They shouldn't have stopped the Renegade's push. Lots of rip-offs have done well mainly because they evolve over time, it should have just been given some growing room.
You make a good point, Demolition was a riff on the Road Warriors and for a time had the longest tag title reign in WWE, you could argue the Bullet Club is a modern day NWO, of course Ric Flair wasn't the original Nature Boy but has 16 championships to his name.
The Ultimate Warrior “character” was more universally well-liked than Jim Hellwig was. Warrior stayed in the business for as long as he wanted to, and he lived his life on his own terms. He’s a WWE Hall of Famer in spite of having sued the WWE.
@@tafua_a Another positive thing is, most human beings suck, so if a lot of humans didn't like warrior, that means warrior was probably cool. Especially in the "wrestling" business. What a bunch of twats.

I've been a fan of yours for a long time Brian and genuinely I feel like this is one of the best episodes you've ever done. Mostly that is down to you avoiding the overriding nostalgia feel that a lot of wrestling figures hold. As much as warrior was a big draw and at points very entertaining, it makes no sense to glorify as something he wasn't now that he's dead.
Cant forget the worst thing warrior ever did, he completely avoided meeting a kid at a show whos dying wish was to meet him, he just left him waiting in a hallway on a strecther and left the building as quick as he could. The self destruction of the ultimate warrior is the only documentary that shows who he really was.
Starrcade 1996 Diamond Dallas Page vs Macho Man DDP faces Macho Man at Starrcade with Diamond Dallas Page getting the shocking win after landing the Diamond Cutter to get the upset. Hollywood Hogan vs Sting-WCW World Title Hulk Hogan faces the heart & soul of WCW Sting for the WCW World Title with Hogan defeating Sting at Starrcade to end the show with Sting walking out of WCW upset at his loss.
in fairness, it doesn't seem like it would have been Hellwig's responsibility personally to tell people about that trap door. that's terrible what happened to Davey Boy, but didn't WCW have people who took care of things like that? choreographers or whatever? seems like a ridiculous oversight by the company more than Hellwig, but I don't know.
Good point. But isn't Brian looking at careers ruined by Warrior's RUN in WCW? In that case, if Warrior was never with the company, none of that awfulness would have happened unless they used the idea with someone else.
No, because the little graphic he made for it literally says "Careers ruined by The Ultimate Warrior", and he's said throughout the video that it's Warrior's fault, not his run. And you can't know that none of that would've happened if they used someone else. Maybe someone else that WCW was ripping off would've gotten someone else fired. Maybe in your hypothetical scenario of Warrior never working with WCW, James O'Barr sues Sting/WCW for ripping off The Crow and he gets fired. Maybe they use the trapdoor spot for a different feud and Bulldog, or someone else, gets injured.
+planescaped Honestly, Eric was running the entire world between Nitro, Thunder, and war with Vince. I wouldn't be surprised if he has demons he dosent acknowledge, but I am giving him a lot of credit
So I don’t see how you can count Rick Wilson as a career that Warrior ruined. Rick was given the Renegade gimmick by Hogan and WCW specifically to get at Warrior and encourage him to sign with them and provide the “real” Warrior. Then Jimmy Hart brutally destroyed his character in the ring by calling him “plain Rick”. If anything Hogan and Hart ruined Rick.
Thank you for this video!! I wasn't a fan of Ultimate Warrior as a kid or later as an adult because of many of the points you brought up here, and that he was a Hogan clone (another big muscley guy who many just had to love but couldn't wrestle). I know we all have to revere Hellwig's career now, but just like there are those who refuse to hate on Benoit after how his life ended, I can choose not to suddenly love the Warrior's work now that he's passed away
08:55 what a perfect microcosm of WCW, even ignoring Rick Steiner arguing with a recording of a puppet: Four of the absolute biggest names in professional wrestling history having an inconsequential five minute tag match on free tv that ends in a schmozz DQ.
He became complacent from letting his inner demons win due his delusions of grandeur. Its sad, but the truth is he's done and not coming back, which is a shame because he was, at one point, my favourite reviewer/entertainer.
