Yes Gene is responsible for eye color and the gene decide whether the amount of melanin in the Iris will be low or high

Sir melanin is responsible for eye colour. As we know, melanocyte cells present on skin are activated by sun rays and finally the skin colour becomes black due to over secretion of melanin. Then why high melanin does not give black colour to iris as compared to brown.

Iris contains smooth muscles along with melanocytes... High melanin content give brownish black color and not completely black because of presence of muscular tissue (radial smooth muscles & circular smooth muscles)
