The fact that Dylan didn't recognize Chris Pratt until he took off his sunglasses proves that the Marvel trope of main characters wearing baseball caps and sunglasses as disguises is 100% effective
Jennifer saying "my tit" when she was stabbed shows us that even in a life or death situation, Jennifer is still prioritizing her physical appearance because she has always believed that is her greatest power and the reason she has worth

@@isabelleegarcia3255 no, she was talking about CRAIG, the boy that hit on Jennifer when she first got to the bar. he was a student at the school and best friends w the jock she killed I've seen this movie an unhealthy amount of times
Dylan: *sees Chris Pratt for 2 min of the movie* Dylan: where’s Chris Pratt go. He’s coming back right. He has to come back. Where Pratty Pratt. He’s definitely gonna show up. He has too. I need him to.
Fun Fact: this movie was actually targeted towards woman and not men, and people think that’s the main reason it flopped. Because the trailers advertised Megan fox and they thought it was going to be a hot Megan fox movie (it is) but not about her killing men
yeah I saw that on Twitter and how it was supposed to be about the toxicity of female teenage relationships. I think it would've been way more successful if it were marketed at girls
yh the marketing turned me off at least at the time. I didnt realize that the main story was about a toxic friendship, I thought it was just sexy megan murdering people, and the "oh the hot chick is dangerous" marketing really bored the heck out of me

17:06 when you pointed out how megan fox as jennifer undressing in that scene made u alarmed it perfectly captures why this movie flopped so hard. marketers made this film seem like some raunchy film for boys where she’s constantly eye candy, but the camera and jennifer use that sex appeal as a form of preying on the men, rather than men preying on her…
There is a really cool video called " Jennifer's body and the horrors of bad marketing" that does an analysis on how the markening team tried to sell the movie to men cause it had megan fox in it, thinking it would be better than marketing how the screenwriter meant it, for women. Also it talks about how the movie's intention was to talk about the parasitic nature of some female friendships.
The irony of dylan missing the entire point of the movie (satire, assault and revenge plot, womens friendships) is hilarious. This is a grade A example of a man not understanding a film purely because its plot is centered around a womans experience, and showcasing how everything in life ends up revolving around men.
Jesus Christ it's written reaction not analysis, he's not taking this movie seriously at all, that's for most movie he reacts to. You guys are too caught up in you fantasy surrounding this movie and how good it is (it isn't, good message, terrible execution), that you can't see the obvious.
Well, he got mean girls and that was about girls' relationships. So maybe he didn't get this one because it was poorly portrayed. I didn't get it either the first time I watched it and I'm a girl, but I bet noone would accuse me of that because I'm a girl. And he was actually excited about the male characters because he LOVES the actors portraying them and I get that
I think you took a few of those scenes a bit too literally. For example, you took that fight scene at the end where Needy yanks off Jennifer's BFF necklace and Jennifer falls as the necklace giving her powers. Definitely too literal. The meaning was, these are best friends who have been best friends since childhood. When Needy yanks off the necklace, she's basically "breaking up" with Jennifer. Jennifer, who honestly thought there was nothing Needy wouldn't forgive her for, came to that crashing realization that her best friend, the one person she admitted that she would *never* truly physically harm, had abandoned her and so she gave up. It's not that the necklace gave her powers, it's that Jennifer stopped fighting when the necklace, the symbol of their friendship, was ripped away.
Exactly! Dylan does sometimes take some things in movies to literal and that's why he at times doesn't really get the metaphors or satire in certain scenes.
If you’re talking about Twilight, the book Twilight was published in 2005. It was a book originally not intended to be read by anyone but Meyer and her family. The book series was finished in 2008, when the first movie was released. So, incorrect
Right I just feel like it was too ahead of the rolling trends. 09 wasn’t the time for comedy driven horror. A few years later and this movie would’ve done better I feel.
I watched it when I was like 10 lmao what was I doinggg. Anyways I only remembered a few scenes like the les makeout and the tongue lighter scene so it was like watching it for the first time again.
u didn’t notice the last part when needy stab jennifer , it looks like she’s not dead she became fresh again her skin is not so pale anymore bc she came back being a human not a demon
She's definitely dead, Needy stabbed her in the heart. But after she died, she looked like her normal, human self because Needy killed the demon and it left her body.
it’s weird bc she was the popular girl in Mean Girls. It was the same with Molly Ringwald. She was the nerd in Pretty In Pink but the popular girl in Breakfast Club😂
The fact that none of you obviously went to high school where there were a lot of girls who were cute and pretty, but were still unpopular due to their lack of interest in their physical appearance and because they didn't have an extroverted personality, is sad. Why do you think girls suddenly become popular in teen movies? Because they have a MAKEUP transformation. Slap on some makeup and put any girl in the right outfit, then people will start noticing them. But, a lot of girls (no matter what society thinks) just keep to themselves and have an awkward personality. Many of them aren't good with people, and those are the outcasts who sit to the side. Besides, what freaking qualifies as an ugly and nerdy girl? Compared to Megan Fox, she is the ugly nerdy friend.
@@bonks49k33 first off, why is that sad? Second, outcast? Not being popular necessarily make you an outcast. Third, Not wearing clothes that doesnt draw attention to you doesnt mean that that person dont care about their appearance. Some women dont like makeup or just have a different style. It's so odd how you categorize peope who just happen to be not as known as others. It's weird. It's like you're either thus or that. Some people just like to keep to themselves.
Regardless of the comment controversy on symbolism, I would like to point out the band murdering the girl scenes are entirely based on a real life murder done to a girl named Elyse Pahler in the name of a satanic sacrifice by a band (which included sexual assault and necrophilia). You can look it up, the movie's portrayal is actually a lot more mild compared to what happened in reality.
Zahra M it shows the crime scene photos from the band’s hotel room. They are all dead and then you see security footage of a bunch of groupies heading down the hallway and then Needy in her hoodie.
when needy ripped off the bff necklace it didn't physically take away jennifer's powers but it shocked her because she realized she officially lost her best friend and this wasn't just another fight that they could brush off later. and a best friend is the most important relationship for teenage girls so losing that is like losing everything. i feel like dylan missed a lot of points the movie was making (and also the ending credits scene).
That’s literally everyone when this movie came out. That’s why it flopped in 2009 and it was marketed wrong- it was marketed for dudes to see Megan Fox naked and a lesbian and left disappointed. I loved this movie back then and I still do :)

