream (speed running, competitive games, casual games, etc.)! Or just kind of talking about video game technology in general to try and help someone figure out where to start! Also, your desk has really cleaned up in recent years, it looks nice!
Hey Jules! I'm sure you're not gonna read this, but I'll give it a shot. I tried setting up my stream, I have no amps or pedals, so I tried to set it up using Bias FX and while monitoring the audio through OBS, I couldn't find a a way to pick up the signal from Bias FX, I was hearing only the dry signal from the interface (a focusrite solo 2nd gen). I've been doing some research for a while and didn't find a solution (every forum that people were talking about it, their solution was to simply use an amp/pedal). Is there a possible way to stream using VST?
Depending on what you want to do exactly look at Audient evo 4, M-Track Air 4, Motu M2 and Audient Id4 as well. These are all good interfaces and offer slightly different things.
Me: You know, I really want to stream my guitar playing. I think I'll watch this video. Me after watching the video: Oh yeah. I forgot, I'm an idiot. Nevermind.
This is super helpful! Thanks! I do have a question I've been trying to find an answer for; I have my mic and electric guitar going through the focusrite Scarlett. However, When I'm singing and playing, the audio cuts out for both vocals and guitar but it isn't clipping. I'm fairly new to this so I might just be missing something but do you or anyone on here have any suggestion? My other question is that I would like to also play piano via VST on Abelton but not sure how to get obs to pick up Abelton. Any suggestion for that?
Hey bro, thanks for this! quick question, how do I get the audio from my interface to come through my headphones so I can hear what i'm playing while streaming?
What you're looking for is called "monitoring". On OBS, right click the audio source, go into advanced options, and find that source in the list. change to "output AND listen".
My main problem is making guitar and vocals with their own effects into the stream. With my Line 6 POD HD you can play with no latency guitar or vocals. And there is a preset with both, but no effects allowed (that would be the problem solved!) So I have to get a mixer, use the microne with no effects on vocals (I used delay in the albuns) dry voice, not my fav... And them a cable from the Line 6 not connected via usb this time, into the other channel in the mixer, and then the music that is in the computer, the backtracks (i have them, drum, bass and synths) I would have to put them in another mp3 reading device, because when you use ASIO4all, the device gets restricted. Cant play mp3 from the laptop, that at this time is runing OBS, recording video and recording audio too. Wait...I can set up a track in a daw with all the backtracks...NO. God damnit!
I'm assuming I already know the answer to this question, but I'll ask anyway for some extra feedback. I've tried streaming using virtual cables and DAWs w/ BiasFX and the issue I run into is since the Focusrite 2i2 is dual input but single output, it distorts my mic as well. But I'm guessing since you're changing the guitar signal directly with pedals that it shouldn't affect my mic right?
Hi! Can i can't hear the backing track when i connect the hotone ampero directly to the pc. In the stream platform (i tried restream and also streamyard) is present only the guitar. Do i need a mixer?. Con you help me please? Tanks.
I have very similar setup to you, 2i2, I have the Helix floor Yes it was overkill. I also have a '90s vintage mackie 1202 mixer. so I use virtual cables and I do not have any middle tier software for audio at this point, I played the backing tracks playing from a browser on the PC, guitar is coming in direct line left and right on the focusrite via analog mixer. I have a slight desync between what people are hearing and what I am hearing using the direct monitor feature on the focusrite. I typically have the browser set to one of the virtual cables. default device in OBS is the focus right all other desktop audio is disabled. I can't seem to get rid of the slight desync. The only way is to run both the backing track and my guitar through the outside inputs at the same time which is a hack basically. any ideas?
Thanks for the vid! Is the Line6 necessary if I have a whole pedalboard set up already? I've plugged my guitar straight into the Scarlett before but it sounded a little weak. Is it pre-amp or just for adding effects on top of the guitar signal?
One more thing..... I've been experiencing distorted static and completely lost audio both on the mic side and the monitor side. I have done everything under the sun and it seems to get fixed then it eventually comes back. at one point I even thought it was seasonal but that's just crazy ...😅
If anyone still sees this and can answer me, I would really appreciate it. I'd like to start streaming, mixing games and guitar playing, I'm going to get a focusrite 2i2 3rd gen, but I have a question, If I'm using the same computer for gaming and playing and perhaps I want to play something during gameplay, would it affect performance? I intend to rock on a Ryzen 7 5800x, 32gb Ram (2x16), 1tbssd, 2tb hd, and a gtx 1060 (for now... from a previous build, prices are still crazy). And I still haven't made a purchase between a mixer and a audio interface, I'd like to get both but can't right now since I'm just beginning.... anyway, can anyone share an insight or perhaps give me a any tip? thanks a bunch
So it's picking up my guitar, but not the distorted VST I got (Will Putney). It doesn't matter if I'm in a recording program or running the VST alone, the stream isn't registering the distortion at all. Got a fix for that? I did exactly as the tutorial says.
It's tough because audio being processed on the computer with a vst needs to be rerouted back through the computer with another interface for best latency so usually it's better to have the fx going in with like a helix/Axe fx/etc. It's possible to do Scarlett like interface to vst to stream but it is super finicky and almost specific to each computer in some cases. Try another interface taking in the output after the guitar is processed, seeing if the vst will create its own output, or try using asio4all as the vst output and have obs/xsplit read that as a microphone.
@@JulesConroy So I figured it out! There's a program called ASIO Link Pro (in case someone reading is having the same problem) and all I needed to do in my DAW was choose "ASIO Link Pro" and it fixed it entirely.
Idk if this makes sense but I got a question on backing tracks for anyone who might know. I usually just record songs with two different track recordings of the same guitar part panned one side and play over panned on the other side, would this work the same for creating backing tracks for streaming or is there another easier solution? Or whether just playing to an already made backing track in mono would do?
I was wondering if you can help me out with mixers/streaming. My music group is trying to figure out how to silently jam and also stream in the future. We are considering the Zoom L12 or the XR16. Basically we all want to be able to hear ourselves play (our own mix) while streaming the master track. Sorry for long comment, but thank you for reading♥
Hi, nice tutorial! I have a question, when I am playing along with the music, I hear on my monitors everything in time but in the stream transmission there is a latency as if I were playing badly. How can I solve this problem? Thanks!
Nice to know I'm not the only one who sends from the mixer to the interface. My question, since I'm relatively new to pro-audio is, is there a difference between using 1/4" cables for your Main Outs on the mixer to the interface? I've used XLR with good results, but I'm curious about your take on it.
I bought the Scarlet 2i2 but when I patch it directly into my PC and OBS the vocal channel seems to compete with the guitar channel. My understanding is you need a DAW like protools to separate the tracks in order to stream two separate clean sounds. Am I missing something here?
Super cool! I want to start streaming on either Twitch or UA-cam and sing live covers + originals. I am worried about copyright though, if I'm using instrumentals (don't play any instruments, just sing)
same, really feel like getting into twitch streaming later this year but after the DMCA situation from last year, the platform just feels very unwelcome to musicians
@@Plunkcown I may explore just talking to the camera and if I do sing something, create my own instrumentals from scratch or straight up sing acapella lol.