Warrior's debut didn't run too long for TV. The entire segment was actually 3 minutes shorter than most of the NItro NWO monologues. Fans cheered Warrior the entire time !
7:09 i love that jacket Warrior has on,its so perfectly 1998 TNT its hard to describe. I half expected Maximum Overdrive to start playing directly after 😂
the problem with this match is that Hogan and the ultimate warrior both had clauses in their contract that gave them creative control so basically they just negated each other. This isn't a situation of an unmovable object versus an unstoppable object. this is equivalent of two kids playing outside and both of them say they have the superpowers to have all superpowers. both of them are looking at each other and going nut-uh this lets me win, Nut-uh this lets ME win! Hogan's creative control wouldn't let the ultimate warrior win the ultimate warrior's creative control technically shouldn't have let Hogan win. so basically it probably just came down to a seniority situation they said well Hogan's been with a company longer so his creative control supersedes the ultimate warriors. So you essentially get another Goldberg versus Brock Lesnar situation. Two giant rocks fighting each other. 🤷♂️😑😒
Did Ultimate Warrior really have creative control in WCW? It sounds kinda silly to give it to a couple of wrestlers and not the rest of them. That right there is why WCW is no longer around. I think that Jim Hellwig should have just stayed home and never gone to WCW but they probably threw a lot of money his way. His run in WCW was a disaster from start to finish. Great video Brian. I really enjoyed it.
In WCW, creative control was granted if you had a proven track record, as well as guaranteed contracts. It actually sounds silly to give it to anyone tbh.
Excluding the rare occasions when Warrior spoke softly, I had no problems understanding his promos! I thought they were imaginative and exciting! He was the Warrior from parts unknown and that could be anywhere perhaps even a parallel universe and I bought it! Just wish he hadn't butted heads with Vinnie Mac so often and wrecked his career!
Much like Hogan, I was never a fan of Warrior as a kid (Jake Roberts and Roddy Piper were my guys-I like villains, ok? Sue me. :) ), I just didn't get it. Sure, he had an energetic entrance and LOOKED great, but once he got in the ring, I was always like, Meh. By all accounts, he was a homophobic douche living on cloud cuckoo land, but now, because he's passed away, WWE want to paint him as a big hero. I respect that Warrior was massively over in his heyday, and his death was untimely-not to mention eerie, but the whole thing did and does smack of hypocrisy. His WCW run was especially awful-that mirror segment still cracks me up to this day. Unintentional comedy at its finest. On an unrelated note Brian, massive congrats on the new arrival! :)
Warrior wasn't for everyone, I agree. But the ones he did reach, he inspired and motivated like no other. Guys like warrior had me constantly doing push-ups etc. Name me ONE wrestler on todays card that has even half the influence warrior had. All the wrestlers today COMBINED couldn't sell near the number of tshirts or tickets. Warrior made wrestling believable, even as far out as he was. You could tell this guy was no fraud
He actually explained the "queering doesn't make the world work" thing later on. It wasn't just a crazy outburst, he apparently meant that if everyone were homosexual the human race would go extinct, whereas the same cannot be said for heterosexuals. So, technically, he was right... although I don't know to what end, and it was definitely a ridiculous way of making that particular statement. It'd be controversial no matter how he said it, whether it's true or not, but the non-word "queering" certainly didn't help matters.
asicsjohnson That's not actually true anymore, considering advances in science mean sperm and eggs can be stored and incubated in an unrelated parent. Also females can be cloned without genetic material from males. Semantics I know, but I thinks it's worth noting
asicsjohnson I hope you aren't trying to defend him. The entire world being homosexual is literally a hypothetical situation created just to bash homosexuals.
Blaze Thunder That's a baseless statement. None of the studies indicate that children raised by same sex couples are any more negatively affected by their upbringing than by heterosexual couples.
Ultimate Warrior is who got me into wrestling. My all time favorite character. Don't care what he did outside of wrestling. Plus his look in WCW was amazing. Wish they would've actually done something with him there.
