    Mero's Wild Thing finisher was the first time I ever saw the shooting star press. In hindsight it shows how much WWE trusted him. Plus it was quite an athletic move for a man of his size.

      Funny thing. Mick Foley tells a story in his book "Have a nice day" where he had a meeting about potential merchandise for Mankind not long after his debut with the company. During the meeting, he saw everything the WWE of the time had invested in merchandising for Marc Mero and it was huge. During the same meeting, Stone Cold walked by and asked the marketing guy when they were planning to create some Stone Cold Steve Austin merchandise and the guy literally told Austin there was no plan to ever do that. I would've loved to see that marketing guy's face when the Austin 3:16 shirt came out.

    Both Sable and Sunny eclipsed their respective mates and saw their own stock rise so strongly only to collapse as they believed their own hype. Sable also prevented Luna Vachon from even getting a brief reign as Women's Champ which is a shame! Sable wasn't meant to be a wrestler though I truly feel that she belongs in the WWE Hall of Fame.

    Marc Mero came to my middle school in Nowhere, East Texas back around '91 or '92 as Johnny Be Badd to tell us to stay off drugs. I had stopped following wrestling around that time (and never really watched WCW anyway), so I had no idea who he was. When I started watching WWF again in the late 90's, I saw Marc Mero and had no idea that was the same guy. It took me embarrassingly long to put it together. I was such a mark back then, so I never really got to appreciate people like him and Owen Hart because I hated their characters.

      Not necessarily. Sable sued, sure, but she then came back to the WWE as Vince's mistress. Also several other Hall of Famers had sued the WWE and were still admitted years later; Jesse Ventura and Ultimate Warrior being the first to immediately spring to mind.

  • @Sparkledash1

    There where 2 problems with Mero in the WWE.
    firstly, vince wanted Johnny B. Badd, not Marc Mero. I personally can't blame him, because the gimmick was great in WCW.
    secondly, which is the even bigger problem, his wife sable got most of the spotlight. It got even worse when he was for half a year. When he came back with Sable in his corner, the people only watch Meros matches because of her and nothing else.
    But like you said, it's good to know that he is still in good health, which can't be said about most wrestlers in the last 20 years.

    • @JamalService2000
      @JamalService2000 2 роки тому

      TBF, these 2 problems you can hardly blame on the man, as he was a solid hand, had a good attitude and did what was asked of him, to a fault.
      But I'm also glad he's healthy and happy, and his wrestling run did a lot of good for the business as a whole, whether directly or not.

    I remember meeting Mero in 7th grade. They had posters up for his speech and I utterly marked out hearing about it, even if I knew barely anything about his career, the fact that he was a wrestler and in the attitude era was enough for me. He gave a good speech, took some pictures, including one with me, and took questions. I remember asking him "Ever wrestler Mick Foley?" because Mick was my obsession at the time. Although ever since then I keep thinking about shit I should've asked. He was a super cool dude, and I really think he deserved to be a main eventer.

    He was a pretty good wrestler and had the charisma and was a decent talker if things would've turned out differently he could've been a bigger star in the WWF but of course thanks to the old man and his head writer at the time for being so much more infatuated with his wife that pretty much killed all his momentum.

    This guy now lives in Central Florida. He relentlessly pushes his anti-bullying self-help speeches. He's very humblebrag kind of guy. I personally find him annoying because if you listen to him talk bullying is something that's never happened before and is so deadly that it claims thousands of lives every year. He doesn't really show a lot of discrimination in scale. And he's very big on the fact that he supposedly saves all these lives. I don't know if he's a good guy, or a bad guy but between that and the fact that he supports a local far right a.m. talk show he's not my favorite guy.
    And when I say the talk show is far to the right I don't mean that they support Trump. I mean they regularly scream and yell about how the right-wing needs to take the country back by armed militia. Back from what I don't know but from the way they talk it's usually code for brown people
