Whenever I tell that guy that the way is clear, he runs off towards the other direction, deeper into the caves where all the Lakelurks are. And then he dies.
I was playing this quest just yesterday and the exact same thing happened to me too. So i ended up running trying to follow him and keep him alive. Got all the way to the very last room, killed the Lakelurks and their King...Then I turn around and Private Halford was dead. He joined his dead buddies after all.
Really drives home just how poorly thought the NCR's reach for the Mojave was given just how understaffed, overstretched, and how bogged down they are with incompetents.
What happened was hugely in part due to Chief Hanlon's antics. He was sending out wrong Intel to the Ranger camps. They were getting supplies they didn't need and none that were. Oxhorn made a video of that quest called "Return to Sender".
That's why I always go independent. NCR and legion are severely flawed in many ways, and the locals clearly hold no love or loyalty to the NCR, as they step all over the little settlements and annex and tax them do death, and nobody wants vegas to become the slave capital of the west, so the legion is hated by all across the other side of the colorado. House is too ambitious with space colonization, yet is heartless towards the people outside of the strip. I wish the developers had more time to develop the game, because no matter how much good i do and no matter how much i do to keep order, freeside always seems to turn archaic, yet despite the king's ending describing how freeside is one of the most stable places in the region, which makes no sense. If bethesda weren't cunts and forced development to end early, the ending wouldn't have been so contradicting.
I used the Dog tag weapon to beat Caesar to death with my NCR character. It seemed poetic in a way. Also is it just me or would the story of Camp Guardian really lend itself to a mini horror series.
I wasnt able to watch your videos for almost two weeks (we moved, holidays came inbetween and still no internet at home!!) and when I heard your soothing voice again it was just amazing! Like coming back to an old friend. Ox, my husband and I reaaally like your videos and appreciat the tight schedule you keep! Thanks for your amazing work!
This was one of the few New Vegas quests that felt underbaked to me, like they didn't have enough time to truly flesh it out. It's missing a lot of the twists and turns most quests in that game have. Feels more like a Fallout 4 quest in that regard. Just go in, shoot a bunch of monsters, get some loot. The fact that you can't talk to anyone about it afterward, like you pointed out, makes it a bit anticlimactic. I usually skip this one on replays.
Mickey Lee Bukowski Might have been one of the last quests they worked on before release. They only had 2 years to make this. Besides, if the most disappointing quest is the same level of quality as fallout 4, then that says a lot about all the other quests and how good they are.

Personally I think if obsidian (remnants of black isle basically) had the time they wanted and werent on a clock from bethesda that it wouldve been released in 2012 or 2013 it wouldve been alot more developed character dialogue with a view on legion life accompanied with a way to play afterwards and see the effects you had on new vegas and a trip to new reno they helped on 1 & 2 so you know these guys got merit
You know Ox, I stumbled on your channel while looking how to properly mod Fallout 4 and then I simply got hook up: between your passion and your narrative skills it's impossible not to check if there is a new video up already, especially when you handle multi episode stories, like the recent Honest Hearts. I've never found this location in my 10 or so playthroughs of fallout new Vegas, cool little side story. makes me think that sometimes, just sometimes the legion or house do have a point.
No matter how incompetent the NCR is, I really just can't help but see how their leadership is one of the best possible outcomes for new Vegas. Legion and House IMO are the worst, but even then I can see how House is good for Vegas too.
Devan Weathers House ultimately wanted to create a space colony to transport people to. I'm guessing he didn't want to risk any NCR interference. I don't care for House, either, but he's definitely "good, but severely flawed".
The NCR is flawed in MANY ways, however they are by far the best choice to actually take charge of the wastelands, and that says a lot about the other factions walking around, the only faction that would be of a higher standard would be the reformed minutemen.
Independent way is best way, NCR has all the flaws of prewar America and Legion is so fucked up that i never consider it as a choice to go but a brainwashed slavers and fascists needed to be pacified