Not sure if there is any truth to this, but I heard rumors that WCW actually attempted to bring in The Warrior in 1994-95 to team with Hogan. But at some point, the negotiations obviously fell through. They were then forced to go with “plan B” a look alike with similar mannerisms. If you followed the angle leading up to the reveal it definitely implies that The Original Ultimate Warrior is the person being referred to.
I love The Warrior, he's my favorite professional wrestler of all time. I think your video was, for the most part, pretty fair as far as the barbs against him go. I don't, however, think it's safe to say that Warrior ruined the careers of Richard Wilson or British Bulldog. With The Renegade, he very clearly ripped off The Warrior. Being called out and then not allowed to continue ripping someone off is not the original's fault. It'd be like if someone made "Wrestling With Regret" starring "Bryan Zane", and then blaming you for it going under. Considering they very well tried to continue pushing him with the same name, as you yourself showed us, the person to blame for his lack of success when no longer able to rip someone off either goes to WCW for not pushing him properly, or Rich himself for failing to get over, not someone whose only crime in this instance was not wanting to be ripped off. As for Bulldog, it's not Warrior's fault that so many wrestlers were uninformed about the trapdoor. He didn't drop Bulldog onto it, he didn't make anyone take a bump onto it. You may as well say that Owen Hart's death was Undertaker's fault for not making triply sure that his harness was secure. It's not their job to be in charge of everything else going on in the company.
I've seen this video like 4 times and it only occurred to me now that they gave away Bret and Hogan vs Warrior and Sting on TV with no build. The crazy part is that Warrior and Hogan had full creative control so WCW isn't to blame
Warrior could've made WCW really interesting had they been able to do it right. First the war with Hogan (personally i loved the man in the mirror shit lol) then having a chance to reuntie the blade runners for a bit longer, then have a Sting vs Warrior feud, Warrior Vs Goldberg (what an interesting match that could've been)
I’m surprised WCW didn’t think to cast Warrior as a heel he was pretty much the epitome of everything most WCW fans hated so it could have worked well to go in that direction. I could see him using sort of a cult leader type gimmick where he would lead a faction and exert a certain level of mind control over the members of it.
As odd as it is to think about and he would probably never agree to it and Warrior would have had to have joined WCW much sooner, I can picture Warrior as a member of The Dungeon of Doom. The storyline could have been he was initially a friend of Hogan against DOD early in Hogan's WCW run before either betraying Hogan of his own free will and joining DOD or perhaps DOD kidnapping and brain washing him maybe a combination of things. The storyline could have been told that DOD had a member who Hogan has never beaten/can’t beat in Warrior and this sets the stage for their rematch. A face Hogan taking on a heel Warrior now backed by The Dungeon of Doom/Alliance to End HulkaMania

Say it every time, but your stuff is still my fav wrestling UA-cam content. I especially love these random topics that you talk about so well. You actually show the vids with some great explanations and custom imagery. Please keep making these, man!!
The comedy in this episode was perfectly on point. Good job Brian!
Facts
Warrior kept his jacket on during the Sting tag match because he tore his bicep at war games. that's why he stayed out of the ring most of the time
Zane... How do you do it, man?
I don't know what you have going on behind the scenes - if it's just you or if you have help - but either way, your dedication to your channel is inspiring... especially given your life circumstances at the moment.
Just wanted to take a moment and thank you for your hard work and dedication to providing us with great content.
I really am amazed you get all this done AND have a wife and children (a newborn to boot!)
IF you ARE working alone then it's all the more impressive.
Thanks again for everything you do
S.P.
Thanks so much for the kind words! I do work on this show by myself 99% of the time, but I'm fortunate to have a very supportive family that keeps me going (not to mention an awesome fanbase)!
I love Russo's face over Hogan's when he said Ultimate Swerve 😂😂
I swear it feels like Russo must have worked with WCW at the time if something like THIS was said.
20 years later, I still hear the Warrior from his grave talking about the ultimate destrucity.
Expecting WCW to make sensible decisions or giving stuff time to grow, surely you jest.

The Ultimate Warrior “character” was more universally well-liked than Jim Hellwig was. Warrior stayed in the business for as long as he wanted to, and he lived his life on his own terms. He’s a WWE Hall of Famer in spite of having sued the WWE.
