Ya, lots of misinformation and poor understanding of the market segment. Also, he compares the 80 CID engine's power and says " not comparable to a Harley 110" ... well duh! And it has no cruise, that's a volume control. It's a great bike for 60% of the money of an HD.
The 1300 is designed to rev. It's a short stroke motor. If you short shift it will vibrate and lag. If you Rev it out it really moves for the type of bike it is. When I had mine I never changed into 5th until at least 80km/h (50mp/h). It just isn't designed to be a low revving torque motor like a Harley.
I have Yamaha 1300 and this guy is not fair in my opinion, he hit some fair points but all in all seems more like a review by a competitor to prove inferiority.
100% Fool has no clue what he is talking about, as shown by thinking nav controls are cruise control and has no idea what gear to be in without a tac. Cant even make turns, i would guess he rides sportster.
I purchased this model and I am very happy the transmission is geared high I can ride around town all day in 4th gear with plenty of go power acceleration is good. one thing that the guys said that I have to agree with is no engine breaking but that goes along with high gear ratio on a scale of 1-10 I would give this bike an 8
A couple of points. This is NOT Yamaha's answer to Harley's big tourers. That would be the Star Venture. This is meant to be a mid-size tourer. Also, their power band is much wider than you were using so it seemed to lack power. It would smoke a Sportster 1200. I do appreciate your straight-forward take on the bike though.
Just bought 2014 vstar 1300 touring new got a great deal. It didn't take long to realize this bike seems to be high geared. I understand where some of your comments are coming from about the power just have to rev out it a little more. Getting used to different shift points.Fith gear for 70 plus mph only it is smooth as silk at 85-90, purrs like a kitten. To sum it up the bike has great power , just needs more revs than most v-twins. Handles very easy I had a much lighter bike no problems making adjustment.
I owned a 2008 v star 1300. I loved it and I miss it. Rides great, hauls ass, and had great lean angle. Rode the hell out of the Twisted Sisters here in the Texas hill country. This guy has no clue what he’s doing🤣
I’ve had a 2007 for a few years now and I love it. Looking at upgrading to a 2015 for the fairing and hard bags. This guys review is scaring me a lil bit but he sounds wildly biased tbh.
I just got a 08 v star 1300 tourer traded a bike I bought for 2k for it and I've ridden many of Harley's best bikes and it's a much much cheaper road king in my opinion
Rode a hd 1200 sportster custom, indian scout, xvs1300. Yama shits all over the others. Waaaay cheaper, faster, smoother, better ride and handling, insanely better brakes. Makes my honda vt feel crude.
No it doesn't I have had a 2013 1200 sportster custom and the v star 1300 I own both now and my sportster has a full stage 1 and walks away with ease from Mr 2016 v star 1300
What? 5th gear at 45mph... that's just about 70km/h, 5th is to be considered an overdrive, maybe you can consider using it to maintaining speed at 80 km/h. I love the gear ratio on this bike. This guy must have been paid to hate on this bike?
Angel the V star 1300 is an awesome bike, I have rode a lot of different bikes from can ams to new Honda's and many other brands I even considered a couple of Harley's before i chose my first ever Yamaha I;ve always been partial to gold wings but for the money and cost of maintenance I chose the Yamaha v star over everything else I tried. It really comes down to what you want from a bike personally I like cruiser others love sports bikes for speed, I'd rather have comfort and speed which I get easily from my Vstar 1300 at 712 lbs even though the seats on Gold wings are a lot more comfortable the weight they have is something to consider one major problem I personally have with the gold wings are that they have very limited foot room I wear size 13 boots and sometimes I can't even find the foot brake on the gold wing. So you should really go to every dealership in your area and test drive all the bikes you think you would like then make a decision for me it just took one test drive of the V Star 1300 deluxe to know I loved the feel, comfort and power it provides and sure there are much faster bikes and if it weren't for the $6,000 difference I might have bought the Stratoliner with 113ci engine that's 1854cc's but everybody has different likes when it comes to what you ride so go try all that you can then decide and good luck.;
I currently own a Harley Davidson sportster. I want a decent touring bike but I’m not spending Harley dollars on it. This bike is really nice and I love the 2015 red color.
I think the only bike I've seen him like is his fjr1300 and everything is compared to that .I've owned a 1300 v star for12 years if you know how to ride it hauls ass for a cruiser to compare it to a 1200 which I've also owned a sportster is hilarious the sporty is running hard at 70 in top gear my yamaha you don't even shift to 5th gear till about60 or even 70 mph
Same here, owned it for 7 years. It's a bit of a learning curve gear wise, as it prefers higher revs, rather than short changing and lugging it. Loads of power if you know what your doing.
HD charges more for special colors as well. My Blue Pearl was a $200 option for my 2008 Sportster. I'm looking for a Yamaha to replace it, just not sure which one.
How do you like the 1300?? Thinking of getting one , I’m 5’7 do you think it would be uncomfortable for me to ride cause my height ? Right now I have a Harley sportster and a can am spyder which I’m selling
not a cruise control, and it's cable throttle, hence the cable coming out the back of the throttle tube, nothing deluxe except built in GPS, XM satellite radio and ipod connection.
Does he not understand gear ratios? Heavy lag at 45mph means the gearing is way too tall for that speed. This was painful to watch. The 1300 loves to rev.
Most of us who own this bike use the Garmin to give us our speed, it's exactly what you're saying just a glance and you've got your speed. Yeah it would be nice to have a tach but can't have everything.