watching him react to this makes me realize more and more just how much this movie was made for women. so much of the overall analogy is going right over his head and you can especially see that in his cheering of adam brody’s character on the screen and the way he sexualizes megan. i understand this is meant to be a dark comedy/thriller but i just find it very fascinating that he sort of plays into the stereotype of men watching this, while obviously using more critical thinking. while women are able to see how the men are manipulated by megan, dylan seemingly falls into her trap with the rest of them. i really enjoyed this considering i had only seen women react to before and i liked seeing a different perspective.
@@insertreferencehere.8066 i know that i’m not shaming him at all. i was just pointing out how i thought his perspective (which is different from my own) was interesting to watch

You really just sat there talking about how they should have added a scene or did something with the band BUT IF YOU WOULD HAVE JUST KEPT WATCHING FOR 5 MORE MINUTES INTO THE CREDITS you would have seen that it does show Amanda go to a hotel and slaughter the entire band in their room But NOOOO Dylan you impatient beanpole you just couldn't wait

i think the horror in the beginning of the movie when the band is sacrificing jennifer is meant to resonate with women/femme presenting people more than anything. men might be able to understand what the scene means, but i doubt many would understand just how terrifying the it can be. along with that, there's other references to SA in this as well. like roman (who is definitely an adult) sleeping with jennifer, an actual high school student.
Right, and a police cadet… Plus she says she lost her backdoor vįrgınītÿ to him which really hurt all next day which… it doesn’t need to be *that* bad like it depends but its another point against him.
I was thinking the same thing, i watched this when i was young and I remember the ending like the band was just a mess at the end! They got murdered in the hotel
Needy: "I thought you only ate men" Jennifer: "I go both ways" . LITERALLY THE BISEXUAL QUEEN. And you can't forget the makeout scene. My bisexual awakening 👀🏳️🌈
I’ve watched so many commentary videos on this movie and didn’t even realize they were all be female creators until I saw this video and couldn’t believe how much he was missing the point. Yes it’s a comedy, yes it has some cringey outdated humor, but it deals with some heavy shit. For me at least, it’s really clear that the whole deal with Jennifer and the band is an allegory for SA, and the joke about the van being an “89 rapist” wasn’t trying to be edgy, it was calling out what Needy was almost certain happened to Jennifer at that point. Idk, something about Dylan laughing at it all rubbed me the wrong way.
@@Brae1313 literally why do women watch this guy? He's completely inauthentic in his support of women and capitalizes on their desperation for male empathy
Also her “audition” for transformers was to wash Michael Bay’s car in a bikini. I believe she just turned 18 when that happened. Ugh he’s such a freak.
She had just turned 18 when the first transformers movie came out and she was actually 15 when she got hired for bad boys 2 which was the scene Megan said in the interview that they sexualized her. Not long after she had to do the washing car audition to get hired for Transformers, when she was still 15. I think she began filming the movie when she was 16 going on 17. So it goes a lot to say yeah grown ass men really did hella sexualize a teenage girl 😕
Then don't take the job. Do you feel like you're being sexualized and exploited? Don't work for the person who's trying to exploit you. Where were her parents when she was 15 auditioning in a bikini? She was fine with it at the time obviously and then came back 10 years later to make a big Ruckus. It makes no sense
The reason why this movie flopped: Women didn't want to watch it because of Megan's hypersexual reputation and saw this movie as too "objectifying". Men didn't like this movie because they didn't get to see Megan Fox naked. (No really, that was actually one of the complaints in a review) Overall, no one understood that this was the whole point of the movie - women who embrace their sexuality are demonized by the public. I mean yeah, the dialogue is cringey but it's no better than other cult classics like Mean Girls and She's the Man. Megan Fox could never get serious acting gigs because she was 'too beautiful' yet 'too outspoken' when men tried to take advantage of her. A lot of women did not support Megan because they assume she is a willing participant in how men and the media sexualize her.
