- This video takes you through the simple mathematics required to convert a knitting pattern from the given gauge, to match the gauge you got on your tension swatch.
Thank You
Can I have the jumper patter you use on your conversion factors
If you join the Facebook group “Machine Knitting Beginners and Returners Circle” it is available free within the guides as KAL2
Is this the same method I would use to convert a single size vintage pattern to my size?
If you mean you want to increase the size, then no, it's not. I would recommend drawing out the shapes (if you can) and adding your required measurements, then calculating the relevant rows and stitches using your swatch.
My struggle is how to convert a hand knit pattern to machine knitting, most patterns don't have rows it on shows inches in the schematics, it will give you the cast on for hand knit then tell you to knit do many inches, is there a rule for converting
You must knit a gauge swatch or tension piece, that will tell you how many rows and stitches to the inch. Then if the pattern tells you to knit 10 inches, and you have 8 rows to the inch 10x8=80. The swatch is your key to success.
You will find lots of information about converting between hand and machine knitting in my book Translating Between Hand and Machine Knitting. Best wishes Vikki Haffenden
Please place the paper you are teaching in front of the camera so that the writings can be clearly seen. Thank you for your efforts.

@@sallybutcherskalamundakrafts I’ve found it thank you, I will have a look on my desk top tomorrow and hopefully I can download the file.
I have found your tutorials very helpful as I am new to using a knitting machine. I hand knit and crochet like yourself and I’m loving my knitting machine. I also live in the southwest I’m in Devon 😁
@@pamelarichardson407 oh good, glad you got it. Let me know if you need any more help.
Is it possible for me to print out the conversion factor document please
You can get a downloadable copy from Facebook the Machine Knitting Beginners and Returners Circle.
Hello. I tried to join at Facebook, but they refused to accept new members for 30 days, so I could not get in..
This was just a temporary measure because all the knitting groups were being targeted by scammers. I believe the restriction is now lifted, so please try again.
Ok but they said it is closed to all new members for 30 days
Try again
@@sallybutcherskalamundakrafts Actually it is my fault for not reading whole message before I sign up. Opps. I hope they accept me eh..