+Ned Miller It was, but I believe they discontinued it. The newest you will find on their website is n.o.s. 2014's. I had a 2006 Stratoliner. I loved the way it handled and the torque. But it had so many issues, I got rid of it in 2009. Maybe they were all problematic and that is why they dropped the line...
You don't need a Tachometer on cruisers. There's a reason why crotch rockets (sport bikes) have them and not the average standard bike (cruisers). Also, you might want to slow down when driving over speed bumps. Smh..
Love the review! Helps keep prices down in case anything catastrophic ever happens to mine. Don’t like having to pay anymore than I need to for my all time favorite keeper. Just gotta know how to ride it.
Not true at all - I point out the good and bad about every bike I review. Lots of great choices out there, it all depends on what you like and most importantly your budget. Quality wise Indian and Harley both have some great models on the high side. The basic models, much less so. For a basic ride with great power and quality look to the M109 and Raider/Stryker series.
I’ve driven a Harley classic for 10yrs and gave it up for my 07 v star. I got tired of the oil leaking, vibrating wash machine they call Harleys. 100 dollar oil changes along with multiple issues.
I own a v-star 1300 2015 model and I would have to agree with a lot of your comments about this bike. For me the biggest disappointment is the engine and how they have geared it. It’s low rev torque is very poor and is the revs climb it becomes very rough. There is torque in the medium to high revs but it becomes so rough that you feel like you are damaging the engine. There is a sweet spot between low and high revs which is very smooth but the range of this sweet spot in my opinion is way too short as it forces you to drive it like a big engined low reving car. A lot of people have said to me that this is typical of the cruiser but I wonder why a cruiser has to have such a limitation . It is certainly much more pleasant to ride on country roads and a very comfortable riding position and seat but in the city the gearing is very tall and for many tighter corners you have to change to first gear so as not to scrape the floor boards. The 2nd gear sweet spot is 28 to 45 miles per hour. In my opinion that rev range is not good enough for any decent motorcycle.
for the price you will not find a better one ..i do 100-500 mile trips its not a road glide but i also doesnt cost like one..have you driven it yet..i mean like an hour plus
Great review. I'm bouncing between the Suzuki Boulevard C90T and the V Star. I think I'm more excited to test out the C90T after this review. Keep up the great reviews!
+Stephen Vilotti Take the C90T. I have the RoadStar Midnight Silverado (1700), my brother has the C90T and I recommend it over the VStar. The Suzuki has a small gas tank but other than that ok. Yamaha is really dropping the ball. This 1300 sucks. Bring back the Venture. Where's the Roadliner or Roadstar. Only big bike now is the Raider.
+Rubble Rouser I suggest you test out the Yamaha 1700cc Roadstar...Its a lot more bike than the 1300! The Siverado package is up to par with most Harleys.
+Rubble Rouser >>Just because theyre no longer made doesn't make them any less on par with most Harleys My 2006 1700 will do what any Harley will do....Ive seen them do 150,000 without a rebuild!
Excellent honest review ! Bummed to hear some of the results but appreciate the honesty . Would be curious how it handles on a hwy/freeway speed test for maybe 10-15 miles (comfort , wind, that 5th gear...etc) but again great review !
Not sure if you’re going to give an unbiased opinion of this bike. Within the first 2 minutes of this video you said you were going on a new route than the other guy and then you go over a bump that you have been going over all day! 🤥I’m going to keep watching, but it doesn’t look to promising…
You nailed it, I made a big mistake when I bought one of these, worst bike I have ever owned, counting the days untill I can pay enough down on it to get rid of it.
Wow, my local dealer has 2014 model with only 1500 miles, was thinking about buying it, but not now, glad I saw this review first. That speedo is in a bad place, should be where the GPS sits. Read online reviews saying the power was great, doesn't seem that great. Guess I'll keep my 1998 Honda Shadow Ace 1100 Tourer.
Power is great, you just need to use the correct gear. In this video, 90% of the time he is riding one gear above the correct one and/or asking for revving when the engine lagged already.
That lunky ace wont handle like the vstar. Too bad you watched a bad review on a great bike. This guy constantly is blaming the bike for his own shortcomings.
Thanks for the great review. Saved me from getting a pig with bunch of lipstick on it. It's just your basic yamaha cruiser with a bat wing and a gps unit and it want's you to think it plays in the same league with all the big baggers. Doesn't even have a fuel gauge or ABS. Doesn't cost as much a Harley either, but it also cost a lot more than a similar sized metric cruiser without the gps.
Not really an accurate review. Yamaha makes awesome cruisers and most reliable at great price
Ya, lots of misinformation and poor understanding of the market segment. Also, he compares the 80 CID engine's power and says " not comparable to a Harley 110" ... well duh! And it has no cruise, that's a volume control. It's a great bike for 60% of the money of an HD.
I believe the cruise control you refer to is actually the controls for the audio system when you have it connected to your phone or mp3 player.
correct; no stock cruise control. Those are audio controls if you hook your iPhone up to the audio system
I've had my 1300 Vstar for 5 years and love it. Had many other bikes but this one is the best by far
The 1300 is designed to rev. It's a short stroke motor. If you short shift it will vibrate and lag. If you Rev it out it really moves for the type of bike it is. This guy reminds me of other youtubers who have dabbled in a subject but try to present themselves as experts.
Rode a hd 1200 sportster custom, indian scout, xvs1300.

