Dirty Martini Porsche Taycan 1 year review. It’s not perfect, but it is brilliant!

So I’ll be the first to accept the Taycan is not only expensive but also somewhat flawed in a few ways… BUT despite all that it’s one of very few cars in my ownership history that I’ve kept for over a year!
In this video I reveal why plus be honest about all the niggles and bits I don’t like!
Porsche Taycan 4s with rear wheel steering, 3 chamber air suspension, 21” wheels, surface coated brake discs PSCBD, massive callipers, glass panoramic roof, red interior, multi-way electric seats, sports chrono package and more.
(Don’t have PDCC Porsche dynamic chassis control, and yet it’s still fantastic on track!)
Will I sell it? Yes, it has a price and is on our website www.rsev.co.uk but what would I replace it with one day?
Turbo S? Cross turismo? Sport Turismo GTS? Audi Etron GT RS?
    Time will tell…
    Thanks for watching!

@2:10 - that implies that petrol heads say all petrol cars are fast... about 80% of the UK cuts about in cars that can barely hit 100mph on a smooth autobahn in their current condition and do 0-60 in about 2 years. An EV for an "average joe" is a massive performance upgrade in a vast majority of all petrol to EV comparisons. Oh and then there's diesel 😂

If I could ever afford it this would be my number once choice and yes your business is EV but you are totally fair on them all. That makes your channel the best one for reviews etc and why I got my MG4 after your review and near crash :-)

I love the Porsche Taycan, especially the Sport Turismo version.
However, Porsche options are ridiculous - for the Taycan you need to add ~£20k of options just to get it up to the base spec of cars in the £40k range 😱

Great video. The only thing that stopped me from getting the Porsche over a Tesla was the range. Guy in Porsche said the real world range on a cold day won’t exceed 190 miles. I probably would have dealt with that if the waiting time for a new one also wasn’t 18months to 2 years.

    • @RSEV

I did another video a few months back. 260 miles at constant motorway speed.
It’s not bad. Then of course super fast charging.
Dashboard range estimate is variable (unlike Tesla) based on recent efficiency. Drive it hard or shuffle around town, heating on etc and it drops.

Good and fair(ish) review. I do resonate with your feelings about it being a keeper and sense that if I let mine go I would end up regretting instantaneously - that said, to ease myself away from it - a change to the ST GTS flavour may be the way to go - but with supply and wait times to get one taking eons or even light years away, something else may end up trumping it given the explosion of offerings beginning to emerge from the upper end of the EV market - so its still a keeper for me - as you rightly say, its a sense of occasion neither a Tesla or etron GT can deliver

Richard, you have some great tips in here. I have 49,000 miles on my Taycan 4S. I have toggled on and off that battery friendly state a few times, I agree they should just name it food break.
I was going to say that the hand writing feature is very handy if you are driving and navigating to a destination that the voice recognition does not handle. I have found that it’s fairly easy to write in a location while still looking at the road and once you enter enough, glanced down and select the correct entry.
I did also feature the passenger displays so if I have a copilot, they can type into the keyboard while in motion on that display.

Seen this in the flesh before I started following or had just started at a EV show at Gaydon last year. You were probably standing beside it that Saturday near the front entrance on the grass. I like the Taycan it just looks the part. I can only imagine the second gen of these will be even better. Still lacking the tech of Tesla but what an interior ok it’s a £120k Car it should look a bit special. I hate things you spot and think ho did they miss this. I’m Glad Waze works, I use it on my travels and when I said I was down at Gaydon motor museum that weekend at the EV show I’d driven from Glasgow😁 It sounds like the Tech it just needs to be a bit smarter in the Taycan. But it is the EV I’d have if money was no issue. I bought a petrol BMW factory ordered split new and it was the first of a new generation think I was like the twelfth on the U.K. roads so much so people noticed and pointed. But never again it was in 18 times for faults, fixes and failures - it sat at a dealers for a month they wouldn’t let me drive it while they waited on parts ok I had a lovely loaner but still.
I’d love to do the NC 500 in Scotland in that Taycan and I drive like a nun or so people tell me 😁 I’m just careful. So really Porsche it’s a report card 3.5 out of 5 could do better but still great. Still one of the best in-depth channels covering what people really want to know.

One pedal driving is a must, one of the best things with EVs . Hope Porsche fix it via a system update. And it should remember your settings, so you don't have to do them every time.
Does it support more users? So it change to your settings when it detects your phone, set the drive settings, seats etc?

    • @RobJT

      @Nse19 Місяць тому

@@RobJT not just in the city. It's super great both when cruising and active driving. You got instant respons and 100% control with just the gas pedal. It's not an on/off switch, it's seamless.
It takes a little while to get used to but after that you really don't want to go back.

My Taycan has done 20+ track days and has just had its 20k service. It passed with 7mm still on the ceramic brake pads. Never a moment of brake fade even repeating 150 mph to 70 mph all day. I've had my Tesla for almost 4 years now and it has been completely trouble free, efficient and easy to live with. Quite a good car but, unfortunately also kind of boring. Driving it feels like driving a really powerful Toyota, there's simple no real joy. Before the Tesla I had a Porsche 997 Carrera s and I miss that one every day (had to sell it to fit the family). Haven't tested a taycan yet but if it's anywhere near a 911 in driving experience and you appreciate that, and are prepared to pay for it, go for a taycan! If you just want to get from A to B, a Tesla will do perfectly fine.

    VW are going bankrupt.
They can’t afford to develop EV’s from existing revenue … so they have Porsche up for sale.

The Taycan has a massively strong (heavy) frame around the battery pack for safety. Sometimes a vehicle will weigh more as you add refinement and sound proofing. Refinement in the Tesla is not up to the Level the Taycan achieves.