No - this movie flopped because people didn’t take Megan Fox seriously and the marketing for this movie was trash. After seeing her in transformers and on so many magazine covers - people were sick of her and annoyed by her. Men weren’t interested in the movie because it wasn’t advertised as there being anything in here they would like. The trailer and it staring both Megan and Amanda Seyfried would leave men to believe it to be some “stupid high school chick movie” with a twist. Which is why the kiss between the 2 of them was heavily publicized and also in the trailer- to try to bait men. This movie back then wasn’t necessarily seen as a commentary or a satire, it was just seen as a bad film with bad dialogue. It is a smart movie in ways - but Mean Girls IS a much smarter movie with way way way better dialogue. At least Mean Girls dialogue is super quotable and has aged well. Things like “Cheese and fries!” Or “it smells like Chinese food in here have you 2 been fucking??” Is VERY cringey and hasn’t aged well at all. The reason this movie is considered underrated now is because people are starting to see what they were going for when it was made.
This movie has got nothing to do with "women who embrace their sexuality are demonised". It's about female relationships and how toxic they can be. It's also about the insecurities girls can have if their best friend is incredibly beautiful and the sexual tension between girls. The director herself explains this. The succubus part is just a backdrop; the entire movie is about Jennifer and Needy's relationship, how Jennifer wants to be with Needy but Needy wants to be with Chip which is why Jennifer dislikes him; she's essentially fighting for Needy's attention and why she "likes" the guys that Needy likes.
@@peachesandcream8753 welp, Jennifer suffered because of her sexuality, the band thought she was a virgin, but her being not one made her into a demon. I do think it's related to how women's worth is tied to her sexuality or lack thereof. And that also, ironically, bled into the reception of the movie.
I think a lot of ppl would benefit in looking up the interviews with the directors Bc you are 100% correct. There’s also the fact that this movie was made for women & girls and men were mad about that Bc ya know...this also contributed to how underrated it is. Bc of course anything made for girls automatically isn’t taken seriously.
I was a teenage girl when Jennifer’s Body was out and watched it in cinema almost as soon as it was released. however, the meaning was missed by me as well. I could blame the toxic atmosphere of the mostly male audience I was a part of, or the movie being shot in a way that doesn’t properly convey it themes, but honestly it’s not that at all, perhaps I just wasn’t open to the idea that Megan Fox could be casted in a movie that isn’t only about sex, or perhaps I didn’t even try to analyse it and devour its contents in my mind. and it’s not Megan’s fault. I saw JB trailer before that and assumed it was filmed by men for men, and everything that makes it the cult classic now was just mistakenly taken as a weird choice of producers who were targeting male teenagers mixing sex, gore and supernatural antics. chill out and don’t take everything so seriously. being misunderstanding isn’t really a result of a conscious process. it’s not like Dylan specifically silences strong female themes in cinema because it’s a part of his agenda or something. at least, as we know of lol. I believe, it’s enough to politely inform Dylan and everyone else of what was missed without any blaming and naming things. we all could be better. and we all still can be.
I mean okay.. but this movie was made by women for women, the bit that failed to convey that was the marketing. its fair to miss the point, it's not fair to laugh at sexual assault and then make jokes at the expense of lesbians.
I think it's ok to like Dylan and ok to think he missed the mark on this one. every comment I've seen about it is just of disappointed women sharing their disappointment.
no cuz i still don’t get the meaning and symbolism, i’ve read comment after comment but they all fly over my head, im just very bad at picking up these things and these comments low key make me feel stupid
btw If i am correct the scene where the band was sacrificing Jennifer and sang the song was a reference to SA and how assaulters tend to make it into a joke and have no empathy for their victims. it was supposed to be a disturbing part of the scene, it was not intended to be funny/ quirky. I believe the director said something about this in an interview.
that detail really is fucked up to me. it takes you a bit to realise what's going on, but it cuts directly from these murderers mocking her, to jennifer screaming in pain and fear. the movie clearly took that scene seriously by focusing on her experience.
