  • In this tutorial, I'm going to show you how to paint a watercolor iris in my loose watercolor floral style. It's a little faster than other styles of watercolor but actually can be harder to work through because of the high dependance on the elements and principles of design.

    Great tutorial for the Iris. I will try this again with the Iris I drew from your free floral drawing challenge. I want to try these brushes as well. I have one. My other brushes don't seem to give the same results. They are nice brushes, but maybe they are getting old and haven't been used for a long time. I can't wait to try my own composition. You are amazingly talented. Thanks for this insight and inspiration.

    Hi........Just found you but I have to ask this almost before watching the demo. How did you find/get a plastic palette to mix paint so well without beading up??? Your puddles look like they were created on a porcelain palette. Perfect. Did you treat it in some way before painting? I have never seen a plastic palette work so well even after years of use. Please share.........Now I get to watch you paint. Thanks so much!

    • @marthapreston2929

      Judith, if you apply a thin coat of toothpaste and rub it in well with your finger and then remove the exves with a clean tissue or cloth it will prevent your paints from beading. I don't recommend scrubbing it with sand paper nor the scratchy side of a kitchen sponge. I tried that and the paint will settle and dry in the scratches you made.

    • @katrinacrouch
      @katrinacrouch  3 роки тому

      Hi Judith! I used a little bit of dish soap and a soft towel. Same idea as the toothpaste that Martha mentioned-there is a residue that you want to get rid of that causes the beading. But if porcelain works for you, definitely use that and avoid the headache 😉

    • @juditharowland3461
      @juditharowland3461 3 роки тому

      @@katrinacrouch Thanks so much I'll try it. But I do have the porcelain slated ten well that works well and takes up less space.

      @@marthapreston2929 Toothpaste......I'll give that a shot. I just discovered that my small 39 well metal travel palette does the same. It beads up. so, I'll use it there as well.

      @@coloredpencils01 Oh, hahah! Thank you!
      I didn’t do anything else. I think it’s still in the drawer next to me! I don’t varnish watercolors. A few people do, but if you are using quality watercolor paints and cotton paper then you don’t have to worry about fading very much

    • @katrinacrouch
      @katrinacrouch  Рік тому

      @@pattitaylor7642 I don't have a specific photo, no! I'm sorry-for my looser paintings, I often look at a bunch of different pictures so I can understand the structure and allow the paint to flow a little more natural while still (hopefully) remaining largely accurate to the original anatomy of the plant. If you google or search Pinterest for "bearded iris", I'm sure similar images will come up!