When I first discovered Camp Guardian, I didn't even know about the radio signal. It was eerie, just reading the scattered notes as "Thorn in My Side" (ambient track) played. Obsidian did a great job with building the environment.
I had no idea where to take Halford's note and I did not want to search everyone at every NCR outpost for new dialogue options, so thank you, you saved me a lot of time!
Came here because I was missing one page and wanted help finding it. Found it in the first few minutes but stayed because the video was so good. Nicely done!
i encountered a glitch in this area. i cleared out the caves, and exited from the water route. but then i quick traveled up to the top of the mountain and realized the guy wouldnt go away. so i had to go all the way back through the caves and go out the regular way before i could get him to leave. although now that i think about it i could have used the guy as an extra companion if i just decided to keep him

Is the mod just random military uniforms? 3) the ncr are not nazi's. they are the closest things to the old American government. While I prefer a free Vegas, the ncr isn't bad like everyone says.
Watching these videos on some of the more obscure locations has made me really realize just how mediocre some of the voice acting in NV is. And people say Benny was bad. Sheesh.

The only way too heal him or give him armor was too sneak it into his inventory and wait a day. I did a test by giving him a bunch of gear and i went on too the sierra Madre quest. He spawned with me at the fountain and fought until he died and i retrieved all his gear.
I just got the rebreather from the Boomers and was looking around underwater and found the caves. So I basically did the quest backwards. I killed every Mirelurk left at the peak. I started to descend when I noticed pages and tried to find them all. I only went back into the cave because I thought more pages were down there. It's funny that The private was like "Oh, we killed them all. Thanks for your help." I didn't even see him the first time.
2 things you didn't address in the video. 1- the soldiers at bravo camp mention the camp and how they haven't radioed in, in a while. 2- If you exit the bottom cave (lake Mead exit) there is a boat about 20 metres out underwater, with a load of casino chips scattered all around it on the lake floor.
This video should give everybody watching a better understanding of the US military. It sheds light on the daily BS we have to deal with, and I hope this opens people's eyes to the struggle and makes the next soldiers coming in to fix the issue.
i visited ranger station bravo, before looking for camp guardian. the first thing comm officer tilden told me, was that they haven't heard anything from camp guardian in a few days. didn't give me a quest, but this dialog showed me the location on my map.
I killed the lakelurks after my 3rd run of tryna to keep him alive, I didn’t fix his leg and he just sits there. I tried waiting but he never left, I hope he doesn’t die because of his leg and in my mind I hope he’s back home in California
In my first play through I completely walked passed him and just clear the lakelurks. It wasn't till I was watching a similar video did I go back to help him in the 2nd
Everytime I see more of these awesome NV lore videos, it makes me wish some group would take the FO4 engine and remake the game, like is being done with Oblivion and Morrowwind with the Skyrim engine. Ah well. Thankfully, NV still holds up wonderfully today.
When I first picked up the Camp Guardian distress beacon I thought it was going to be another place where everyone was dead and no one survived. So when I found the Private and fought the Lakelurks to get him out, it was a nice end.
This seems eerily familiar, oh wait this is what goes on in the Army all the time, you know getting deployed and someone forgot to add an extra 0 to your mag count and you end up with more rifles than magazines. Or those tank parts you needed never got ordered cause PLL wanted to go home so you are stuck out there in the middle of a desert with a messed up hydro pump and end up burning out your main and aux hydro pumps. Good times.
There's a glitch by the fence of lake Mead...I don't remember if it's at the bottom or top..top I think if I remember correctly but if you do the jump right..can get behind the lake fence and get around to all the land behind...it takes you up to the road leading to the Legion's end camp..can't get down to the camp but can snipe a bit.
When I told the survivor that the entrance to the cave was clear he got up and went DEEPER into the cave running ahead of me and going on a killing spree until he was eventually killed by the king.
The NCR is doing what became the downfall of ancient Rome. Over-expansion. This is a clear case of it and really highlights that the NCR is not ready to move into the Mojave. Even though the dam would be a boon for their presence and allow them command a forward operating base to branch out even further, I think they bit off more than they can chew. If the NCR has any hope of occupying the Mojave as a force to be reckoned with they need to pull back, reorganize and plan out their strategy with fresh troops, supplies, and morale. They need to position themselves in the Mojave in areas that give them an advantage to any other invading forces from the east. In the end, with the right leadership at the head of the NCR Mojave division anything is possible. I'd like to see the NCR and BoS forge an alliance if only to keep the Legion at bay. If these 'good' factions banded together for the most basic cause they have in common, I believe it will transform the wastelands of North America. Sadly, this idea is a fantasy :(
I could've sworn there was some sort of boss in the cave. Before you reach it, the private abandons you. I remember a response being "you said you'd help clear out the cave first" but he just says he's sorry and leaves anyway. Maybe its the same as what you got, but you had already cleared them all out by that point anyway.