Ofc the director said it some bs like that to make it very symbolic n ppl eating it up.. @@thatb1h855 The movie is literally a shallow gore thriller riding off the peak megan fox sexualization period. Just because a few girls found a few relatable scenes doesnt makes this movie any less campier or mediocre. It clearly shows how inexperienced the writer/directors are in this movie. None of the characters are believable, acting is laughable, music is inconsistent, cinematography is nothing special, even the concept is unorignal. Your experiences as a woman will not make this movie anything more than just bad. I am not a woman nor i am a lesbian but I recently watched "portrait of a lady on fire" and that movie was amazing. i didnot relate to a single experience in that movie but the characters are believable, movie is perfectly shot because it is made by a masterful "woman" director Céline Sciamma. I encourage you to watch her movie, like "Bande de Filles" or in english "Girlhood". Gender/Sex/race/religion do not matter when deciding if the movie is subjectively good or bad. Alot of people who try to justify this movie are just trying to justify that the movie they watched when they were 14 and thought it was deep are just coping over the fact that they liked a bad movie, which is fine btw, but justifying it using your gender and experiences card is ridiclous. “I would’ve been into it any other time but now I’m just alarmed” means that Dylan was not sexualizing the scene of Megan stripping , he was anticipating something bad was gonna happen. Which is… honestly what I felt too, as a woman who watched the movie first time. Your comment is taken out of context.
I was really disappointed in Dylan's reaction of this movie. I've seen a lot of these comments about how Dylan is only talking about the men in the movie, but I gave it the benefit of the doubt and decided to watch anyway. i wasn't expecting him to get the deeper meaning of the film because not that many guys that I talk to do the first time. What really made me sad was the was he kept talking about the men in the movie. Don't get me wrong, there are some really good male performances in this movie, but this movie is about women. Even if you didn't pick up of the SA allegory it still portrays female friendships. Sure it has Adam Brody (who I also love) and Chris Pratt, they are not the main points of the movie. The reason the band was singing during the sacrificing scene is to show how people who sexually assault people sometimes play it off as a joke, or not serious. It is just really sad that people think that this movie is stupid because it really isn't. A lot of women love it because they can connect with it. Most women in their life have had, or will have to deal with sexual harassment and assault done by men.
I honestly found it unnerving, to say the least, how he laughed throughout the whole scene of the band sacrificing Jennifer. That scene isn’t supposed to be funny. It’s supposed to show how cruel the band members are, how they don’t care at all about a young girl begging for her life to be spared. For me that scene is extremely hard to watch because I always think about all the women in the world who have been hurt and murdered by men who typically have a physical advantage. And how often men make jokes about the r*pe and killing of women. They think it is funny because it most likely will not happen to them. Male privilege at its finest.
@@erenjaeger6125ok “eren jaeger”. I think using a genocidal, self-centred lunatic as the basis of your whole account is insensitive and immoral, but it’s different then because….?
This is how I feel too. It’s really disappointing that all the men I see/hear talking about this movie can’t comprehend anything about it. It’s not that difficult.
Also, it really frustrated me how this smart movie technical aspects guy missed the whole FREAKING point of the frames/second. She’s being assaulted and murdered, so it’s not going to be this crisp, clear, 24 frames/seconds vibe. For her, it’s like reality is skipping around. Also for the memories, how they’re not clear, how they’re distorted. Like, didn’t he go to “college” for this? Lmao. I say this and still enjoyed his video (mostly enjoying how wrong and off he was about everything lol).
Also because the band planned it. That's why they're so calm. They planned the fire in advance 1. to create a distraction so they could take a girl 2. to create a tragedy they could use for marketing.
The Jenny song was trying to make it more horrifying to show her murder with a laissez faire dichotomy but you were still in funny mode so you were more like: why would they do a funny thing twice. Guess I’m still stuck on how many women die in horrific casual circumstances, because it was gross to me
Yeah it did kinda make it more horrifying by how Jennifer was clearly terrified, but they were trivialising the situation by singing. These guys had no morals.
What fucks me up is this movie may have been inspired by true events. A teenage girl was stabbed to death by her classmates bcuz they wanted to sacrifice her to the devil for better music making skills. She obvs didn't turn into a demon, just died.
Dylan: *makes a joke about her putting her glasses to actually see her friend* Me, being blind af and only being able to see people with my glasses on: wait a minute