Not a fair review. Most likely HD commercial. Bike is awesome and performs excellent.

Well if you like Goldwings so well. Why didn't you go with the Honda Valkyrie ? It is a way much better bike than the VStar 1300
It’s the deluxe version of the vstar 1300. That’s why it’s called deluxe, thought that was pretty obvious...
You talk like a Harley Rider, this is a sad review!
The V star isn't Yamaha's Harley competition; the Royal Star is.
How much blinker fluid does it take on a yearly basis
Dang, it's got chrome rings around the speakers. I'm not buying it now! Geeeez
I have never heard anyone complain this much about riding any motorcycle. Perhaps you would be happier trying a different hobby.
I have the 2015, it loves to rev. 3 gear 30 to 70 for back roads and city. 4 and 5 for highway riding
This guy sounds like he wanted to hate this bike before he ever got on it.

How is it dulex with no highway bar or highway pegs and no trunk. And stock pipes thats not a dulex and stock air filter
i never compare my bike to harley....
There is no comparison at all...Yamaha has its own perfect class
Love the review! Helps keep prices down in case anything catastrophic ever happens to mine. Don’t like having to pay anymore than I need to for my all time favorite keeper. Just gotta know how to ride it.
It sounds like you are lugging it in top gear and if you are only doing 45 you might be. I would be on my Sportster.
I have watched your vids,..and any cruiser you ride,..you instantly have many negative reviews,..what cruiser would you suggest?
Not true at all - I point out the good and bad about every bike I review. Lots of great choices out there, it all depends on what you like and most importantly your budget. Star venture is what was made to compete w/ Harleys big tourer lmao need to get your facts straight pal
I find this bike to be excellent. Plenty of power 5th gear 45 mph. That means this guy doesn’t know how to ride
rough review with needed learning curve for most that are interested in bike or how it is designed to be ridden properly. Thanks

I need some advice on recommended cruisers at around the same price point. if anyone is willing to drop some wisdom
+angel balderrama angel if your looking for a great 13000ish cruiser,,..go give it a run you wont be disappointed..guaranteed
my local has one at a good price and it feels right when im on it but its a bit of a commitment for me so i dont want to regret it
for the price you will not find a better one ..i do 100-500 mile trips its not a road glide but i also doesnt cost like one..have you driven it yet..i mean like an hour plus
thats where it shines
i havnt gotten to test ride no, but im for sure gonna do that b4 i lay down the money.
This guy is a HD fan boy, not a good a review.
Thank you Bryan for the Yamaha Vstar 1300 review. Your critique was quite accurate and appreciated. Ride safe.
91° and you're in full riding gear? I love being a squid. You should try it sometime.🦅

100/1100 kmh than u sift to 5ft
Pretty negative review, unlike most of the others I’ve read/watched.
man, you're picky lol.
Excellent honest review ! Bummed to hear some of the results but appreciate the honesty . Would be curious how it handles on a hwy/freeway speed test for maybe 10-15 miles (comfort , wind, that 5th gear...etc) but again great review !
+Empirical First upgrade any Yamaha Cruiser/Tourer needs is a seat. Theirs are like sitting on a wood box.
This guy sounds like he only loves Harley. Why did he bother?
Needs a dual and batwing is not all there
now that victory has gone out star should come back with the 1900 statoliner, if they could keep the price at about 18000 they would sell
Where are the cars. Definitely this is not LA
2012 yamaha road star is a Japanese Harley. I know be caused I own a s model toad star.

Do NOT get your buying recommendation from this guy. He knows nothing about basic mechanics
@jtsct dude, that was 2 years ago!
Disappointed with this bike.
