    Since we often go on passage on our boats, this scores very high for us on two fronts: First, that sea keeping capability borne of low center of gravity, simple power train, etc. But second, VERY much appreciate that galley. What a great place to fix an underway meal, with vast views, proximity to the helm, center of the boat and safe spacing.

    had a phantom 40 fly in mallorca , porto cristo, for many years. was a 2007. fab yacht for sure, best boat i ever had ( and there were many), sold it just 2 month before the covid pandemic started to invest in a house in PC,....now its moored in denia and me and my wife really miss it... if i would get boat again in future( which will happen anyway with yachties like you and me) it will be a fairline of that decade for sure. cheers from germany

    I wanted this boat ever since the model was launched. In fact I test drove a friend’s squadron 50 who used to birth it next to my V52 at that time. In eastern med, where we like to sail, you have the northerlies in the summer, that due to small distances from an island to the next, produce waves of short length and medium height (1-2 meters). This type of seas is extremely annoying, particularly if you sail the new balsa cored hulls that are extremely light. The first wave lifts the bow, which slams into the next one.
    That boat, as well as my V52 with the pointy bow, were heavy and had inertia. So in those seas, with the flaps half trimmed, throttle for 15-16 Knots, there was no drama aside from the spray that would make the wipers work hard.
    Also docking was a lot easier. Today you have joysticks, but they are useless above 15-20 Kn on the beam, because the light and flat planning hull has no inertia or grip on the water, while it has lots of windage, which is needed for interior volume… You really have to stay ahead of the curve, in order to avoid very costly accidents in those conditions.
    As we are now empty nesters, and have all the time in the world, a Linssen Grand Sturdy 500 Variotop is our next project…
    By the way, as retirees who run our family business oftentimes from the boat, we actually clock 150-200 hours per year, and about 800 generator hours for heat, airconditioning, water making, and battery health, which translates into about 1,800 NM, many at trawling speeds, as we oftentimes lay a couple of fishing lines from the cockpit, only to make the barbecue payback…

    Thank you again for your detailed review. Although we have a limited season up here in Scotland the classic Fairline Phantom is still a beautiful boat to own up here. I took to Sailing yatchs but due to minor health issues looking to return to motorboat again. I hear the later Fairline Phantom 50 2010/12 is worth looking at! Can you please advise?

    Great review James. What a gorgeous boat, and wouldn't be that difficult to Zsushe up the fit -out to a more now spec. All this and a "boyfriend cabin"...... Fabulous. Still think the passerelle stuffs up the transom platform (but then I'm Australian so I would say that) so get rid of that and extend the platform, and maybe install some MORE FRIDGES/COOLBOXES. But then, I'm Australian and I would say that.....:) Cutlery storage amazing. Cheers. S

    While it is wonderful to see a video tour of this boat, is it possible to state the actual measurements, such as headroom in the salon, head, galley, engine room, etc. The terms wonderfully spacious, large, and standup headroom only tell part of the story for those who start their research via UA-cam.

    A Classic to be sure. I just love the quality of Fairline's woodwork and the rest of the boat. Aquaholic did a review or a Turbo 36 a while back, another Fairline timeless classic. There was a section of the hull layup onboard, I cant remember why exactly, possibly a bow thruster being fitted. It looked like it would take a direct hit from a torpedo and the torpedo come off the worst. Love the costings info and the socks.
    Its a whole lot of boat for the price. But since I'm heading to pension soon and my inflatable is punctured, so I have nothing to trade in I'll have to pass on it. Have you noticed no two stock boats off a production run are ever truly identical. theres always some tiny little differences?
    If you ever get a Freeman 23 in, dont forget to do a full review on it. I could probably stretch the wallet to one of them😄 Another true Classic

    • @Boatscouk
      @Boatscouk  Рік тому

      Great question. The depreciation is worked out without any fees as these vary so much - it would skew the figures. If you Px you sometimes get a better price than a brokerage cash sale (less fees) for example.

    Maybe its a bit of me at a deal. If engines produce electric charge why not add some side fitted electric props to increase mpg and in port monovability. Who does that? On deep storage, how easy to add a cable lift basket shelf unit. Malaysia fuel 25% of ours and filling up on the wa is cheap. Finally cost to deliver to Mediterranean would be good.

    Barbecue is something that you eat NOT something you cook on. You cook on a grill or griddle depending on the cook surface.

      @@Boatscouk Hi Thanks for the reply. As a suggestion, since you're not going to show us crappy boats - good -, how about scoring boats as being good for different things? Is this a good take the family to France boat. (I looked you guys up on Google Earth, and that looks like it's a thing. It was like 120ish Kilometers to Calais. Rough math says that is about a 4 hour trip at 20 knts. Or maybe I'm wrong. ) Or is another boat not really a Channel crossing boat but good for something else. Something more of a Med sunbathing boat rather than a Northern Water boat. Maybe catagories like good for a beginner, good for going in circles really fast giggling (like Nick's boat 😉).