This is literally such a smart and witty movie, and your commentary is the exact reason why it "flopped" at the box office but is a cult classic now. BlackGirlMarvel bc those are the only ones offered to her bc of typecasting. That’s why so many actors play basically the same roles in different movies. Like Tom Cruise, The Rock, Jennifer Aniston, Marilyn Monroe, etc.
@@alyssakennedy8363 Doesn't mean she has to take them. Or she can start writing her own films and showcasing her talent. There's ways to get from under the typecasting. Typecasting only happens when you continuously take the same type of role over and over. Its a choice and she's a good actress and has been in the business long enough to start making some moves on her own. Tom Cruise and Dwayne Johnson produce a lot of their films so they choose those roles, Jennifer Aniston isn't really typecast she just can't get from under the shadow of her Friends character (plus I don't think she's that spectacular of a performer) and Marilyn started her career very similar to Megan by being a sex symbol and couldn't get from under that label, especially when her scandal broke. Times have changed where you can start advocating for yourself way better now.

Some1whoisnotacat Megan Fox has said in interviews that she believes Jennifer is a lesbian but honestly, you could interpret her as bisexual too. There’s a valid argument in either one
This movie is about their codependent relationship. But it’s also an allegory for sexual assault, that’s why the joke Needy says about the van is important, it’s not just edgy but it’s alluding to what the story is about.
It's a pretty bad allegory for sexual assault, then. The girl who gets 'sexually assaulted' is literally possessed by a demon with a hunger for human flesh and kills and eats innocent young men.
@@TheRedHaze3 That's the point. It's a revenge fantasy for women who were assaulted. It subverts the trope that all women who are sexually assaulted are left broken and must lead the rest of their lives being miserable. It's the same revenge arc we see in so many male v/s male stories.
Personable Person it’s actually a pretty great allegory. Her being possessed and becoming a different person represents the trauma that she suffered and how much people change after going through traumatic experiences. Her eating men represents her feeling the need to take back control of her body after being assaulted and even going so far as to hurt others to get that control.

