Math for knitters - the ONLY calculation you need to know!

  • Have you shyed away from modifying a knitting pattern because of the knitting math? Today I'm explaining the only calculation you'll need!
    RULE OF PROPORTION
    1) Start with something you know, e.g. 10 cm = 18 st
    2) If you do a calculation to one of the equation's sides, you have to do it to the other side as well
    3) Divide one of the values with itself, in order to calculate to one, and divide by the same value on the other side. E.g 10/10 = 18/10 which is the same as 1 cm = 1.8 st
    4) Multiply by the factor that you want to know. E.g. 30 x 1 = 1.8 x 30
    5) Multiply! 30 cm = 54 st
