This band is really talented. This basement version sounds exactly like the studio recorded version that is pretty amazing.
What a nostalgic and beautiful bass.
i cant believe how much i love his voice
The plucky string combos with that unique drumroll does it for this tune, imo
ezra has such a unique voice i love him
I can't believe I just found this song a few weeks ago. It is freaking incredible.
In December drinking Horchata 🎶
CT wearing a hood looks like some mysterious drummer that just showed up to this performance
Yes and also as if it was super cold. Moreover he is not wearing it in the cousins video and the white sky video.
Ezra and all of them really are just so good live. Better even than album version. That's how I consider my music. That's why they're one of my favorites.
this is overwhelming
EZRAS NOSE IS SO SHINY I WANT TO TOUCH
do you have a nose fetish
Fry plays the holophoner really well at the start
HAHAHAHA exactly what I thought!
This is fantastic.
This is adorable!
Yep...they got it. Yep.
I think you mean contemporary, and the guitar is a classical instrument. The sheet music is just a reference. Those musicians are not part of the band, they are hired and probably rarely rehearse with the band. But plenty of violinists and cellists play from memory, and plenty of guitarists use sheet music.
amazing.
THIS IS A MASTERPIECE MORE LEGENDARY THAN MOZART AND BEETHOVEN
How dare u
+zoe B Leave us alone, you daft creature.
...or at least as... ;)
it honestly makes my heart flutter it's so fucking good, unbelievable.
so good so fucking good
Sounds better live!!
Baio with the THICC bass line as per ush
Love this!
This is good
i must say, i'll feel good about myself when this explodes in popularity and i have the fifth comment
Nicholas Gallagher Well.. It never did
i wish there recorded music sounded this good
If you actually watch the video, none of the four main members of the band have sheet music. Only the added orchestral players have sheets, and if you knew what you were talking about, you'd know that this is a common thing for trained, orchestral players.
Playing a classical instrument is vastly different from playing a contemptibly one. You will see the same thing with classical vocalists. Most classical instruments don't have frets, making it hard to remember the fingering for the song. There are more things going on while playing something like a cello than a guitar as much as I love them. They are just harder to play from memory.
best VW song!
Debatable
Probably cos of the vocal harmonies, although Fleet Foxes remain unmatched in that department IMO.
9 years on you’re still right, though the ‘woah’s reminded me a little of ragged wood
EZRA USANDO PLAYERA
Does anyone hear a hint of fleet foxes in this?
you'd be surprised! haha i just find internet success to be cute and fulfilling :)
probably because the band doesn't normally include a four piece orchestra.
What a rammer
Not bad.
angelina's kid brought me here :)
beautiful music .. Cheers!!
Sorry but no. What I like best about this song is the drums sound. I don't know much about music but in the original version, the drums don't sound like in every other song. It's as if other kinds of drums were played, something almost ethnical because of the rhythm and much more metallic in sound. I don't know how to explain properly, but I'm not hearing that here.
Marry me, Ezra.
First they called them unbearably white, then they couldn’t wait to feature them.
This version sounds way more dissonant than the CD one; that's what's turning me off of it, at least.
reddit
not my cup of horchata.
Why the music sheets, if Neil Young can remember 1000 different songs cant they remember a few simple lines for a band of rich East Coast Americans??
Matt Hoover the people who have sheet music aren’t in the band and are random people(who probably play for people who come in Juan’s basement)