One of the positive things you could say about him is, he got in, got rich and got out.
@@tafua_a Another positive thing is, most human beings suck, so if a lot of humans didn't like warrior, that means warrior was probably cool. Especially in the "wrestling" business. What a bunch of twats.
Your Warrior impersonation is amazing LMFAO
The Guy doing the Warrior spoof in the muscle suit was hilarious.
I'm going to write Mattel and get a Renegade figure going. The guy deserves permanence.
man, how long did all the extra effects and cut scenes take? I loved all of them, you really pulled out all the stops, your extra effort does not go unnoticed!
9:49 There's also Vince's theme: "Up against a machine too strong
Greedy politicians buying souls from us are PUPPETS!"
Also Warrior using kidnapping and brain washing to get to Hogan....and HE'S THE FACE!!?
This is NOOTTTTT the Ultimate Warrior.

Why doesn't this channel have 5x the amount of subs it has right now? Great quality Zane, keep it up
this and the brawl for all are two of the videos I watch after a rough day. The impression of the warrior is so awesome. it makes me laugh every time I see it.
"Censored (for sucking)" and Warrior imitation has me dying!
That Warrior promo you did was awesome Brian!!!
Why did he avoid him?
Probably high on coke and forgot.
@@mike04574 warrior didnt wanna put that dying kid over

Puppet H! "Are You Serious" was such a good show
Starrcade 1996
Diamond Dallas Page vs Macho Man
DDP faces Macho Man at Starrcade with Diamond Dallas Page getting the shocking win after landing the Diamond Cutter to get the upset.
Hollywood Hogan vs Sting-WCW World Title
Hulk Hogan faces the heart & soul of WCW Sting for the WCW World Title with Hogan defeating Sting at Starrcade to end the show with Sting walking out of WCW upset at his loss.
Y'know, in hindsight, Chucky was right. Seeing his movie instead of watching anything involving Warrior was the right call.
One of your best videos yet good work man. I have no idea why but i still love the warrior he is like my ultimate guilty wrestling pleasure
They dropped the fucking ball with a great backstory. I was a kid when I watched their epic WWF Championship bout.
I would want to see Zane rip apart the Shitty Hulk Hogan storylines.

in fairness, it doesn't seem like it would have been Hellwig's responsibility personally to tell people about that trap door. that's terrible what happened to Davey Boy, but didn't WCW have people who took care of things like that? choreographers or whatever? seems like a ridiculous oversight by the company more than Hellwig, but I don't know.
Good point. But isn't Brian looking at careers ruined by Warrior's RUN in WCW? In that case, if Warrior was never with the company, none of that awfulness would have happened unless they used the idea with someone else.
Eric Bishof was and is a horrible person. I don't know why he get's a free pass for all he did. He's just as bad, if not worse than Vince Russo.
I wouldn't be surprised if he has demons he dosent acknowledge, but I am giving him a lot of credit
eric is horrible
Am I the only one who can't take the Warrior Award seriously?
Well the fact that the WWE completely changed what Warrior wanted the award to be I'm guessing no.
Eddie W. I have trouble believing Triple H was willing to job to Connor...
I fell you bro. Especially knowing that Warrior was glad Bobby Heenan got cancer.
Homestarfan13 Its still nice they are honoring brave people with life-shorting diseases. That's at least something.
Warrior was a piece of shit
13:01
"YUUUHHH! ZANE!!!"
I laughed so hard, milk came out of my nose.
And he wasn't drinking milk!
Dude that warrior yell gets me crying every time 🤣😂😭😆😅
WHAT IS THAT AUDITORY SIGNAL??
I normally don't drop likes for one sole thing in a video, but that puppet skit made me laugh unreasonably hard, and that's when I do so
08:55 what a perfect microcosm of WCW, even ignoring Rick Steiner arguing with a recording of a puppet: Four of the absolute biggest names in professional wrestling history having an inconsequential five minute tag match on free tv that ends in a schmozz DQ.
