Can you make a video about your receipts/taxes for UA-cam. For example: how much you set aside to pay in taxes, howto know if a receipt is business or personal, etc. i think that’d be really helpful for ppl who want to start/expand their UA-cam career
I've talked about this a bunch before but always happy to discuss. Keep in mind I can ONLY speak on behalf of Canadian laws not US laws with taxes. Rule of thumb is putting 20% aside for taxes but UA-cam deducts taxes already for me so its like a "normal" job in the sense that I don't put aside taxes since they get automatically deducted with my pay. The second question is obvious- what's a business expense is a business reciept and if its personal its personal. If I buy a camera, its business. If I buy groceries its personal.

@@BlessedByBella so trips are bit different! If I'm going on a BUSINESS trip (being invited by a brand etc) then its 100% a write off. But trips like Disney that we paid for but are also vlogging I write off around 50% of it since I'm vlogging it as well as it being more of a personal trip!

I have lots of work day vlogs as a creator on my channel! But yes I can film more soon! They just get repetitive to film for vlogs since I do the same tasks over and over (film/edit/upload/film brand deal) 🥰
Just curious, what are the receipts for? Are you able to claim expenses for your trip as a content creator? Apologies if that is a personal question I just don’t understand
I think I mentioned it in the video but yes I can claim expenses from our trip since it was partially a work trip as I was vlogging. So I can claim our flights/hotel/food/ubers etc! It's different in Canada vs the US but basically I claim for whatever percentage of the trip was work related (ex. 25%, 50%, 100%) I considered this trip 50% fun and 50% work as I was vlogging for most of the day everyday so I can therefore claim 50% of all my expenses! Some people may do it differently but this is how I choose to do it to be honest!

For your taxes, I think either taking a picture of your receipts (especially while traveling - iPhone seems to be better at this than Android, but either works) or scanning them into a PDF makes things easy. I would use the file folder for receipts for the month categorized by type and then with your monthly reset you can sort, tally, and scan them into PDFs and enter everything into Quickbooks.