If I’ve just got my guitar and an audio interface, how do I get it to pick up the sound of a VST rather than just the clean sound? Edit: I've got some VST's installed but they're not appearing in the menu on OBS, do they have to be in a certain folder?
You would have to find a way to use a standalone version of the VST. Ezmix does this where you can open it up and have it route to an output then you could have OBS pick up that output. You won't be able to use the VSTs inside OBS. As I said in the description though, this might lead to some latency issues which is why I like to have a pedal handle the work of the guitar sound.
I doubt no one will reply but i tried streamign today and theres a huge input delaybetween my guitar playing and the song playing, is there a way to fix that?
wait, do you need to connect your mackie mixer to the pc or not. i think it's not needed bcuz the interface is already connected, but I don't know can someone plz answer me lol

Some suggz?: Don't point lights at cams, just light the sources. The OBS/SLOBS audio meters are complete garbage, do not trust it. They're 'clipping' well before actual clipping. Mon and verify levels before OBS. That interface is ok, doable but limited (also, driver issues). It is not the "best out there". Ok? RME, Motu, apogee, heck even the Behringer XR series will be a drastic upgrade. Don't use 'webcams' if you can help it, invest in better quality/feat/function.

I can myself loud an can't figure out how to get rid of that. my email is Only4givenOnce @ Gmail if you can help me get this figured out. the only way i've gotten guitar fx to work it sounded terrible and I had to use way to many programs to make it happen. i'm on windows 10 pro.

I can myself loud an can't figure out how to get rid of that. my email is Only4givenOnce @ Gmail if you can help me get this figured out. the only way i've gotten guitar fx to work it sounded terrible and I had to use way to many programs to make it happen. i'm on windows 10 pro.
the only instrument i play is guitar hero, why am I watching this?
