Dude, awesome video! I can't wait for part 2 of this. Also, I think its really cool about the database that you are building, that is going to be really helpful. Cause as we all know, manufacturer marketing can say whatever hype BS they want, but when it comes to the true nitty gritty that actually matters, that can only be found, from such a database that you are building. Manufacturers may not like it, but they can choke on an inductor choke. 😝

Thanks. This one was a lot more work than the usual video (about 9 times ha). These will probably be more rare than the usual one off videos. The database will hopefully get large enough to have value since it will include all types of devices, not just power adapters, although for now it will be mostly power adapters.

Been bingewatching your videos, there's something addictive about them haha.
I noticed you always check if the products have certain safety or energy labels on them, and I'm now wondering what I should look out for myself.
Maybe a good idea is to go over the most important labels a device should/could have in a future video?

Hi! I had one question. I recently bought a new phone, Nothing 2a, their website doesn't ship the official charger to my location but they recommend using any branded charger which has "PPS protocol supported"
After doing some digging I came across a few recommendations as follows:
    1. Samsung 25W. (leaning more towards it as it is relatively cheaper)
    2. Ugreen 20 or 30W Nexode (unsure of their reliability)
I don't mind charging my phone a little slower if that will prevent it from overheating, battery life matters more me to for the long haul.

I am looking for travel adaptor to charge my HP LAPTOP trough type c port. How safe is it to use samsung 65w charger with hp laptop. I don't want to get gan charger because of heating. Also is it safe to charge a laptop with samsung 65w charger when compared to bulky adaptor given by hp.
Why does laptop manufacturing give bulky adaptor instead of small chargers? Does it have extra protection during fluctuations?

    • @AllThingsOnePlace
      @AllThingsOnePlace  Рік тому

Yeah, it is safe to use the Samsung adapter with a HP device. As long as the laptop supports USB C charging and the power requirements are within reason, a 130W laptop won't be happy at 65W for example. I use USB C charging through a dock with my laptop (it is HP laptop using a Dell dock) in one location, then I use a barrel plug adapter to USB C in another since I do run into issues directly charging from USB C on this machine. Everyone is going to have a difference experience though. The Samsung adapter does have the PD modes though so should have no issue supplying the power, if within budget of the machine. The HP adapters are made by Delta and are generally made to last a long time and thus are a little bigger. Also, depending on power levels, need to be bigger. The modern HP 65W bricks are very small now. The majority of the bulk is the cabling and connectors.

But I'm a firm believer use the Brand that comes with your Phone or in the case of the New Samsungs buy the one that sports the same name as the phone.. It would be nice if Samsung went back to packing a charger with the Device especially at $1200.00

The device decides how much power to use. So, using a larger wattage USB charger won't necessarily mean faster charging if the device reaches it's maximum charge speed. Samsung does tend to use PPS so making sure the charger has that will maximize charge speed. Otherwise there isn't any significant impact in going from a 25w to a 65w charger.

Yeah, that’s bad customer service for sure. It is not uncommon for chargers to make a little noise under some conditions. This is usually from the electronics being a bit loose inside, capacitors and inductors do tend to sing under the right conditions. This is often a high frequency sound like a squeal or as you described whistle. It generally doesn’t mean the device is broken.
A buzzing sound is more concerning, like mains buzzing, that’s probably more indicative of a failing adapter.

Google translate actually made this quite readable! There are, as stated, many factors. The power on the incoming side (AC) is mostly what I am looking at for noise (THD), watts, power factor, etc. The output side I mostly see if the load is stable enough to power devices with the load tester. It would be nice if it gave me a readout of ripple on the DC line, I could couple in an AC coupled multimeter I guess. Anyway the power quality is quite specific to efficiency and the other AC factors and is what I have found a reasonable way to compare device to device. I look at many load levels to get an overall picture, idle alone or 100% alone won't tell you everything. I don't do any very high frequency, RF/EMI, analysis on these. At least not yet. On comparing to other chargers, the various brands usually trade performance statistics depending on the adapter. Sometimes apple is good (they rarely win categories though), and Samsung and Google share similar stories.