@@af1841 The movies went into production at roughly the same time, but JBs script was done way before Twilight's was written, it just came out later. The novel was out before though, so the name was out there.
C's In Twilight was published in 2005 but was probably written much earlier. Twilight was originally just Stephanie Meyer’s entertainment and her own personal thing she did just for fun. It in no way has any ties to this film.
Twilight is trash and is literally in no way connected to Jennifer's Body. Jennifer is a succubus, the sparkily Edward,-- who I am supposed to believe isn't gay-- is a vampire. One views humans, especially boys as food and nothing more while Edward literally falls in love with a human/minor. Stop comparing it to Jennifer's Body when they have nothing alike.
Jennifer’s Body is an excellent movie with important themes, it’s just presented in a self-aware dark comedy. It’s hard to talk about serious issues in general, but in a dark comedy the ideas often get muddled for lots of the audience. That’s why this movie did so poorly when it came out (plus they marketed in toward teenage boys when it’s a movie made for women, by women). It is pretty disappointing to see Dylan miss every big theme in this movie, ESPECIALLY the assault scene. It shows he didn’t take it serious from the jump. Not offended (as many of the comments are saying) just sad that one of my favorite commentary channels did this movie so dirty. Jennifer’s Body is a cult classic for a reason Folks not realizing the movie is self-aware is probably the main reason most audiences don’t see this movie as a serious piece of film. Pretty disappointing. I love Jennifer’s Body, all the actors were wonderful in their roles
FILM 101: Do not alienate your audience or else your movie is DESTINED to flop. Elizabeth Banks should've learned this by now after Charlie's fucking Angels!
I felt similar, but thought that fps switch was a smart choice. It was a way of conveying the terror of her experience-that break in filming style is an intentional disruption to get across a sense of the horror from a victim’s perspective. The convention in slasher movies is to film violence from either a voyeur’s pov or the attacker’s pov. This is an intentional departure. Karyn Kusama ftw
@@mrsbillforshort same, it's also not giving trauma porn vibes like other movies which is really triggering. As a victim of SA I could actually watch this movie, and felt seen and advocated for which was really nice.
It's not that he didn't get the movie. The film itself is mediocre and the message behind it isn't spotlighted well due to the sloppy writing, lackluster acting, empty script, and a misguided plot. Maybe if the movie checked all those boxes before trying to convey a message on the contrasting dynamics of female relationships only then can you make that comment.
It was a bad movie... And, honestly, I can't understand why a lot of women are defending it... like, I get it, it had good intentions, but it didn't reach the goal honestly. It was more cringe than anything else.
the “cutting boxes” joke was that you would expect she’s about to explain her motivation for stabbing Jennifer, but it turns out she was referring to the literal purpose of the tool she’s using to do it. so “this [weapon] is for cutting boxes” rather than “this (the reason i'm stabbing you) is for killing my boyfriend” or something along those lines.

What you need to watch is essays and analysis not a commentary.
This is a movie commentary made for entertainment... not an analytical essay

17:06 when you pointed out how megan fox as jennifer undressing in that scene made u alarmed it perfectly captures why this movie flopped so hard. marketers made this film seem like some raunchy film for boys where she’s constantly eye candy, but the camera and jennifer use that sex appeal as a form of preying on the men, rather than men preying on her…
yeah no shit
the fact that made it flop is so fucked up 😭
Dylan: Where are her parents? Where are any parents?
Every teen show/movie: You must be new here
So true 😔
There is a really cool video called " Jennifer's body and the horrors of bad marketing" that does an analysis on how the markening team tried to sell the movie to men cause it had megan fox in it, thinking it would be better than marketing how the screenwriter meant it, for women. Also it talks about how the movie's intention was to talk about the parasitic nature of some female friendships.
That's how i found out about this movie !

The irony of dylan missing the entire point of the movie (satire, assault and revenge plot, womens friendships) is hilarious. This is a grade A example of a man not understanding a film purely because its plot is centered around a womans experience, and showcasing how everything in life ends up revolving around men.

I didn't get it either the first time I watched it and I'm a girl, but I bet noone would accuse me of that because I'm a girl. And he was actually excited about the male characters because he LOVES the actors portraying them and I get that
you’re taking it in the wrong way i don’t think he’s sexist he’s just stupid lol

@@half-bakedthot the only thing I think about when I see her is that one scene from Ted 2. Look up "fuck me eyes ted 2" for reference.
it’s weird bc she was the popular girl in Mean Girls.
Dylan was complaining about the end and how the band faced no consequences. DYLAN!!! WATCH THE CREDITS MY GUY.
Can you explain it to me please? I havent watched it fully myself so i dont know what youre refering to (might just not remember it)