i visited ranger station bravo, before looking for camp guardian.
the first thing comm officer tilden told me, was that they haven't heard anything from camp guardian in a few days.
didn't give me a quest, but this dialog showed me the location on my map.
I killed the lakelurks after my 3rd run of tryna to keep him alive, I didn’t fix his leg and he just sits there. I tried waiting but he never left, I hope he doesn’t die because of his leg and in my mind I hope he’s back home in California
In my first play through I completely walked passed him and just clear the lakelurks. It wasn't till I was watching a similar video did I go back to help him in the 2nd

Everytime I see more of these awesome NV lore videos, it makes me wish some group would take the FO4 engine and remake the game, like is being done with Oblivion and Morrowwind with the Skyrim engine. Ah well. Thankfully, NV still holds up wonderfully today.

When I first picked up the Camp Guardian distress beacon I thought it was going to be another place where everyone was dead and no one survived. So when I found the Private and fought the Lakelurks to get him out, it was a nice end.

I accidentally found him while swimming and finding a hole in the ground but his dialogue was lacking so I thought I did something wrong.
This seems eerily familiar, oh wait this is what goes on in the Army all the time, you know getting deployed and someone forgot to add an extra 0 to your mag count and you end up with more rifles than magazines. Or those tank parts you needed never got ordered cause PLL wanted to go home so you are stuck out there in the middle of a desert with a messed up hydro pump and end up burning out your main and aux hydro pumps. Good times.

There's a glitch by the fence of lake Mead...I don't remember if it's at the bottom or top..top I think if I remember correctly but if you do the jump right..can get behind the lake fence and get around to all the land behind...it takes you up to the road leading to the Legion's end camp..can't get down to the camp but can snipe a bit.
You can also steal those dog tags "recompense of the fallen" in the desk of that legionary that is in charge of cottonwood cove.
Been playing this game for years, but even now i find more stuff i haven't seen before

The bedroll at the top is for a designated marksman or a sniper to lay on and keep watch.
Was bummed about the lost men too. Quest really had that Hills Have Eyes 2 vibe.

When I told the survivor that the entrance to the cave was clear he got up and went DEEPER into the cave running ahead of me and going on a killing spree until he was eventually killed by the king.
Dog Tag Fists are the easiest weapon to sneak in to zones that disarm you like casinos.
Tried to save him, but he ran back into the cave after getting to an exit and ended up being killed by lakelurks... the idiot

The NCR is doing what became the downfall of ancient Rome. Over-expansion. This is a clear case of it and really highlights that the NCR is not ready to move into the Mojave. Even though the dam would be a boon for their presence and allow them command a forward operating base to branch out even further, I think they bit off more than they can chew. If the NCR has any hope of occupying the Mojave as a force to be reckoned with they need to pull back, reorganize and plan out their strategy with fresh troops, supplies, and morale. They need to position themselves in the Mojave in areas that give them an advantage to any other invading forces from the east. In the end, with the right leadership at the head of the NCR Mojave division anything is possible. I'd like to see the NCR and BoS forge an alliance if only to keep the Legion at bay. If these 'good' factions banded together for the most basic cause they have in common, I believe it will transform the wastelands of North America. Sadly, this idea is a fantasy :(

I could've sworn there was some sort of boss in the cave. Before you reach it, the private abandons you. I remember a response being "you said you'd help clear out the cave first" but he just says he's sorry and leaves anyway. Maybe its the same as what you got, but you had already cleared them all out by that point anyway.