I mean this is pretty damning, but I would argue that the death of Renegade and the injury of Bulldog were on WCW management's head.
We need a match between Zane Warrior and Spoony Warrior :D
Or the Ultimate Savage vs Zane Warrior vs Spoony Warrior.
Go Spoony!
Brett the Hitman who knows at this point, he's active on twitter last I checked, but hasn't made a video in a while
He became complacent from letting his inner demons win due his delusions of grandeur. Its sad, but the truth is he's done and not coming back, which is a shame because he was, at one point, my favourite reviewer/entertainer.
He might be coming back. Granted, right now it's just "Doing what I can". But for me, hope dies last.
I heard the Warrior's entrance music playing at a New England Patriots pre-season game a few weeks ago...I think he was over.
Warrior's debut didn't run too long for TV. The entire segment was actually 3 minutes shorter than most of the NItro NWO monologues. Fans cheered Warrior the entire time !
Been going thru watching all these again. Always entertaining, Zane.
Homeless people on heavy drugs sometimes talk to me. It's like having my own personal Warrior rants made just for me.
7:09 i love that jacket Warrior has on,its so perfectly 1998 TNT its hard to describe. I half expected Maximum Overdrive to start playing directly after 😂
I'm offended by this video. Bride of Chucky was awesome!
the problem with this match is that Hogan and the ultimate warrior both had clauses in their contract that gave them creative control so basically they just negated each other.
This isn't a situation of an unmovable object versus an unstoppable object.
this is equivalent of two kids playing outside and both of them say they have the superpowers to have all superpowers.
both of them are looking at each other and going nut-uh this lets me win,
Nut-uh this lets ME win!
🤷♂️😑😒
Can we see Brian Zane vs Spoony in an Ultimate Warrior batshit promo-off? Pleeeease?
Surprised Zane didn't go for an Oprah Network joke in reference to One Warrior Nation (I'm calling OWN that from now on, by the way).
Richard Wilson was in WCW?
I don't believe it!
[sits back and watches UK audience groan and the rest stare blankly]
9:32 hey Brian ,what do you say after Lilly 😂😂
After 4:13 there really needed to be a clip of Tommy Wiseau's "It's NAAAAAHT" inserted
Can you imagine the brain damage you would get in a triple threat promo between the warrior Scott Steiner and Sid vicious?
So in a way you don't like villains, since you don't like Hogan and Warrior who, as we know now, are not as much heroes as their characters are.
Dread Baron shouldn't you be watching pokemon?
I meant onscreen wrestling villains-apologies if I didn't specify there.
SupaStah01 Where did that come from?
brian have you ever made a bad video....i love your content dont stop keep it going I'm subbed and i hit the bell
Yeah he said the exact same thing when I saw him in late 2010.
asicsjohnson I hope you aren't trying to defend him. The entire world being homosexual is literally a hypothetical situation created just to bash homosexuals.
How?
Blaze Thunder
That's a baseless statement. None of the studies indicate that children raised by same sex couples are any more negatively affected by their upbringing than by heterosexual couples.
I love that you referenced Are You Serious Road Dogg was hilarious on that show
Ultimate Warrior is who got me into wrestling.
12:03 I think you mean self-destroosed.
I still can’t stop laughing at Renegade on the motorcycle.
Don't forget Hogan vs. Warrior II was one of only 5 matches to get a minus star review from Dave Meltzer.
Warrior could've made WCW really interesting had they been able to do it right. First the war with Hogan (personally i loved the man in the mirror shit lol) then having a chance to reuntie the blade runners for a bit longer, then have a Sting vs Warrior feud, Warrior Vs Goldberg (what an interesting match that could've been)
Didn't Disciple get fired after the Warrior feud ended? Wouldn't that bring the count up to 4?
No, Disciple was Brother Bruti, so as long as Hogan's good, so is he.
Wasn't the Disciple yet another name for Ed "Bojack Horseman" Leslie?
vcom741 - Yep.
I swear he had like 5 names in WCW
zodiac, disciple, booty man, am i missing any?
If I remember correctly, he's had 15 gimmicks between his WWE and WCW careers combined.
