A lot of people have been talking about this so I want to clarify that this video only talks about the primary sun producers and not supporters (gold leaf, shine vine, etc.) or instas (gold bloom, solar tomato).
Crazy Dave is the best sun producer because he the one making the sun producers in the first place

i feel sun-shroom is the best one because in penny's pursuit levels that let you plant with a limited amount of sun before the game starts, you can plant like 5 rows of sun-shroom and hit them with an enlightenmint to have all the sun you'll need for the whole level

For prioritizing sun-spent to sun-per-5-second-interval ratio, use primal sunflower. (technically the best in that regard is sun shroom, but you shouldn't use sun shroom oustside of dark ages EVER.) For most sun gotten over the course of the game, use double sun flower.
Who cares? Sunny no longer sleep. And usable in anytime.

I like Sun-shroom as it's basically a third of Primal Sunflower's cost that eventually gets to be just as good (if not then better) as her.
Only 1 row is needed for the shrooms & a bit of time for you to get something that Primal Sunflower can do, especially since most standard levels allow enough time for the Sun-shroom to reach it's second stage before the 2nd zombie appears on the field.
This is exactly why I prefer Sun Shroom over Primal Sunflower.

On total truth, although it's sad, Twin Sunflower is straight up the least good, it's too expensive, can't be planted instantly, amd the cooldown gets beaten by the spam the others offer. It does shine when levels restrict your planting space though.
Then, between Sunshroom and Primal (ignoring enlightenmint, which wasn't a thing in the balancing of the plant), primal sunflower will shine most of the time, because starting from BWB (or NMT in the new order), the levels get very fast, and each world becomes more rushy, which contradicts the purpose of sunshrooms being a cheap investment, with a fast level, the inmediate 75 of primal will give you what you need to survive the early first flag. If the level is slow, which still happens later on, sunhroom stands better, rivaling primal. (Night sunshroom is just better though).
Meanwhile Moonflower, yeah, she isn't really a sun producer, she's just too slow. You're better off using her just for the shadow power and bringing a real sun producer.
Also, pro tip: Don't place sun producers at the back, leave space for your expensive attackers. Each individual producer is far less valuable than an individual attacker.
Also wanted to discuss reflourished balancing rq, because being a vanilla+ mod, it's just very curious. I love how primal sunflower costs more, and giving instead hp, functioning as a wall at the cost of a bit of efficiency. Meanwhile, sunshroom grows faster, and at the same cost, being a real close call, but at the cost of hp, meaning you can't allow zombies to get close. Now they have distinct play styles that work better on a specific strategy.
Sunshrooms are better paired with melee plants that benefit being in front, or with slow recharge artillery supported with cheap attackers, like electric blueberry or hazel witch. While primal works for spams or expensive attackers that stand on their own, but are not strong and early enough to defend them, like electric peashooter or winter melon.

Gold bloom is definitely the best sun producer in my opinion cuz it literally costs 0 sun, asides from the long ass recharge, it produces lots of sun and is already available at the start of the game, Primal sunflower is also good and would hold second place
This video is mainly about the primary sun producers but I agree if we were counting gold bloom it would definitely be broken.
sun shroom + enlighten-mint is the best cause it gives the same amount of sun as the primal sunflower with three times less sun cost and instant growth due to the mint

Early is sunflower C tier
the twin sunflower D tier
Gold leaf F tier it is very useless for me
Primal sunflower is S tier since it produced many 75 early
Sun-Shroom B tier to S tier since obtaining enlighten-mint
Sun bean is B tier it's a good source of sun in the dark age but has a long cd
Moonflower my 1st time using it was kinda lame but when I figured out how to use it it was kinda good combo with the dusk lobber but when I progressed further they became useless thx to my premium plants

damn i thought there would be math in this, but it's just opinions. well anyway, i think it's sunshroom in levels with hard early game and primal sunflower in most other levels. and also i hate moonflower, the 10s recharge really holds it back

I don't know about PvZ 2 Original, but if we're talking about Reflourished version, Primal Sunflower is THE BEST SUN PRODUCER EVER
Why? Not only they produces sun, but also they have more HP compared to another sun producing plants. So they act like "semi defensive" plant.
Meanwhile, Sun Shroom and Moonflower are the worst, they only have 1 HP. Just single bite from Zombie, and they died very quickly 😑
