      A touch of love...
And this goes both ways- my dog always knew when i was in dark place, either sad and melancholic, or violent.
He did same thing, just his way- he`d press his head against my knee and look at me, with those dark, all- knowing eyes... It is hard to be hating world and yourself, when there is a creature in front of you, showing you enough affection to last a lifetime

But he was an innocent precious baby who lived long. 17 years. We had to euthanize him because of tumors in his brain and stomach on April 2nd, 2017. His cries of pain are etched into my mind forever.

@stellarrat Maybe because humans have more complex psychological processes than dogs? Is a dog, the only thing he can do is like you or not like you. You can translate that into "love" or likability, but there's no complex exchange of thoughts, ideas, language, subject/object constructions, etc. Not to mention, dogs are domesticated and programmed/predisposed to be amicable toward humans. So, is not fair for the dog or the human to make such comparisons. No idea why some of you people like to compare human (higher psychological processes) behavior with non-hominin. Even primates and dolphins are closer to us in that regard, but you always like to compare us to dogs, cats, and parrots. 🙄

Amen Paula! I feel God should have made me a billionaire so that I can help all dogs and cats and all animals and human beings that are abandoned, mistreated, abused, homeless including human beings. Dogs and cats in shelters that don't have enough room they put them to sleep! But I still do as much as I can! You can donate to the Humane Society, ASPC, donate your time if you can. To me everytime I can donate or help somebody I feel so much satisfaction or help a poor animal I would do it in a heartbeat! God protect all of God's creatures they all deserve a good happy life! ❤️ Frank.🐕🐅🐅

It does feel good to help out and play with the animals and show them love.

there's no forgiveness in animals, stop fucking treating them like humans. They're not. This dog only knew violence and therefore showed aggressive behaviour. Once he was shown care, affection but more importantly no sign of threat nor danger, his instincts (that previously kept him on guard at all times) told him he was safe and so he quickly changed behaviour.
Treating animals, dogs, like humans is a disservice to them, it doesnt do them any good, you'll never understand how a dog thinks and acts if you stupidly think you're dealing with a human being.

Be aware, thus dog will need more therapy for his PTSD. HE will still be likely to be reactive to triggers -- someone whose scent or behavior frightens him.
My rescue turned service dog was terrified of tall men with fur hats. I recruited some tall friends and they helped socialize my 2 yr. old dog, tossing him kibble and LETTING HIM COME TO THEM (while we had him on a 6' leash.) You have to create conditions which tempt the dog to take the scary risk, one baby step at a time. This respects the dog, restored his sense of agency, and lets the dog feel more confident in his own power to be safe without being reactive.
EVEN AFTER YOU THINK ALL THE FEAR IS EXTINGUISHED, it can return, especially when dog thinks his savior or pack is endangered. It's not the dog's fault, but buying extra insurance and taking it slow when introducing new people is critically important.

I don't mean to bust your bubble, but that wasn't the dog letting go of his fear. That was the dog being so terrified that he figured that inaction is the best way to avoid getting hurt, basically giving in. It's called "learned helplessness" in animals (and also humans) and is very natural when an animal realizes they can't stop unwanted stimuli. It's how veterinarians calm dogs down, for example. This dog won't get better in just a day, maybe never. It's a long, long process.
Edit: you would never take such a direct approach with a dog this abused. It's all for the video. I'm sure they're taking it far more gradually off-screen which will have better long-term effects.

He was well named. Thanks to Takis, just like the Phoenix, he rose from the ashes of violence and neglect to become a gentle, loving, affectionate doggie. 💕

@Worzol Gummage dog is a dog. Pure bred dogs tend to be less intelligent and have more health problems. Mixed breeds tend to be smarter and healthier.
No need to be a dick. Clearly the dog is part black lab.

In that moment where he leans his head into the handler’s palm really got me. I came from an abusive home and I empathized with that. You’re scared by affection, but want it so desperately. Thank you for this.

I so get this as a survivor of abuse too, it’s an awful feeling to feel that you are desperate for that love and affection, but terrified by it, and then always doubting that they really love you that in the end I can push them away with my insecurities. I wish you find/have found love and affection from friends and lover’s. All the best never forget that you are a warrior and survivor. Take care

Still dangerous. I wouldn’t leave that dog around a small child. Dogs are known to have redirected aggression.

The Hawk yes Defiantly for this dog, but if a dog is brought up around children they should be fine. I have an Airedale terrier who can get a little rough when playing with the other dogs. If i were to grab him to tell him to stop, he would turn like he was going to bite you but then stop because he knows he would get in trouble. He’s never bit at me or kids since he was a puppy. If a dog is around people they will know not to bite unless they are abused like the poor dog in this vid.

The two aren't mutually exclusive, it's fear manifested through aggression.

Thank you for showing love and kindness to this precious soul. He’s a beating heart that can feel pain and sadness. Fear and nerves. Love helped him come out of his mental anguish. How I wish to GOD the former owner could PAY dearly for his evil treatment of this poor innocent baby boy! I will continue to wish for true Justice for this little angel! 🙏🏼♥️🐶♥️🙏🏼