Zahra M SPoiler!!!! the ending of the credit shows a clip of them all getting killed at a hotel room
when needy ripped off the bff necklace it didn't physically take away jennifer's powers but it shocked her because she realized she officially lost her best friend and this wasn't just another fight that they could brush off later. and a best friend is the most important relationship for teenage girls so losing that is like losing everything. i feel like dylan missed a lot of points the movie was making (and also the ending credits scene).
Or how Needy used to sense Jennifer right before she showed up, but when she was changed Needy could no longer sense her. CHILLS!
Spankyx13 yes! I thought the same too!

watching him react to this makes me realize more and more just how much this movie was made for women. so much of the overall analogy is going right over his head and you can especially see that in his cheering of adam brody’s character on the screen and the way he sexualizes megan. i understand this is meant to be a dark comedy/thriller but i just find it very fascinating that he sort of plays into the stereotype of men watching this, while obviously using more critical thinking. while women are able to see how the men are manipulated by megan, dylan seemingly falls into her trap with the rest of them. i really enjoyed this considering i had only seen women react to before and i liked seeing a different perspective.

@@TheWorldisQuietHere3 I know it's like she was just a child then and grew up in the meantime and realized how fucked up it was
Alex Villa eww that makes it even way grosser 🤮
The reason why this movie flopped:
Women didn't want to watch it because of Megan's hypersexual reputation and saw this movie as too "objectifying".
Men didn't like this movie because they didn't get to see Megan Fox naked. (No really, that was actually one of the complaints in a review)
Overall, no one understood that this was the whole point of the movie - women who embrace their sexuality are demonized by the public.
@@hartyhart6154 i loved your take on this.

I believe the director said something about this in an interview.

@@jasoncastlecomedy SA is Se*ual Assault
that detail really is fucked up to me. it takes you a bit to realise what's going on, but it cuts directly from these murderers mocking her, to jennifer screaming in pain and fear. the movie clearly took that scene seriously by focusing on her experience.
Ofc the director said it some bs like that to make it very symbolic n ppl eating it up.. Exactly and this movie really proves that she’s a good actress. I think she should’ve done more horror stuff tbh because this movie really shows that it’s what she does best. Box is also slang for a woman’s down town, and Jennifer was basically pretending to be a walking va**na to bait men and eat them
I’m never going to forgive Hollywood for how they treated Megan Fox
And then had the nerve to label her difficult!! They did the same thing to Sarah Michelle gellar from Buffy. She was always standing up for her cast mates when production would mess with them and then she got a little blacklisted in the early 2000’s

"is this twilight? Is this a parody? Now I'm just alarmed" - every boy and man watching this and missing the story of the two female leads.
The interpretation of the story doesn’t have anything to do with someone’s gender. This whole comment section is really annoying
@@onaarchie6837 it definitely does. the film was made from the perspective of a woman. it explores feminist themes: violence against women, revenge, toxic female friendship, queerness. and he missed ALL of it. the fact that he did, as someone very informed about cinematography, yet so many other female reaction channels didn't, shows us that his own gender and experiences as a man made it difficult for him to see this movie as anything other than a shallow gore thriller
PS watch more non english foreign movies, then you will see how you can empathise with people whos experiences you cannot even experience because we live in such developed nations

It would do you good to watch the Hush video on his Ooga Booga channel
I honestly found it unnerving, to say the least, how he laughed throughout the whole scene of the band sacrificing Jennifer. That scene isn’t supposed to be funny. It’s supposed to show how cruel the band members are, how they don’t care at all about a young girl begging for her life to be spared.
For me that scene is extremely hard to watch because I always think about all the women in the world who have been hurt and murdered by men who typically have a physical advantage. And how often men make jokes about the r*pe and killing of women. They think it is funny because it most likely will not happen to them. Male privilege at its finest.

This is literally such a smart and witty movie, and your commentary is the exact reason why it "flopped" at the box office but is a cult classic now. She continues to take roles that put her in that category. 🤷🏽♀️

Dylan can’t understand films that don’t centre around men
This movie is about their codependent relationship.
@@alexschofield8085 This is the problem with interpretations. You can position anything you like, really, to make it fit.

It's like how in reality some rapists had been formerly raped themselves.

Jennifer’s Body is a cult classic for a reason
