    Dude, I can't thank you enough for this video. I was beating my head trying to troubleshoot what was wrong with my truck. I had replaced oil and filter, fuel filter, air filter, and spark plugs. Finally, I found this video and, even though it seemed a little daunting, I decided to try replacing my solenoids in the carb. After several days working on it and following your instructions I not only learned a ton of new information, but I was able to get my ACTY running again! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

    I bought a 1998 Honda Acty and imported it a month ago. It ran out of gas and now I cannot get it to run. It will start but it dies within 5 to 10 seconds. I have watched many of your UA-cam videos for help without any luck. I have changed out the fuel filter and tried a new fuel pump but it doesn’t work. Then I put the old fuel pump back on but worry it doesn’t have enough pressure. Next I removed the gas tank and cleaned it out and replaced the fuel lines. I replaced the fuel control relay. I checked the fuse under the dash for the fuel pump and it’s fine. Today after watching this video for the 3rd time I decided to man-up and I removed the carburetor. The bowl had a bunch of gelatinous gunk in it. I couldn’t get the float off after trying briefly to check the needle. I cleaned it really well and passed some carb jet cleaner wires through the jets with lots of carb cleaner. I tested both solenoids and I can hear them both moving so I didn’t replaced them. I’m wondering if maybe I should have after reading other people’s comments since I already have them. I put everything back together and it turns over and runs for about 10 seconds and then dies. I would love to have a phone consultation and would be willing to pay you for your time if that is something you would be interested in. I’m desperate for some help. Thanks.

    That electrical connection on the solenoid is called a bullet connector. They're great because they're secure, but can be unplugged and reconnected so mistakes are easily fixed and changes easily made. It is absolutely the easiest, most convenient automotive electrical connector ever.

    Thanks for the great video, very informative. I have a 93 Acty with a choke pull of that’s not working and I noticed you have yours bypassed. Wondering if that was something you did on purpose or if the truck was like that then you got it. The Honda manual call it an “actuator” and it should be hooked to that black plastic box with the vacuum line looped to itself. My vacuum box is clogged so I never get vacuum to the actuator, may just hook it to another hose and see what happens. Thanks again for the great videos, I really want to try that tach upgrade.

      Thanks for the positive review Elijah! As for the choke and bypass, I am not certain what you are referring to based on your description. Everything you saw in the video is the way my truck came. It is a 1991 model if there are maybe slight differences? I removed and reinstalled as it was when I picked it up. Let me know if I am missing something!

    • @elijahracicot7598
      @elijahracicot7598 Рік тому +1

      There’s a plastic reservoir bolted to the top of the engine on the passenger side by the valve cover with 2 10mm bolts and 2 vacuum ports. Yours is looped to itself with vacuum line but it’s supposed to connect to the vacuum lines right by the reservoir, yours are also looped to each other. Vacuum is supposed to go into the reservoir then out and eventually to the choke pull off which is on top of the carb. It’s a black with 3 screws in the top, yours doesn’t have a vacuum line going to it. I tried bypassing the tank but it pulls the choke off too quickly and the engine stumbles. The reservoir has a tiny pinhole in the inlet port which pulls the choke off slowly. I ended up cleaning out the pinhole with a pin which restored vacuum to the pull off and improved my cold start up. Hope this helps. I would include a picture but couldn’t figure out how.

    My truck dies out after 10 minutes or so of running and won’t restart until it fully cools down. Does that sound like these valves are the issue? Not 100% confirmed, but the mid-late (1997 & up) Vans went EFI first. Seems as though the trucks start around 2000 being EFI. This truck has been really reliable even with the Carb. Hi Ron I have a question as I’m trying to diagnose my truck. Basically it sat for about 2 weeks or so not being driven, was running fine before that apart from the occasional hard start when it was hot. We had a lot of rain while it was sitting, then the first time I started it up it died maybe 10 seconds later and was the really hard to start. I thought maybe a bit of moisture had gotten in somewhere but now will only start if it’s cold and will drive fine but will not idle and will not start again. Do you think this sounds like the solenoids to you? I have Nic putting an order together for me with the solenoids but wondering what else I could need? Thanks mate good to have someone making decent videos.

    • @rhd_ron
      @rhd_ron  2 роки тому

      Hey Kieran! I appreciate the feedback. I Would start with the solenoids and a good carb clean. Seeing as though all was well 2 weeks ago, and now there is an issue I would rule out a vacuum leak since nothing changed. More than likely something has gunked up the carb or that fuel cut solenoid has started acting up. One thing I noticed when I removed mine was that even though it cycled with 12V, the needle portion of the solenoid was a little worn. So maybe that was my issue. Make sure to try and run non-ethanol gas, especially if the truck is going to sit for any amount of time and not driven regularly. Thanks!

      Could be a number of things really. Unfortunately with these carbs, elevation CAN impact. However, what condition are your plug wires? It may need a carb cleaning, could have been in marginal shape in TX then the elevation change in CO may have put it over the edge on being starved for air since the truck runs fine with the cover off. Most of the things I read they run worse with cover off, so this is interesting...

      Thank you for that feedback. I was not aware of the meaning of the flag so I appreciate you letting me know. It will not be in any future videos I may make and I will see if I can edit out in existing videos.

    I like your videos.but I don’t like the rising sun patch on your suit. When you work on a Mercedes Benz do you have a swasticka on your shirt?

      Thank you Mike for making me aware of this. I had no idea the negative connotation associated with this flag until you made your comment. It will not be displayed in the future.
