The 'Rock'-Part is actually accurate to the german tale where the wolf is not really killed but only cut open to free Red Riding Hood and the Grandmother, so they fill the belly of the wolf with stones (after they climb out) and sew it shut. After the wolf wakes up he's thirsty and when he goes to the river (oder a lake), to drink he falls into the river/lake and drowns. Funny they chose this detail for the adapation.
Just noticed that Sieben kleine Geißlein also did that so I got confused for a second and thought the movie got their fairy tales mixed up

@@localweeb2924 Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, great if you thought it was really well done. Everyone's opinion is valid including yours and ours. I didn't think it was well done because the acting specifically in the more serious scenes was not convincing, there was a lack of appropriate emotion conveyed, in fact I felt that in most of the movie the acting wasn't successful. I also thought that the music placement like Dylan said wasn't done well, scary music during times that shouldn't be scary can present a conflicting tone which confuses the audience about what to expect. That's just a couple of the many reasons why I think the movie could have been better but I think Dylan pretty much explains why he doesn't think it was successful in its portrayal either in this video.

I gotta be honest, I'm with Catherine Hardwicke on this one. The first Twilight book is not Shakespeare, but it's not trying to be, and if you take it at face value rather than buying into the Twi-hate, it's a very enjoyable book. It was clearly a self-indulgent labor of love from the author. It was like a nice pint of ice cream. People just like to give it crap for not being gourmet gelato.
The sequels were obviously written too quickly after the surprise success of the first book; they're badly conceived, the love triangle is just there to draw in money, the pacing is weird, the overall plot begins to derail around the time Bella starts hallucinating about Edward, and has gone completely off the tracks by the end of the fourth book when we've suddenly got X-men superpowers and half-breed babies with cringey names.
That said...it's not like Hardwicke did a good job directing the Twilight movie. It's a disaster. So while I agree with her opinion on the series, she probably also just did badly enough to be fired. And Red Riding Hood was just embarrassing.
I could have sworn when I watched this movie when I was a kid that amanda seyfried ended up as a wolf and her grandmother knew and that's why she gave her the cloak because it protected her somehow.
Maybe it was after the credits? Idk I remember that vividly.

She's not that bad to be fair, there's potential. But the love-interest-turned-wolf? I had a hard time watching him try to act.
The stuffing the dad with rocks was a nod to a short fable about a wolf who swallowed these goat children and he passed out. The mother goat came home to find all but one of her children gone. So she and her last kid found the wolf, cut him open, freed all her kids, and then stuffed him with rocks. When the wolf woke up, he was thirsty. He went to drink from the river and drowned.
This movie sucks tho. I’m glad I never watched it.

I actually like this movie but it could be better. There is a deleted scene where Valarie goes to a new place with her father implying that she is now a wolf. In retrospect I think that would have been a better ending. Valarie always wanted to leave Dogerhorn/wood (whatever the village is called), she didn't want to marry Henry, she lost her sister (and eventually her grandmother), when things went bad people that she thought were her friends revealed their true colors, and her mother is a liar and is hugely at fault for her sisters death and all the chaos that happens. Besides Peter Valarie had every other reason to want to leave her village. It was is also very dark and most of the original versions of most fairytales are very dark.

Honestly when I first started watching I was like "Maybe there is no werewolf, there's just this normal wolf and this dude who comes in, poisons/drugs the villagers of the places he goes to to make them hallucinate the wolf as whatever they imagined it to be or based on descriptions they'd heard from each other. And was going to trick them into paying him to get rid of the wolf and then kill one of them while they were all hallucinating and use the werewolf reverting to its human form when dead as a cover-up." which honestly, in retrospect, would have been a more interesting plot.

When I was like 13-14 I wasn’t into twilight. I was into this movie since I liked the actors better. And when I say that I was into it I mean it. I cannot overstate how glad I am to find someone else who pronounces Amanda Seyfried's name correctly.
Honestly, I just watched the movie as a VERY guilty pleasure/eye candy, and your review and conclusion of it is very accurate! This movie was beyond terrible, but I have a thing for the moody aesthetic, not going to lie.
I actually love the movie when I saw it years ago 😂 it's very rewatchable too, as what you've said, like a guilty pleasure of sort

The grandmother was one of the biggest missed opportunities in this movie; just imagine if Grandma was intentionally written to be a witch. She could've been possibly the only person who could have stopped her son (maybe she had even killed his dad-- that might have been interesting and given him motivation to kill her). Plus, the freaking cloak could have served some purpose to the story other than ~pretty~. If it had some protective spells woven into it which served some plot point towards the end then I wouldn't question why the movie is named after a hunk of fabric that does literally nothing. And then, to wrap things up, Seyfried's character could have learned magic while living in her grandmother's cabin and finished weaving the cloak. It's not perfect but it's an improvement.
I'm perfectly fine with useless characters and roads to nowhere as long as they're entertaining, but Granny was a character who could have patched up SO MANY plotholes, I can't help feeling disappointed. All aboard the Grandma Train...

Have you seen the Once Upon a Time episode for Little Red Riding Hood? From what I remember, they did everything right with the story in that one. (Episode 1.15, Red-Handed, according to a quick Google search)

The movie is based on a fairy tale (its called "Rotkäppchen" what is the German name for little red riding hood, and that is how the villagers call the girl, because she wears it all the time, it's her nickname, so it makes absolutely sense, that the movie is named after the fabric) and she is just the grandma in it. The hole movie is different, so it's nice, that at least the grandma is the normal grandma.
